    The authors state that the rapid penetration of design into every field of human life, the convergence of material production with art, the development of design technologies, and increasing the social impact of design have significantly heightened professional requirements for modern designers. However, the modern system of design education does not prepare students for the challenges they will face in the nearest future. The methodological approaches necessary for improving future designers’ professional training quality are determined. The empirical investigations on the future designers’ readiness for professional and scientific research activities are analysed. Methods of boosting the future designers’ ability to carry out scientific research and organising professional design activities are offered.

    Opis:
    Throughout their history, all civilized states have built buildings for libraries in line with their needs, possibilities, and imperatives. Every time any dedicated structures were designed and built to host a library, they incorporated the sense for their further use by future generations. Thus, there evolved a basis for a library of the future. The presented cases from modern international practices in library design and construction illustrate a broad range of expanding possibilities in architecture and design in this new thematic area. The use of modern structural systems, finishing materials, and lighting fixtures enable interesting and unique features in library buildings, while new spatial organisation changes the layout structure and architectonics of libraries. What is this library of the future? What particularities make it different from the libraries of the past and present? What are the key criteria of a high-quality library functioning in the future? These are major questions explored in the paper that, when answered, provide clear conclusions.

    Prezentowany tekst jest kontynuacją artykułu opublikowanego w Builder Science numer 2/2020 [1]. W materiale zostały opisane przypadki realnego zastosowania środowiska VR w kreowaniu wirtualnych przestrzeni. VR to skrót angielskiego Virtual Reality, w tłumaczeniu na język polski oznaczającego rzeczywistość wirtualną. Termin określa stereoskopową projekcję całkowicie sztucznego środowiska zbudowanego w czasie rzeczywistym, wśród której można się poruszać. Oba artykuły (poprzedni i obecny) są próbą odpowiedzi na pytanie: czy wirtualna rzeczywistość jest nam potrzebna? W pierwszym tekście autorzy zaprezentowali przykłady zastosowania wirtualnej rzeczywistości w branży budowlanej. Przeanalizowano efekty zastosowania tej technologii przez firmy deweloperskie oraz przedsiębiorstwo zajmujące się m.in. dystrybucją smart parkingów. Omówiono także aplikację House Customizer dającą możliwość tworzenia elementów trójwymiarowych w wirtualnej przestrzeni. W niniejszym artykule autorzy przedstawili zastosowanie wirtualnej rzeczywistości na przykładach z branży wyposażenia wnętrz oraz rozrywkowej. Prezentowane projekty różnią się stopniem zaawansowania użytej technologii, a także grupą docelową oraz celem, jaki miał zostać osiągnięty poprzez zastosowanie VR. Omawiane projekty zostały zrealizowane przez firmę Digital Wanderer (http://digitalwanderer.pl/), z którą współpracował jeden z autorów publikacji. Artykuł oparto na badaniach własnych, które przeprowadzono w trakcie współpracy z ww. firmą. W tekście wykorzystano obserwacje własne oraz wywiady przeprowadzone z klientami, inwestorami oraz uczestnikami wydarzeń, podczas których wykorzystano technologię VR.
    The presented text is a continuation of the article published in Builder Science number 2/2020 [1]. The text describes cases of real use of the VR build environment in creating virtual spaces. The abbreviation VR means the term Virtual Reality. This describes the stereoscopic projection of a completely artificial, virtual real-time built environment within which person can not only move but explore. Both articles (previous and present) are an attempt to answer the question: do we need Virtual Reality? In the first text, the authors presented examples of the use of VR in the construction industry. The effects of the use of this technology were analyzed by development companies, as well as by a company dealing, among others, with the distribution of Smart Parking lots. The House Customizer application was also discussed, giving the possibility to create three-dimensional elements in virtual space. In the present article, the authors presented the use of virtual reality on examples from the interior design and entertainment industries. The presented projects differ in the degree of advancement of the technology used, as well as the target group and the goal to be achieved through the use of VR. The projects discussed were carried out by Digital Wanderer studio (http://digitalwanderer.pl/), with which one of the authors of the publication collaborated. The article is based on own research carried out in cooperation with the above-mentioned company. In this text authors use their own observations, interviews with customers, investors and participants of events during which VR technology was used.

    This article deals with the design of new generation of airports terminals using the concept of smart interactive terminal and presents its main functional zones and technologies. In addition, adoption of technology as symbolic expressive tool in the architecture of airports terminals. Problem of the research is lack of approach and practice of smart interactive terminals functional planning and organization, the previous researches about this type of buildings are dealing with the influence of technology on one functional zone inside the terminal, not taking all functional zones inside it. The aims of research are presenting the influence of technology on all functional zones inside the smart interactive terminal and understanding the connection between them, this study will look also at the transformation of airport terminal interior design in relation to technology and automatic passengers processing systems. additionally, introducing the functional planning of smart interactive terminals buildings and its architectural design features. The results of developing a smart integrated terminal are presented. A comparative functional analysis was done of the proposed terminals as well as its design and technology.

