Notes of Załmen Gradowski, one of the leaders of the Sonderkommando revolt in Auschwitz-Birkenau, is one of the most important documents of the Holocaust produced by his victims during the crime and at its epicenter. Their fragments were published in Poland and Israel. Gradowski was a religious Jew from Grodno, he prayed daily in the camp and wrote down transport information. His family: mother, wife and children, immediately after arriving in Auschwitz, were murdered in gas chambers. The author analyzes the literary value of this extraordinary document, which consists of narrative diary entries and imaginative lyrical inscriptions, rooted in the Jewish tradition of conversation with God. So we read the records of the nature of the report and lament. This unique record – given its place of origin and literary values – a testimony of the crimes committed against and suffering of the victims of the Holocaust once again asks us about the inexpressibility of the Holocaust.

W pracy przedstawiono model fizyczny broni automatycznej działającej na zasadzie odprowadzenia części gazów prochowych z przestrzeni zapociskowej przewodu lufy oraz termodynamiczny model matematyczny zjawisk zachodzących w lufie i komorze gazowej od chwili odsłonięcia otworu gazowego do chwili zakończenia działania ciśnienia gazów prochowych na zespół suwadła. W wyniku numerycznego rozwiązania zaproponowanych równań otrzymuje się m.in. ciśnienie w komorze gazowej oraz charakterystyki ruchu napędzanego zespołu suwadła (z tłokiem i tłoczyskiem) dla przyjętego układu konstrukcyjnego broni. Przedstawiony model matematyczny oraz opracowany na jego podstawie program komputerowy mogą stanowić podstawę projektowania broni automatycznej z odprowadzeniem gazów.
The physical model of the automatic gas operated weapon as well as a mathematical model of phenomena inside the barrel and the gas chamber from the moment of passing gas port by bullet to the moment end propulsion of slide unit are presented in this paper. Numerical solution of the proposed equations for considered weapon structural system gives pressures inside the gas chamber as well as motion parameters of the propelled slide unit (with piston and rod). Presented mathematical model and numerical program make grounds to projecting of automatic gas operated weapon.

Celem badań, których wyniki zamieszczono w niniejszym artykule, było określenie wpływu temperatury ośrodka gazowego na właściwości samozapłonowe estrów metylowych oleju rzepakowego (RME). Właściwości samozapłonowe określono na podstawie okresu opóźnienia samozapłonu i okresu opóźnienia spalania. W badaniach wykorzystano urządzenie badawcze z komorą spalania o stałej objętości. Podczas kolejnych etapów badań, zmianie podlegała jedynie temperatura ścianek komory spalania. Badania pozwoliły m.in. na ilościowe określenie wartości okresu opóźnienia samozapłonu, przy zachowaniu stałych wartości pozostałych parametrów związanych z wtryskiem paliwa.
The aim of the study presented in this article was to determine the effect of ambient gas temperature on the selfignition properties of RME. The selfignition prop-erties were determined based on the ignition delay pe-riod and the combustion delay period. During the study a test analyser with the constant volume combustion chamber was used. During consecutive phases of study, only the temperature of the combustion chamber walls was changed. The study permits, among others, to quantitative determination of the ignition delay period at constant values of other parameters connected with fuel injection.

This investigation is devoted to an analysis of the working process in a dual-fuel low-emission combustion chamber for a floating vessel’s gas turbine. The low-emission gas turbine combustion chamber with partial pre-mixing of fuel and air inside the outer and inner radial-axial swirlers was chosen as the object of research. When modelling processes in a dualflow low-emission gas turbine combustion chamber, a generalized method is used, based on the numerical solution of the system of conservation and transport equations for a multi-component chemically reactive turbulent system, taking into consideration nitrogen oxides formation. The Eddy-Dissipation-Concept model, which incorporates Arrhenius chemical kinetics in a turbulent flame, and the Discrete Phase Model describing the interfacial interaction are used in the investigation. The obtained results confirmed the possibility of organizing efficient combustion of distillate liquid fuel in a low-emission gas turbine combustion chamber operating on the principle of partial preliminary formation of a fuel-air mixture. Comparison of four methods of liquid fuel supply to the channels of radial-axial swirlers (centrifugal, axial, combined, and radial) revealed the advantages of the radial supply method, which are manifested in a decrease in the overall temperature field non-uniformity at the outlet and a decrease in nitrogen oxides emissions. The calculated concentrations of nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide at the flame tube outlet for the radial method of fuel supply are 32 and 9.1 ppm, respectively. The results can be useful for further modification and improvement of the characteristics of dual-fuel gas turbine combustion chambers operating with both gaseous and liquid fuels.

