Purpose: The aim of the article is to verify accounting methods used to map the essence and specifics of greenhouse gas emission rights trading in corporate financial reporting. Methodology/approach: A literature review and an analysis of national and international environmental regulations and accounting guidelines were conducted for the United States, Canada, New Zealand, China, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, France, and Poland. The EU market for trading greenhouse gas emission allowances and the efforts made by the International Accounting Standards Board are presented separately. Findings: There is a regulatory gap in the recognition, measurement and disclosure of greenhouse gas emission rights in the financial statements. So far, no environmental accounting regulation (standard) of international importance has been adopted, although few of the proposals from national environmental organizations differ between jurisdictions. Practical implications: There is a need to fill the identified regulatory gap and improve financial reporting by establishing consistent and uniform principles for recognizing, measuring and presenting greenhouse gas emission rights. Originality/value: The article emphasizes the importance of the accounting information system in providing a coherent picture of the achievements of economic entities (including environmental performance) and identifies challenges for the scientific discipline of accounting in relation to the development of greenhouse gas emissions trading around the world.

The Carpathians may play a significant role as a supplier of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Unfortunately, most of the discovered oil and gas deposits are recently only historical objects. An example is the Sękowa-Ropica Górna-Siary oil deposit located in the marginal part of the Magura Nappe where oil had been extracted in dug wells until the mid XX century. One of such extraction sites is the “Pusty Las” oilfield. In that area, 10 methane and carbon dioxide emission measurement sites were located, among which 4 in dried dug wells and 6 in dig wells still filled with oil and/or water. Dynamics of methane and carbon dioxide concentration changes were measured with the modified static chambers method. Gas samples were collected immediately after the installation of the chamber and again, after 5 and 10 minutes. In the case of reclaimed or dry dug wells, static chamber was installed directly at the ground surface. In wells still filled with oil and/or water the chamber was equipped with an “apron” mounted on special sticks. The dynamics of concentrations changes varied from -0.871 to 119.924 ppm∙min-1 for methane and from -0.005 to 0.053% obj∙min-1 for carbon dioxide. Average methane emission was 1.9 g∙m-2∙d-1 and that of carbon dioxide was 26.95 g∙-2∙d-1. The measurements revealed that an abandoned oil field supplies significant amounts of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere although the emission of methane is lower than that measured e.g. in mud volcanoes located in various parts of the world.

Coffee production has been a major source of income in Indonesia since the early twentieth century. This study aimed to estimate the energy balances and determine the environmental impact of Robusta and Arabica coffee production as well as identify the measures to increase the efficiency of Robusta and Arabica yield using the life cycle assessment (LCA) method. The potential adverse impacts of processing ground coffee manifest themselves in the forms of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, acidification, as well as water and environmental pollution due to solid and liquid waste disposal. The total GHG emissions for Arabica coffee processing is 1,804 t CO2-eq year-1 while for Robusta, it is 1,356 t CO2-eq year-1. The total acidification potential for Arabica coffee processing can be given by 8,013 kg NO2-eq year-1 and 10,663 kg SO2-eq year-1, while for Robusta coffee processing, the potential for acidification is represented by 60.97 kg NO2-eq year-1 and 79.58 kg SO2-eq year-1, and the potential GHG per unit weight of Arabica and Robusta ground coffee processing were 98.7 CO2-eq kg-1 and Robusta 119.6 CO2-eq kg-1, respectively. The potential measures to mitigate this include replacing gasoline with biofuel, utilising liquid waste with chemical processing, and solid wastes of coffee production, such as brickquetess and bio-pellets for renewable energy.

The reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture is of particular importance at present. In recent times, biochar addition to the soil was suggested as a means of mitigating greenhouse gases emissions from arable fields. More specifically, biochars with useful properties and those produced from easily available waste materials are still being sought. In the presented experiment, the CH4 absorption potential of four biochars incubated at 60 and 100% water holding capacity with the addition of 1% CH4 (v/v) was investigated for 28 days at 25oC. The potato stem and raspberry stem biochars showed much higher potentials for CH4 uptake than wood offcuts biochar and sunflower husk biochar. Potato stem and raspberry stem biochars incubated at 60% water holding capacity were characterized by a methane uptake rate of 8.01 ± 0.47 and 5.78 ± 0.17 mg CH4-C kg-1 d-1, respectively. The methane removal potentials of the other biochars were clearly lower. The advantage of the biochars from raspberry and potato stems over the wood offcuts biochar also results from their significantly lower production of carbon dioxide. Consequently, these materials have a high potential for agricultural use, in view of their impact on the greenhouse gas balance of the soil.

