    Artykuł stanowi interpretację dwóch książek amerykańskiej pisarki Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, poświęconych II wojnie światowej na Wyspach Brytyjskich oraz dramatowi dwójki rodzeństwa, ofiar przemocy domowej. Dziecięcy adresat utworów oraz dziecięca bohaterka i narratorka obu tomów to czynniki konstrukcyjne umożliwiające postawienie pytań o terapeutyczną moc literatury dla niedorosłych. Wpisane w fabułę obu powieści akty lektury książek dla dzieci oraz świadectwa ich twórczego wyzyskiwania w procesie rozwoju małoletnich bohaterów dowodzą siły odpowiednio zaprojektowanej fikcji, za sprawą której dziecięcy protagoniści zdobywają język do nazywania własnych stanów oraz porcję nadziei i wiary w przyjazny, opiekuńczy świat, co w wojennym oraz przemocowym kontekście wydawać się może odrobinę utopijne, jednak konieczne, by osłonić rozwijającą się dopiero psychikę (bohatera i wirtualnego odbiorcy) przed nadmiarem bólu i strachu.
    The article is an interpretation of two books by American writer Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. It is devoted to the subject of World War II in the British Isles and the drama of two siblings, victims of domestic violence. A child as the recipient of the works and the child heroine and narrator of both books are the reasons for asking about the therapeutic power of literature for the youth. The acts of reading children’s books and the testimonies of their creative use in the process of development of child characters prove the strength of properly designed fiction. Thanks to it, child protagonists acquire a language to name their own condition and a little hope and belief in a friendly, caring world. In the context of war and domestic violence this may seem a little utopian, but it is necessary to protect the developing psyche (of the hero and of the virtual recipient) from excess pain and fear.

    Opis:
    Der Artikel betrifft die Erkenntnisfunktion der Literatur. Es wird gezeigt, dass uns die literarischen Narrationen aufgrund ihrer erzählerischen mimetischen Funktion ermöglichen, uns mit fiktionalen Helden zu identifizieren. Auf diese Weise erweitern sie unseren Erkenntnishorizont und beeinflussen unsere eigenen biografischen Erzählungen. In diesem Prozess gewinnen wir die Möglichkeit, über unsere Autonarrationen nachzudenken, sie aufs Neue zu erzählen und uns zu erkundigen, wer wir wirklich sind und was unser Selbst ausmacht. Um den Beweis dafür zu erbringen, beziehe ich mich einerseits auf die ethische Kritik von Marta Nussbaum und Wayne C. Booth, andererseits auf den Entwurf der narrativen Identität von Paul Ricoeur, Alasdair MacIntyre, Charles Taylor, Marya Schlechtman und David de Grazia. Ich argumentiere damit, dass ein solcher Austausch zwischen der Identität des Lesers und der Identität der fiktionalen Gestalt möglich ist, weil beide einen narrativen Charakter haben.
    The paper concerns the cognitive function of literature. I show that literary stories, because of their narrative and mimetic structure, enable us to identify with fictitious heroes, and thus become able to widen our cognitive as well as moral horizon, and to influence our own life-stories. In such a process, we receive the opportunity to re-tell and re-think our personal narration and in such a way learn who we really are and what it means to be ourselves. In order to demonstrate this, I refer to Martha Nussbaum‘s and Wayne C. Booth‘s ethical criticism on the one hand, and to Paul Ricoeur’s, Alasdair MacIntyre’s, Charles Taylor’s, Marya Schechtman’s and David DeGrazia’s theory of narrative identity on the other. I argue that such a mutual exchange between the reader’s identity and a fictional character is possible as both of them have a narrative structure and are sort of a story.
    Artykuł dotyczy poznawczej funkcji literatury. Pokazuję, że ze względu na swoją narracyjną, mimetyczną strukturę literackie narracje umożliwiają nam utożsamianie się z fikcyjnymi bohaterami, a w ten sposób poszerzają nasz horyzont poznawczy i wpływają na nasze własne opowieści biograficzne. W tym procesie zyskujemy możliwość przemyślenia i opowiedzenia na nowo naszych autonarracji i dowiedzenia się, kim naprawdę jesteśmy i co to znaczy być sobą. Aby to udowodnić, odwołuję się do krytyki etycznej Marty Nussbaum i Wayne`a C. Bootha z jednej strony oraz do koncepcji tożsamości narracyjnej Paula Ricoeura, Alasdair`a MacIntyre`a, Charlesa Taylora, Maryi Schechtman i Davida De Grazii z drugiej. Argumentuję, że taka wzajemna wymiana pomiędzy tożsamością czytelnika i tożsamością fikcyjnej postaci jest możliwa, ponieważ obydwie one mają charakter narracyjny.

    The paper presents, systematizes and analyzes gender stereotypes in the book “The Old Wives’ Stories” by M. Luksha. The research is focused on the correlation among the way of life, traditional social norms and state policy in the formation of femininity/masculinity stereotypes. The influence of culture/literature on the formation of gender stereotypes and gender roles is noted.
    Autorka artykułu przedstawia, porządkuje i analizuje stereotypy gender w książce M. Łukszy „Babskie historie”. Badanie skupia się na związkach między sposobem życia, tradycyjnymi normami społecznymi a polityką państwa, które warunkują stereotypy gender. Autorka zwraca uwag, że kultura/literatura ma istotny wpływ na stereotypy i role gender.

