Opis:
In this short communication we consider the extensibility properties of the cell wall. This is accomplished by a heuristically motivated equation for the expanding volume of the cell. The experimentally determined characteristic time t0 and temperature T0 are the only numbers required for evaluating the effective yielding coefficient Ф(t, T) in the respective time and temperature domains.

In this study we propose a simple mathematical model based on the equilibrium equation for the materials deformed elastically. Owing to the turgor pressure of the cells, the peripheral walls of the outer tissue are under tension, while the extensible inner tissue is under compression. This well known properties of growing multicellular plant organs can be derived from the equation for equilibrium. The analytic solutions may serve as a good starting point for modeling the growth of a single plant cell or an organ.

Opis:
Soil salinity is the one of the most important abiotic factors influencing the growth, development and yields of crops. However, it is difficult to determine exact concentrations of salt which cause soil salinity. Salinity threshold levels depend on a crop species, variety, developmental stage and environmental factors. This paper presents the results of an experiment on the effect of different soil concentrations of NaCl soil on several oxidation stress parameters, such as catalase and peoxidase activity, content of ascorbic acid, phenols and flavonoids in bean plants. A laboratory pot experiment was carried out on samples of light silty loam containing 1.2% of humus. Pots were filled with 1 kg soil samples each, to which NaCl solution was added in doses 10, 30 and 50 mM kg-1. Each pot was seeded with 7 seeds of cv. Aura bean. The plants grown in soil without NaCl were the control. On days 14, 21 and 28 green parts of plants were collected for determinations of catalase and peroxidase activity by colorometry as well as the content and flavonoids, phenols, ascorbic acid and chloride concentration by Mohr’s method. The results show that chloride concentration in bean plants increased at higher of NaCl concentration in soil. The activity of the antyoxidative enzymes such as catalase and peroxidase in bean plants, on sampling days, was higher as the chloride concentration in plants increased. Non-enzymatic antioxidants: flavonoids, phenols and ascorbic acid content during the experiment showed different changes with relation to the chloride content, but in all the trials ascorbic acid content was significantly positively correlated whereas the content of phenols was significantly negatively correlated with the chloride content in plant tissues.
Zawartość nieenzymatycznych antyutleniaczy w roślinach fasoli: kwasu askorbinowego, flawonoidów i fenoli wykazywała w trakcie trwania doświadczenia zmienne zależności w stosunku do ilości w nich chlorków, jednakże w całym doświadczeniu zawartość kwasu askorbinowego była istotnie dodatnio, a fenoli istotnie ujemnie skorelowana z ilością chlorków w tkankach roślinnych.

Opis:
The study was conducted in 2006 – 2008 at the Production and Experimental Station of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, located in Bałcyny (NE Poland). The objective of this study was to determine the microbial quality of soil after Brassicaceae grown as forecrops for winter wheat. A field experiment was established on grey-brown podsolic soil, and it involved the following forecrops: winter rapeseed, spring rapeseed, white mustard, Chinese mustard, and winter wheat as control. Soil samples for microbiological analyses were collected in the spring, before the sowing of forecrops, and in the autumn, after the harvest of Brassicaceae and ploughing-in crop residues. Bacterial and fungal communities isolated from soil sown with Brassicaceae as forecrops were generally more abundant and diverse. These communities exerted an inhibitory effect on the growth of soil pathogens. Forecrops with the greatest microbiological potential were white mustard and winter rapeseed.

Opis:
To tolerate harsh climatic conditions, olive tree Chetoui has developed some anatomic, physiologic and biochemical mechanisms. The aim of this study was to determine the indicators of stress in leaves, stems and roots growing under various climatic conditions. To protect against stress conditions this cultivar increased cuticle thickness, protective structures and building parenchyma tissues of leaves, woods and roots from the North to the South. The volatile compounds, extracted from northern and southern Chetoui leaves and roots, were analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS. Great changes in volatiles were illustrated in the studied organs, by enrichment in phenolics and fatty acids for leaves and in hydrocarbons for roots of southern Chetoui. Also, a reduction in terpenes, alcohols and carbonylic compounds was noted in both southern samples. Moreover, minerals of all organs of Chetoui, varied in content and allocation, but their levels are the highest in leaves. The changes in volatiles might be affected by changes in the mineral elements uptake or accumulation under environment stress. A significant correlation was noted between phenolic compounds and sodium, nitrogen, and calcium contents. However, terpenoids was highly correlated with phosphorus content for all organs and studied areas. The detection of new volatiles, anatomical and mineral changes seem to be efficient indicators of adaptation of Chetoui to environment stress conditions.

This article deals with the prospects and trends of crop production development in Ukraine, as well as the methods and ways of supporting this industry by the state.According to the article, the primary objective of the state is to create conditions through the reallocation of resources and facilitate the introduction of new forms of economic activity in the regions, which are depressed in terms of agriculture today. It is noted that to justify the need for institutional changes in crop production we must take into account the appropriate specifics of agricultural production in some areas. The article reports that, a large number of similar types of agricultural enterprises, unlike in other sectors of the economy, allow us to group the results of their activity: in terms of forms of management, on a territorial basis or according to other types of features for further comparative analysis. Therefore, the article offers the crop production regions clustering in certain areas, to determine which areas need the state aid priority. It is noted that in terms of crop production it is possible to increase the efficiency of agricultural activity due to a better use of agricultural land, as well as by an increase in average crop yield per 1 hectare. Therefore, it is offered to use the integral index of crop production position of each region, based on the ratios of extensive and intensive load. The extensive load factor represents the degree of agricultural land use.The intensive load factor reflects the effectiveness of land fund usage, that is, the average yield, which is produced from the agricultural land of the same region. However, the average yield cannot directly serve as the basis for calculation, because the structure of the sown area of each region is heterogeneous. In this study, while calculating the intensive load factor, it is offered primarily to carry out the procedure of yield rate normalization for each group of crops separately.Using the method of integral estimation of crop development, the autor has made an appropriate ranking of Ukraine regions according to the area of sown crops in Ukraine, based on which 4 sectors of Ukraine areas have been allocated and grouped by crop production development level. The article goes on to give the recommendations for decision making supporting investments and state aid for each of the selected sectors to further develop crop production in the regions of Ukraine.

Opis:
This study evaluated the development of above and under ground parts of strawberry plants cvs. 'Fern' and 'Camarosa1 in a glasshouse using perlite, forest soil, finpeat, peat, finpeat+perlite (1:1) and peat+perlite (1:1) as substrates. The effects of different growing media on development of above and under ground parts of plant were statistically significant. The highest number of primary roots per plant, length of the most developed roots and number of crowns per runner were obtained from perlite, finpeat+perlite and peat medium, respectively, in both cultivars. The runner length, number of runners per plant, leaf area, fresh root weight and dry root weight varied between cultivars according to growth medium. In general peat, finpeat or finpeat+perlite gave the best results in terms of above and under ground parts of plants in both cultivars. Some important properties such as water retention capacity, cation exchangeable capacity, pH, porosity etc. of growing media using in this study were also determined.
