The article presents the results of an educational diagnosis. The study it describes analyses the style of invitations prepared by the Polish middle school pupils and its significant variation despite the fact that the subjects did identical tasks in identical conditions. The author is interested in the pupils’ awareness of style, which is why the study analyses only the texts whose writers have made a deliberate and conscious choice of stylistic models. The diversity of style has turned out to be the most pronounced on the level of register, and the main reason behind the style variation among the texts was rooted in the clash between opposing stylistic systems (formality vs. informality) and the overlapping of several discourses: the school, internet and colloquial discourse. The pupils have shown much creativity, choosing one of the three strategies to cope with the paradoxes of style designed by the authors of the task. None of the variants of style employed by the pupils in their invitations can be judged as incorrect or artificial. In such a situation, the basic category evaluating the style of

The aim of the present article was to conduct a primary analysis of a style/styles of a modern self-help manual (particularly in the form of a book), which analysis would take into consideration the following detailed problems: a handbook versus typical styles, the stylistic component of the handbook model, the style of a handbook and/versus the “handbook-like” style, the style of handbook texts. The observations presented here should be perceived as a fragment of a broader project which focused on recreating a model (a pattern) of the genre and its textual realisations. The analyses were conducted in line with the paradigms of linguistic genology and stylistics. The subject was selected on the basis of an assumption pertaining to the uncertain discursive status of handbooks – being now an expansive, polymorphic and transgressive form of discourse, which spreads its features to other genre forms. Uncertain remains the stylistic affiliation of this form of utterance, recognised by receivers/readers. Within the handbook sphere (no matter what genre it represents), one may introduce indicators of numerous styles and language variants. Specialist fields of science (law, Information Technology, medicine, etc.) impose their own, more or less hermetic ‘language’ on genre actualisations. Language styles are represented not only by verbal codes. In the case of handbooks, equally important is the image code – a picture, chart, or in a broader sense: a graphic shape of the text (a book). The review of textual empiricism should also be extended by stylistic distinctiveness which arises from individual preferences and traits of the author of discourse.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to describe style characteristics of the protocol and make an attempt to determine their hierarchy. The analysis refers to methodological postulates of Maria Wojtak concerning the study on genre style and style of non-literary texts. A set of five manuscripts of Polish societies from the second half of 19th century serves as a materiał for the article. The analysis enables to distinguish features that are determined by the structure and the pragmatics, as well as those connected with the origin of used words and expressions. Among those can be distinguished two primary style characteristics: implementation of templates and concision and five secondary: formality, use of formulas, precision, impersonality and use of directives. Repertoire of features’ exponents is connected with functioning of the protocol genre model (canonical and alternative) and the method of recording (synthetic, narrative). Apart from typical phenomena related to the communication sphere (in which the protocol is situated), common features of non-literary texts (e.g. persuasiveness, suggestiveness) are noticeable. These features are clearly conditioned by circumstances in which particular societies functioned.

Viktar Martsinovich’s novels reveal the aesthetic searches conducted in modern Belarusian literature. In the work “Sphagnum” the classical form of the social novel is originally reproduced, where various representatives of the society are convincingly shown in colorful images-types. The novels “Lake of Joy” and “Revolution” reveal first of all the psychological reflection of main characters, who act as symbolic incarnations of the spiritual aspirations of our time. Novels with assessments of psychological anti-utopia “Language” and “Night” represent the author’s prediction of the loss of national identity and spiritual literary tradition.

Testament in the Polish culture is an administrative-legal genre, accomplished in its own style of the genre, based on the official and legal style. In the stylistic aspect it shows authoritarianism, impersonality, templatedness and meticulousness of expression. As an example of the legal discourse it tends to be unambiguous, logical, concrete, and it contains specialist terminology related to dispositions of the estate in contemplation of death. It refers manly to the material sphere of life, yet it implies abundance of various hidden feelings: love, gratitude, attachment, hatred, contempt, or revenge. The most popular and expansive type of the genre is a notarial will executed in the form of a notarial deed. Holographic wills are realized more freely, with use of elements of colloquial style, may include expressive speech acts or take the form of an informal letter. The stylistic form of allographic and oral wills is similar to a report. Notarial testaments are becoming dominant and influence the linguistic shape of all other types of the genre. Lack of legal verbosity in a document, while meeting the requirement concerning appointment of an heir, date and testator’s signature, does not invalidate the legal force of the utterance.

