The beginning of the twenty-first century saw a breakthrough in haematology, oncology and general medicine driven by the introduction of imatinib (Glivec) to the treatment of chronic myeloid leukaemia. For the first time, a neoplastic disease was successfully treated by a therapy targeting the genetic cause of the disease. At present, targeted therapy based on imatinib is the first one to enter a new stage which is the launch of generic drugs. Poland is the first country in the European Union which, from the beginning of July 2014, introduced generic imatinib. Hence, there is no reliable data on its use except for results from bioequivalence tests. The only data available comes from developing countries where other preparations are used, without reliable bioequivalence studies. However, all generic drugs of imatinib registered in Poland have successfully passed such tests. Undoubtedly, it is necessary to appropriately monitor patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia receiving generic drugs in order to ensure their safety and provide information to other countries where therapy based on generic drugs will be introduced in the following years.

This article analyses the novel “La vieille dame du riad” (2011) by Fouad Laroui, a Moroccan-Dutch writer of French expression. We examine the strategies (generic and intertextual) used by the novelist to ridicule the Orientalist prejudices which persist in the current time. Generic hybridity (the presence of some elements of the detective story, fantasy novel and oriental tale) is used to develop the satirical dimension of the novel.

While Hungarian 3SG individual reference null pronominals are in free variation with their lexical counterparts, 3SG generic reference null pronominals do not show such variation. This follows from the fact that Hungarian 3SG generic null pronominals behave like bound variables, i.e. they always require a 3SG generic lexical antecedent in an adjacent clause. Both the 3SG generic lexical antecedent and the 3SG generic null pronominal must be in the scope of the GN operator, which is seated in SpeechActParticipantPhrase (SAPP), the leftmost functional projection of the left periphery in the sentence (see Alexiadou & D’Alessandro, 2003; Bianchi, 2006). GN binds all occurrences of the generic variable in accessible worlds (see Moltmann 2006 for English one/oneself). These properties distinguish Hungarian from the four major types of Null Subject Languages identified by Roberts & Holmberg (2010).

This paper uses a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to reduce total tardiness in an identical parallel machine scheduling problem. The proposed GA is a crossover-free (vegetative reproduction) GA but used for four types of mutations (Two Genes Exchange mutation, Number of Jobs mutation, Flip Ends mutation, and Flip Middle mutation) to make the required balance between the exploration and exploitation functions of the crossover and mutation operators. The results showed that use of these strategies positively affects the accuracy and robustness of the proposed GA in minimizing the total tardiness. The results of the proposed GA are compared to the mathematical model in terms of the time required to tackle the proposed problem. The findings illustrate the ability of the propounded GA to acquire the results in a short time compared to the mathematical model. On the other hand, increasing the number of machines degraded the performance of the proposed GA.

The paper examines genre strategies in a number of children’s books by the well-known Swedish author, Astrid Lindgren. Drawing on the reception theories of Hans Robert Jauss, Aidan Chambers and Reinbert Tabbert, the paper demonstrates that the stormy reception of Pippi Longstocking (1945), prompted by a review by Professor John Landquist, had principally genre-related grounds. The book made readers feel a sense of provocation because it challenged their archetextual horizon of expectations by evoking certain traditional genres and simultaneously twisting them in almost anarchic ways. In later books Astrid Lindgren makes a more elaborate use of classic genre structures. She generally chooses one well-known archetext as the generic dominant and allows it to interact with a set of other genres, thus calling forth the main aesthetic effect of the book from the archetextual dialogue between the dominant and the accompanying genres. The paper specifically investigates this polyphonic method in three of Lindgren’s most popular books. In All about the Bullerby children (1947–52) the generic dominant is idyll and the subordinated archetexts satire, parody, burlesque, farce, fairy tale and ballad. Mio, my son (1954) can be considered as an artistic fairy tale (Kunstmärchen), this dominant genre correlating with some other interwoven archetexts: apocryphal gospel, myth, legend, heroic tale and idyll. Finally, the generic dominant of Ronia, the robber’s daughter (1981) – a novel about the adventures of a band of robbers (Räuberroman) – finds its archetextual counterparts in folktale, popular legend, myth, burlesque, fantasy and Bildungsroman, among others.

This paper describes an emerging learning design for a popular genre of learner-generated video projects: Ideas Videos or iVideos. These advocacy-style videos are short, two-minute, digital videos designed “to evoke powerful experiences about educative ideas” (Wong, Mishra, Koehler & Siebenthal, 2007, p1). We draw on a recent study in teacher education to present a structured description of a pedagogical approach to iVideo filmmaking. A visual learning design representation (Agostinho, Harper, Oliver, Hedberg & Wills, 2008) and a LAMS-based generic learning design template (Cameron, 2008) form part of this description.

