    This article investigates the autobiographic character of Polish-German/German-Polish migrant literature. The text refers to recent research in the German language, highlighting differences with approaches prevalent in Polish scholarship. At the same time, the article illustrates how the idea of “contact between neighboring philologies” can be realized in practice.

Christiana Albrechta w Kilonii; 4) Uniwersytet Lipski w Lipsku; 5) Uniwersytet im. Ernsta Moritza Arndta w Greifswaldzie; 6) Akademia Bałtycka w Lubece-Travemünde; 7) Europejska Akademia Meklenburgii/Pomorza Przedniego; 8) Fundacja Konrada Adenauera, filia w Rostoku, Niemiecki Parlamentem Deutscher Bundestag w Bonn i Berlinie; 9) Teatr Gripstheater w Berlinie, Teatr Uckermärkische Bühnen Schwedt; 10) Muzeum Krajoznawcze im. Ehma Welka w Angermünde; 11)Wkrzańskie Towarzystwo Literackie w Angermünde. Opisane są również wyprawy studyjne do Niemiec Północnych śladami pisarzy niemieckich. Te wszystkie aktywności ujęte są w szerszym kontekście rozwoju Instytutu, który jest tłem tych opisów i analiz. Swoją systemowością rozszerzyły one regionalistyczne spektrum oddziaływania nie tylko na całą Alma Mater Stetinensis, Euroregion Pomerania, ale również na dalszych zaodrzańskich partnerów z Meklenburgii/Pomorza Przedniego, Meklenburgii oraz Szlezwiku-Holsztynu. Poczynania te były nowatorskie nie tylko w odniesieniu do transgranicznych kontaktów, ale również w skali ogólnopolskiej germanistyki.
    This text is the first part of the report on the mandate activities of Dr. Andrzej Talarczyk, the coordinator at the Institute of German Philology at the University of Szczecin in the field of cooperation with academic and non-academic institutions in Germany. It covers the entire period of the existence of this organisational unit, i.e. the years 1985–2019 and the first academic year of the work of the newly established Institute of Literature and New Media. The description of this part concerns the following institutions: (1) German Embassy in Warsaw, (2) University of Rostock, (3) Sankelmark Academy in Oeversee, (4) Christian Albrechts University in Kiel, (5) University of Leipzig, (6) University of Greifswald, (7) Ostsee Academy in Lübeck-Travemünde, (8) European Academy Mecklenburg/Vorpommern in Waren, (9) Konrad Adenauer Foundation, branch in Rostock, (10) Grips-Theatre in Berlin, (11) Theatre Uckermärkische Bühnen in Schwedt, (12) Ehm Welk and Local History Museum in Angermünde, (13) Uckermärkische Literaturgesellschaft in Angermünde, (14) Academia Baltica in Oeversee, (15) Visitor Service of the German Bundestag in Bonn and Berlin (16), Euroregion in Szczecin. Study trips to northern Germany in the footsteps of German writers are also described. All these activities are presented in a wider context of the Institute’s development which forms a background to these descriptions and analyses. With their systemic nature, they extended the regionalist spectrum of impact not only to the whole Alma Mater Stetinensis, Euroregion Pomerania, but also to the other partners beyond the Oder – from Mecklenburg/Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein. These projects were innovative not only in terms of cross-border contacts, but also in terms of German studies in Poland as a whole.

