Grains from basal (4th), central (8th) and apical (12th) spikelets of a wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivar Lok-1 were investigated for their fresh weight, dry weight and water content. Each spikelet had 3 grains and so in all 9 grains were analyzed. Grain dry weight data was fitted to polynomial equations and biphasic linear regression analysis. The experiments described here indicated that grains having maximum water content had maximum grain weight and vice versa. Maximum water content and maximum grain weight showed a highly significant linear correlation (P < 0.001). It is suggested that in genetic manipulation in wheat, maximum water content can be a used as a reliable criterion to help in selection for final grain weight.

W pracy tej połączono koncepcje modelowania danych generowanych wg krzywej wzrostu z modelami regresji o losowych współczynnikach. Zasadniczo, zostają rozszerzone wyniki pracy dyplomowej (Lundbуe-Christiansena (1988)). Pokazano, że kiedy występują pewne powiązania pomiędzy strukturą średniej i strukturą kowariancji, możliwe jest uzyskanie prostych algorytmów, prowadzących do estymatorów bez żadnych uciążliwych obliczeń.
In this paper ideas when modelling growth curve data with a random coefficient regression model are put together with ideas from the application of the Grówth Curve model. In general, results from [Lundbуe- - Christensen (1988)] are extended. It is shown that when there exist certain connections between the mean structure and the covariance structure it is possible to obtain straightforward algorithms, leading to estimators without any heavy calculations.

Opis:
Effect of sowing time on productivity of sunflower was studied. Sunflower seeds were first sown in August (early) and the second sowing was done in September (late). Growth analysis was done at an interval of 5-6 days from germination to maturation. Growth was measured in terms of dry weight and leaf area. Various growth indices like RGR, RLGR, NAR, LAR, LWR, SLA, etc. were calculated. Cubic polynomial was the best fit for all the growth parameters. The dry matter accumulation, leaf area, leaf dry weight and leaf number were significantly more in late grown crop than early grown one. The rate of total dry weight, leaf area and leaf dry weight were higher in late grown crop as compared to early grown one. RGR, RLGR and NAR were higher in the late grown crop from the beginning, which gradually decreased later on, in both the crops. LAR was distinctly more in late grown crop between d 30-40. Changes in SLA were similar to LAR while LWR was more in the beginning and decreased afterwards. RGR showed more correlation with NAR and very low correlation with LAR in both the crops. Thus it is concluded that the late sown crop had better growth, but still, to obtain maximum productivity in sunflower, improvement in RGR and NAR is required.

A two-year field trial was carried out in order to outline reasons of maize grain yield increase due to foliar application of zinc, and to evaluate its effects on the dynamics of nitrogen and dry matter accumulation in the course of the growing season. Growth analysis methods were applied to describe the trends exhibited by the canopy and plant’s growth. Maize plants fertilized with zinc were able to increase the rate of nitrogen uptake, as indicated by the values of absolute crop uptake rate for N (CUR-N), at two distinct time-separated phases of growth, i.e., (i) from 7th to 9th leaf and (ii) from milk to physiological maturity of kernels growth. Physiological processes occurring in these two time-separated phases resulted in an increase of maize yielding capacity. The effect of zinc as recorded in the first phase resulted in extension rate of new organs or tissues ingrowth, as confirmed by the RGR analysis. At the reproductive phase of maize growth, plants well supplied with zinc accumulated more nitrogen, which was a prerequisite for significantly higher rate of dry matter accumulation, as confirmed both by CGR and RGR analyses. The amount of extra nitrogen taken up by Zn treated plants was sufficiently high to increase grain yield by 1.5 t ha-1, which was achieved in the conducted experiment.
Dwuletnie doświadczenie polowe przeprowadzono w celu wyjaśnienia przyczyn wzrostu plonu ziarna kukurydzy dolistnie traktowanej nawozem cynkowym i oceny jego wpływu na dynamikę procesów akumulacji azotu i suchej masy w okresie wegetacji. Do opisu uzyskanych trendów zastosowano metody analizy wzrostu łanu i rośliny. Kukurydza nawożona cynkiem była w stanie, jak wykazały wartości wskaźnika absolutnej szybkości pobierania azotu przez łan (CUR-N), zwiększyć pobieranie azotu w dwóch czasowo różnych fazach rozwoju, to znaczy (i) od fazy 7. do 9. liścia oraz (ii) od fazy dojrzałości mlecznej do fizjologicznej ziarniaków. Procesy fizjologiczne ujawniające się w tych dwóch czasowo odległych fazach rozwoju kukurydzy determinowały wzrost potencjału produkcyjnego kukurydzy. Działanie cynku w pierwszej fazie przejawiło się wzrostem szybkości akumulacji azotu, który spowodował wydłużenie fazy intensywnego przyrostu nowych tkanek lub/i organów, jak potwierdziła analiza RGR. W fazie reproduktywnej rozwoju kukurydzy rośliny dobrze odżywione cynkiem akumulowały azot z większą szybkością, co było podstawowym warunkiem zwiększonej akumulacji suchej masy, potwierdzonej analizami CGR i RGR. Ilość azotu pobranego ekstra przez rośliny nawożone cynkiem była dostatecznie duża do wzrostu plonu ziarna o 1,5 t ha-1, co uzyskano w przeprowadzonym eksperymencie.

