Opis:
1-Octanol/kerosene mixtures and water contacted with organic solvents were used as model solutions for r-SANEX and i-SANEX extractions systems. Investigations aimed on a quantitative evaluation of gaseous products generated in these systems under exposure to an electron beam irradiation. Influence of O2, HNO3 and the presence of model ligands and complexes on the radiation chemical yields was studied. Relatively high G(H2) values (up to 420 nmol∙J-1) for the organic phase compromise the safety issues of the extraction process and should be considered on the stage of extraction apparatus design. Based on the obtained results gaseous hydrocarbons seem to have negligible impact on safety issue. The upper limit of G(H2) values in water contacted with organic phase was established to be 85 nmol∙J-1. This value is relatively low, however, the literature data indicate that G(H2) values measured in aqueous solutions are over twice higher for α-particles irradiation than for electron beam or γ-irradiation. Thus, further investigations of these systems are necessary.

Opis:
Fermentacja ciemna umożliwia otrzymywanie bio-wodoru z substratów pochodzenia biologicznego, np. z biomasy ligno-celulozowej. Kontrola i właściwe sterowanie przebiegiem procesu fermentacji ciemnej wymaga bieżącego monitoringu składu powstającej fazy gazowej. W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono metodykę analizy składu fazy gazowej z wykorzystaniem techniki GC-TCD-FID. Zaproponowana metodyka umożliwia oznaczenie następujących gazów w analizowanej mieszaninie: H2, O2, CH4 i CO2. W pracy zwięźle omówiono metodę fermentacyjnego otrzymywania biopaliw gazowych z surowców ligno-celulozowych. Przedstawiono przykładowe wyniki analizy chromatograficznej próbek gazowych, pobieranych w trakcie fermentacji ciemnej z hydrolizatu ze zmielonej i wysuszonej wierzby energetycznej po wcześniejszej obróbce alkalicznej i hydrolizie enzymatycznej.
Dark fermentation allows the production of biohydrogen from substrates of biological origin, e.g. from lignocellulosic biomass. The proper control of the course of the dark fermentation process requires the need of monitoring of the composition of the generated gas phase. This paper presents the methodology of gas phase composition analysis using the GC-TCD-FID technique. The proposed methodology makes it possible to determine the following gases in the analyzed mixture: H2, O2, CH4 and CO2. The work discusses briefly the method of fermentative production of gaseous biofuels from lignocellulosic raw materials. Exemplary results of the GC-FID-TCD analysis carried out on gas samples collected during dark fermentation from milled and dried energetic willow, previously alkaline pretreated and enzymatically hydrolysed, are presented.

Opis:
Increasing the nitrogen/carbon ratios in the molecular frameworks of C,H,N,O explosives has attracted considerable attention because it tends to result in more positive heats of formation and often greater densities. In conjunction with this, there has been a growing interest in N-oxide linkages, N+ → O−, as another source of oxygen in these compounds, in addition to or even possibly replacing NO2 groups. In this study, for a series of polyazines and polyazoles, we have compared the effects of introducing a single N-oxide linkage or NO2 group upon key properties that affect detonation velocity and detonation pressure. We found that: (1) The heats of formation per gram of compound, which is what is relevant for this purpose, are almost always higher for the N-oxides. (2) The nitro derivatives have greater densities and detonation heat releases. In relation to the latter, it must be kept in mind that increasing detonation heat release tends to be accompanied by increasing sensitivity. (3) The N-oxides produce more moles of gaseous detonation products per gram of compound.

Opis:
Acid-washed asbestos, carbon fibre, and MgO with carbon fibre were used as the filter media in order to compare their filtering qualities in the estimation of the percentage of gaseous products (PGP) arising from the combustion of singlebase propellants, double-base propellants, and boron-based fuel-rich propellants. The comparison was based on an analysis of the experimentally registered influence of the propellant formulation, the propellant load, the maximum chamber pressure and the thickness of the MgO filter layer on the PGP from the fuel-rich propellant, and in particular on the PGP produced by combustion of boron-based fuel-rich propellant. The results showed that the experimental values of the PGP were closer to the theoretically predicted values when carbon fibre mixed with MgO powder was used as the filter medium. The PGP of boron-based fuel-rich propellant increased when the AP was in part replaced by HMX, when the AP content was increased and when boron was in part replaced by magnesium-aluminum alloy. In terms of the apparatus used in these experiments, the propellant loading density was found to have little correspondence with the PGP for boron-based fuel-rich propellant. The optimal propellant loading density for the chamber volume of 85 cm3 was found to be 2-2.5 g, in view of the reliability and safety of the experiment. It is emphasised that the thickness of the MgO filter layer is very important for the accuracy and reliability of the experiment, and that the optimum should be determined by experiment.

Opis:
The analysis of chemical composition of turkey feathers reveals over 50% mass content of carbon. Unfortunately, the feathers contain also over 13% by weight of nitrogen and over 2.5% of sulfur. The significant presence of nitrogen and sulfur in turkey feathers indicates potential danger to the environment. The experiments of thermal pyrolysis of turkey feathers were done from a perspective of energy production potential out of gaseous products. The products of thermal pyrolysis were mainly gas and liquid. The calorific value of pyrolysed feathers is comparable with the one of hard carbon. It gets higher for higher temperatures. The calorific value of gaseous products of turkey feathers at 850oC was maximum and it equalled 16.7 MJ/Nm3.