Również tutaj te wszystkie aktywności ujęte są w szerszym kontekście rozwoju Instytutu, w tym powstania w 2015 r. – jako wynik wspólnej działalności piszącej te słowa z dr. Andrzejem Talarczykiem – Zakładu Literaturo- znawstwa Porównawczego, który to rozwój jest tłem opisów i analiz. Swoją systemowością działania, wyrażającą się m.in. stopniowym przechodzeniem do coraz to nowej jakości współpracy transgranicznej, działalność dr. Talarczyka rozszerzyła również regionalistyczne spektrum oddziaływania. Ilustruje to najdobitniej trwająca ponad 20 lat współpraca z Akademią Bałtycką w Travemünde (Lubece) – od polsko-niemieckich podróży studyjnych po Pomorzu Zachodnim do wspólnych polsko-niemiecko-skandynawskich regionalistycznych konferencji naukowych z ich dalszym rozwinięciem w formie powstania serii wydawniczej w Wydawnictwie Naukowym US „Badania Nowomarchijskie/ Neumärkische Forschungen” wraz z ukonstytuowaniem przy niej wydawniczej Rady Naukowej, we współpracy z którą powstały projekty edycji kolejnych 10 tomów tej serii. Jest to uwieńczenie jego interdyscyplinarnej działalności, ponieważ w skład Rady Naukowej wchodzą m.in. jego profesorowie wizytujący, pracujący dydaktycznie i naukowo w najbardziej dynamicznie rozwijającym się w strukturze IFG Zakładzie Literaturoznawstwa Porównawczego. To uwieńczenie jest kolejną nową jakością w historii IFG i dopełnia działalność naukową dr. Talarczyka, który przeprowadził – jak wynika z przedstawionych w tym dwuczęściowym tekście zestawień – łącznie dziewięć międzynarodowych konferencji naukowych i opublikował ponad 60 publikacji, w tym dziewięć edycji książkowych, z których jedna monografia (na bazie dysertacji doktorskiej) otrzymała ministerialną nagrodę naukową III stopnia. Jest to w zakresie literaturoznawstwa w historii IFG jedno z największych osiągnięć. To wszystko oznaczało w edukacji akademickiej wychodzenie naprzeciw obecnie praktykowanemu nauczaniu, opartemu na metodologii badań regionalistycznych, określanemu w krajach anglosaskich terminem area studies i uzasadnia użycie w tym kontekście określenia „szczecińskiego modelu germanistyki kulturowego pogranicza”.
    This text is the second part of the report on the mandate and work of Dr. Andrzej Talarczyk, coordinator at the Institute of German Philology at the University of Szczecin for cooper- ation with academic and non-academic institutions in Germany. It includes further areas of his organizational, teaching and research work according to the following subjects, in chronological order: (1) The message and mission of lectures, (2) New arrangements within the Socrates/Erasmus program, (3) Polish-German-Nordic regionalist academic con- ferences, (4) The Neumark / Terra incognita research project with the emergence of a new Polish-German book series “Badania Nowomarchijskie / Neumärkische Forschungen” (Neumark research). All these activities are embedded in the broader context of the Institute’s development. His engagement and joint efforts include support for the foundation of Chair of Compara- tive Literature. The work and development of this Chair form the background for the fol- lowing descriptions and analyses. With its systemic approach expressed, among other things, in the gradual transition to more and higher quality cross-border cooperation, work in the field of regional studies has continued to develop and expand thematically. This is most clearly illustrated by the cooperation with the Ostsee Academy in Lübeck-Travemünde which has lasted over 20 years – from Polish-German study trips through West Pomera- nia to joint Polish-German-Nordic (Scandinavian) regionalist academic conferences and the development of a series of books “Badania Nowomarchijskie / Neumärkische Forschun- gen”, published by the Szczecin University Press under his leadership. This resulted in draft editions of the next 10 volumes in this series. This is the culmination of this interdisciplinary activity, as members of this Council are visiting professors who have worked in teaching and research in the most dynamically developing organizational structure at the Institute of German Philology: the Department of Comparative Literary Studies. Moreover, this milestone marks another new quality in the history of this institute, and it rounds up and completes the academic activity of Dr. Talarczyk, as can be seen from this two-part series. Dr. Talarczyk has organized 9 scientific conferences, numerous student study trips as well as weekend seminars. He published over 60 publications, including 9 book editions, one of which, an independent monograph based on his doctoral dissertation, received a 3rd degree ministerial academic award. This is one of the greatest achievements in Comparative Literature over the entire history of the Institute of German Philology. For all the activities and achievements in regional research (area studies) described in this two-part report, it is legitimate to apply the designation “Szczecin Model for German Studies of the Cultural Border Region”. This model (in this personnel constellation) also merits a certain pioneering role, not only in the regional context.

