    Online greetings in Russian, Polish and German are analyzed in this article. The author treats greetings as a speech act that helps the addresser remind the addressee about his warm feelings towards him/her on the basis of a particular occasion - for instance, the birthday of the addressee. The author analyzes this speech act in relation to peculiarities of communicative and mental scenarios of the culture to which the speaker belongs. The entirety o f standard speech acts and the combination o f intentions of the speakers form a genre. The genre o f modem online greetings seems contiguous to folklore genres because most of the texts do not have authors. Moreover, these texts move from one Internet site to another. Therefore, there is a wide circle of ‘implementers’ - users. The author distinguishes some typical characteristics of online greetings in three cultures. The emphasis on the figurę o f the speaker and incantation character are typical to Russian greeting texts. Happmess, health and etemal youth are the key objects o f Russian greetin g texts Russian nreet gs are related to the futurę. German greetings are mainly related to the birthday celebration itself. Greetings are often related to the review of a life: it is wished that this day the addressee has madę surę that he/she has lived this year in the right way. Word courage (Mut) is constantly repeated in German greetings while this word is absent in Russian greetings. The figurę of the speaker is marginally expressed in Polish greetings. The sweetness of life is present in Polish greetings, whereas it is not observed in German and Russian texts. May all your dreams come true is a cliche element o f Polish greeting texts.The author relates detected specific features of online greetings with the ideas ot philosophers and historians on the peculiarities o f the expression of national character.

    In this paper we consider opening greetings and complementary closes (farewells) in emails written in Serbian language that make relatively independent communication entities with the most general purpose of initiating and concluding a correspondence as the form of phatic language function and in the same time with metalinguistic discourse function of indicating the beginning and the end. We examine their structure and lexical, semantic and pragmatic properties, and also stress the occurrence of new characteristics or tendencies in their use caused by this new medium of communication, i.e. email, as compared to traditional letter correspondence. Those are: higher degree of linguistic individualization, expression of creativity in communication, resorting to economy, linguistic reductions and omissions.

    Celem studium jest diachroniczna analiza hiszpańskich formuł powitalnych, rozumianych jako spragmatykalizowane jednostki dyskursywne, właściwe ekspresywnemu aktowi mowy i służące do otwarcia kanału komunikacyjnego. W oparciu o teksty z epistolarnej tradycji dyskursywnej (VI-XIX wieku), autor podejmuje próbę ukazania paradygmatycznego pochodzenia, ewolucyjnej ścieżki oraz socjopragmatycznego uwarunkowania wyrażeń z czasownikiem besar ‘całować’ w historii języka hiszpańskiego.
    The aim of this paper is a diachronic analysis of Spanish greeting formulae, understood as pragmaticalised discursive units, specific to the expressive speech act, which serve to establish communication. On the basis of texts from the epistolary discursive genre, the author shows the paradigmatic origin and sociopragmatic factors which determine the use of the predicative greeting formulae with besar ‘kiss’ in the history of the Spanish language.

    Opis:
    Knowledge of a foreign language facilitates communication. In order to be fluent in a foreign language, it is not enough to learn its words and grammatical rules, but one has to also be aware that there are additional, culture-bound norms that govern communication practices among various language groups. Even if one is not fluent in a foreign language, it is possible to make communication successful by applying appropriate non-verbal behaviour. In this article, I present communicative culture-related greeting rules among different African communities. I focus on the main factors that govern acts of greeting in different African languages.
    Znajomość języków obcych pomaga w nawiązywaniu kontaktów. Do biegłej komunikacji nie wystarcza znajomość słownictwa i reguł gramatycznych danego języka, ale równie ważne są kompetencje socjokulturowe, czyli znajomość norm dyskursu. Nawet jeśli nie jesteśmy biegli w danym języku, stosując właściwe normy konwersacji i zachowania niewerbalne, możemy wpłynąć na przebieg rozmowy. W artykule przybliżam kulturowe zasady komunikacji w kilku językach afrykańskich na przykładzie pozdrowień.

    Today most linguists agree that language and culture are tightly connected. It is also argued that in order to communicate successfully, we need to achieve a level of socio-cultural competence along with an ability to use the grammar and the lexicon of a particular language. There are many kinds of cultural norms and values that one has to obey, as there may be fundamental communication and discourse differences between one language and another. This paper is primarily concerned with some issues of discourse strategies and pragmatics of African languages. While the study focuses on greeting practices among the Swahili, it also investigates how learners acquire the pragmatics of Swahili greetings in a foreign language context, and how Swahili, as a language of wider communication, is influenced by cultural norms and values of its speakers, for whom Swahili is not a primary language.