Empirical evidence from a panel of 126 countries, over the time period of 2010 to 2014, indicates that economic growth is dependent on various factors. This paper finds that government expenditure control, reduced inflation and increased trade openness are the factors that boost the economic growth of a country. Significant evidence is seen for government consumption, fiscal policy and trade openness. No significant relationship has been observed between exchange rate and economic growth, whereas unemployment influences output for African countries. The cross regional analysis of Asian, European, African, Caribbean, and American countries gives specific determinants for these regions. Economic growth is also analysed in developing, developed, least developed, Muslim and petroleum exporting and emerging countries. The results of this study validate the dependence of economic growth on various factors. Fiscal balance has shown a consistent positive relationship with economic growth throughout the analyses. Fiscal balance and unemployment rate played their role in the growth of African countries. Inflation rates and increased openness were significant for some regions. Exchange rate did not return significant coefficients for any of the sub-regions. Government consumption, trade openness, policy interest rate and industrial production rate showed significant effect for different regions of the world.

The paper attempts to evaluate the relationship between empirical analysis of multinational corporations and economic growth in Nigeria using data spanning (1991-2014). Secondary data were used and were collected from the CBN statistical bulletin and national bureau of statistics. Hypotheses were formulated and tested using time series econometrics and the study reveals that the variables do not have unit roots. There is also long-run equilibrium relationship between economic growth and multinational corporations and the result confirms that about 73% short-run adjustment speed from long-run disequilibrium. There is a causal relationship between multinational corporations and economic growth. The coefficient of determination indicates that about 52% of the variations in economic growth is explained by changes in multinational corporations’ variables. The study therefore recommends that multinational corporations should make life meaningful to the host country by providing infrastructural facilities. Government should ensure that multinational corporations plough back part of their profits to the development of the host communities in other to established good working relationship. Federal environmental protection agencies should also ensure effective monitoring of multinational corporations to avoid the violation of the lay down rules and regulations guiding their operations.

The paper discusses Bayesian productivity analysis of 27 EU Member States, USA, Japan and Switzerland. Bayesian Stochastic Frontier Analysis and a twostage structural decomposition of output growth are used to trace sources of output growth. This allows us to separate the impacts of capital accumulation, labour growth, technical progress and technical efficiency change on economic development. Research background: Transfer of newly created money through unconventional monetary measures follows the official European Central Bank distribution key. Yet, it does not take into account the ability of individual countries to drive growth process in other economies. Money spent to boost domestic credit provisioning in growth pole-like economies is more likely to spill over to other adjoined economies and help them to recover, even in the presence of depressed domestic demand and/or overleveraged domestic banking sector. Purpose of the article: This paper reports growth pole scores for 19 euro area countries, and compares it to the official distribution key used to transmit newly created source of funding. Methods: We modify the procedure developed in World Bank (2011) for growth pole com-putation in order to account for strength of linkages connecting member states. Findings & Value added: Our results suggest that the official distribution key might not be completely optimal once looking at the growth pole scores. Countries small in economic size (Baltic states, Slovakia and Slovenia) would benefit from a more differentiated distribution, as they strongly outperform their benchmark set by the official distribution key. On the other hand, big euro area economies do not achieve the levels used in official distribution key, taking into account their growth pole potential for other euro area economies.

