Human work is commonly considered to be a painful consequence of the first couple disobedience in the garden of Eden. In our short essay we are trying analyze the issue of human work as it is described in the creation narratives in Gen. 1-2. The starting point for this analysis is God’s work of creation. It designates the point of reference for every human activity. In various pictures these introductory chapters of Genesis express the idea that human being is created and called to cooperate with God-Creator in God’s work of creation. Human efforts to dominate and to subdue the earth should aim at unceasing actualization of God’s plan of salvation for the world.

In Old English dual personal pronouns constituted a small but significant pocket of its inflectional morphology. Their disappearance in Middle English is usually taken as evidence for their marginal and tenuous status already in the preceding centuries. They are seen as optional, poetic, and unpredictable. It is the argument of this paper on the basis of the evidence of the Old English Genesis that these claims warrant a careful revision as – at least in this one poem – there is nothing random or irregular about their use.

Central Park jest jednym z bardziej znanych oraz na pewno najczęściej odwiedzanym miejskim parkiem świata. Prostokąt o bokach 4000 × 800 metrów zajmuje powierzchnię 3,41 km2. Granicami Parku są ulice o nazwach: Central Park North, Central Park West, Central Park South i Fifth Avenue. Liczący obecnie ponad 150 lat zabytek Nowego Jorku jest jednym z pierwszych publicznych parków świata. Naturalną bazą dla powstania Parku jest interesująca konfiguracja terenu charakterystyczna dla całej wyspy Manhattan. Granitowa skała o niezwykłej twardości - tak można krótko scharakteryzować teren, na którym powstał Central Park. Central Park wygląda niezwykle naturalnie i trudno wprost uwierzyć, że został on w całości zaprojektowany przez człowieka, a właściwie zespół projektantów - wizjonerów, twórców amerykańskiej szkoły architektury krajobrazu, wśród których najbardziej znanym był Frederick Law Olmsted. Usytuowany pomiędzy 59 i 110 ulicą nowojorski Central Park jest niewątpliwie najbardziej znanym obiektem projektowanym przez Olmsteda. Posiada on wiele elementów charakterystycznych dla obiektów przez niego projektowanych - szerokie otwarte przestrzenie dla publiczności, malownicze widoki i wijące się ścieżki spacerowe. Zgodnie z projektem Olmsteda nawieziono 500 000 stóp sześciennych humusu zebranego z pól New Jersey. Ziemia została przekopywana ręcznie i przy użyciu nowoczesnych maszyn. Zasadzono 4 miliony drzew, krzewów i roślin reprezentujących 1400 gatunków botanicznych. Został zaprojektowany wewnętrzny niezależny system komunikacji - osobno dla pieszych, powozów oraz koni. Liczne mostki zapobiegały kolizjom. Powstawały pierwsze budowle - The Dairy (Mleczarnia) oraz tak zwane "Serce Parku" - dwupoziomowy plac z fontanną zwany Bethesda Terrace i Promenada, czyli The Mall.Central Park jest miejscem prawdziwie demokratycznym. Niezależnie od wysokich cen mieszkań położonych najbliżej Central Parku, w Parku wszyscy mają równe prawa. Przybysze z innych dzielnic biorą udział w imprezach organizowanych przez Park na równi z mieszkańcami z sąsiadujących z Parkiem domów. Podobnie jak sto lat temu, tak i dziś dla nowojorczyków Central Park jest ich prywatnym podwórkiem, szczególnie ulubionym miejscem spotkań mieszkańców miasta. Matki przyprowadzają tutaj dzieci na liczne place zabaw. Starsi i młodzież jeżdżą na rowerach, wrotkach, konno. W niedzielę można spotkać turystów z całego świata (szczególnie licznie w pobliżu Metropolitan Museum), a także przybyszów z innych miast Ameryki czy dzielnic Nowego Jorku.
Central Park is one of the best known, and certainly the most often visited, city parks in the world. A rectangle measuring 4,000 × 800 metres covers the area of 3.41 km2. The streets: Central Park North, Central Park West, Central Park South and the Fifth Avenue indicate the Park boundaries. This over 150-year-old historic landmark of New York was one of the first public parks in the world. The interesting lie of the land, characteristic for the whole island of Manhattan, provided a natural base for creating the Park. Granite rock of unusual hardness - this could in brief characterise the area in which Central Park was created. Central Park looks very natural and it seems almost unbelievable that it was entirely designed by a man, or actually by a team of designers - visionaries, founders of the American School of landscape architecture, among whom the most famous was Frederick Law Olmsted. Located between the 59th and the 110th Streets, the Central Park in New York is undoubtedly the best known object designed by Olmsted. It possesses numerous features so characteristic for objects he designed - wide open spaces for the public, picturesque views and winding paths. According to Olmsted's project, 500,000 cubic feet of humus collected from New Jersey fields was brought to the Park. The soil was dug over by hand and with the use of modern machinery. 4 million trees, shrubs and plants representing 1400 botanical species were planted. An independent internal traffic network was designed - separately for pedestrians, carriages and horses. Numerous bridges helped to avoid collisions. The first buildings were erected - The Dairy and the so called "Heart of the Park"- a split-level square with a fountain called Bethesda Terrace, and the Promenade or The Mall.Central Park is a really democratic place. Regardless of the exorbitant prices of apartments located in the vicinity of Central Park, everybody is equal in the Park. Guests arriving from other residential districts participate in the events organised by the Park as well as the inhabitants of the apartment houses adjoining the Park. Just like one hundred years ago, today the Central Park seems a private backyard for all New Yorkers, a favourite meeting place of the city dwellers. Mothers bring their children to the numerous playgrounds here; adults and the young cycle, roller-skate or ride horses. On Sundays tourists from all over the world can be encountered here (in particularly large numbers in the vicinity of the Metropolitan Museum) as well as arrivals from other towns and cities in America, or other residential quarters of New York.