The predominant way of stylistic investigation - up till nowadays - follows the di chotomie ‘token-type’ principle. It is argued here that the comprehensive study of style be carried along the rhetoric-interpretative lineš, which requires a letrachotomic ap- proach (thinking - discourse - genre - utterance), thinking and utterance levels being of paramount importance. So, one should distinguish style of thinking, utterance style, genre style and discourse style. The analysis of continuity/discreteness is carried oul on four varieties of discourse: business, scientific, everyday (set in f literary one ) and poetic. The results show that the antinomy o f continuity/discreteness is highly varřable in each ilem of the antinomy - from continuity to discreteness and backwards; the scale o f variability dependent, though, on the type o f discourse. This fact shows that this antinomy might be treated as a stylistic feature of communication, alongside with other features of textuality.

The dynamie chaos theory applied to linguistics casts light on the role of Perm school of functional stylistics (M.N. Kozhina) as an odd attractor promoting the study of text in dynamics, especially the functional stylistic-semantic categories of text.It is argued here that modem situation in linguistics is shaped by the application of global context (individual cognitive system - on the personal level, and culture in all its heterogeneity - on the social level) to the mainstream research of language in use. This methodological demand is met by functional pragmatics as whole semiotics embracing all aspects of semiosis. lt ensures the blend of cognitive and interpretive models with their specific procedures in revealing the subtleties of language in use. That is exemplified in the analysis of a chunk of fictive text. Besides, we set forth the category of tonality which denotes attitudes and tones permeating discourse, in the light ofM.N. Kozhina's contribution to the field.

Collective memory, defined as ‘acollection of imagesof community members about their past which are included in cultural texts,’ (Wójcicka 2015: 68), ‘images about the past activated in the process of social communication in order to meet the cul-tural and political needs of the present’ (Czachur 2018: 11), is unavailable directly. It can be reached only through representation of the past expressed in different kinds of signs. Thus, collective memory has the character of a sign. Based on that assumption, the author presents the style and genre diversity of collective memory. She shows the role of language style in collective memory and puts forward a ques-tion about what function speech genre has in remembering, recalling, reminding and forgetting. She presents complex relations between memory and speech genre, which she treats as a sign of oblivion. In the last part of the article, the author offers a typology of memory genres distinguishing primarily (intentionally) mnemonic and secondarily(functionally) mnemonic genres.

The author has investigated a corpus of informal email messages produced by post intermediate Czech learners of English. The method of analysis draws upon Biber & Conrad (2009) employing primarily a qualitative analysis as part of the author´s dissertation. The subject of the analysis is a specific utterance realising the poetics of the profile of recollection. The author of the utterance refers to the convention of the genre only in the framework of the text. He uses a variety of concepts in the main segment, adding the general shape of a letter with elements of memories, vita and biography to the statement. The originality of expression, however, is determined by references to other genres adopting the nature of genre copies. In the early passages of the utterance, a funeral oration emerges from the obituary form, and in further parts reviews and other forms of critical literary discourse are filtered through the remembrances. The stylistics of utterance diversifies and enriches epistolary conventions as well asothermanners of a monologue into a dialogic utterance.

The author focuses on the history of the Polish scientific educational style. The 18th century science in is an area for empirical, theoretical, and practical knowledge of the natural world. The article discusses a Polish text by Krzysztof Kluk, Zwierząt domowych i dzikich, osobliwie krajowych, historii naturalnej początki i gospodarstwo (The beginnings of natural history and husbandry of farmed and wild animals, of domestic animals in particular) (vol. 1, 1779). The author provides us with a basic outline of zoology in 18th century and proposes a lecture on animals living in Poland. His lecture has two narrative planes: scientific and colloquial. In this article, the author proposes a methodology of text analysis. Careful stylistic analysis of 18th century scientific texts shows that Polish handbooks of zoology and economy have features that characterize modern scientific texts, namely bilingual communication, preference for specialist language, rhetorical figures, use of specific verb forms and distinct narrative structure.

