Opis:: The objective of this study was to estimate variance components of Polish Arab horses’ racing performance. The traits studied were the log of annual earnings and rank. Fixed effects of the year of race, herd, sex, the annual number of starts and random animal and permanent environment effects were evaluated on both earnings and rank at finish in Polish Arab horses. The obtained data included 2243 records on 4- and 5-year-old horses by 143 sires. Only races in which 4- and 5-year-olds competed were used. Heritability estimates of earnings and rank at finish were 0.22 and 0.25, respectively. Repeatability estimates of these traits were the same as heritability estimates. All the estimates of genetic and phenotypic correlations between the log of earnings and rank at finish were high and positive. Earnings and rank are good criteria for genetic improvement. Rank seems to be a better measure of racing performance.

Opis:: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of animal handling, defined as the so-called human factor, on the level of reproductive parameters of female mink.We analyzed some reproductive parameters of 6 348 one- and two-year-old Scanbrown females, such as fertility, prolificacy and rate of rearing the young. Mink were divided into four groups; group I and II consisted of one-year-old females, group III and IV comprised females at age two years. Individual groups of females were operated by four different teams of workers. The results indicate a strong influence of the quality of care on the parameters of breeding.
Celem pracy było określenie, jaki wpływ na poziom wybranych parametrów rozrodczych samic norek ma właściwa obsługa zwierząt, definiowana jako tak zwany czynnik ludzki. Analizie poddano wybrane parametry rozrodu 6348 samic jednorocznych i dwuletnich odmiany scanbrown, takie jak: płodność, plenność oraz wskaźnik odchowu młodych. Norki podzielono na cztery grupy, grupę I i II stanowiły samice jednoroczne, grupę III i IV samice dwuletnie. Poszczególne grupy samic obsługiwane były przez cztery różne zespoły pracowników. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują na duży wpływ jakości obsługi zwierząt na analizowane parametry rozrodu.

Opis:: The paper presents an identification procedure of electromagnetic parameters for an induction motor equivalent circuit including rotor deep bar effect. The presented procedure employs information obtained from measurement realised under the load curve test, described in the standard PN-EN 60034-28: 2013. In the article, the selected impedance frequency characteristics of the tested induction machines derived from measurement have been compared with the corresponding characteristics calculated with the use of the adopted equivalent circuit with electromagnetic parameters determined according to the presented procedure. Furthermore, the characteristics computed on the basis of the classical machine T-type equivalent circuit, whose electromagnetic parameters had been identified in line with the chosen methodologies reported in the standards PN-EN 60034-28: 2013 and IEEE Std 112TM-2004, have been included in the comparative analysis as well. Additional verification of correctness of identified electromagnetic parameters has been realised through comparison of the steady-state power factor-slip and torque-slip characteristics determined experimentally and through the machine operation simulations carried out with the use of the considered equivalent circuits. The studies concerning induction motors with two types of rotor construction – a conventional single cage rotor and a solid rotor manufactured from magnetic material – have been presented in the paper.

Opis:: The paper presents a novel heuristic procedure (further called the AH Method) to investigate function shape in the direct vicinity of the found optimum solution. The survey is conducted using only the space sampling collected during the optimization process with an evolutionary algorithm. For this purpose the finite model of point-set is considered. The statistical analysis of the sampling quality based upon the coverage of the points in question over the entire attraction region is exploited. The tolerance boundaries of the parameters are determined for the user-specified increase of the objective function value above the found minimum. The presented test-case data prove that the proposed approach is comparable to other optimum neighborhood examination algorithms. Also, the AH Method requires noticeably shorter computational time than its counterparts. This is achieved by a repeated, second use of points from optimization without additional objective function calls, as well as significant repository size reduction during preprocessing.

Opis:: For plant genetic improvement, it is paramount to determine genetic components for the selection of desirable traits. Eighteen Amaranthus cruentus and 11 Amaranthus hypochondriacus genotypes were evaluated at two locations in Nigeria differing in temperature/precipitation to determine the influence of environment on genetic gain. Genotype × environment was significant for all analysed morphological parameters and for grain yield, 1000 seed weight and no. of days to 50% flowering in A. cruentus. In A. hypochondriacus genotype × environment was significant for plant height, leaf length and width, leaf area, inflorescence length, 1000 seed weight and grain yield. Higher genotypic coefficient of variability, heritability estimates, and genetic advance was observed for the traits at Abeokuta (more wet) than Ibadan (more dry) conditions. Grain yield had positive association with the traits at the two locations except the number of leaves and inflorescence length. Inflorescence length was positively associated with grain yield at Abeokuta and negatively associated at Ibadan. Path analysis indicated simultaneous improvement of grain yield with petiole length and leaf length at Abeokuta but with petiole length and leaf area at Ibadan. In general, the locations had potential for genetic improvement of traits of amaranth grain; therefore, selection criteria for improving grain yield should be considered with respect to environment.

Opis:: The general problem of an off-line parameter tuning in the Binary Genetic Algorithm (BGA) is introduced. An example of such a tuning: a class of Correlational Tuning Methods (CTMs) is proposed. The main idea of a CTM is that it uses a mapping called measurement function as an assessment of the BGA's effciency. An example of a measurement function is described and two examples of CTMs: a modified "trials and errors" method and a modified genetic meta-algoritlm (metaBGA) are shown. Finally, experimental results with the metaBGA for four kinds of test fitness functions, where the code permutation is the tuned parameter, are presented.

Opis:: Praca jest poświęcona opracowaniu metody wyznaczania parametrów modelu tłumika magneto-reologicznego na podstawie badań eksperymentalnych. Obiektem badań był sterowany tłumik magneto-reologiczny (MR), w którym możliwe było sterowanie siłą tłumienia. Do badań numerycznych zaproponowano matematyczny model tłumika MR oraz przedstawiono przykładowe wyniki badań eksperymentalnych i symulacyjnych. Przyjęto kryterium oceny zgodności do oceny przyjętych parametrów modelu na podstawie wyników z badań eksperymentalnych i symulacyjnych. Do estymacji parametrów modelu tłumika MR użyto metody optymalizacyjne, gdzie najlepszą zgodność uzyskano przy metodzie algorytmów genetycznych.
A control algorithm for a damping system equipped with the magneto-rheological damper (MR) is presented in this paper. The magneto-rheological damper (MR) enabling the control of a damping force in time was used as a test object. The paper presents the MR damper mathematical model and some examples of experimental and simulation results. The experimental studies were carried out with use of a hydraulic pulsator and a mechanical system equipped with the examined MR damper. There is described the method for selecting model parameters of the MR damper. To improve simulation and experimental results there was implemented the minimization criterion. The paper discusses several methods of optimized selection of the MR damper parameters. The best results were obtained using the methods based on genetic algorithms. Numerical investigations were performed in Matlab / Simulink with Optimtool Matlab library. Knowledge of the properties of a damper - energy dissipater - and its dissipation characteristics creates the possibility of finding its new applications to vibration control in suspension and transmission system of building structures, machines and machinery.

Opis:: An approach is proposed in the present paper to parameter extraction of geometry dependent RF planar spiral inductor model. A direct extraction procedure is developed and realized in the Cadence PSpice and Cadence Probe environment based on the measured two-port S-parameters. To minimize the error for the full range of operation a Genetic Algorithm (GA) optimization procedure is applied in MATLAB environment. The approach is useful in RF model design, as the S-parameters can be easily measured for a given microelectronic technology. The proposed model extraction approach is characterized by a very good accuracy.