    Die Grundthese des nachfolgenden Textes besagt, dass der polnischen Germanistik in den letzten zwei Dekaden des ‚realsozialistischen‘ Systems im Grunde genommen (die freilich vorhandenen Einschränkungen und immer wieder vorkommenden Ausnahmen sollen keineswegs geleugnet werden) große Freiheitsräume von diesem System zugestanden wurden. Diese seine Grundthese exemplifiziert der Verfasser an Erfahrungen, die ihm selbst zuteil wurden. Sie sind insoweit aussagekräftig, als der Autor schon seit 1968 in der polnischen Germanistik als Forscher, Essayist und Rezensent tätig war.
    Podstawowa teza prezentowanego tu tekstu brzmi, że germanistyce polskiej czasów ostatnich dwu dekad PRL-u przysługiwały znaczne ‚przestrzenie wolności‘. Formułując tak wyostrzoną tezę, autor opiera się na własnych doświadczeniach i obserwacjach. Gromadził je jako badacz, eseista i recenzent.
    In the present paper reference is made to the projected, for the early 2009, periodical Convivium. On the basis of my long term experience I describe various relations, which in the times of Peoples Republic of Poland existed between the Polish centres of German studies and the corresponding centres existing in the West.

    Die Germanistik als wissenschaftliches Fach sieht gegenwärtig im Hinblick auf Profil, Inhalte und Methoden natürlich nicht mehr so aus, wie sie im disziplinenbildenden 19. Jhd. konzipiert und etabliert wurde. Sie hat eine wechselvolle Fachgeschichte durchlaufen und steht derzeit vor großen Herausforderungen. In diesem Kontext hat der Beitrag vor, eine neue oder zumindest differenziertere Standortbestimmung der Germanistik und ihrer Erscheinungsformen zu erarbeiten. So stellt er einige Überlegungen zu aktuellen Grundsatzfragen bezüglich der Fachtypologie, der Konzeptualisierung, der Verortung und der Perspektiven der Germanistik (in ihren mannigfaltigen Ausprägungen) an und diskutiert diese in ihrem mehrsprachigen und multikulturellen Referenzrahmen. Vor diesem Hintergrund werden Elemente der Konturen und Leistungen einer speziell ostmitteleuropäischen Germanistik herausgearbeitet.
    Germanistyka jako dyscyplina naukowa odbiega obecnie ‒ jeśli chodzi o profil, treści i metody nauczania ‒ od germanistyki zaprojektowanej i ugruntowanej w XIX wieku, w którym tworzone były poszczególne dziedziny nauki. Germanistyka posiada obfitującą w zmiany historię i stoi obecnie przed ogromnymi wyzwaniami. W tym kontekście niniejszy artykuł jest próbą określenia nowej lub co najmniej zróżnicowanej funkcji germanistyki i jej wariantów. Artykuł podejmuje rozważania na temat aktualnych, podstawowych zagadnień dotyczących typologii przedmiotu, konceptualizacji, funkcji i perspektyw germanistyki (w jej wielorakich odmianach) i omawia je w wielojęzycznych i multikulturowych europejskich ramach. Na tej podstawie opracowane zostają ogólne zarysy i osiągnięcia, przede wszystkim germanistyki wschodnio-środkowoeuropejskiej.
    German Studies as an academic field today, in terms of profile, content and methods, are different from how the discipline was designed and established in the modelgiving 19th century. It has undergone a history full of changes, and is facing major challenges positioning of German Studies and their manifestations. Thus, it raises some questions concerning the current principles in terms of terminology, conceptualization, positioning and prospects of German Studies (in their various forms) and discusses these issues in their multilingual and multicultural European framework of reference. Against this background, elements of the outline and the performance of specially Eastern-Central European German Studies are elaborated upon.

