    This article aims to bring together some theory – research on climate  ethics, particularly the Pure Intergenerational Problem (PIP) introduced by Stephen Gardiner – and some practice – the new educational agenda proposed by the United Nations in 2002 and framed as the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD). PIP can be resolved (or rather, avoided) if a shift in values happens that would change the very context of the problem. On the other hand, DESD is aimed at promoting the values “inherent in sustainable development” and at enabling societal transformation and behavioral change. The main focus within the value shift in this article is on a particular set of values (principles, concerns) that relate present people to future generations in terms of moral responsibility. It is argued that the promotion of ethical considerations that are concerned with the distant future, and the future of humankind in general, can be a solution to the Pure Intergenerational Problem. The article also explores whether parts of this solution can already be found within the educational agenda of DESD.

    The article is concerned with the possibility of formulating moral judgments with respect to actions whose results may influence the quality of life, existence, number and identity of the future people. Because of the problems connected with defining the addressees and the reasons of responsibility for future generations on the ground of the ethical theories existing now, new theories are formulated on the basis of the so-called impersonal or personal premises. According to the impersonal theories moral evaluations are based on the final assessment of all the effects of the action, whose total value may be defined as a positive or negative state of affairs. According to the representatives of personal theories, the question whether an action has a beneficial or a harmful effect on the addressee of the action, is the main criterion of the moral evaluation. Since there is no satisfactory justification for the responsibility for the future generations, both in personal and impersonal theories argumentation is analyzed that is based on a predicted responsibility for the people who will exist in the future.

    The aim of the article is an attempt of presentation the relation between intergenerational justice and the idea of sustainable development. Definitions which are related to Brundtland Report explain sustainable development as development that satisfies needs of present generations without depriving the needs of future generations. So it is clearly defined there is no mean of a short time satisfaction, but rather of a wider context – just distribution of goods and obligations (natural and financial) between generations. Thus the political decisions should concern present problems in such a way that would guaranty material as well as social foundations for further development.

    In Europe, one’s right to the environment was explicitly established as a fundamental human right, and was also established in the interests of future generations. Damage to the environment causes, in most cases, long-lasting, negative effects which have a negative impact on posterity, i.e., those future generations which need to be protected, due to which it is necessary to intervene with effective policies that lead to an ecological transition achieved with a reduction in extant polluting substances. The goal of this article is to understand whether or not future generations are holders of an active subjective juridical situation in terms of an individual’s right to a healthy environment. A comparative analysis of jurisprudential and doctrinal sources aims to discard the option of considering future generations as holders of a subjective right to a healthy environment and will focus on current subjects upon whom many constitutions impose a legal situation aimed at implementing a series of climate-protection actions for those who will come in the future.

    Both sustainable development and transhumanism are based on forecasting, meaning making judgments about what the future will be like, and they are made according to the results of scientific research. Sustainable development is an already implemented concept, yet transhumanism is still far from a similar degree of implementation. However, it is worth reflecting on their coexistence, as they already have their place in the scientific discourse. The element connecting sustainable development with transhumanism seems to be an enlightenment vision of human development. The aim of the article is to show the similarities and differences in these approaches to future generations.
    Zarówno zrównoważony rozwój, jak i transhumanizm bazują na prognozowaniu, czyli na sądach odnoszących się do przyszłości, sformułowanych pod wpływem wyników pozyskanych z badań naukowych. Zrównoważony rozwój jest koncepcją już realizowaną, a do podobnego stopnia realizacji daleko jeszcze transhumanizmowi. Warto jednak podjąć refleksję nad ich koegzystencją, gdyż posiadają już swoje miejsce w dyskursie naukowym. Elementem łączącym zrównoważony rozwój z transhumanizmem wydaje się być oświeceniowa wizja rozwoju ludzkości. Celem artykułu jest pokazanie podobieństw i różnic w ich podejściu do przyszłych pokoleń.