    This article attempts to discuss the evolution of the theoretical basis of bibliotherapy and the possibility of its practical applications in the activities of prevention, treatment, education and socialization of readers. Its attractiveness, and at the same time difficulty of description, is connected with its interdisciplinary nature which smoothly combines study of literature, bibliology, psychology, pedagogy, sociology, philosophy, history, anthropology, and even medical sciences. This melting pot of so differentiated, yet similar issues is joined by their affiliation to humanistic reflection, and thus becomes a set of flexible tools useful in the process of strengthening the physical and mental condition of customers.
    Artykuł stanowi próbę omówienia ewolucji teoretycznych podstaw biblioterapii oraz możliwości jej zastosowań praktycznych w działaniach z zakresu profilaktyki, terapii, wychowania, edukacji i socjalizacji czytelników. Atrakcyjność, ale i trudność opisywania biblioterapii łączy się z jej interdyscyplinarnością. Płynnie łączą się w jej obrębie literaturoznawstwo, bibliologia, psychologia, pedagogika, socjologia, filozofia, historia, antropologia, a nawet nauki medyczne. Zróżnicowane, a jednocześnie bliskie zagadnienia, połączone wspólnym mianownikiem przynależności do refleksji humanistycznej, mogą przekształcić się w poręczny zestaw elastycznych narzędzi przydatnych w procesie umacniania kondycji psychicznej i fizycznej odbiorców.

    Artykuł w zamierzeniu autora ma uwidaczniać poznawcze walory literatury w zakresie moralności i aksjologii. Tekst zaczyna się od wymienienia funkcji literatury, podkreślając funkcję poznawczą. Wskazuje na różnice poznania literackiego i naukowego. Następnie autor przedstawia możliwość skupienia się, podczas poznania literackiego, na kwestiach moralnych i aksjologicznych, posiłkuje się przy tym konkretnymi przykładami literackimi. Stoi na stanowisku, że przed-socjologiczne poznanie literackie może być nie mniej cenne i doniosłe od poznania socjologicznego. Oba, jego zdaniem, niejako się uzupełniają.
    Krzysztof Sztalt’s aim in this article is to highlight the cognitive values of literature in the field of morality and axiology. He begins by listing the functions of literature and emphasizing the cognitive function. He goes on to indicate the differences between literary and scientific cognition. He then considers the possibility of focusing, during the process of the cognition of literary works, on moral and axiological problems. Addressing these problems he cites a specific literary examples. He argues that pre-sociological literary cognition can be no less valuable and important than sociological cognition. In his opinion, both forms of cognition complement each other.

    W niniejszym artykule przedmiotem uwagi jest kilka sposobów uobecniania się motywu wolności lub jej braku w powieściach Pauliny Wilkońskiej, reprezentantki literatury popularnej XIX wieku. Zagadnienie to omówiono w odniesieniu do trzech sfer. Pierwsza z nich wiąże się z tematyzacją pragnienia wolności i doświadczania niewoli narodowej. Druga dotyczy ograniczeń swobody podmiotu w przestrzeni społeczno-obyczajowej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem sytuacji młodych ludzi poddanych przemocy przesądów i naciskom finansowym. Trzeci wymiar analizy obejmuje strategie wolności odautorskiej, wyrażające się w przyjemności pisania i jego autoterapeutycznej funkcji oraz wybranych zabiegach podtrzymujących więź z czytelnikiem. Bowiem to właśnie czytelnik jest tu traktowany jako niejawny, ale niezwykle ważny bohater prozy Wilkońskiej.
    The main subject of this article is the several ways in which the motif of freedom, or the lack of it, is made present in the novels of Paulina Wilkońska, a representative of the 19th-century popular literature. The issue is discussed in relation to three aspects. The first is related to the thematization of the desire for freedom and the experience of national bondage. The second issue concerns the limitations of subjectivity in the social space, with particular attention to the situation of young people, enslaved by prejudices and financial pressures. The third dimension of the analysis includes strategies of authorial freedom, expressed in the pleasure of writing and its self-therapeutic function, as well as selected treatments that sustain the bond with the reader. For it is the reader who is treated here as the implicit but extremely important protagonist of Wilkońska's fiction.

    The article relates to compounds of happiness with the literature, its purpose is to answer the question: what and why can literature talk about happiness? Different directions in literary studies occupy different positions to the values contained in the literary work. There is also no consensus as to whether it is the bearer of aesthetic func-tion. The author starts from the aesthetic function, which sees the only way to fulfill the value in the literary work to the reflection on the aesthetic value to propose a theoretical model of happiness in the literature. This model is based on the structural aesthetic by Jan Mukařovský, whose works are its theoretical foundations. In this connec-tion the two modes for its practice: evoking and showing, that explains an example of ‘Szczęśliwe drogi’ by K. K. Baczyński. Consideration sends attention to the impact on the valuation of happiness evoking literary work.

    The question we are dealing with in the paper is as follows: to what extent might the notion of “religious literature” be functional if applied both to the early modern literature and to the contemporary literary culture? Does it mean “sacred literature”, simply opposed to the “secular” one, whatever it might mean? The author’s suggestion is to use the notion of “religious literature” more consistently, strictly according to the liturgical functions of the text (e.g. the prayers, hymns or homiletics) while the term “sacred literature” should be used regarding only the so-called “Sacred Books” i.e. the Revelation recognized in a given religious system. The sense of the term “pious literature” or “pious poet” however would be much broader, crossing the limitations of religious functions of the text and reflecting a quasi-prophetic intellectual and moral status of the writer.