Unlike the majority of linguistic researchers, we consider the compliment as a speech genre, and a praise as a speech tactic of a positive assessment of the addressee. This tactic is the main and only speech tactic designed to serve the complimentary purpose, which expresses a positive attitude towards the interlocutor. Specifics of the compliment as a speech genre are defined by it possessing communicative independence and completeness. Unlike other genres of speech etiquette, the compliment is not attached to a certain situation and represents a facultative element of phatic communication. The etiquette essence of a compliment presupposes a certain convention of its contents, therefore theoretically it is supposed that the stated positive assessment shouldn’t be verified by the addressee. However, the importance of the category of sincerity for the Russian language consciousness determines the fact that in modernRussian communicative culture there is a special style of compliment which is caused by an aspiration of the sender to evoke trust of the interlocutor to the contents of a statement made. Markers of this style are various language emotional and estimated means and the structural-syntactic features particular to spontaneous informal conversation.

The reorientation of linguistics to the study of the regularities of its functioning in stylistics, manifested in the fact that functional style has been regarded as a type of language in any sphere of human activity, regards language in the aspect of differentiation and modification in the basic speech varieties. It is not by chance that text samples from different areas of communication are used in frequency dictionaries. Understanding style as a way to integrate speech performance first put forward the questions of the compositional-semantic organization of the text, the realization of its categories, constructive principles, and techniques. In functional stylistics studies the two main areas – the use of language and the organization of a speech performance – are analyzed as complementary, but cohesion requires understanding the regularities of the functioning of language units in a text with many objectives, updated in texts of the given sphere. To resolve this problem, it is reasonable to rely on the notion of speech genres, each of which is a sequence of standard cognitive-communicative actions – structural elements acting as an object in the text of spiritual socio-cultural activities. The analysis of these actions has revealed and systematized lexical units in communicative composition of language material (Gasparov 2010). This text-centered study of functioning of lexical and other means is of interest not only for the theory of style (and, more broadly, in speech study), but also to practice learning the language in its functional varieties.

The paper analyzes a notion of style developed by S. Gajda as a humanistic structure of a text. The characteristics of a scientist’s notion with presumably wide (for stylistics) subject area – implementation of personal author and social cultural manifestations of text activity in different versions of comprehensive organisation of a verbal product – and stylistics categories with huge potential for synthesis are given. The sources of a style as a higher organizational body for a text in the works of the representatives of aesthetic realism school, Russian and Czech scientists are looked at. The fruitfulness of the introduction of human activity understandings into the integrated research of style is justified.

Przyjmując za punkt wyjścia istnienie stylów i gatunków tekstu, opisanych przez A. Awdiejewa I G. Habrajską (Wprowadzenie do gramatyki komunikacyjnej, t.2., Łask 2006), autorka próbuje określić, jakie cechy stylistyczne (ewentualnie też gatunkowe) mają komentarze internetowe na przykładzie komentarzy zamieszczanych na portalu Onet.pl. Obserwacja wykazuje, że badane teksty mają przede wszystkim potoczne wykładniki językowe, ale nie im też wykładników publicystycznych. Można zatem mówić o stylu mieszanym. Komentarz internetowy jest nowym gatunkiem tekstu. 
Assuming text styles and genres as described in Awdiejew and Habrajska (2006), in this paper I try to determine which stylistic (genre) features can be proposed for internet commentaries, basing on those placed in Onet.pl. The study shows that the analyzed texts have mostly typological indicators of colloquial style, but they also possess typological indicators of journalistic genres. We can thus propose the existence of mixed style.

W opracowaniu przyjmuję rozumienie gatunku jako modelu określonego typu tekstu. Rozpatruję więc gatunek jako wzorzec tekstu, na który składają się wszystkie jego płaszczyzny (formalna, poznawcza, pragmatyczna, aksjologiczna, stylistyczna). Interesuje mnie przede wszystkim płaszczyzna stylistyczna konkretnego zdarzenia komunikacyjnego, jakim jest tekst obowiązującej dziś ustawy zasadniczej, tj. Konstytucji RP (1997 r.).Konstytucja w wymiarze stylistycznym jest wielobarwna. Dominuje władczy suchy styl normatywny z wysoką frekwencją nakazów, obowiązków i uprawnień, ale, w przeciwieństwie do innych gatunków sfery urzędowo-prawnej, silnie obecne są też elementy wysokiego, kunsztownego stylu retorycznego realizowanego nie tylko w preambule, ale także w uroczystych aktach ślubowań prezydenta i posłów. Te swoiste teksty w tekście podkreślają doniosłość konstytucji jako najważniejszego dla wspólnoty państwowej aktu prawnego. Na styl gatunkowy konstytucji mają również wpływ przekonania ideologiczne podmiotu prawodawczego.
In this paper I take the meaning of genre as a model of a specified type of text. Therefore, I consider genre as a pattern of the text, which consists of all its planes (formal, cognitive, pragmatic, axiological, stylistic). I am especially interested in the stylistic plane of a concrete communicative event, which is the current text of the fundamental law, i.e. of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland (1997). The constitution in the stylistic dimension is multi-colour. A normative dry imperious style is dominant, with a high frequency of orders, duties and rights, but contrary to the other genres of official and legal spheres, there are also strongly present elements of high, elaborative rhetoric style exe-cuted not only in the preamble, but also in the solemn acts of president’s and MPs’ oaths. These particular texts in the text underline the significance of the constitution as the most important legal act for the state community. The ideo-logical convictions of the legislative body have also an influence on the genre style of the constitution.