    Im September 1976 begann die Tätigkeit des Verfassers als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an den Nationalen Forschungs- und Gedenkstätten der klassischen deutschen Literatur in Weimar. Sie brachte Begegnungen mit ‚westlichen‘ Fachkolleginnen und Fachkollegen mit sich, und es entstanden Einzelkontakte, die sich als dauerhaft erwiesen. Auch Einladungen zu Symposions- und Vortragsreisen konnten schließlich wahrgenommen werden. Im nachfolgenden Text wird von alledem berichtet.
    Działalność autora artykułu, jako współpracownika Narodowego Centrum Badań i Pamięci niemieckiej literatury klasycznej w Weimarze, datuje się od września 1976 roku. Wynikiem tej działalności były spotkania z ‚zachodnimi‘ specjalistami z dziedziny literatury a także trwałe kontakty osobiste. Realne stały się wreszcie zaproszenia na sympozja oraz gościnne wykłady. Niniejszy tekst jest sprawozdaniem z wydarzeń tamtego okresu.
    September 1976 begun the author’s function as research assistent at Nationale Forschungs- und Gedenkstätten der klassischen deutschen Literatur in Weimar. Hereby he increasingly came into contact with ‚western‘ experts; as a consequence it came to individual contacts with colleagues which were proved to be lasting. Finally, he was even able to accept invitations to symposiums and lecture tours.

    In dem Artikel werden einige Vorschläge präsentiert, die die Rolle der Germanisten im Prozess des Dialogs mit der polnisch-deutschen regionalen Tradition Schlesiens präzisieren.
    W artykule zaprezentowano kilka propozycji precyzujących rolę, jaką powinni odgrywać germaniści w procesie dialogu z polsko-niemiecką tradycją regionalną Śląska.
    The article presents several proposals of defining the role that Germanists should play in the process of dialogue with Polish-German regional tradition of Silesia.

    Opis:
    In diesem Beitrag wird versucht, die Lage der Auslandsgermanistik in Belgien / Brüssel genauer zu schildern. Dabei fällt sofort eine zunehmende Heterogenität der Lernergruppen für Deutsch als Fremdsprache (DaF) ins Auge. Eine Diskussion über die Mindestanforderungen einer solchen Ausbildung drängt sich auf.
    Przedmiotem niniejszego artykułu jest opis stanu germanistyki w Belgii, w Brukseli. Znacząca jest heterogeniczność grupy uczących się języka niemieckiego jako obcego (DaF). W związku z tym pojawia się kwestia podstawowych wymagań w kształceniu językowym.
    In this paper the situation of German studies (i. e., German language and literature) in Belgium / Brussels is discussed, which is characterized by heterogeneity concerning the groups of GFL-learners (German as a Foreign Language). The question is what teaching and learning objectives might be expected in such a foreign language learning context.