Rozwój techniki powinien uwzględniać sytuacje, kiedy może to być wpływ dwukierunkowy o skutkach niespodziewanych. Być może to jest jedno z największych wyzwań psychologii XXI wieku.
    Evolution of the human is evolution of it’s brain. This development made possible the fact that is called evolution of the machine. This evolution requires integration of knowledge from different fields. Nowadays, the technique allows the integration of man and machine. Progress gives chance of bidirectional influence between machines and humans. It must be changed in future. Engineers have to begin a multi-level discussion on technology issues that are difficult to avoid in the near future, including artificial intelligence issues. Thus, at the design stage, the engineer has to take possibility of bilateral interaction.

    Approaching science as a field of culture, the article discusses the possibility of broadening cultural research with tools used in designing. Various forms of speculative design are presented as an opportunity to establish a dialogue with entities from outside the academia and thus a way in which researchers may influence social imagination. While risky, as it can potentially weaken the academia’s autonomy, in a world where many human activities take place in a pre-designed and pre-programmed space, such move may prove essential to complement critical discourse.

Autor artykułu, osobiście zaangażowany w te szczególne wydarzenia, korzystając z przykładów i doświadczeń trzech uznanych i docenionych, znakomitych osób – zasłużonych twórców i ludzi wysokiej kultury, ukazuje „między wierszami” trudne i meandryczne, ale też piękne i tchnące optymizmem - dzieje architektury i urbanistyki ostatnich kilkudziesięciu lat, zwłaszcza na gruncie Polski.
    The article presents and analyses the personality and life's work of three extraordinary Polish architects that have lived and worked essentially on the domestic field. During the year 2014, which passes on as this article is being written, all three of our heroes have been awarded with honors and recognition due to their jubilees or other meritorious creative works - by the academic, professional and intellectual communities, in addition to receiving mentions by the leading media. The author of the article, who has been personally involved in these special events, attempts to illustrate - with the means of the experiences and examples of the works of these great men and people of high culture, in a kind of "between-the-lines" fashion - the difficult and meandering, and yet beautiful and optimistic history of architecture and urban planning of the past couple of decades, especially in Poland.

    Architektura mieszkaniowa tworzy ramy dla zaspokojenia potrzeb mieszkaniowych, umożliwia odczuwanie satysfakcji estetycznej, może wyrażać wartości związane ze stylem życia, reprezentowane przez odbiorcę, manifestować jego prestiż i informować o pozycji społecznej. Spektakularne osiągnięcia współczesnej architektury sprawiły, że została ona „celebrytką”, przedmiotem medialnych doniesień dotyczących najnowszych architektonicznych realizacji i ich twórców: tym samym śledzenie rozwoju architektury stało się rodzajem hobby, któremu poświęcają się nie tylko profesjonaliści. Opisany splot uwarunkowań (wzmocniony dodatkowo przez kody kulturowe) sprawia, że aspiracje Polaków związane z zamieszkiwaniem są wysokie i stale rosną. Uwarunkowania ekonomiczne i prawne sprawiają jednak, że marzenia o „domu jutra” zostają urealnione i stają się preferencjami mieszkaniowymi, czyli konglomeratem potrzeb, wyobrażeń i możliwości nabywczych Polaków. Powstaje więc pytanie o obraz tychże preferencji, szczególnie w kontekście wymogów projektowania zrównoważonego. Znajomość oczekiwań wobec środowiska mieszkaniowego pozwala na wdrożenie działań edukacyjnych i przekonanie Polaków do architektury lepszej jakościowo. Celem artykułu jest prezentacja tych wyników ogólnopolskich badań mieszkańców miast, które dotyczą oczekiwań w zakresie prośrodowiskowych cech architektury mieszkaniowej.
    Residential architecture creates a framework for meeting housing needs. It offers users aesthetic satisfaction, the expression of values associated with lifestyle, prestige and social status. Contemporary architecture has made spectacular advances achieving “celebrity” status in media reports with respect to the latest architectural work and its creators. Architecture has also become a kind of ‘hobby of interest’ not only for professionals but also the general public. These conditions along with cultural codes have contributed to a rapid growth in the aspirations of Poles about their residence. Economic and legal considerations, however, bring the dream “house of tomorrow” back to reality. Housing preferences are a conglomerate of needs, dreams, aspirations, perceptions and household purchasing power. Knowledge of these preferences, especially in the context of sustainable design, calls for creative, high quality housing environments. The principal aim of the paper is to present the results of nationwide survey of city dwellers on housing preferences in Poland and to highlight the barriers that could limit the development of future sustainable housing environments. Survey respondents were asked, among other things, about their expectations in relation to pro-environmental characteristics of residential architecture. The findings show the main problem with respect to sustainable housing in Poland is social rather than physical. Hence this knowledge of the residents’ expectations in relation to the residential environment reinforces the need for educational and the promotion of activities about urban design and architecture and how it can lead to better quality and more sustainable environments.