The subject of paper is to focus the problem of carbon dioxide emission from seagoing ships. The paper presents analysis of possibilities of fuel consumption minimizing and this way reduction of carbon dioxide emission from seagoing ships. However, The VI Amendment to MARPOL Convention concerning prevention against air pollution by seagoing ships did not take into consideration carbon dioxide emission, the importance of this problem was perceived by international organizations among others by IMO. As a result corrections in VI Amendment to MARPOL Convention were introduced thus forcing reduction of CO2 emission by seagoing ships. Among means reducing emission of carbon dioxide into atmosphere the following are mentioned: construction modifications of new built ships i.e. reduction of ship speed, optimization of main engine and propeller selection, optimization of ship hull shape, application of resistance reducing hull coatings, use of alternative (ecological) fuels and utilization of propulsion plant waste heat. In turn, for ships already in operation methods for fuel consumption and carbon dioxide reduction can be individual for each ship full monitoring of main engine operational parameters and measurement of waste heat utilization rate. According to opinion of paper authors, the minimizing of carbon dioxide reduction can be mainly achieved by utilisation of exhaust gases heat for electric power production in steam turbo alternators running in one- or two stage steam pressure systems. The analysis executed in the paper of one- and two stage steam system advantages shows that one stage steam system is more economically profitable in practice application.

In the paper, the research on the process of optimizing the carbon footprint to obtain the low-carbon products is presented. The optimization process and limits were analyzed based on the CFOOD project co-financed by the Polish Research and Development Agency. In the article, the carbon footprint (CF) testing methods with particular emphasis on product life cycle assessment (LCA) are discussed. The main problem is that the energy received from the energy-meters per the production stage is not directly represented in the raw data set obtained from the factory because many production line machines are connected to a single measurement point. In the paper, we show that in some energy-demanding production stages connected with cooling processes the energy used for the same stage and similar production can differ even 25-40%. That is why the energy optimization in the production can be very demanding.

Industrial symbioses are intended to minimize greenhouse gas emissions, conserve resources and avoid waste through closed material cycles. The waste and residual materials of one actor become the resource of the other. The better use of raw materials can lead to cost and competitive advantages for the involved partners. The UBIS project investigates the realization of such industrial symbioses. Two showcases from the project region with focus on anaerobic digestion illustrate the effectiveness of industrial symbioses.

In many problems of transportation and environmental processes and designs, fitting of a continuous probability distribution to the greenhouse gas emissions data from cars may be helpful in predicting the probability or forecasting the frequency of occurrence of the greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuel for our cars, trucks, ships, trains, and planes, and planning beforehand. The objective of this paper is to study and conduct a statistical analysis of the greenhouse gas emissions data from cars. Since our data are skewed in nature, we fit the following well known skewed distributions: 3 parameter Birnbaum-Saunders (or fatigue-life), gamma, 3 parameter gamma, generalized extreme value, 3 parameter lognormal, 4 parameter Pearson 6 and Weibull distributions. We have tested the goodness of fit these distributions to a random sample of the greenhouse gas emissions data from 32 different models of cars to determine their applicability and best fit to these data based on the Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Anderson-Darling, and Chi-Squared Goodness-of-Fit Tests.

Global warming is of key importance among the many negative manifestations of human impact on the environment. The main cause of climate change and the observed global warming is the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) into the atmosphere, while the largest share of emissions is generated by transportation sector. It is declared that by 2050 GHG emissions in the transportation sector will be reduced by 90 per cent. In the part relating to road transport, a key role is to be played by digitization, transport automation, the use of intelligent traffic control systems and the abandonment of combustion engines in favour of electric ones. This study aims to present possible legal solutions aimed at introducing eco-routing solutions for vehicle traffic in the EU and obstacles to its widespread implementation and is aimed to begin discussion about this matter and the further studies in this area.

