Opis:
The stamp of the shoemakers’ guild in Szadek was made at the beginning of the 19th century, in accordance with legal regulations of 1816, which reorganized craftsmen’s guilds in the Kingdom of Poland. These regulations, in force throughout the whole 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, defined the structure and the way of managing a guild, professional competences of masters and craftsmen, and rules for professional advance. The regulations of 1816 also affected the shape and functions of craftsmen’s stamps. Under these rules, a guild was governed by a board of elders, which was reflected in the legends of the stamps. The term “profession” to refer to the work of craftsmen was introduced at that time. The legend of the seal of the shoemakers’ guild in Szadek speaks about “the shoemakers’ profession”. As regards the appearance of craftsmen’s stamps, they differed from other official stamps (e.g. those of administrative authorities) of the Kingdom of Poland in that they contained elements representative of particular “professions”. In the case of Szadek shoemakers’ it was a high boot with a heel spur, a knife and an awl. This stamp was evidently carved by a very skilful engraver. It is now part of the collection of the Sieradz Museum.

The article is a contribution to the exploration of history of Polish musical culture of the Renaissance and the Baroque period. Recognition of elementary forms of social organisation leads to understanding of the prevailing social and economical relations in those times. This article is one of the first in this topic, therefore it starts with very basic issues. A musicians guild existed in Cracow from 16th to 18th century. The article presents its history and organisation on the basis of statutes and municipal documents analysis. Simultaneously, it raises questions about circumstances of its creation and termination, welded duties and repertoire. The author questions the character of discussed association, considering to what extent it was a guild and a confraternity. The aim of the publication is to present to the reader a coherent picture of the guild, which could provide a starting point for further research.

We analyzed the differences in composition, richness, and abundance of birds in forest fragments of the Atlantic Forest in the São Paulo State, Brazil, and we demonstrated the variations in richness and abundance of birds between different trophic guilds. We used point counts to characterize the avifauna. Sampling was conducted in two seasons: summer and winter of 2020 in a total of 18 hours distributed in 54 samples. A total of 544 contacts were obtained, belonging to 144 bird species distributed among 22 orders and 45 families and categorized in 18 trophic guilds. The omnivores and insectivores birds composed most of the community, occupying the edge and different strata of the forest such as canopy and understory. For each species, we calculated the abundance index value that showed our study site had a large number of species with low index and few species with intermediate to high index compared to the pattern observed in other surveys. Our study area was characterized by high species diversity for both periods studied. The Shannon-Weaver diversity index for our study areas was 4.62. Equitability was high, 0.92, suggesting the number of species registered in our study site represented the maximum capacity the areas can shelter. Our results show that despite being a secondary and fragmented forest the study area was characterized by a diverse avian community. Although the anthropized forest environments are fragmented and isolated by degraded areas and occupied by pastures, agricultural and urban areas, they are important natural environments to maintain bird diversity.

Birds are found in a variety of habitats, performing various functions. They are highly sensitive to even minor perturbation in ecosystems. Documentation of avian assemblages in different ecosystems is, therefore, becoming increasingly important from environmental monitoring perspective. In absence of comprehensive account of birds of Bibhutibhushan Wildlife Sanctuary, West Bengal, India, we made an attempt to document the birds thriving in this protected area. A total of 102 species of birds belonging to 13 orders and 46 families were recorded during the study period (June 2013 – May 2016). Maximum number of species belong to the order Passeriformes (49 species) and minimum under order Anseriformes (1 species). Among the total bird species, 83 species (81.37%) were resident, 15 species (14.71%) were winter visitor, three species (2.94%) were summer visitor and one species (0.98%) was passage migrant. We noted 38 species of birds (including 36 residents and two summer visitors) to breed within the sanctuary. Analysis of feeding guild data revealed that 46.08% were insectivore, 22.55% were carnivore, 15.69% were omnivore, 6.86% were granivore, 5.88% were frugivore, 1.96% were nectarivore and 0.98% were herbivore. Grey-headed Fish Eagle (Icthyophaga ichthyaetus) and Red-breasted Parakeet (Psittacula alexandri) are two Near Threatened (NT) species designated by IUCN. Present study is the first scientific documentation of avian assemblage of this protected area and will serve as a baseline data for future avifaunal research, as well as, will be useful in the preparation of Peoples’ Biodiversity Register (PBR) of this area.