W artykule została przedstawiona geneza procesu kształtowania wielopartyjności w Rosji w odniesieniu do zmian na poziomie instucjonalno-decydecko-prawnym, które zostały przeprowadzone w ostatnich latach funkcjonowania ZSRR w ramach polityki pierestrojki Michaiła Gorbaczowa. Po pierwsze omówione zostały zainicjowane przez ówczesną władzę postępowania o charakterze instytucjonalno-normatywnym, a mianowicie reorganizacja organów władzy państwowej, przede wszystkim chodzi o przeprowadzenie wyborów deputowanych na Zjazd Deputowanych Ludowych ZSRR. Miał to być organ pochodzący z rzeczywistego konkurencyjnego wyboru, który postanowiono wskrzesić w myśl odwołania się do źródeł komunizmu – przewrócenia modelu władzy bazującego na funkcjonowaniu rad z jej nadbudową zjazdem, który stanowił główne ciało decyzyjne w państwie. Po drugie przeanalizowano przemiany na poziomie decydenckim, dotyczącym sfery alternacji elit w procesie zmian transformacyjnych. Po trzecie ukazano zmiany prawne, które w sposób faktyczny dokonały transformacji podstawy systemu radzieckiego oraz zainicjowały powstanie nowego ładu. Całość tych postępowań, zainicjowanych wówczas przez władzę, miała – w myśl logiki zakładanej przez rządzących – w istocie wzmocnić pozycję partii komunistycznej i jej aparatu jako siłę wspierającą pierestrojkę. W rzeczywistości działania te stworzyły podwalinę do przyszłych zmian systemowych, społecznych i światopoglądowych oraz utorowały drogę do wielopartyjności w już innych (nowych) uwarunkowaniach polityczno-prawnych i państwowych (Federacja Rosyjska).
The article presents the genesis of the process of formation of multi-partyism in Russia in relation to the changes at the institutional-decisional-legal level that were carried out in the last years of the USSR under Mikhail Gorbachev's perestroika policy. Firstly, proceedings of an institutional-normative nature initiated by the then authorities are discussed, namely the reorganisation of the organs of state power: first and foremost, the holding of elections of deputies to the Congress of People's Deputies of the USSR. This was to be a genuinely competitively elected body, which it was decided to resurrect in line with an appeal to the origins of communism - an overturning of the model of power based on the functioning of councils with its superstructure the Congress, which constituted the main decision-making body in the state. Secondly, the transformations at the decision-making level, concerning the sphere of elite alternation in the process of transformational change, were analysed. Thirdly, the legal changes that effectively changed the basis of the Soviet system and initiated the emergence of a new order are shown. The totality of these proceedings initiated by the authorities at the time were, according to the logic assumed by those in power, actually intended to strengthen the position of the Communist Party and its apparatus as a force supporting perestroika. In reality, these actions laid the groundwork for future systemic, social and worldview changes and paved the way for multipartyism in an already different (new) political, legal and state environment (Russian Federation).