    The article is dedicated to some greeting formulae and some address forms in contempo-rary Chinese (more precisely Mandarin) language. It discusses general rules of grammatical and lexical system as well as pragmatics and language politeness both in official and unoffi-cial speech. The text is partly of a comparative character (it presents how different expres-sions function within Polish and Chinese communication).     Greetings and goodbyes in written internet interactions. A comparative franco-polish study of mothers discussion forums The paper studies greetings and goodbyes in the mothers discussion forums in order to find out, on the one hand, the contemporary tendencies in French and Polish, and on the other hand, the cultural variations of the interactional practices of the Internet users. In our case, we identify them in the field of politeness of the written interactions where the openings and the closing forms contribute to set up and sustain politeness, apoliteness or hyperpoliteness of the speech (Kerbrat-Orecchioni 2005 : 209). We also try to observe how the genre influences these practices.

    W artykule przedstawiono, jaki stosunek do norm grzecznościowych prezentują korektorzy i redaktorzy językowi konwersujący ze sobą w zawodowej grupie dyskusyjnej (najbardziej reprezentatywnej spośród grup skupiających redaktorów i korektorów) na portalu społecznościowym Facebook. Badany materiał pochodzi przede wszystkim z kwietnia i maja 2021 r. i obejmuje zwroty adresatywne oraz formuły powitalne — ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem formuły witam. Ponadto omówiono preferencje przedstawicieli tej grupy zawodowej dotyczące wyboru typu relacji (na ty czy na pan/pani). Analiza materiału pozwala wysnuć wniosek, że członkowie samopomocowej społeczności redaktorów i korektorów chętniej niż w innych grupach wybierają relację na pan/pani (choć nadal można obserwować przewagę relacji na ty) i najczęściej rezygnują z tradycyjnych powitań i formuł adresatywnych.
    This article presents how the politeness norms are followed by proofreaders and language editors who are talking to each other in a professional discussion group (the most representative among the groups for editors and proofreaders in Poland) on the Facebook social networking site. The material comes mainly from April and May 2021 and includes addressative forms and greetings formulas — with particular emphasis on the phrase witam. Moreover, there are discussed the preferences of this professional group’s representatives regarding the choice of the type of relationship (per ty ‘you’ or per pan/pani ‘sir/madam’). The analysis of the material allows us to conclude that members of the self-help community are more likely than in other groups to choose the per pan/pani relationship (although still with the advantage of the per ty relationship) and most often give up traditional greetings and addressative formulas.

    Greetings and wishes comprehended as acts of etiąuette expressed at different occa- sions are the subject of the article. The author analyses wishes sent on post cards prepared for various occasions dating to the 20,h and 21st century. The point of reference for such expression are:1. local newspapers and magazines - the published ready wishes,2. electronic mail - electronic versions of cards for different occasions.The common feature of the above is the possibility of joining the graphic and the lan- guage codę as well as the possibility of sending the wishes on a massive scalę.The relationship between text and time is treated as the influence of time on the text of the wishes. The aim of the article is the observation whether the wishes undergo a change with the passing of time, for example in the course of the century, which aspects - styli- stic-language aspect or the universal hierarchy of values - undergo change and finally for which reasons.

    W artykule dokonano charakterystyki polskojęzycznych aktów pozdrowień przesyłanych na widokówkach w drugiej połowie XX wieku. Analizowana jest pozycja zajmowana przez pozdrowienia w strukturze tekstu, ich forma językowa (m.in. dodatkowe określenia, nazwy nadawców, odbiorców i miejsc, z których są wysyłane), pragmatyka oraz towarzyszące im inne akty etykiety. Badanie dowodzi, że akty pozdrowień (bądź ich komponenty) pełnią w korespondencji pocztówkowej liczne funkcje, m.in. identyfikującą, wartościującą i ekspresywną, jednak najważniejszą funkcją pozdrowień jest grzecznościowe podtrzymywanie kontaktu między korespondentami.
    The article characterizes Polish greetings sent on postcards in the second half of the 20th century. The analysis comprises the position of greetings in the structure of texts, their linguistic form (including names of the sender, recipient and place from which they are sent), pragmatics and other politeness formulas accompanying them. The study proves that greetings (or their components) perform several functions in postcard messages, as they identify people and places, evaluate them and serve as a means of expression, but the most important function of greetings is polite maintenance of contact between correspondents.