    Kraków stanowi unikatowy przykład wśród historycznych i zabytkowych miast w skali światowej. Jego czołowe bogactwa to: wyjątkowa przeszłość oraz pozostałe po niej zasoby: krajobrazowe, urbanistyczne i architektoniczne. Jego współczesność jest naznaczona i obciążona uwarunkowaniami i trudnościami, które mogą stanowić model szans i zagrożeń dla innych miast poddanych trudnej transformacji. Dla lepszego wydobycia tych zagadnień i dla uwypuklenia analogii, przedstawiono, śladowo i na głębszym tle – istotne zagadnienia, które wystąpiły w najbardziej wyrazistej postaci, na wybranych przykładach miast zagranicznych. Artykuł więc na podstawie głębokiej analizy historycznej, jest zorientowany na zarysowanie najaktualniejszych kwestii, które ujawniają się wskutek progowego przekształcania Krakowa, jako miasta skupiającego, jak w przysłowiowej soczewce, współczesne trudności rozwojowe, zawierające się – pomiędzy chaosem a zrównoważeniem.
    Cracow is a unique example of a city in worldwide scale because of its resources: landscape, urban and architectural. Presently the city is marked and burdened by conditionings and difficulties being a model of opportunities and threads for cities of transformation. Problems connected with selected foreign cities are presented for analogy. The article draws, on the basis of historical analysis, actual problems of threshold transformation of Cracow, between chaos and balance.

    Artykuł dotyczy problematyki związanej z projektowaniem jednorodzinnej architektury mieszkaniowej - wolnostojącego domu jednorodzinnego nt. "Dom jutra" na przykładzie projektów studenckich wykonanych w Katedrze Kształtowania Środowiska Mieszkaniowego Wydziału Architektury Politechniki Krakowskiej w semestrze IV roku akademickiego 2011/2012. Domu niedalekiej przyszłości rzędu kilkunastu lat, tj. okresu, w którym obecni studenci, a przyszli architekci będą prowadzić samodzielną działalność zawodową projektowo-realizacyjną. Studenckie rozwiązania funkcjonalno - przestrzenne domów jutra przedstawiły różnorodne idee kształtowania zrównoważonego środowiska mieszkaniowego człowieka w niedalekiej przyszłości, a w szczególności architektury mieszkaniowej. Artykuł przedstawia merytoryczną charakterystykę prezentowanych projektów, osiągnięte wyniki dydaktyczne Katedry Kształtowania Środowiska Mieszkaniowego oraz tendencje w nauczaniu zrównoważonego projektowania architektoniczno - urbanistycznego domów jutra.
    This article concerns problems related to the design of single-family housing architecture - tomorrow's detached house exemplified by designs prepared by the students of the Chair of Housing Environment at the Faculty of Architecture, Cracow University of Technology in Semester 4 in the academic year 2011/2012. Such a house is meant for the years to come when today's students and tomorrow's architects will run their own professional practice in the field of design and implementation. The students' functional and spatial solutions of tomorrow's houses revealed various ideas of shaping man's sustainable housing environment in the near future, especially in the domain of housing architecture. This paper includes a profile of the presented designs pertaining to the subject matter, the educational results of the Chair of Housing Environment and the tendencies in teaching the sustainable architectural and urban design of tomorrow's houses.

    W artykule wskazano na pewne aspekty konstrukcyjne odnośnie samochodów, które będą eksploatowane w latach epoki cywilizacji informacji. W rozwiązaniach przyjęto założenie, że samochody przyszłości będą, podobnie jak obecne, posiadały trzy stopnie swobody w przypadku ruchu po powierzchni Ziemi. To założenie oznacza jednocześnie, że nie brane są pod uwagę takie pojazdy, które można by dzisiaj nazwać "air car" lub "air mobile car". Na podstawie przyjętego założenia można sądzić, ze samochody epoki nowej cywilizacji będą wg takiej samej ogólnej koncepcji konstrukcyjnej jak samochody obecne. To założenie wynika między innymi z porównań konstrukcji pierwszych i dzisiejszych samochodów. Potwierdza to również fakt, że od początku powstania pierwszych samochodów do obecnych czasów wszystkie samochody są budowane wg takiego samego systemu energetycznego, w którym realizują się różne przemiany energii.
    The paper deals with some design problem of the motor cars which are going to be produced in the time of new informatics civilization epoch. The cars of future will have the same number of motion degrees as the cars of the day. This means that are not taking into considerations the cars which could be called for instants "air car" or "air mobile car". From this appears the cars of future will be built accordingly to the present ones. It is proved by comparison the cars of last centuries with up to day cars. Furthermore the same general design idea is confirms by existence the same energy system in each motor car moves on the earth.