The aim of this article is to present the results of theoretical studies regarding the use of variable geometry hot section of a miniature gas turbine. The variable geometry combustor and variable area nozzle concepts for GTM-120 miniature jet engine are presented in particular. Recent trends of propulsion system size reduction, low-emission combustion and improved fuel efficiency have been considered. A system of variable geometry combustor and variable area nozzle has been proposed as solution. The basic zero-dimensional analytical models for variable geometry combustor and variable area nozzle are developed. Chemkin based model shows significant NOX/CO emissions reduction and combustor outlet enthalpy increases with the use of variable geometry combustor chamber. The analytical model of the variable area nozzle has been proposed. It shows turbine effectiveness increase across its operating range by raising the compressor working line. As a result, noticeable turbine stage efficiency increase has been obtained. Finally, physical implications and future work plans regarding variable geometry hot section of miniature gas turbines are discussed.

The catalysts based on natural zeolite-clinoptilolite of Sokyrnytsia deposit modified with oxides of Mn4+, Fe2+, Fe3+, Cu2+, Cr3+ were synthesized. It was determined that 100% conversion of carbon monoxide was achieved at a temperature of 390°C when using the copper-manganese-oxide catalyst (30% CuO + 70% MnO2). It was shown that although the use of the manganese-oxide catalyst provided 92.8% of CO conversion degree, this catalyst had the most advantages for application compared to the other studied solids. The structural parameters of the manganese-oxide catalyst were determined using XRD, SEM, and nitrogen adsorption. The composition of the main elements of the catalyst samples was determined by micro-X-ray spectral analysis. It was shown that using the catalyst containers in chambers heated by flue gases in the fire channels of a multi-chamber furnace for baking of electrode blanks can be one of the constructive solutions to the problem of flue gas purification from carbon monoxide. The environmental safety of the copper-manganese-oxide catalyst application for the treatment of the flue gases of electrode production is justified by obtaining a catalyst from spent sorbents for purification of the manganese-containing natural water and its non-toxicity in the case of burial or storage in landfills.

This study is dedicated to investigations of the working process in a dual-fuel low-emission combustion chamber for a floating vessel’s gas turbine. As the object of the research, a low-emission gas turbine combustion chamber with partial premixing of fuel and air inside the outer and inner radial-axial swirls was chosen. The method of the research is based on the numerical solution of the system of differential equations which represent the physical process of mass and energy conservation and transformations and species transport for a multi-component chemically reactive turbulent system, considering nitrogen oxides formation and a discrete ordinates model of radiation. The chemistry kinetics is presented by the 6-step mechanism of combustion. Seven fuel supply operating modes, varying from 100% gaseous fuel to 100% liquid fuel, have been analysed. This analysis has revealed the possibility of the application of computational fluid dynamics for problems of dual-fuel combustion chambers for the design of a floating vessel’s gas turbine. Moreover, the study has shown the possibility of working in different transitional gaseous and liquid fuel supply modes, as they satisfy modern ecological requirements. The dependencies of the averaged temperature, NO, and CO concentrations along the length of the low-emission gas turbine combustion chamber for different cases of fuel supply are presented. Depending on the different operating modes, the calculated emission of nitrogen oxides NO and carbon monoxide CO at the outlet cross-section of a flame tube are different, but, they lie in the ranges of 31‒50 and 23‒24 mg/nm3 on the peak of 100% liquid fuel supply mode. At operating modes where a gaseous fuel supply prevails, nitrogen oxide NO and carbon monoxide CO emissions lie in the ranges of 1.2‒4.0 and 0.04‒18 mg/nm3 respectively.