    Der Verfasser berichtet, ausgehend von kritischen Überlegungen zur Möglichkeit, vergangene Wirklichkeiten verlässlich wiederzugeben, über ein Vierteljahrhundert intensiver Zusammenarbeit mit Kolleginnen und Kollegen aus Ländern jenseits des Eisernen Vorhangs. Als Mitarbeiter und Mitherausgeber der Schiller-Nationalausgabe war er immer wieder in Weimar, nahm an Tagungen in verschiedenen Städten der DDR teil, wurde zu Vorträgen eingeladen und versuchte, durch Gegeneinladungen bestehende Kontakte zu intensivieren. Außerdem bekam er die Chance, mit Vertretern der ungarischen, vor allem aber der polnischen Germanistik vertrauensvoll zu kooperieren. Die vielen Dialoge akzentuierten die politische Trennung und machten sie zugleich ein wenig erträglicher.
    Autor artykułu – wychodząc z krytycznych rozważań na temat możliwości wiarygodnego przedstawienia przeszłości – składa relację z trwającej ponad ćwierć wieku współpracy z koleżankami i kolegami zza Żelaznej kurtyny. Jako współpracownik i współwydawca narodowego wydania dzieł Schillera wielokrotnie przebywał w Weimarze, uczestniczył w konferencjach w różnych miastach NRD, był zapraszany na gościnne wykłady i starał się poprzez zapraszanie na wykłady germanistów z NRD wzmocnić istniejące kontakty. Ponadto miał możliwość współpracy z przedstawicielami węgierskiej, przede wszystkim jednak polskiej germanistyki. Liczne dyskusje podkreślały istniejący rozdział polityczny, czyniąc go przez to nieco łatwiejszym do zaakceptowania.
    The author reports about his intensive cooperation with colleagues from beyond the Iron Curtain during a quarter of a century, though on the basis of critical considerations concerning the possibility of correctly reproducing the past. As editor and coeditor of the Schiller National Edition, he was in Weimar time and again, participated in conferences in various cities of the former GDR, accepted invitations, and tried to intensify existing contacts by counter-invitations. Moreover, he had the good luck to be allowed confidentially to cooperate with Hungarian and, above all, with Polish acahttp demics specializing in German studies. The numerous dialogues set in relief the political divide, while they simultaneously rendered it somewhat more bearable.

    Der Artikel geht der Frage nach, wie die ehemals multikulturelle Industriestadt Łódź in der Region (aber auch darüber hinaus) wahrgenommen und wie darüber (interdisziplinär) geforscht und geschrieben wird. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei vor allem auf der Rolle der Łódźer Germanistik bei der Wiederentdeckung der deutsch-polnisch-jüdischen Vergangenheit in den letzten zwanzig Jahren.
    Niniejszy artykuł podejmuje kwestię, w jaki sposób Łódź, niegdyś wielokulturowe miasto przemysłowe, jest w regionie i po za nim postrzegana, interdyscyplinarnie badana i opisywana. W szczególności tekst koncentruje się na roli, jaką łódzka germanistyka odegrała na przestrzeni ostatnich dwudziestu lat w procesie ponownego odkrywania wspólnej dla Niemców, Polaków i Żydów przeszłości.
    The article deals with the perception of the former multicultural industrial city of Łódź in the region itself (and beyond), how research on this topic looks like, and how one writes about it. The text focuses especially on the role of the German Studies in Łódź in process of rediscovering, in the last twenty years, the city’s German-Polish-Jewish past.

    Opis:
    Für einen Westdeutschen war es durchaus möglich, während des ‚Kalten Krieges‘ Kontakte zu Kollegen in den sozialistischen Ländern aufzubauen und sogar zu enger und längerfristiger Kooperation zu gelangen. Lediglich die Berliner Mauer und die ‚Zonengrenze‘ waren unüberwindbar, und auch die Grenzen zur Sowjetunion waren dicht. Der Autor berichtet über seine Beziehungen zu Polen, zur Tschechoslowakei, zu Ungarn und zu Rumänien bis zur ‚Wende‘, die alle Schranken aufhob.
    Dla Niemca z RFN nawiązanie w okresie ‚zimnej wojny‘ kontaktów, a nawet ścisłej i długotrwałej współpracy, z kolegami pochodzącymi z państw socjalistycznych nie stanowiło problemu. Jedynie mur berliński i granice między strefami były nie do pokonania, szczelne były również granice Związku Radzieckiego. Autor artykułu opowiada o swoich związkach z Polską, Czechosłowacją, Węgrami i Rumunią do czasu ‚przełomu‘, który zniósł wszelkie bariery.
    In the period of cold war Western Germans could not be prevented from establishing social contacts with colleagues in socialist countries. In the long run, exterior barriers could not endanger firmly established connections based on tolerance and respect. The author’s report deals with the developing relations to Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania and even with the Soviet Union and the German Democratic Republic from the late fifties to the turning-point about 1990, when the great change began.
