    More and more content is being created all over the world and it is simply not possible for all this to be translated by human translators. The profession of translators is far from being abolished, but it is subject to serious changes. Completely new tasks await the translators. It is not only machines that have to be “reprogrammed.” The same can be said about the profession of interpreters. Here, we are also dealing with the changing work environment, with price pressure, impact of new technologies, changes in working conditions. In the future, we need not only new skills, but also a completely new approach to our profession. Are we prepared for this and how are we prepared for it? What do we need for this? How can professional associations help?

    Opis:
    Senior members of the Polish geological and mining community have appealed for discussion on the main challenges facing the geology and mining sectors after thirty years of the political and economic transformation in the country. A key issue is the proper place of geology in the government administration and in relation to other administrative entities and sectors of the national economy. This article attempts to provide an answer to this issue. It presents the results of a brief analysis of the most important laws defining the role of geology, as well as strategies, policies and government plans regarding the geology and mining as well as the resource management. Shortcomings in efficient functioning of the geological administration and inconsistencies in regulations are critically assessed. A diagnosis is made anda possible solution proposed, including a change in placement of geology in the government administration. The author also proposes a broader concept of management of subsurface resources as a single coherent field.

    There are several papers available addressing the challenges for Future Internet that result from socio-economic aspects; such challenges must be obviously taken into account when constructing and developing Future Internet. This paper, however, takes an opposite view that from the dynamics of the development of Internet itself (or Future Internet) result challenges for the socio-economic development and even for the paradigm of understanding economy; such challenges must be taken into account first, then - in a feedback loop -lead to the modification of socio-economic challenges for Future Internet. This change of perspective is necessary because the analysis of socio-economic challenges for Future Internet is typically based on a classical paradigm of equilibrium economics. While useful, this paradigm is limited and has been shown incomplete, e.g., by the recent world-wide financial and economic crisis. This paper shows that the informational revolution - including but not limited to the development of Internet - has already changed the behavior of main socio-economic agents as well as of economic markets and our understanding of them; thus, new perspectives are needed. The paper also shows that a useful perspective is that not of expected benefits from Future Internet - there are many such benefits and they will surely motivate enough economic development of Future Internet - but of socio-economic threats resulting from the dynamic development of the Internet. There are several such threats and conflicts that can be foreseen: the conflict between corporatization and governance; the conflict between direct and indirect limits to freedom; the trend to- wards elitarism inherent in Internet development dynamics versus democracy; the threat of network and computer domination over people, etc. Some of such threats and conflicts are discussed in the paper.

    Polska coraz częściej jest charakteryzowana jako kraj wysokorozwinięty, jednakże istnieje szereg wyzwań mogących zepchnąć ją z obranej ścieżki rozwoju. Z tego powodu zasadnym jest analizowanie scenariuszy przyszłości. Badanie uwarunkowań wskazuje, że w wielu przypadkach mogą pojawić się istotne zagrożenia. Zalicza się do nich m.in. niekorzystną sytuację demograficzną oraz strukturę polskiej gospodarki (np. mało wydolne rolnictwo, niski udział sektora high-tech, itp.). Ponadto ważnym czynnikiem określającym pozycję kraju jest otoczenie zewnętrzne, zwłaszcza członkostwo w Unii Europejskiej. Jest ono istotne ze względu na trudną sytuację polityczną i gospodarczą, zwłaszcza w strefie euro. Dlatego też, wszystkie przedstawione scenariusze rozwoju Unii Europejskiej zakładają, że najbliższe czterdziestolecie będzie okresem spadku znaczenia Europy na rynkach światowych. Ewolucja Unii Europejskiej będzie zależeć m.in. od poziomu rozszerzenia integracji, oficjalnego wprowadzenia wielu prędkości współpracy oraz skłonności do jej pogłębiania. Polska powinna dostosowywać swoją politykę do działań podejmowanych w Europie. Jednakże wiele inicjatyw jest niezależnych od sytuacji międzynarodowej. Pierwszoplanowym działaniem jest zdefiniowanie, w polskich warunkach, pojęcia rozwój i na tej podstawie zbudowanie jego długoterminowej wizji. Chodzi tu przede wszystkim o określenie warunków sprzyjających koniunkturze. Należą do nich m.in. zmiany kulturowe i edukacyjne zmierzające do: zwiększenia aktywności Polaków, proinnowacyjnego podejścia do świata, wzrostu możliwości pracy zespołowej, a zwłaszcza do wypracowania nawyku uczenia się przez całe życie.
    Poland is increasingly being characterized as a high by developed country, but there is a number of challenges that can push it out of the chosen path of development. For this reason, it is appropriate to analyze future scenarios. The survey indicates that in many cases there may be significant threats. These include, among others, unfavorable demographic situation and the structure of the Polish economy (eg, inefficient agriculture, low share of high-tech sector, etc.). Moreover, the external environment is an important factor in determining the position of the country, especially the European Union membership. It is important due to the difficult political and economic situation, especially in the euro area. Therefore, all of the European Union's development scenarios assume that the next forty years will be a period of declining importance in the global market. Evolution of the European Union will depend, among others on: enlargement of integration, official introducing of multi-speed cooperation and willingness to deepen it. Poland should adjust its policy to the actions undertaken in Europe. However, many initiatives are independent of the international situation. The primary activity is to define, in Polish conditions, the concept of development and on this basis to build its long-term vision. This means primarily to define the conditions for prosperity. These include the changes in cultural and educational efforts to increase: the activity of the Poles, pro-innovation approach to the world, team work, and especially the habit of life-long learning.