This article is devoted to the investigation of the characteristics of a low-emission gas turbine combustion chamber, which can be used in Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels and operates on a mixture of natural gas and hydrogen. A new approach is proposed for modelling the processes of burning out a mixture of natural gas with hydrogen under preliminary mixing conditions in gaseous fuel with an oxidizer in the channels of radial-axial swirlers of flame tubes. The proposed kinetic hydrocarbon combustion scheme is used in three-dimensional calculations for a cannular combustion chamber of a 25 MW gas turbine engine for two combustion models: the Finite-Rate/Eddy-Dissipation and the Eddy Dissipation Concept. It was found that, for the investigated combustion chamber, the range of stable operations, without the formation of a flashback zone in the channels of radial-axial swirlers, is determined by the hydrogen content in the mixture, which is less than 25-30% (by volume). For the operating modes of the chamber without the formation of a flashback zone inside the swirler channels, the emissions of nitrogen oxide NO and carbon monoxide CO do not exceed the values corresponding to modern environmental requirements for emissions of toxic components by gas turbine engines.

The method of the gas-generator’s gasification chamber calculations for energy supply of grain dryers is done. The algorithm of determination the basic parameters of the gasification chamber is designed, its calculation for grain dryer of shaft type with productivity 6 ton/hour is performed. The main rational schemes of blowing tuyeres’ establishing in the gasification chamber for solid fuels of vegetable origin to get the qualitative and stabilized according to technological parameters generator gas are proposed. The dependence of blowing gases’ speed from the given tuyeres’ type and construction is established. The calculations of the main parameters of gasification chamber according the algorithm are done.

The gas microturbines gain significance in various industry sectors. One of their most crucial advantages is the capability of utilizing variety of fuels. At the same time, the emissions regulations become increasingly strict. This is why there is a need to look for a new technological solution to limit the emissions of selected substances, like carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). The internal recirculation of the flue gases is well known to limit the temperature peak and for the homogenization of the temperature field gradient in different combustion chambers. This paper presents a numerical investigation of a novel internal flue gas recirculation system applied to gas microturbine combustors. The ability to perform an internal exhaust gases recirculation by adding a combustor internal pipe system was verified numerically. This paper exposed the numerical investigation methods and obtained results. The study presents the concept and results performed on three cases of internal exhaust gases recirculation systems applied to a reference combustor. The work permitted to demonstrate numerically that it is possible to perform an autonomous exhaust gases recirculation inside gas micro-turbine combustor at a maximum global rate of 0.51%, and that the recirculation system has an impact on the combustion processes without specially modifying the combustor work parameters.

A solution related to pressure controlin thecombustion chamber, which should be used to reduce the level of CO2emissions, which will enable a positive environmental impact is presented. Especially nowadays, when there is a strong need to reduce the negative impact of production processes on environment, and all solutions leading to a reduction in CO2emission should also be perceived as very important for business.

Designed experiment concerns the assessment of different ways for reduction NH3, CH4, N2O and CO2 emissions, appearing during slurry storage. The assumptions and methodology of preliminary research was shown. The description of research stand, and laboratory equipment was shown. The laboratory stand was equipped with two kinds of fermentation chambers. The methodology of research based on measurements of gas concentration with use of photoacoustic Multi-gas Monitor. The way of determination of gas emission from fermentation chambers was described.

For the first time, it is proposed to use the advantages of plasma‒chemical intensification of the combustion of hydrocarbon fuels in the dual-fuel combustion chambers, which can simultaneously operate on gaseous and liquid fuels. A design scheme of a combustion chamber with a plasma‒chemical element is proposed. A continuous type mathematical model of a combustion chamber with a plasma‒chemical element has been developed, which is based on the solution of a system of differential equations describing the processes of chemical reactions in a turbulent system, taking into consideration the initiating effect of the products of plasma‒chemical reactions on the processes of flame propagation. A modified six-stage kinetic scheme of hydrocarbon oxidation was used to simultaneously predict the combustion characteristics of the gaseous and liquid fuels, taking into account the decrease in the activation energy of carbon monoxide oxidation reactions when the products of the plasma‒chemical element are added. The results reveal that the addition of plasma‒chemical products significantly reduces CO emissions in the outlet section of the flame tube (from 25‒28 ppm to 3.9‒4.6 ppm), while the emission of nitrogen oxides remains practically unchanged for the studied combustion chamber. Further research directions are proposed to enhance the working process efficiency of a dual-fuel combustion chamber for gas turbine engines as part of the power plant of FSPO vessels.