Potrzeby energetyczne związane z podgrzewaniem wody do podlewania warzyw w uprawach pod osłonami można z powodzeniem zapewnić przez użycie kolektorów słonecznych. Wykorzystane ciepło z kolektorów eliminuje użycie konwencjonalnych paliw, a tym samym ogranicza emisję gazów cieplarnianych. W pracy przeanalizowano w jakim stopniu zastosowanie 3 zestawów próżniowych kolektorów słonecznych obniżyło wyrażoną w ekwiwalencie dwutlenku węgla emisję gazów cieplarnianych. Do obliczeń wykorzystano dane pochodzące z upraw papryki, pomidora i ogórka prowadzonych na wełnie mineralnej i w podłożu organicznym. Na podstawie przeprowadzonej analizy wykazano, że w uprawie w podłożu organicznym i proponowanym zestawem kolektorów ograniczenia w emisji gazów cieplarnianych osiągnęły wartość 83%. Natomiast w uprawie na wełnie mineralnej ograniczenia w emisji gazów były większe, osiągając całkowite ograniczenie w uprawie pomidora.
Energy demand for warming up water used for watering vegetables cultivated under covers may be efficiently provided for by solar collectors. Consumed heat from collectors eliminates using of conventional fuels, and thus it reduces emission of greenhouse gases. The work involved analysis of the degree, to which using 3 sets of vacuum solar collectors reduced emission of greenhouse gases expressed in carbon dioxide equivalent. Data obtained from pepper, tomato and cucumber growing in mineral wool and organic ground was used in computations. Completed analysis proved that in case of vegetables grown in organic ground and with use of the proposed set of collectors, reductions in greenhouse gases emission reached 83%. Whereas, in case of plant growing in mineral wool reductions in gas emission were even higher, reaching complete reduction for tomatoes.

The purpose of this study is to forecast the long run implementation of Thailand’s sustainable development policy in three main aspects, including economic, social and environmental aspect for the the sanitary and service sectors from 2016 until 2045. According to the national data for the years 2000-2015, based on the ARIMAX model, it has been found that Thai economy system is potentially changed and growing rapidly by 25.76%, the population has grown by 7.15%, and the Greenhouse gas emissions will gradually increase by 49.65%, in the year 2045. However, based on the analysis above, if Thailand fails to run the afore-mentioned policy properly, it will be difficult to successfully implement sustainable development, because the increased emission is moving in the same direction with economy and social aspect of Thailand.

The article focuses on analysis of activities for climate protection within the transatlantic cooperation. In the first part of the study general determinants, interests and aims of the EU and the U.S. climate policies have been presented. The divergent interests and different European and American development priorities condition their mixed actions for climate protection, both at domestic level and within the frameworks of international climate negotiations. In the second part of the article difficulties in working out a common position of the EU and the U.S. on global activities for climate protection that consist on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions have been discussed. The analysis encompasses the reasons and implications of the specific U.S. and EU’s stances within the process of negotiations of new global climate agreement with ambitious reduction aims that should be signed in 2015 and implemented after 2020 (post-Kyoto). In the last part of the study some aspects of U.S. and EU’s actions for climate protection within the frameworks of transatlantic cooperation have been presented. The EU aimed at convincing the U.S. about the necessity for reduction of global temperature by two Celsius degrees relative to the level from preindustrial period and at adoption multiyear obligations as to reduction greenhouse gas emissions. That is why these issues have been included into the program of transatlantic cooperation.

Research background: The production and use of energy satisfies human needs, but also gives rise to a host of adverse environmental pressures, such as air pollution and waste generation. The issue of energy efficiency and climate chance resonates in the energy sector as one of the main producers of green-house gas emissions (GHG). While the European Union in general is doing well in reducing emissions and increasing the share of renewables, unfortunately, there are countries that are still far from reaching their goal. Purpose of the article: The paper is focused on the quantitative assessment of the link between the economic growth of the energy sector and the production of GHG emissions by the energy sector in V4 countries during the period 1995?2016. For this purpose, decoupling analysis will be realized. Methods: The decoupling of economic growth and the environmental pressures caused by this growth has a rich tradition within the sustainable development literature. The decoupling method was chosen for its ability to link economic and environmental indicators. Decoupling elasticity will be calculated with the aim of assessing the relationship between the economic growth of the energy sector (measured in GVA) and GHG emissions produced by the energy sector in V4 countries within the research period. Decoupling elasticity indicates different forms of the decoupling and coupling of the two variables. Findings & Value added: The results of the analysis suggest the prevailing strong decoupling of the economic growth of the energy sector and GHG emissions produced by the energy sector, which can be considered a positive trend. The findings of this paper are relevant for the government, state and public institutions and stakeholders in general, who play important roles in the preparation of programs, projects and policies to make energy generation, transport and use more efficient and environmentally sustainable.