    Niniejszy tekst wynika z intencji zwrócenia uwagi na znaczenie wychowania do pokoju w procesie demokratyzacji życia społecznego w kontekście niemieckiej edukacji obywatelskiej dorosłych. System edukacji obywatelskiej na terenie Niemiec jest bardzo rozbudowany i skutecznie umacnia fundamenty demokratycznego państwa. Począwszy od zakończenia II wojny światowej, aż do czasów obecnych dostrzec można zmieniające się w czasie funkcje społeczne oraz sensy i znaczenia edukacji obywatelskiej. Niezmienne powtarzają się jednak treści, które akcentują rozumienie wartości życia w pokoju, celowe działania na rzecz utrzymania pokoju i stworzenia gwarancji czyniących go trwałym, kształtowanie przekonań, iż nierówności społeczne są przyczyną konfliktów, a realizacja pokojowego ładu znajduje się w zasięgu każdego człowieka. Wszystkie te działania przenika humanistyczny sposób myślenia stanowiący podstawę wychowania do pokoju, które wciąż jest istotnym i aktualnym zobowiązaniem edukacyjnym, ale i społecznym. Życie w ponowoczesnym świecie pokazuje, że daleki jest on od pokojowego współistnienia. Wychowanie do pokoju wydaje się więc szczególnie pożądane we współczesnym świecie, nie ma bowiem alternatywy dla pokoju.
    This thesis is aiming to draw attention to the importance of education for peace in the process of democratisation of social life in the context of civic education of adults in Germany. The civic education in Germany is very developed and effectively strengthens the foundations of this democratic nation. Starting from the end of the Second World War up to the present day, we can see social functions and meanings of civic education changing. Invariably, there exists the repeating content that emphasises understanding of the value of life in peace, intentional actions to maintain peace and provide a guarantee of making it permanent, shaping beliefs that social inequalities are the cause of conflict and that achieving peaceful order is within reach of every human being. All these activities are permeated by the humanistic way of thinking, being the basis of education for peace, which is still an important and current commitment in educational and social space. Life in the postmodern world shows that it is far from peaceful coexistence. Education for peace seems particularly desirable in this modern world, as there is no other current alternative to peace

    W artykule przedstawione są w ujęciu retrospektywnym historia i modele mieszkalnictwa społecznego w Europie Zachodniej. Nakreślone są jego podstawowe problemy w państwach transformacji systemowej. Postrzeganie tego mieszkalnictwa z perspektywy Unii Europejskiej dopełnia niezbyt jasną jego sytuację i przyszłość. Wnioski służą sygnalizowaniu społecznych wyzwań strukturalnych w tym zakresie.
    The article presents, in a retrospective approach, the history and models of social housing in the Western Europe. Also, it outlines basic problems of social housing in those European states, which have undergone transformations of their political systems. Viewing that type of housing from the EU perspective adds to its none too very clear situation and future. Conclusions aim at drawing attention to social structural challenges in that field.