    The question of social justice is a very important element of global education. Social justice refers to the equity principle in relations between large social groups; it concerns social classes and groups, nations, and faith groups. It encompasses the past, the present and the future. Due to the fact that global education is not merely a description but also an evaluation proposition, it is a scientific discipline about social justice. It has always been so, because no programme of economic, political or ideological expansion could exist without axiology. The problem of global education today is not limited to creating a programme adequate to the needs; it should also include a revision of its current content.
    Zagadnienie sprawiedliwości społecznej stanowi bardzo istotny element edukacji globalnej. Sprawiedliwość społeczna, dotycząca zasady równości w relacjach między wielkimi grupami społecznymi, dotyczy klas i warstw, narodów oraz grup wyznaniowych. Obejmuje ona zarówno przeszłość, teraźniejszość, jak i przyszłość. Ponieważ edukacja globalna nie jest jedynie opisem, ale również propozycją wartościowania, jest więc także nauką o sprawiedliwości społecznej. I zawsze nią była, gdyż żaden program ekspansji gospodarczej, politycznej czy ideowej nie mógł funkcjonować bez aksjologii. Problemem dzisiejszej edukacji globalnej jest nie tylko stworzenie adekwatnego do potrzeb, programu, lecz także rewizja dotychczasowych treści programowych.

    The basic issue addressed in this paper is responsibility conceived in the perspective of global responsibility and, within its framework, responsibility for future generations. In the face of growing threats and crisis phenomena the category of responsibility has gained a fundamental meaning. Responsibility may be considered in the context of the past and presence, but it should also be analyzed as referring to the future. The paper will elucidate main understanding of responsibility; the notion and value of responsibility will be analyzed in close relation to the notions and values of solidarity, justice, and community thinking and action.

    Poland, along with 192 other countries, has committed itself to achieving the goals of the sustainable development of the United Nations 2030 Agenda to transform the world for the better. It is a task that requires cooperation between the entire administration and all interested parties. Because of that the Supreme Audit Office carried out an audit concerning the implementation of the Agenda. NIK has examined whether the new development model for Poland, outlined in the Strategy for Responsible Development, meets the expectations formulated in the 2030 Agenda and how the public administration is prepared to implement, coordinate, and monitor the Agenda.

    The paper summarizes an international scientific conference devoted to the protection of future generations in Central Europe. The conference, which had a predominantly environmental legal focus, was meant to provide an overview of legal solutions in the Central European countries mainly on the constitutional level with the ultimate goal of safeguarding and preserving the environment. The event was organized by the Central European Academy on the premises of its parental organization, the University of Miskolc as part of a conference series organized within the framework of the Central European Professors’ Network program. The program aims to establish academic cooperation in the Central European region by creating various research groups focusing on the study and comparison of selected legal issues in the home countries of the research group members. The conference was held as an event connected to the activities of the research group responsible for the respective topic. The main aim of this paper is to concisely present the most important thoughts and ideas of the contributors.
    Artykuł stanowi podsumowanie Międzynarodowej Konferencji Naukowej poświęconej ochronie przyszłych pokoleń w Europie Środkowej. Konferencja, która w przeważającej mierze dotyczyła kwestii prawnośrodowiskowych, miała na celu przedstawienie przeglądu rozwiązań prawnych, głównie na poziomie konstytucyjnym, w krajach Europy Środkowej, zaangażowanych w ochronę środowiska. Wydarzenie zostało zorganizowane przez Akademię Środkowoeuropejską (Central European Academy) na Uniwersytecie w Miszkolcu jako część cyklu konferencji organizowanych w ramach projektu Central European Professors’ Network. Projekt polega na nawiązaniu współpracy akademickiej w regionie Europy Środkowej poprzez tworzenie różnych grup badawczych skupiających się na badaniu i porównywaniu wybranych zagadnień prawnych w krajach macierzystych członków grup badawczych. Konferencja miała charakter wydarzenia związanego z działalnością grupy badawczej odpowiedzialnej za dany temat. Głównym celem tego sprawozdania jest zwięzłe przedstawienie najważniejszych myśli i idei prelegentów.