Zwrócono szczególną uwagę na poziomy, a także dynamikę wzrostu emisji metanu i freonów oraz ich pochodnych i zamienników. Wskazano na uzasadnioną konieczność skupienia większego wysiłku społeczności międzynarodowej na ograniczeniu emisji pochodnych i zamienników freonów (HCFC i HFC) oraz metanu (CH4).
The article describes levels of GHG emissions and discusses their impact on Greenhouse effect. Particular attention was paid to the levels and growth dynamic of methane and CFCs and their derivatives and substitutes. Pointed out necessity to focus greater effort of the international community to reduce emissions derivatives and substitutes for chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs and HFCs) and methane (CH4).

All three Baltic States have reached good figures regarding the change in total greenhouse gas emissions from transport during 1990-2017. Particularly successful is Lithuania, showing a negative value of -2.7%. Latvia considerably lags behind Estonia (+15.1% vs. +1.5%). Amid the achievement of Latvian scientists, engineers and merchants, the authors point out the work of Lithuanian engineers who investigated how gaseous hydrogen affects the parameters of diesel internal combustion engine. Important to note that in the Baltic States, the activities of inland waterway vessels and the shunting locomotives are concentrated in only a few main cities. Regarding that, Baltic scientists and environment specialists nowadays are developing plans also for local air pollution decreasing, which can be carried out in particular cities or industrial areas, thereby allowing for improvements in air cleanliness and the ecological situation in concerned local area. A numerical estimation shows that applying the NYSMART technology, introduced in this paper, will make areas of active action of the high-volume diesels cleaner in the same amount as gained by photosynthesis of the urban green flora. In recent years, the developed technology of hydraulic piston compression allows producing numerous different vehicle fueling appliances for the CNG/bio-CNG fuel. The further development of this technology means the producing of various solutions, applicable at biogas/biomethane production sites, for CNG/bio-CNG compression, transportation and fast natural gas vehicles refueling in a cost effective and convenient way. The hydraulic piston compression and NYSMART have a potential in small and medium-scale technologies and therefore need to be developed further for applications with hydrogen. Production of biomethane and green hydrogen is delayed by the lack of state aid programmes in the Baltic States. Lithuania is on the way to change the situation in the coming years, with one of the first biomethane gas production plants due to be built near Panevėžys, in Šilagalys near the Via Baltica motorway. Summing up all aspects, the preconditions for the use of alternative fuels in the Baltic States are similar, allowing one to learn from other’s experience and to consider joint projects.

Na podstawie danych Głównego Urzędu Statystycznego (GUS) o zużyciu nośników energii i wskaźników emisyjności CO2 wg Krajowego Ośrodka Bilansowania i Zarządzania Emisjami (KOBiZE) oszacowano wielkość emisji gazów cieplarnianych powstałej w wyniku bezpośredniego zużycia energii w rolnictwie polskim w 2015 r. Wyniosła ona ogółem 11 125 tys. t CO2 e, w tym: dwutlenku węgla 10 521 tys. t, metanu - 546 tys. t, CO2 e, a podtlenku azotu - 58 tys. t CO2 e. W przeliczeniu na 100 ha użytków rolnych (UR) stanowiło to 77 t, a na 100 gospodarstw rolnych - 779 t. Największy udział w emisji gazów cieplarnianych (47%) miały paliwa ciekłe, w tym olej napędowy 44%. Udział paliw stałych w emisji gazów cieplarnianych wyniósł 38%, w tym węgla kamiennego energetycznego – 35%. Energia elektryczna powodowała 12,2% ogółu emisji gazów cieplarnianych powstałej w wyniku zużycia nośników energii w rolnictwie, paliwa gazowe - łącznie 2% (w tym gaz ciekły 1,5%), a ciepło - 1%.
Basing on Central Statistical Office (GUS) about the use of energy carriers and of the National Centre for Emission Management (KOBiZE) the emission the level and structure of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission from energy use in Polish agriculture in 2015 has been estimated. The value of this emission in total amounted to 11 125 thous. T CO2 e, of that: carbon dioxide 10 521 thous. t, methane - 546 thous. t CO2 e and nitrous oxide - 58 thous. t CO2 e. These emissions per 100 ha of the agricultural land amounted to 77 t, and for 100 farms - 779 t. Liquid fuels had the highest (47%) share of that Diesel oil 44%. The share of solid fuels amounted to 38%, of that hard coal - 35%. Electricity caused 12% of the total greenhouse emissions, gaseous fuels in total - 2% (of that LPG 1.5%), and heat - 1%.