Genres are among the most discussed topics in popular music studies. The attempt to explain issues as complex and layered as how musical genres are born, how they work and what they ontologically are cannot avoid opening a box full of theoretical problems, questions and tools that need to be understood and used in order to say something significant on genre today. Despite the long story of this theoretical debate (roots of which can be traced back to ancient Greece) and the variety of disciplines involved (e.g. literature, music and film studies, but also philosophy, sociology, cultural studies and semiotics), it is difficult to find survey papers that can give an overview of such a rich research environment. This paper attempts to fill that void by trying to systematize the main (contemporary) perspectives on musical genre, in particular non-essentialist theories coming from the overlapping fields of musicology and sociology. Most importantly, its overview stresses the necessity of an interdisciplinary study of musical genre, which – as an exemplum of extraordinarily layered phenomenon of the human production of culture – intertwines technical, social, discursive, commercial, historical and other elements, thus requiring an approach capable of accounting for as much of its many layers of meaning as possible.

They both find out text, context, genre. But traditional stylistics find out these categories as mental and aesthetic phenomena, and discourse studies - as pragmatic and sociál.

The present study is devoted to the systematization of genres of religious style from the point of view of communicative-pragmatic and categorical-textual aspects. The communicative-pragmatic approach is based on the components of the communication situation. The categorical-textual approach is based on the analysis of the essential features of the text. These approaches open the possibility of analyzing the text material “beyond” the language. This is important in the context of bilingualism of religious communication. Communicatively-pragmatic approach allows us to reveal the genre-forming features of Russian religious texts and their Church Slavonic counterparts.

Neologism ‘temporary stylistic deposits’ used in the title allows surmounting the phe- nomenon of stylistic polymorphism of a contemporary prayer book designed for youth in the temporalistic perspective.The author concentrates on two tendencies: stylistic traditionalism (conservatism) and stylistic modemism.The first tendency means reaching for the attributes of the traditional religious style, both in forms of utterances as well as language forms that have existed in religious utte- rances for centuries.The modemisational tendencies are linked to introduction in prayer texts contemporary life realia (computers, the internet), and colloquial or even slang wording.The article affirms the author’s thesis on coexistence in the contemporary religious di- scourse of utterances that have originated in various epochs.

Opis:
The author analyses collections of texts included as inscriptions on religious pictures – miniature portraits of figures representing the domain of sacrum (e.g. Mother Mary or the Saints). Since these inscriptions are found in the same place and time, and they share their communicative function, they can be treated as representative of the same genre. A philological analysis of these texts shows them as manifestations of the convention of fixed prayer (this type of message makes a central and unalterable component of the collection). At the same time, the inscriptions under analysis also contain texts with a catechetical function which make the whole text play a role of a miniature version of a prayer book. Thanks to the inscriptions in question, private forms of religious rite are bestowed a proper form, while the contact of the faithful with the Saints are kept within the doctrinal limits. Philologically speaking, these inscriptions give insight into and help preserve the traditional variety of religious style.

The determination of genre end style paradigm of the small prose of the Ukrainian writer by main features of expressionism aesthetics is examined in the article. The dependence of genre-composition, singularities (fragmentation, underplot, with the inclusion of the complicated set of leitmotifs in the plot) as well as style peculiarities (especially the apocalyptical, imagery, the tendency to saturation and the phrase expression) on the epiphany of death as one of the dominating artistic devices of K. Polishchuk`s prose is considered.
