This article reflects on the issue of legitimacy and attitudes of the young generation (16–19 years old) towards the European integration. The authors decided to divide the text into two parts, the first of which consists of the theoretical and historical approach to the problem of the legitimacy of European integration and the narrative about Europe, and the second presents the main conclusions and problems identified during the work of authors with the youth, and the implementation of the international Jean Monnet Network project MoreEU: More Europe to overcome the crisis. Confrontation of these two parts has made it clear that traditional justification of the legitimacy of the integration project does not speak to the contemporary youth, and that this is precisely in this age group that we can clearly see the crisis of the legitimacy of the European Union.

Shrinkage, depopulation and the related structural decline threaten development trajectories of more than a quarter of European territories from the present until 2050. In April 2021, the European Commission has launched the Conference on the Future of Europe to involve citizens and players beyond the traditional actors in shaping future policy agendas. The initiative consists of a wide-scale citizen engagement policy offering them a digital framework to actively contribute to the most relevant debates from April to December 2021. Given that shrinkage is a neglected theme in traditional policy arenas, this article examines the proposals of European citizens for reviving the future of shrinking areas. Through content analysis, the article highlights a limited relative presence of shrinkage in the Conference debate. Nevertheless, the results offer insights into the thematic concentration and the affinity of shrinkage with the most popular policy debates. The article also discusses the content of citizens’ ideas for the future of shrinking areas, thus offering concrete proposals that may fuel the definition of future policy agendas.

The papal diagnosis was not only naming actual dangers and strict rejecting of this identity, but also consequences of these processes.

It is currently becoming a challenge of the times to create authentic values in culture, which will allow human beings to save their humanity. There exists a dialectic relationship among values and culture. Values are determined by culture in its origin, content and model of functioning. Culture, on the other hand, is determined by the values that function whithin it. In whatever way we approach the world of values in culture, it is certain that they are objective, because they are rooted in the human world. They complement human beings. The article analyses three pillars of identity (value) of European culture as seen by Card. Ratzinger, namely: law, marriage and family and respect for sanctity. They decide, in a mea-surable manner, about future European identity and consequently about the future of the Old Continent.

The referendum on leaving the European Union held in the United Kingdom in June 2016 undoubtedly opened a new chapter in the history of the European integration. The general theory of international organizations tells us that countries normally leave international institutions as an act of last resort, when they are sidelined or feeling unable to shape their future. Was the UK in such a position in the EU? Or was the result of the British referendum rather a side effect of a small adaptability of the European institutions to global challenges, which in turn sparked a democratic revolt, erupted in an eurosceptic country? It is argued here that, regardless of the causes, the British issue influenced further polarization between federal and anti-federal forces in the European Union, and because the former are still in minority, the European Union will most likely pass over the Brexit to proceed according to the old agenda, maybe with some minor institutional changes, like readjustment of the seats in the European Parliament, but signifi cantly weakened on the global scene.

The research is focused on the role of higher education in the development of European values among applicants for higher education, in particular the role of international projects that contribute to active European citizenship and spread the fundamental values of the European Union. The article uses the method of modeling and substantiation of the model of the development of European values among future PhDs during a Jean Monnet Module of the Erasmus+ program called “University autonomy in the development of democratic values in higher education: The experience of the EU Member states for Ukraine” at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University. The model contains four structural blocks that specify the goal, tasks, methodological approaches, principles, content of structural components, forms, methods, means, stages, functions, pedagogical conditions, and expected results. The study is aimed at developing European values in graduate students as young scientists and teachers of higher education institutions – who will become agents of qualitative changes and help establish the principles of democracy in the academic community – and deepening European integration. The results of the study are presented in the broad public discourse of Ukraine, confirmed by the data of sociological studies on European integration in Ukrainian citizens’ value orientations, accelerated by the large-scale russian military invasion of Ukraine. Since sociological studies indicate a certain fragmentation of European values instead of an integral whole in the perception of the respondents, we believe that institutions of higher education themselves are an important element that builds the state and society on the basis of European values and that international projects implemented at universities contribute to the European integration of Ukraine and the formation of the values of a united Europe in young citizens. ********************* Funded by the European Union. The author discusses Chris Hann’s book Repatriating Polanyi, as a good opportunity for remembering Karl Polanyi’s character and output. In their time, Polanyi’s ideas about human economies were widely discussed in the social sciences, including in economic anthropology, and had a considerable impact on them. The text deals with those themes of Polanyi’s work that Hann addresses, that is, the question of forms of economic integration and his concept of double movement.

Wilhelm Wundt należał do tych uczonych oraz intelektualistów, którzy na temat I wojny światowej posiadali własne poglądy już wówczas, kiedy ta dopiero się zaczynała. W niniejszym artykule chcę odpowiedzieć na dwa pytania. Najpierw na to, które dotyczy osobliwości stanowiska Wundta, a następnie na to, które dotyczy wewnętrznej zgodności jego poglądów, to znaczy z jednej strony poglądów na temat wojny, a z drugiej – jego wcześniejszych, oryginalnych poglądów w zakresie filozofii i psychologii (np. etyka lub Völkerpsychologie). Stanowisko Wilhelma Wundta w odniesieniu do wojny – w odróżnieniu od opracowań wcześniejszych – scharakteryzuję na podstawie trzech jego prac: Über den wahrhaften Krieg (1914), Die Nationen und ihre Philosophie (1915) oraz Zur Lage (1916, odpowiedź dla „Polnische Blätter”). Wykorzystanie tego trzeciego źródła, przez wiele dziesięcioleci pomijanego przez historyków psychologii (zarówno w Polsce, jak również w innych krajach) wyznacza specyfikę poniższego opracowania.
Wilhelm Wundt was one of those scientists and intellectualists, who had their own opinions on WWI even when it was just beginning. In the article the author wants to answer two questions. First, the answer the question concerning peculiarity of Wundt’s stance. Second, answer the question of inner consistency of his opinions i.e. his outlooks on war and his earlier and original viewpoints on philosophy and psychology (i.e. ethics or Volkerpsychologie). Unlike in previous studies, Wilhelm Wundt’s stance on war is characterized based on his three works: Über den wahrhaften Krieg (1914), Die Nationen und ihre Philosophie (1915) and Zur Lage (1916, the answer for „Polnische Blätter”). The inclusion of the third work, which for many decades was ignored by psychology historians (in Poland and in the other countries alike), is what makes this study distinct.
