    This article analyzes the common Slavic linguistic atlas maps (OLA). Assessing the preliminary results of the OLA project, the author focused her attention on the new linguistic geography data given in the Atlas, and the evolution of some units and Proto-Slavic dialect differentiation of Slavia.

    The article analyzes Nechui-Levytskyi’s writings vocabulary in the D ictionary o f the Ukrainian language under Grinchenko’s editorship. The Dictionary’ o f the Ukrainian language focuses on colloquial speech which shows and highlights everyday people activities. Also we can find the colloquial speech in Nechui-Levytskyi’s literatuře works.

    Opis:
    Adam Heinz (1914–1984) was an academic whose field of study encompassed – to use the term employed by Walter Porzig (1950) – das Wunder der Sprache (the wonder that is language). His most extensive work entitled Dzieje językoznawstwa w zarysie (An outline of the history of linguistics) has, despite its 36 years, still maintained its popularity amongst linguists. Adam Heinz as one of the most eminent Polish structuralist was to remain critical in relation to both formal and functional structuralism. In subscribing to linguistic autonomy he would quote Wittgenstein’s words Die Grenzen meiner Sprache bedeuten die Grenzen meiner Welt (The limits of my language means the limits of my world.). His academic output is a long way from the tiresome monotony of immanent structuralism; for he grasped as if en passent the difference between lies (deceit) and Newspeak. Professor Adam Heinz, in referencing painting, unofficially divided linguists into miniaturists, landscapists and abstractionists. He himself was an extraordinary miniaturist and landscapist.

    Professor Adam Heinz worked at Pedagogical University of Cracow between 1959 and 1970. He taught different classes: Latin and Greek, as well as Old Church Slavonic language. He also conducted a master’s thesis seminar and lectures on general linguistics.His students will remember him as an extraordinarily conscientious lecturer and an erudite scholar having versatile knowledge, but also as a demanding examiner.

    Opis:
    This article deals with the reception of Saussure's thought in Poland. Its primary goal is to do justice to the researchers who have contributed to the promotion of Saussure’s ideas in Polish linguistics in the sixties and seventies (of the last century), as well as to draw attention to misunderstandings that have arisen around the Course in General Linguistics among Polish linguists. The paper consists of two main parts. The first part presents the supporters of the theory, namely Jerzy Kuryłowicz, Leon Zawadowski, Adam Heinz and Andrzej Bogusławski, and the second part its most ardent opponents, that is to say Witold Doroszewski and Witold Mańczak. The author’s attempt is to refute their main objections.

    Opis:
    The aim of this paper is to discuss the major differences and similarities between the Corpus of Polish Sign Language (KPJM), which has been developed for a decade by the team of the Section for Sign Linguistics, Faculty of Polish Studies, University of Warsaw, and corpora of phonic languages (and in particular the National Corpus of Polish (NKJP)). The KPJM is a general corpus with an ambition to represent the whole language, used by the Polish Deaf. Unlike the corpora of phonic languages, which are collections of existing texts, the material of the KPJM was generated purposefully by recording and annotating an extensive set of videos. The paper shows that the sign language corpus should be viewed as analogous to spoken language corpora rather than to written language corpora. The KPJM can be perceived as a model of Polish Sign Language.

    The aim or the article is to show the selected tendencies in the development of the linguistic map of the world, undergoing constant change, the result of which is some languages spreading further, while others are not being used anymore (are dying out). In a broader perspective, two opposing processes can be seen in this change – spreading and diminishing (expansion and recession) of the entire language families.