    This study concerns the relationship of neofolklore/cyberfolklore to religion in the globalized world and some issues fundamental for contemporary evaluation of religious phenomena, such as types/models of spirituality and their co-existence, forms of their expression as manifest in electronic communication (interface to interface) and the genre of e-greetings. These types may be placed on three levels: 1. religious spirituality (the culture of traditional values – “the culture of the olive tree”), 2. the spirituality of those who believe in a different way (private religion), and 3. secular spirituality (a play with tradition – the ideology of consumerism, the “Lexus culture”). This anthropological analysis of e-greetings is focused on the essence of holy/festive time pertaining to Christ’s Resurrection (the most important Catholic feast) and Easter e-greetings. However, these types of spirituality are paradigmatic for other phases in the liturgical year (especially Christmas and New Year rituals). The constantly growing collections of such e-greetings refer to the “festive alphabet” and indicate an increasing tendency for secularization in experiencing important dates of the liturgical calendar, which in turn reduces their sacred essence.
    Artykuł dotyczy relacji: neofolklor/cyberfolklor a religia w zglobalizowanym świecie oraz kwestii fundamentalnych dla współczesnego wartościowania zjawisk religijnych – typów/modeli duchowości i ich koegzystencji, form ich wyrażania na przykładzie komunikacji zapośredniczonej elektronicznie, czyli interface to interface i gatunku e-życzeń. Typy te sytuują się na trzech poziomach: 1. duchowości religijnej (kultury tradycyjnych wartości -“kultury drzewa oliwnego”), 2. duchowości  “wierzących inaczej” (religijności prywatnej), 3. duchowości świeckiej (gry z tradycją - ideologii konsumeryzmu,“kultury Lexusa”). Analiza antropologiczna e-życzeń koncentruje się na istocie czasu świętego/świątecznego odnoszącego się  do najważniejszych dla Kościoła katolickiego świąt – Zmartwychwstania Pańskiego i e-życzeń wielkanocnych. Wyróżnione typy duchowości uznać można jako paradygmatyczne rownież dla innych  odcinków roku liturgicznego (zwłaszcza obrzędowości bożonarodzeniowej i  noworocznej). Nieustannie rosnące kolekcje tychże e-życzeń odwołujące do “świątecznego alfabetu”  wskazują na postępujace procesy sekularyzacyjne we współczesnym przeżywaniu świąt kalendarza liturgicznego – zawężania poczucia  sacrum.

    The aim of the article is to study the conversational behaviour of the Plautine old men in light of the politeness theory. The analysis concerns those scenes of salutatio and giving advice, where one of the speaker is senex, in order to examine features of his linguistic characterization.Según se desprende de la lectura de las obras plautinas, la caracterización de la figura del senex en las comedias de Plauto se centra en destacar su dignidad personal y pública como paterfamilias, un miembro de la élite económica y política. En este artículo hemos igualado la dignitas de los ancianos –que se revela en cada interacción verbal– con el concepto de la imagen social proveniente de la teoría de la cortesía lingüística. A continuación, hemos analizado dos tipos de comportamiento lingüístico (el saludo y las secuencias de aconsejar), donde el senex interactúa con personajes de diferente estatus social. En cuanto a las escenas de saludo realizadas por y hacia los ancianos, se percibe un alto grado de ritualización de la apertura dialógica, tanto más evidente entre dos senes. Las secuencias en las que se dan consejos a un noble paterfamilias también necesitan de varias estrategias de cortesía lingüística para no dañar su imagen social, puesto que este tipo de interacción verbal conlleva una asimetría de poder entre los hablantes. En una breve revisión de dichas escenas, hemos indicado los recursos utilizados tanto para afirmar la imagen del interlocutor (cortesía positiva), como para expresar respeto y reverencia hacia él (cortesía negativa). En consecuencia, la cortesía lingüística, como fenómeno conversacional, nos parece un importante recurso de la caracterización de los personajes plautinos no a nivel estilístico, sino a nivel de la interacción dialógica.

    This research aims to investigate the presence in textbooks of varied material in terms of geolectal equivalents and its perception by teachers of Spanish as a foreign language. In order to examine potential differences in their approach, a pedagogical framework-based task was designed to study a corpus of 100 ELE teachers’ evaluations (50 from Colombia and 50 from Spain) and examine their consciousness and dissimilarities regarding pragmatic correctness when expressing addresses and greeting headings in electronic messages. The results show that native teachers tend to consider as correct the stimuli of peninsular Spanish or of their own variety, while those representing different geolectal variations of Spanish tend to score very low, even being considered as inter or intralinguistic error.