The Christian “Lifetree” seems to be often omitted today in its fundamental role as the one, which brings us Christ’s redemption. As for Christians the “Lifetree” is the cross, Jesus Christ itself, His torment and resurrection, redemption of human from the original sin, and thereby giving him the eternal life. This way-in purely general terms- could be answered the question: what signifies the term “Lifetree” for Christians. However in order to explain it rightly, we need to relay on the Holy Scripture and look at its beginning, at Genesis, which explained us the world formerly an today - unfortunately - tends to be seen as fairy tale, which should moralize the human and teach him to obey God. No wonder, that the human has lost his ability to understand the reality and like by snake deceived Eve in paradise, is confused. Jesus said: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (J 14,6). However today-in the modern world involved in sin-this Truth is being questioned increasingly in its essential value.

The Polish Geological Institute (PIG),established in 1919 as the geological survey, during the last 100 years carried out geological prospection of Poland, worked out the actual knowledge of geology and hydrogeology of the country, as well as discovered most of mineral deposits, essential to the national economy. This synthetic review presents the PIG achievements in prospecting and documenting of most deposits of rock and potash salts as well as in successful creation and application of new methodology and technics (e.g. chemostratigraphy, resource aspects of facies analysis, 3D images of salt deposits and structures, interferometry) to predict salt occurrences with optimal resource parameters, explain the tectonic and stratigraphic problems and to propose tools favoring the mining safety. The data regarding regional geology, collected during a century, enabled estimation of accessible prospective resources of both salt types and selection of optimal salt occurrences forfuture management as storages for hydrocarbons, gas (air, hydrogen) and safe waste disposals.

Opis:
The Šventoji is a river of the Baltic Upland. The catchment of the Šventoji is teardrop-shaped up to 50–60 km wide, and 160 km long. Most of the catchment is situated in the Aukštaičiai Upland and the Western Aukštaičiai Plateau. The surface of the catchment was formed by Quaternary ice sheets that deposited a moraine layer 100–200 m, the thick topographic relief dating to the late Nemunas (Weichselian) Glaciation phases. The eastern part of catchment was formed in the East Lithuanian Phase, the middle part in the South Lithuanian Phase and the western part in the Middle Lithuanian Phase. The catchment surface is composed of three different genetic relief types: the ice-marginal deposits of the East Lithuanian Phase, represented by small hills; the middle part of the Šventoji catchment, transected by a few ice-marginal ridges of the South Lithuanian Phase which form small hills; and the western part of the catchment is transected by a few asymmetric ridges of the Middle Lithuanian Phase. The eastern part dominantly comprises ice-marginal deposits with glaciolacustrine and glaciofluvial intercalation; the middle part comprises variable glaciolacustrine, basal moraine and ice-marginal deposits; the western part by basal moraine and ice-marginal deposits.

Artykuł jest prezentacją kilku wątków eklezjologicznych pochodzących z piętnastowiecznego dzieła Suma o Kościele Juana Torquemady, które niedawno zostało przetłumaczone na język polski (2019). Wybrane tematy, a są nimi określenie, geneza i obrazy Kościoła, autor najpierw przedstawia zgodnie z intencją dominikanina, a następnie odnosi je do teologii fundamentalnej. Myśli o Kościele Juana Torquemady, „ojca katolickiej eklezjologii”, stanowią cenny wkład do współczesnej fundamentalistyki.
The article is a presentation of several ecclesiological threads from the 15th century work Summa ecclesiastica by Juan Torquemada, which has recently been translated into Polish (2019). The author first presents selected topics such as definition, genesis and images of the Church in accordance with the intention of the Dominican priest, and then relates them to fundamental theology. The thoughts about the Church of Juan Torquemada, “father of Catholic ecclesiology”, are a valuable contribution to contemporary fundamentalistic knowledge.

This article deals with the formation process of the traditions concerning the three patriarchs from the book of Genesis. It can already be stated that the traditions of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were initially formed independently of one other. The chronological priority should be assigned to the tradition of Jacob. It was originally combined with the tradition of Isaac (in Amos), and before the exile it constituted the earliest point of reference for the search of roots and identity. It was only towards the end of the exile that the particular time and situation resulted in the local, Judaean traditions of Abraham starting to play a greater role also in the theological aspect. Abraham became then not only a model of faith, and an example of behaviour for the exiles and the repatriates, but also the first link in the chain of the three patriarchs. Some motifs in the story of Abraham may have been at that time borrowed from the traditions of Isaac (cf. Gen 26).