The forests along Brazil’s Atlantic coast have undergone extensive transformation from clearing for pastures, eucalyptus forests, agricultural crops, and urban expansion. In this study we described the avian community in a coastal Restinga Forest near the city of Ubatuba, in the São Paulo State, Brazil. The method used to sample the avifauna specimens was the technique of observations per point-counts, and random observations were also carried. The bird’s observations were realized in 84 days during all four seasons out between the years 2005 and 2007 and were registered 142 bird species distributed among 18 orders and 41 families and categorized in 17 trophic guilds. The omnivores and insectivores birds composed most of the community, occupying the edge and different strata of the forest such as canopy and understory. The great abundance of omnivores birds may be directly related to the abundant fruit resources, and also with the great abundance of understory insectivores are indication of the good environmental quality of the studied area.

Early Miocene carnivorous mammals from Buluk, Kenya, are described and discussed. Four taxa belonging to Hyaenodonta and four belonging to Carnivora are identified. Members of Hyaenodonta include Hyainailouros sulzeri, Hyainailouros cf. napakensis, a third taxon about the size of Leakitherium, represented only by postcranial material, and a fourth taxon represented by an edentulous jaw, in the size range of Sectisodon. Members of Carnivora include a new species of Cynelos jitu, which represents the largest species of Cynelos known. The first m2 of Cynelos macrodon is described, and the differentiation of this species from Cynelos ginsburgi and Cynelos peignei is confirmed. A third carnivoran species is represented by a mandibular fragment attributed to a viverrid similar to Mioprionodon, and a fourth taxon is represented by a feliform distal humerus, the size of that of a small cat. An ecomorphological guild structure analysis reveals that the Buluk carnivore have estimated body sizes spanning from <1 kg to >100 kg. Three very large species (>100 kg), and another two in the 30–100 kg range are present, while only two taxa are present in the 3–10 kg category. Carnivores in the 1–3 kg and the 10–30 kg categories are absent. Locomotor pattern could be obtained for only four taxa, and all are characterized by terrestrial locomotion. A minimum of three dietary classes (insectivorous, carnivorous, scavenging) are represented. The co-occurrence of multiple very large carnivores is not uncommon in early Miocene faunas, but the taphonomy of Buluk may also contribute to the favored preservation of larger and terrestrially adapted animals.

Opis:
The paper analyses the almost complete absence of Polish RPG designers from OneBookShelf’s community content programs for various tabletop RPG systems, proposing an explanation for this absence based on the development of the RPG fandom in Poland. A part of the argument is concerned with a relatively weak position of Dungeons & Dragons in Poland compared to the English market and with the Polish RPG players’ lack of interest in the market of digital materials for tabletop RPGs. The main hypothesis, however, connects the Polish absence from community content programs with how the long absence of professional systems and the permanently small market of commercial RPGs in Poland might have increased the intensity of prosumption of RPGs among Polish fans but simultaneously limited their chance to gain skills and knowledge necessary to publish and market the results of this prosumption on a professional or semi-professional level. Statements of Jan Sielicki – the only Polish RPG designer who published numerous and successful supplements under community content programs – are quoted to reinforce this hypothesis and show how Sielicki gained the necessary skills outside of the Polish RPG fandom.
Opinie Jana Sielickiego – jedynego polskiego projektanta RPG publikującego liczne i dobrze przyjęte dodatki w ramach programów community content – wzmacniają to przypuszczenie i pokazują, jak Sielicki zdobył potrzebne umiejętności poza polskim fandomem narracyjnych gier fabularnych.

Cech gromadził mistrzów, czeladników i uczniów. W XIX w. obok cechu mistrzów powstał cech czeladników, zyskujący z czasem na niezależności. Na początku XX w. powstały związki zawodowe, konkurujące z cechem czeladników.
The article contains the history of the bookbinding guild in Warsaw from its inception in 1699 until the mid-twentieth century. Historical research was based on preserved fragments of archival sources and on printed sources from recent times. As a result, the old days remain poorly recognized, and only the history of the guild from the 19 th century can be described in more detail. Bookbinders guild, soon after its founding, got into conflict with the booksellers, and came out defeated. It was reborn at the end of the 18 th century. At the beginning of the nineteenth century it lost its significance as a result of legal transformations concerning arts and crafts. The liquidation of the guild monopoly meant that only a small group of craftsmen belonged to the guild, but they were the leading masters. Guilds gathered masters, journeymen and apprentices. In the nineteenth century, along with the masters’ guild, the guild of journeymen was formed and with time it gained independence. At the beginning of the 20 th century emerging trade unions competed with the journeymen guild.