This article discusses the ways of solving the problems of fruiting and increasing the yields, as well as obtaining high-quality standard seeds from promising seed plants of black saksaul (Haloxylon aphyllum (Minkw.) Iljin). It presents the results of studying the effect of irrigation and the use of fertilizers on the annual growth of the apical shoots of saksaul, and the effect of irrigation on the further stability of seed plants fruiting for sustainable seed supply for reproduction of saksaul deserts and forest amelioration of deserts. The morphological description of the soil by profiles has been given, and the effect of irrigation on the soils of the type II forest conditions has been described. This study was aimed at resolving the problem of fruiting frequency, increasing the yield and quality of promising black saksaul seed plants by determining the moisture dynamics in the one-meter thick soil layer under saksaul specimens for determining the methods, norms, and time of irrigating seed plants. Long-term observations show that well-developed specimens of black saksaul have appeared in the last 15-20 years on the roadside in some settlements, e.g., Bakbakty, Bakanas, Akkol, Koktal, Karoy, the motor road in village Kanshengel, Topar, Araltobe, Akzhar in the Almaty area, which passes through natural saksaul plantings and the soil with the formation of layered clay, sandy loam, and crushed stone. On the one hand, this was promoted by the presence of layered and well-aerated roadsides of the bulk roadbed, and on the other hand, by additional wetting from the runoff of precipitation from the asphalt pavement.Naturally, these saksaul plantings growing along the roads alone or in rows give a good yield when fruiting; seed plants may also be identified in these groups.

This paper investigates the relationship between the financial system and economic growth. Understanding this nexus is important in order to draft and implement policy measures that safeguard economic welfare based on sound financial markets. In spite of the growing number of scholars who research in this area, there is a substantial amount of unanswered questions and a lively debate with contrasting views on basic processes. The main research question that will be answered in this paper is: What is the relationship between the financial system and economic growth? This question also answers which variables of the financial system have an impact on the real economy, which variables are most relevant contributors to economic growth and if differences between different groups of countries can be identified. The analysis is executed using the Arellano‐ Bond generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator based on panel data. The dataset consists of macroeconomic control variables and financial stock market and banking system variables from 74 countries over the time period 1988–2014. The results vary substantially between the panels under analysis. At the same time it can be said, that market capitalisation is the strongest predictor of economic growth. The analysis further shows that the banking system variables are largely negatively correlated with economic growth.
W artykule badana jest relacja zachodząca między systemem finansowym a wzrostem gospodarczym. Zrozumienie tej relacji jest bardzo ważne przy opracowywaniu i wdrażaniu programów politycznych, mających na celu rozwój ekonomiczny oparty na solidnej bazie rynków finansowych. Mimo coraz większej liczby naukowców, którzy badają tę dziedzinę, znaczna ilość pytań pozostaje bez odpowiedzi, a ożywiona debata uwypukla przeciwstawne poglądy na temat podstawowych procesów. Główne pytanie badawcze brzmi: Jaki związek występuje pomiędzy systemem finansowym a wzrostem gospodarczym? To pytanie pozwala udzielić odpowiedzi także na to, jakie zmienne systemu finansowego wpływają na realną gospodarkę, które zmienne uchodzą za najistotniejsze czynniki wzrostu gospodarczego, oraz czy można zidentyfikować różnice pomiędzy różnymi grupami krajów. Analiza została przeprowadzona za pomocą uogólnionej metody momentów (GMM) Arellano‐Bonda na podstawie danych panelowych. Zestaw danych składa się ze zmiennych kontrolnych gospodarki oraz ze zmiennych finansowych z 76 krajów w okresie 1988–2014 r. Wyniki analizy różnią się znacznie pomiędzy panelami. Jednocześnie można stwierdzić, że kapitalizacja giełdowa jest najsilniejszym czynnikiem wzrostu gospodarczego. Analiza pokazuje ponadto, że zmienne systemu bankowego są negatywnie skorelowane ze wzrostem gospodarczym.

The creation of an effective growth policy requires the identification of its key determinants. The study used one of the methods of multidimensional analysis – discriminant analysis. It is widely used on a microeconomic scale, especially in the area of forecasting bankruptcy of enterprises, but in the area of economic growth, it has not been used in practice so far. In addition to the main objective of identifying the most important economic growth factors of the European Union countries in 2000- 2016, the impact of the crisis and accession to the EU was examined. The statistical data sources were the databases of Eurostat and the Conference Board (Total Economy Database). The results obtained allowed us to conclude that the rate of Gross Domestic Product growth in the EU countries was determined by consumption, investment, export and labour productivity, and in periods of economic slowdown also public debt. The enlargement of the EU resulted in an increase in the importance of export.