Polska ma obowiązek corocznego raportowania i opracowywania bilansów emisji i pochłaniania gazów cieplarnianych oraz innych zanieczyszczeń powietrza. Inwentaryzację emisji zanieczyszczeń do powietrza przeprowadza Zespół Krajowego Ośrodka Bilansowania i Zarządzania Emisjami, opierając się głównie na współczynnikach emisji gazówi pyłów, które dla źródeł rolniczych zostały opracowane w państwach zachodnioeuropejskich i odzwierciedlają uwarunkowania rolnictwa w tych krajach. Specyfika produkcji rolniczej, w szczególności produkcji zwierzęcej w Polsce jest inna niż w krajach, w których wyznaczono te współczynniki. W związku z tym istnieje realna potrzeba opracowania własnych współczynników emisji dla wszystkich zanieczyszczeń. Celem pracy była analiza, na podstawie danych literaturowych, wartości współczynników emisji gazów szkodliwych z produkcji zwierzęcej, opracowanych w Polsce. Występują duże różnice w wartościach tych współczynników, co może wskazywać na pewne wątpliwości związane z procesem bilansowania zanieczyszczeń. Konieczne są zatem dalsze badania w tym zakresie.
Poland is obliged to report annually and to develop the balances of emission and absorption of greenhouse gases and other air pollutants. The Team of the National Center for Balance and Emission Management carries out the inventory of emissions to air, based mainly on the coefficients of gas and dust emissions, which for agricultural sources have been developed in the West European countries and reflect the conditions of agriculture in these countries. The specificity of agricultural production, especially livestock production in Poland is different than in countries where these factors were determined. Therefore, there is a real need to develop our own emission factors for all pollutants. The aim of this study was the analysis, based on literature data, of the coefficients of harmful gas emissions from livestock production, developed in Poland. There is a large scatter in the values of these coefficients, which may indicate possible doubts related to the process of pollution balancing. Therefore, further research in this field is necessary.

The chapter deals with results of cooperation within the project Electromobility in Czech-Polish Cross border Area. The electromobility is presented in comprehensive environmental and social background. The introduction is aimed at transport emission of exhaust gases resulting in global warming and harmful impact on the environment quality. The environment analysis is reflected in view of transport and passenger cars production. The chapter presents results of society analysis defining its attitude to electromobility in the region. The methodology of public questioning was chosen to reveal possibilities for electromobility development in Czech-Polish cross border area. The questions of the survey were formulated to record a public attitude and view of electromobility. The respondents’ answers reflect their awareness of this new sustainable transport.