    Ochrona środowiska stała się w ostatnich latach bardzo ważnym tematem nie tylko w polityce, ale także dla gospodarki światowej. Przedsiębiorstwa są organizacjami, które w istotny sposób wpływają na środowisko naturalne. Przedsiębiorcy mają tego świadomość czego efektem są powstające nowe koncepcje, które wpływają na zmianę myślenia o produkcji. Nie ma wątpliwości, że aspekt ekologiczny musi być brany pod uwagę w kontekście zarządzania firmą przyszłości. Zwrócenie uwagi przedsiębiorstwa na ekologiczny wymiar prowadzonej działalności znajduje swoje uzasadnienie nie tylko w etyce, ale również w ekonomii. Przegląd literatury wskazuje na wiele korzyści dla przedsiębiorstw płynących z wprowadzania odpowiednich praktyk w zakresie ochrony środowiska. Artykuł omawia pojęcie i istotę ekologicznej odpowiedzialności przedsiębiorstw przez pryzmat odpowiedzialności za przyszłe pokolenia. Celem artykułu jest analiza i ocena ekologicznej odpowiedzialności przedsiębiorstw z indeksu WIG-ESG, na podstawie informacji zawartych na oficjalnych stronach internetowych (działania środowiskowe realizowane przez przedsiębiorstwa, rodzaje praktyk prośrodowiskowych, analiza deklaracji odpowiedzialności za środowisko naturalne przez pryzmat dbałości o przyszłe pokolenia, próba odpowiedzi na pytanie – dlaczego przedsiębiorstwa z branż, które istotnie mogą wpływać na środowisko naturalne, są bardziej zainteresowane kwestiami środowiskowymi?). Wyniki badania pokazały, że firmy z indeksu WIG-ESG, w głównej mierze zainteresowane są działaniami związanymi z oszczędzaniem energii, gospodarką odpadami, zmniejszaniem emisji gazów cieplarnianych. Praktyki prośrodowiskowe związane są z procesami i produktami, a 40 proc. firm deklaruje odpowiedzialność za środowisko w kontekście odpowiedzialności za przyszłe pokolenia. Branże, które bardziej zanieczyszczają środowisko, mają wiele bodźców do ograniczania działań nieekologicznych.
    Environmental protection has become a very important topic in recent years, not only in politics but also in the world economy. Companies are individuals that have a very significant impact on the environment. Entrepreneurs are aware of this and new concepts are emerging that change and change thinking about production. There is no doubt that the ecological aspects must be taken into account in the management of the company of the future. Drawing the company’s attention to the ecological dimension of its business is justified not only in ethics but also in economics. The literature review points to the many benefits for businesses of introducing responsible environmental practices. The article discusses the concept and essence of environmental responsibility for future generations. The aim of the article is to analyze and asses the environmental responsibility of enterprises from the WIG-ESG index on the basis of informations contained on official websites (environmental activities carried out by enterprises, types of pro-environmental practices, analysis of declarations of responsibility for the natural environment through the prism of care for future generations, an attempt to answer the question why industries that can significantly affect the natural environment are more interested in environmental issues? The results of the study showed that WIG-ESG companies are mainly interested to saving energy, waste management, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Pro-environmental practices are related to processes and products and 40% of them declare responsibility for environment in terms of responsibility for future generations. Industries that pollute the environment more have many incentives to reduce non-ecological activities.

