Opis:
Some new dihydropyrano[c]chromenes derivatives are synthesized from 4-hydroxycoumarin. The structure of newly synthesized compounds was confirmed by mass, 1H NMR and IR spectroscopy. Further, antimicrobial screening of these synthesized compounds was done against some bacterial (Gram positive as well as Gram negative) and fungal strains in N,N-dimethylformamide. It is observed that some of synthesized compounds exhibited significant antibacterial activity against Gram positive bacterial strains. The selected fungal strains were most resistant for the studied compounds as none of the synthesized compounds showed activity against any of the fungal strain studied. The best antibacterial activity was shown by ABR-10.

Opis:
Some new pyrazolo chalcone compounds were synthesized and their structure characterization was done by spectroscopic techniques such as FT-IR, 1H NMR and mass. Screenings of all these synthesized compounds were done in vitro against some bacterial and fungal strains in dimethyl sulphoxide and N,N-dimethyl formamide using agar well diffusion method. It is observed that N,N-dimethyl formamide is good solvent for these compounds in selected strains.

Some triazolo quinoline derivatives were synthesized and their structures were confirmed by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectroscopy. Screening of all these synthesized compounds were done in vitro against bacteria and three fungal strains in dimethyl sulphoxide and N, N-dimethyl formamide. It is observed that N, N-dimethyl formamide is good solvent for these compounds in selected strains.

Opis:
Continuous increase in the number of multidrug-resistant strains forces us to look for drugs with completely new mode of action. One of the bacterial property determining the pathogenicity of these microorganisms is their ability to obtain iron. Because in the living environment of these single-celled individuals, its concentration is much lower than this necessary for their growth. For this reason, bacteria created various type of iron aquisition systems, including the Feo system, which mechanism of Fe2+ ion uptake is not fully understood, and protein from the Hmu family belonging to ABC transporters. The Feo transport system is one of the most common systems that is exclusively responsible for importing Fe2+ ions. It consists of three proteins: FeoA, FeoB and FeoC. FeoB is a transmembrane protein that is believed to play a key role in the mechanism of Fe2+ ion uptake. The other two components are cytoplasmic proteins. Both, FeoA and FeoC, are cytoplasmic proteins resembling the construction of transcription regulators. ABC transporters play an equally important role in maintaining iron homeostasis. These include proteins from Hmu family. HmuUV complex catalyses the import of these ions in hem iron form. The structure of this complex consists of TMD dimer (HmuU) and NBD dimer (HmuV). The HmuU is considered to be a permease - just like the FeoB described earlier while HmuV is the ATP binding protein.

Opis:
Bacteria use quorum sensing (QS) to conduct gene expression programmes connected with collective behaviors. QS indicates on the capacity of bacteria to monitor their population density and regulate gene expression. QS activates from tens to hundreds of genes that underlie different biological processes. The QS-regulated processes organize horizontal gene transfer, the formation of biofilms, multicellular behaviors, microbe–host and microbe–microbe relations. The QS signaling requires the production, release, detection, exchange and perception of bacterial compounds, known as autoinducers or QS signals. Recently, new autoinducers have been discovered in bacteria and it has been shown how these molecules are recognized by the respective receptors. Autoinducers belong to three major classes: acyl-homoserine lactones (AHLs) used by Gram-negative bacteria, specific oligopeptides used by Gram-positive bacteria and universal autoinducers. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of molecular basis of the QS phenomenon, characterization of intra- and interspecies QS signaling molecules and biological processes regulated by these molecules.
Bakterie używają quorum sensing (QS) do przeprowadzania programów ekspresji genów związanych z zachowaniami grupowymi. QS oznacza zdolność bakterii do monitorowania gęstości swojej populacji i regulacji ekspresji genów. QS aktywuje od dziesiątek do setek genów, które są związane z różnymi procesami biologicznymi. Procesy regulowane przez QS są związane z horyzontalnym przepływem genów, tworzeniem biofilmów, zachowań wielokomórkowych, oraz relacji bakteria–żywiciel i bakteria–bakteria. Sygnalizacja QS wymaga wytwarzania, uwalniania, wykrywania, wymiany i percepcji komponentów nazywanych autoinduktorami lub sygnałami QS. Ostatnio u bakterii zostały odkryte nowe autoinduktory oraz wykazano jak te cząsteczki są rozpoznawane przez odpowiednie receptory. Autoinduktory należą do trzech głównych klas: do acylowanych laktonów homoseryny (AHLs) używanych przez bakterie Gram-ujemne, specyficznych oligopeptydów używanych przez bakterie Gram dodatnie i do autoinduktorów uniwersalnych. Celem artykułu jest przegląd bazy molekularnej zjawiska QS, w tym wewnątrz i międzygatunkowych cząsteczek sygnałowych QS oraz procesów biologicznych regulowanych przez te cząsteczki

Opis:
A novel biofi lter containing organic, bentonite and halloysite media was applied for elimination of microbial pollutants from the air of an industrial hatchery. The concentrations of total mesophilic bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, thermophilic actinomycetes, dust and bacterial endotoxin were determined in the air of hatchery during 2 months before installation of the biofi lter, and during 6 months after installation of the biofi lter, at the inlet and outlet ducts from each medium. Before installation of the biofi lter, the concentrations of total mesophilic bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, thermophilic actinomycetes, dust and endotoxin in the air were within the ranges of 0.97- 131.2 × 103 cfu/m3, 0.0-34.4 × 103 cfu/m3, 0.0-0.02 × 103 cfu/m3, 0.37-4.53 mg/m3, and 50.9-520,450.4 ng/m3, respectively. Enterococcus faecalis and Gram-negative bacteria (Acinetobacter spp., Escherichia coli, Enterobacter cloacae, and other species) prevailed among bacterial species recovered from the air of the hatchery. A total of 56 species or genera of bacteria were identifi ed in the air samples taken in the examined hatchery; of these, 11, 11 and 6 species or genera respectively were reported as having allergenic, immunotoxic and/or infectious properties The concentrations of total mesophilic bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, Enterococcus faecalis and endotoxin found at the inlet duct of the biofi lter after its installation were signifi cantly smaller compared to those recorded before its installation (p<0.05). The concentrations of Gram-negative bacteria, Enterococcus faecalis and dust found at the outlet ducts of biofi lter after its installation were signifi cantly smaller compared to those recorded at the inlet duct of the biofi lter (p<0.01). The concentrations of total meso-philic bacteria were also smaller at the outlet ducts of the biofi lter compared to that at the inlet duct; however, the difference was not signifi cant because of the massive growth of Streptomyces species in the biofi lter’s media which contaminated the outcoming air. In conclusion, the applied biofi lter proved to be effective in the elimination of potentially pathogenic bacteria, dust and endotoxin from the air of the hatchery. The effi cacy of the biofi lter could be improved by the inhibition of the Streptomyces growth in the media of the biofi lter.