The “Jacob’s ladder” episode from the book of Genesis inspired numerous symbolic interpretations in ancient Christianity. Most often we encounter moral symbolism, which basically proceeds in two directions. Following Tertullian, “descending angels” symbolize sinners, and “ascending” – righteous people. According to Augustine, “descending” mean those who take care of the needs of others, while “ascending” are those who direct their hearts to God. For Jerome, ascending and descending angels symbolize not so much people as the mercy of God who descends to the sinner, whereas for Ambrose and Zeno of Verona the ladder represents the Old and New Testament, and its rungs – the Christian virtues. An important literary motif in the story of the “Jacob’s ladder” is the stone under the Patriarch’s head, which in the Christian tradition assumes a Christological meaning.

A small piece of the Morasko meteorite, weighing 970 g, yields traces of its journey through the Earth’s atmosphere and of its impact into a mineral substrate, such as reflected in the meteorite’s crust. This is seen in the crust structure in the form of sintered as well as fusion and semi-fusion layers for which ablative niches are optimum sites. Subsequent weathering processes have resulted in significant mineralogical changes in the crusts. The meteorite crusts originated during polygenetic processes.

„Idźcie i głoście” – to wezwanie, jakie usłyszeli od Jezusa Apostołowie (zob. Mt 10,7; Mk 16,15). Wezwanie to kryje w sobie nie tylko element posłania, misji, ale również tajemnicę niezwykłego powołania do pójścia za Jezusem oraz tworzenia głębokiej z Nim relacji. W niniejszym artykule autor podejmuje próbę odczytania podobnych elementów w biblijnej i pozabiblijnej tradycji dotyczącej Abrahama. Okazuje się, że tradycja ta w wielu miejscach wykazuje cechy podobieństwa do ewangelicznych opowiadań o życiu i działalności grona Dwunastu. Daje w ten sposób podstawę, by dostrzec w Abrahamie postać Apostoła – Apostoła z Księgi Rodzaju.
„And preach as you go” – this is the call which the apostles heard from Jesus (see Mt 10:7; Mc 16:15). This call comprises not only the elements of mission, but also a mystery of an unusual vocation to follow Jesus and to build a profound relation with Him. In this article the author makes attempt to find similar elements in biblical and extrabiblical tradition concerning Abraham. It turns out that this tradition shows certain similarities to the Gospel narratives concerning life and activity of twelve disciples of Jesus. In this way it constitutes basis to discover in the person of Abraham an apostle – the Apostle of the Book of Genesis.

In academic literature there is a whole range of hypotheses relating to the genesis of the symbolic behavior, which are usually also associated with the beginnings of the development of spirituality. In the nineteenth century, the considerations conducted in this area were often influenced by negative stereotypes (relating, among others, to hunter-gatherers), which were later deconstructed. Although the discussion on this subject has been ongoing since the nineteenth century, even in the light of research and achievements of the modern science, the problem of the origins of symbolic behavior has still not been unequivocally resolved. However, it is assumed that they should be attributed primarily to the changes that were initiated in our ancestors from the Homo Sapiens family. In recent years, however, some ethologists and primatologists believe that the genesis of symbolic behavior should be sought in the animal world. I devote my article to this diversified subject matter.

Opis:
The similarities between Noah’s ark and the saving boat in Mesopotamian flood accounts are widely known. Likewise known are the links between Noah’s ark and the chest of Moses (Exod 2:3). However, the connections between the “chest” of Noah and the “chest” of the testimony have not hitherto drawn adequate scholarly attention. The article explores these connections on both the linguistic and the conceptual level. Moreover, it investigates their function in hypertextual links of the Genesis flood account to earlier Israelite literary works, especially the book of Deuteronomy and the book of Joshua.
Podobieństwa pomiędzy arką Noego a ratującą łodzią w mezopotamskich opowiadaniach o potopie są szeroko znane. Podobnie znane są powiązania między arką Noego a szkatułą Mojżesza (Wj 2,3). Jednakże powiązania między „skrzynią” Noego a „skrzynią” Świadectwa nie przyciągnęły dotąd adekwatnej uwagi badaczy. Artykuł analizuje te powiązania na poziomach lingwistycznym i konceptualnym. Stara się ponadto prześledzić ich funkcję w hipertekstualnych powiązaniach opowiadania o potopie z Księgi Rodzaju z wcześniejszymi izraelskimi dziełami literackimi, szczególnie z Księgą Powtórzonego Prawa i Księgą Jozuego.