For the international exchange of goods, an exact estimated time of arrival (ETA), especially in case of delays, is of great importance. Using global data of the automatic identification system (AIS) a grid node is generated. The sum of such nodes and their connections form a routing graph. As an example, with one node of in total more than 100,000 nodes it is described how this point gets the maximum vessel length and draft assigned.

The aim of this study is to analyze the double-function of generic signals in double-voiced discourse of parody which involves by its nature the parodied and the parodying voices simultaneously. The paper claims that generic signals, which are supposed to be working mostly at an unconscious level to create a generic context for the reader in interpreting a text, become double-voiced by the parodist’s manipulation and work at a conscious level. It is common that the parody writer barrows and appropriates generic signals of the genre he parodies to indicate the parodied genre and also his departure from this genre. Parodic intentions become palpable immediately with the „parodic stylization” — to use Bakhtin’s term — of the generic signals, which brings about the Bakhtinian refraction of the authorial voice in parody. Since the parody writer intentionally appropriates the speech of the prodied genre, authorial refractions become clearer in parodic discourse. Through studying such refractions with a particular emphasis on genre parodies and specific examples from Cervantes’ Don Quijote, the present study argues that generic signals in parodic discourse assume the double-function of signaling the parodied genre and the parodying voice simultaneously. In order to show how generic signals assume a highly communicative function in parody, this study focuses on texts where the author parodies not a single writer and a single work, but a whole genre with its conventions. As a genre parody which aims for the governing discourse behind the genre it imitates, Cervantes’ Don Quijote produce significant examples that the double-function of generic signals can be seen explicitly through the authorial refractions in the text.

The purpose of this exploratory analysis was to capture students’ generic tendencies in the organization of original research term papers written by graduate within the same linguistic, cultural, and disciplinary territory. A model proposed by Sheldon (2011) was benchmarked against a corpus of 60 English research term paper introductions to identify the saliency of move schemes along with step and sub-step realizations. At step-level analysis, the proportion of the various steps within Move 2 (indicating a gap, adding to what is known, and presenting positive justification) exhibited a pervasive lack of rhetorical tendency that contradicted the previous genre-based findings. Such an exploration, offers implications for English for research publication purposes instruction and academic literacies based on academic conventions and norms.

Sytuując się na pograniczu literaturoznawstwa i językoznawstwa, niniejszy artykuł dotyczy dwóch zjawisk: dezindywidualizacji wypowiedzi czy też inaczej – zatarcia znaczników subiektywności w dyskursie (effacement énonciatif) oraz hybrydowości rodzajowej / gatunkowej (effets de généricité). Jako materiał egzemplifikacyjny posłużyła nam mało znana sztuka teatralna La Poche Parmentier Georges’a Pereca, znanego z nonszalanckiego stosunku do konwencji rodzajowych, której tematem jest obieranie ziemniaków. Zanik subiektywnego i zaangażowanego w swą mowę wypowiadacza (postaci-lokutora) osiągnięty zostaje poprzez: 1. zwielokrotnienie źródeł wypowiedzi i gatunków mowy (postaci posługują się przepisami kuchennymi, hasłami reklamowymi, danymi z roczników statystycznych, encyklopedii, itp.); 2. powtarzanie pewnych segmentów wypowiedzi i cykliczność wydarzeń; 3. systematyczne odwołania intertekstowe, w których postaci odgrywają role, zamiast mówić „za siebie” (collage scen ze sztuk Ioneski, Labiche’a, Szekspira...). Z genologicznego punktu widzenia La Poche Parmentier jest ciekawym przykładem sztuki teatralnej złożonej z szeregu mikro- i makronarracji, które rozbijają w pewien sposób jej konfigurację rodzajową (interferencje trybu mimetycznego i diegetycznego).

The article deals with constructing the discovery of the number of combinations. It stems from the approach of genetic constructivism, which works with the generic model theory, and its research goal was to develop the stages of isolated models, particularly using the phenomenon of isomorphism. Children aged 11–13 participated in the experiment during their mathematics club, in which they worked in groups at first and together at the blackboard afterwards. The results come from analyzing the experiment protocol and a video recording of part of the experiment. In this study, the authors focus primarily on a detailed analysis of individual sub-phases of isolated models under the generic model theory. The experiment highlights the importance of isomorphism as a generalization tool. The authors have identified the obstacles on the way to advanced sub-phases of isolated models. Another contribution is the division of the fourth sub-phase into two separate sub-phases, which has been achieved using the method of atomic analysis.

We can state that they recovered the woman literary character, stressed their family and professional micro world as well as the inner world with not solved problems.