The transformations of the quantity and types of corrections lead to the conclusion that until the mid eighteenth century protocols were rewritten from another, previously drafted text. Later, however, they began to be rewritten during the session. The first method is likely to be back by the last of the guild writers. The change in the protocol creation can be associated with the changing position of a notary in the community and with the authority of the guild seniors and the importance of the official document.

In this paper, I analyse the educational and teaching systems developed for boys joining Vilnius craft workshops. The boys worked (participating in production) and prepared themselves for their future profession. In my paper, I present the educational and teaching paths leading to an apprentice assuming the status of a fellow. It is interesting how the students operated in the structures of the guild workshops and what skills they possessed. The research does not encompass the sons of master craftsmen and out-of-guild craftsmen who would come to Vilnius and attempt to join the craft guilds. These issues require a separate analysis. It was not my intention to provide a holistic study of the issue; rather, I revised and supplemented Józef Morzy’s research in which he partly analysed craft guilds in Vilnius with respect to the essential work skills. In my analysis, I made use of the statutes of the craft guilds operating in Vilnius, one of the biggest cities in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, in the early modern period.

Opis:
The article discusses the development of the permanent seat of municipal authorities in western Medieval towns – the most impressive secular public building, the symbol and ‘logo’ of a medieval town (known as a commune). The main subject of analysis is the terminology used to describe various communities of citizens, places for their gatherings and the seat of the municipal authorities, used in source materials, from the oldest mention of communes until the 13th century. The birth of the communes, and development of the language to describe them, are presented against the backdrop of the great social and political processes taking place at the turn of the first and second millennium, in “post-Carolingian Europe”, although initially they were only perceptible in Latin. The common basis for educating Medieval clerks (notaries and town writers) – also in terms of language and law – resulted in a barely differentiable and quickly stabilized Latin terminology for describing the seat of the commune (domus civium, domus civitatis, praetorium). The differentiation is more noticeable in the vernacular languages, especially with reference to words describing the place where citizens held gatherings and the place of work of the first municipal authorities, which enables a fuller perception of the relationship between the place where power was exercised and the political evolution of the commune – the degree of its independence, the system of authority, aspirations to political sovereignty and, lastly, the ideology and communal identity. This terminology reflects the processes and circumstances in which the communes were born and developed, the role, on the one hand, of the bishop, his seat and the cathedral, and on the other, the stormy development of the economy, in particular trade and the establishment of guilds (merchants’ chambers). What is particularly noticeable is the term used by the Italian communes transforming into city-states in the 12th/13th century – palatium (palazzo) – which in Roman law was reserved for the seat of the Emperor, and in the early Medieval period was also used by royalty, and then, in the period in which Italian bishops were losing their powers in Italian towns, appropriated by them to describe the residences which were being extended. The general term for the place where municipal powers were being exercised, consolidated in the 13th/14th century in vernacular languages, has remained little changed down to this day in most regions of the researched area. The article concludes with deliberations on the function of the late Medieval seat of the municipal authorities, provided with a strong tower and which housed the constantly increasing archives, as a place of credibility (locus credibilis), memories and space for social communication.

Opis:
The article presents a short outline of the history of the Corpus Christi Collegiate Church in Biecz, which constitutes only an introduction to a wider discussion of the main subject of the text, i.e. the history of the altar and the chapel of the Biecz clothiers’ guild. It is currently held that St. Catherine’s and St. Michael’s chapel was owned by the guild. However, the earliest sources concerning the investigated subject contain a mention of the original Corpus Christi altar founded by the guild. This inconsistency is presumably caused by the co-existence of two guild foundations, initially the Corpus Christi altar, and later the entire chapel. It should also be emphasized that they were located in two different places inside the Biecz parish church. The author did not find any evidence which would suggest that the first altar could survive until today. The article has been enhanced by a source edition: The elders of the clothiers’ guild of the town of Biecz notify Cardinal Frederic of the foundation and provision of the Corpus Christi alter in the Biecz parish church of 1483. The document is stored in the National Archive in Krakow.
Katarzyny i św. Tekst został wzbogacony o edycję źródłową: Starsi cechu sukienniczego miasta Biecza zawiadamiają kardynała Fryderyka o ufundowaniu i uposażeniu ołtarza pw. Bożego Ciała w kościele parafialnym w Bieczu z 1483 roku. Dokument ten jest przechowywany w zbiorach Archiwum Narodowego w Krakowie.