The paper presents the results of a study on the impact of the cultivation of crops which may serve as a substrate for a biogas plant on the atmosphere. Subjects addressed in the study cover a range of issues related to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from this area of agricultural activity. The amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emitted to the atmosphere in the selected cultivation technologies of beet, maize for silage and grasses were calculated. Emissions of GHG from chemical fertiliser production corresponding to the quantities used in the individual technologies were analysed, and amounts of the emitted above-mentioned pollutants originating from diesel fuel used during agricultural treatments conducted with the use of agricultural machinery were calculated. Emission values were expressed in equivalent units – E CO2eq. The study demonstrated that technologies which result in the highest quantities of emission are maize cultivation technologies – the average value for the study crops is 1 428 490.56 g haˉ¹ CO2eq. The lowest level of pollutants in the form of emitted greenhouse gases originates from grass cultivation and its average value is 904 661.28 g haˉ¹ CO2eq.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań wpływu na atmosferę upraw roślin, które mogą posłużyć jako substrat do biogazowi. Zagadnienia poruszone w opracowaniu obejmują zakres problematyki związanej z emisją gazów cieplarnianych (GHG) z tego obszaru działalności rolniczej. Obliczono ilość emisji dwutlenku węgla (CO2), metanu (CH4) i podtlenku azotu (N2O) jakie zostały wyemitowane do atmosfery w wybranych technologiach uprawy buraków, kukurydzy na kiszonkę i traw. Rozważono emisje GHG z produkcji nawozów sztucznych odpowiadające ilościom zastosowanym w poszczególnych technologiach oraz wyliczone zostały ilości wyemitowanych wyżej wymienionych zanieczyszczeń pochodzących z zużytego oleju napędowego podczas przeprowadzonych za pomocą maszyn rolniczych zabiegów agrotechnicznych. Wartości emisji wyrażono w jednostce ekwiwalentnej – ECO2eq. Badania wykazały, że technologiami, z których pochodzą największe ilości emisji są technologie uprawy kukurydzy – średnia wartość z badanych upraw to 1 428 490,56 CO2eq. Najniższy poziom zanieczyszczeń emitowanych gazów cieplarnianych pochodzi z upraw traw i wynosi średnio 904 661,28 CO2eq.

Interest in the use of biomass for energy has increased significantly in the last few years. The latest report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change highlights the influence mankind has had on the climate: an unprecedented increase in GHG levels in the last 800,000 years and a rise of 40% in CO2 concentrations since pre-industrial times. The challenge now is to find energy alternatives, and in this context, one important option is bioenergy, one of the most important energy sourcesof the future. In light of this, the goal of this paper was to assess the sustainable potential of woodfuel resources in Italy using WISDOM methodology. WISDOM, developed by the FAO, has been applied in many countries around the world. From this study, at national level, household consumption was at 19.3 Mt in 2003 (averagevalue), while the potential supply of woody biomass (productivity) was 24.9 Mt(average value), with a surplus of almost 6 million tons between household consumption and productivity. This study represents an advance in knowledge of the biomass potential for energy use in Italy, and, as such, is subject to possible future improvement. Forest bioenergy development creates good opportunities to mobilize the production potential of European forests, and to contribute to a more climate-friendly, bio-based economy.

Celem pracy było określenie wskaźników emisji gazów cieplarnianych i amoniaku z tuczarni na głębokiej ściółce oraz porównanie ich z wartościami podawanymi w literaturze przedmiotu. Badania były prowadzone w gospodarstwie rolnym w województwie wielkopolskim, w okresie od marca do grudnia 2011 r. Stężenie gazów mierzono fotoakustycznym spektrometrem Multi Gas Monitor 1312. Obliczone średnie wartości wskaźników emisji wyrażone w g·d–1·DJP–1 oraz współczynniki zmienności były równe: amoniaku – 47,6 (VNH3 = 19,5%), podtlenku azotu – 8,6 (VN2O = 19,9%) i metanu – 199,8 (VCH4 = 44,2%). Wyznaczone wartości nie odbiegają od wskaźników emisji publikowanych w literaturze przedmiotu.
The aim of this study was to determine the ammonia and greenhouse gas emission factors from fattening pigs kept on deep litter and to compare it with the values available in the literature. Research was carried out on a farm in Wielkopolska province, from March to December 2011. Gases concentrations were measured by photoacustic Multi Gas Monitor INNOVA 1312. The calculated average emission factors and coefficients of variation were equal: for NH3 – 47.6 g·day–1·AU–1 (VNH3 = 19.5%), N2O – 8.6 g·day–1·AU–1 (VN2O = 19.9%) and for CH4 – 199.8 g·day–1·AU–1 (VCH4 = 44.2%). Their values do not differ from the emission factors published in the literature.

The process of decarbonization and the pursuit of zero-emissions growth are a challenge for maritime transport, while strict environmental regulations regarding greenhouse gas emissions call for changes in both organizational and technological processes. The aim of the article is to present the problem of carbon footprint in relation to the maritime transport industry . The article discusses the negative impact of sea transport on the environment. The main research objective was to shed light on carbon footprint in the context of maritime transport as well as to identify the possibilities of its reduction, including through regulatory measures. Various research methods were used in the study, including a literature review, a review of the documentation of IMO regulations, reports and an analysis of technologies implemented to reduce pollutant emissions in maritime transport.