    Celem artykułu jest krytyka założeń leżących u podstaw koncepcji zrównoważonego przedsiębiorstwa, tj.: zagrożenia egzystencji człowieka wynikającego z degradacji stanu środowiska naturalnego spowodowanego rozwojem gospodarczym oraz związanej z nim wiedzy o potrzebach przyszłych pokoleń. Wskazano na konsekwencje przyjęcia koncepcji zrównoważonego przedsiębiorstwa dla praktyki zarządzania organizacjami gospodarczymi. Jedną z nich jest wzrost kosztów prowadzący do utraty konkurencyjności. Rozwijana jest teza głosząca ideologizację zarządzania poprzez stosowanie miar efektywności wykraczających poza tradycyjny rachunek zysków i strat. Miar związanych z degradacją środowiska naturalnego wykorzystywanych w zależności od bieżących interesów politycznych. Formułowane tezy poparto danymi statystycznymi, opiniami ekspertów oraz wynikami badań socjologicznych.
    The aim of the article is a critique of the assumptions of the sustainable enterprise concept, i.e. the threat to the existence of humankind as a result of the environmental degradation caused by economic development and the knowledge on the needs of future generations. What was indicated were the consequences of adopting the sustainable enterprise concept for the organizational management practice. One of them is the increase in costs leading to loss of competitiveness. The argument is being developed that management is becoming ideological through the use of efficiency measures that go beyond traditional profit and loss accounting. What is meant here are measures linked to the natural environment degradation, used depending on the current political interests. The thesis was supported by relevant statistical data, expert opinions, and sociological research results.

W świetle coraz bardziej rychłej perspektywy rozpoczęcia działalności wydobywczej w obszarze dna morskiego morza pełnego konieczną staje się refleksja nad stopniem przygotowania Międzynarodowej Organizacji Dna Morskiego do realizacji swoich funkcji w zakresie reprezentowania interesu ludzkości.
    The concept of intergenerational justice is deeply rooted into the regulation of activities in the Area. United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on many occasions stresses the need to protect the marine environment in the interest of both contemporary and future generations. One of the institutions with vast competences in this field is the International Seabed Authority. With a perspective on inevitable commercial exploration and exploitation of seabed resourcesthere is a need to answer the question if the Seabed Authority is properly prepared both in the field of law and policy to act as a steward of a mankind?Which instruments has been developed to ensure sustainable use of seabed resources and which of them are at the disposal of the International Seabed Authority? Finally, are the standards of the protection of seabed environment sufficient to satisfy the needs of contemporary consumption without diminishing the ability of the mankind in the future to freely choose their path of development? We can assume that environmental standards which would protect the interest of future people would also secure the sustainability in contemporary use of common heritage at the Seas. International Seabed Authority and international law of the sea can play important role in this process by shaping the future of the mankind with actions undertaken today.

    Результативность деятельности любой организации может оцениваться как с позиции экономической, так и с позиции социальной эффективности. В последнее время все большее внимание уделяется именно социальной эффективности. Статья посвящена анализу аспектов социально ответственной деятельности образовательного учреждения. Необходимость управления деятельностью учебного заведения на основе принципов социальной ответственности вытекает, прежде всего, из того, что оно выполняет одну из самых важных общественных функций – функцию обучения молодого поколения и передачи накопленного опыта. В статье выделено 5 уровней социальной ответственности, которые конкретизированы в отношении учебного учреждения до конкретных управленческих решений.
    The performance of any organization must be evaluated from the perspective of both the economic and social position with efficiency. In recent years, increasing attention is paid to social efficiency. This article analyzes the aspects of socially responsible activities of an educational organization. The need for management of the organization based on the principles of social responsibility implies first of all, from the fact that it performs one of the most important public functions - education the younger generation and transfer of experience. The 5 levels of social responsibility introduced in the article, which are specified to the educational organization and can be applied for management decisions.

    Opis:
    This paper considers the problem of autonomy of the individual in a democratic society, and the problem of education for autonomy, education seen as a challenge and our moral responsibility to the future generation. I assume that the decisive role in this task is for us all. The quality of our response to the call of responsibility to the future generation depends largely on our generation’s attitude – whether the generation responsible to the future generations will take action or whether it will be made responsible for its inaction in the future. Teachers and teacher education are placed in the centre of the presented analysis. I argue that teachers who do not focus on acquiring and expanding their autonomy competences, or do not use the autonomy assigned to them by law, are not able to create appropriate conditions for their students in the field of education. Education for autonomy depends, among other conditions, on the teachers’ responsibility for their own professional development. A significant responsibility in this respect falls on universities that provide teacher education.
