Opis:
The intracellular survival of Campylobacter has been described within epithelial cells as well as in macrophages in vitro. The goal of this study was to estimate the viability of the genetically diverse C. jejuni and C. coli strains in the macrophage J774 cell line. Strains selected for analysis differed with regard to the occurrence of genes encoding specific virulence factors. The present work indicates that was no correlation between the source of isolates and relative intracellular survival.

Opis:
A monopulse searching and tracking radar antenna array with a large number of radiating elements requires a simple and efficient design of the feeding network. In this paper, an effective and versatile method for jointly optimizing the sum and difference patterns using the genetic algorithm is proposed. Moreover, the array feeding network is simplified by attaching a single common weight to each of its elements. The optimal sum pattern with the desired constraints is first generated by independently optimizing amplitude weights of the array elements. The suboptimal difference pattern is then obtained by introducing a phase displacement π to half of the array elements under the condition of sharing some sided elements weights of the sum mode. The sharing percentage is controlled by the designer, such that the best performance can be met. The remaining uncommon weights of the difference mode represent the number of degrees of freedom which create a compromise difference pattern. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in generating the optimal sum and suboptimal difference patterns characterized by independently, partially, and even fully common weight vectors.

Opis:
The problem of optimal design of symmetrical double-lap adhesive joint is considered. It is assumed that the main plate has constant thickness, while the thickness of the doublers can vary along the joint length. The optimization problem consists in finding optimal length of the joint and an optimal cross-section of the doublers, which provide minimum structural mass at given strength constraints. The classical Goland-Reissner model was used to describe the joint stress state. A corresponding system of differential equations with variable coefficients was solved using the finite difference method. Genetic optimization algorithm was used for numerical solution of the optimization problem. In this case, Fourier series were used to describe doubler thickness variation along the joint length. This solution ensures smoothness of the desired function. Two model problems were solved. It is shown that the length and optimal shape of the doubler depend on the design load.
