Opis:
Clive S. Lewis is thought to be one of the most important contemporary Christian apologist. In his works, Lewis argued against naturalism and put forward arguments in support of theism. In doing so, he referred to experience and made use of laws of logic and probabilistic reasoning, hence meeting rationality criteria. Part I discusses Lewis’s arguments from the existence of morality, reason, desires and numinous experiences. It presents a basal criticism of these arguments. Except of the ptresentation of those arguments and their analysis the aim of the paper is to provide a basis for a comparison (in Part II) of the anti-naturalistic arguments with what Lewis wrote about God, faith and life after death in the period following the passing of his wife, a great loss for the thinker.

If we want to describe the surrounding reality, while at the same time trying to grasp the best key to it, it seems that the word “change” is the most appropriate. Museums rank among that category of culture institutions which, while undergoing changes, and caring for their own institutional and axiological autonomy, attempt at the same time to influence the very changes; this, however, makes them face identity dilemmas, the necessity to find the right balance between the responsibilities that are sometimes referred to as “traditional ones”, namely the ones they have towards the collections, and the obligations commonly regarded to be an attribute of “modernity”, these towards the public in the variety of their impressive turnout growth and the increase of their expectations. The way to stabilize change effects, while at the same to stimulate them, also with respect to the closest editing of the museum Annual, are legislative efforts and bills. One could even be tempted to make the statement, this not fully irony-free, that the history of Polish museology is actually the history of implemented and unimplemented legislative projects (the latter dominating), of the attempts to define the position of museums in the context of the synergically perceived “cultural legacy”, of finding for them the appropriate governance model, without rejecting the above-mentioned identity dilemmas. The goal of the “Muzealnictwo” Annual No. 60 is to present an overview of the past and current trials to amend the “Museum Act”, to identify areas for essential corrections, reasons for negligence, yet first and foremost, difficulties in applying them to the culture domain in which the most frequently applied word next to “change” (and most highly appreciated by museum circles) is the word “specificity”. This overview will hopefully contribute to the reflection on the capacity of institutional operating under the circumstances in which the inadequacy between the letter of the law and its enforcement can be observed. Next to the theme that is key to the present issue of the “Muzealnictwo” Annual, you will find the well established and known sections describing the spheres of museum operations, these occurring regardless of the lapse of time and their legislative creations. This year’s issue is at the same time the last one whose preparation was contributed to by Dariusz Kacprzak PhD, since 2009 member of the Editorial Board of the ‘Muzealnictwo’ Annual, and since the National Institute for Museums and Public Collections became its Publisher, he has been Deputy Editor-in-Chief. Opis:
Poland, by 2020 430,000 Mg of hazardous waste will be formed annually by the combustion of waste. This waste must be properly managed so as not to endanger the environment. One promising way to manage selected waste is to process it in the synthesis of materials characterised by sorption properties. The results presented in this paper concern the possibility of producing sorbents from waste materials marked with codes 190112 and 190114, which came from two waste incineration plants in Poland. Alkaline activation was performed using two methods: a) hydrothermal, in a solution of 8 M NaOH at 75°C for 24 h; and b) in an autoclave, using a solution of 2 M NaOH at 140°C for 6 h. XRD analyses led to the identification of materials after synthesis of the following zeolite phases: analcime, chabazite and thomsonite. chabazite and analcime can be valuable absorbent materials.

The author attempts to define the genological structure of Stories from a Pocket and Stories from Another Pocket by Karel Čapek. The analysis of titles and content of stories leads to the conclusion that in search of a way to disseminate culture, to create popular literature, however with high artistic values, by applying his own invention the Czech author went far beyond mere replication of detective and criminal novel patterns commonly used in Euro-Atlantic culture. His ingenuity in the “genre instrumentation” of these short detective and criminal stories was remarkable and produced great results.

Freedom from fear is one of the four freedoms (along with freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want) that President Franklin D. Roosevelt presented first to the US Congress on 6 January 1941, and later to the entire world in the fight against Germany, Italy and Japan. They covered all areas of human life, guaranteeing security in the private and family spheres, in public life and in relations with other people and, above all, with any authority (especially the State). These freedoms became the basis of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, proclaimed on 10 December 1948, and other national and international documents. Freedom from fear has become a symbol of the protection of human rights and a guarantee of a safe life for every person everywhere in the world. The vast majority of conflicts in the world originate within national borders and their main victims are innocent civilians. States have a primary duty to protect everyone. They must create strong security instruments to prevent a repetition of the crimes of the Second World War. The quest for universal and individual security is constantly intertwined with new threats that grow with the development of civilisation, in particular through the evolution of technology and information. Today, we are also confronted with various aggressors - bandit states, cruel terrorists and populist governments on the verge of enslavement and incitement to violence. Education, cooperation, human rights and shared responsibility for others build respect for every human being - not only fellow citizens, but other people from distant parts of the global village. This shared responsibility began in the Congress of the United States of America on 6 January 1941.

Education is a meritocratic determinant which is perceived as a means to go ahead: the higher one’s education is, the higher one’s social status and income is (or should be). The literature in the field is limited in viewing education abroad as a way of accumulating human capital and valorising on the host labour market to gain an international career. However, education (abroad) can also entail life experiences and travel and a ‘second chance’ at success, where a decision about education abroad is not solely made for the sake of education but is also influenced by other social and political factors. This article sheds light on the different meanings and use of education (abroad) by high-skilled Azerbaijanis who migrate to Poland. Preliminary findings from biographical narrative interviews demonstrate that the meanings of education are more complex, with no single narrative. Pre-migration education is highly emphasised by both the internal and the external environment. Yet, within the migratory trajectory, education is utilised for different purposes, including as a motive for an ‘escape from’ troubles and conflicts in Azerbaijan. This takes place against the backdrop of the specifics of the Polish labour market accompanied by economic growth and facilitating policies, as well as the efforts of migrants to maintain their social class, while trying to outsmart institutional mechanisms in Poland.

After World War II the new socialist system influenced not only on social and economic life, but also on penal law. Earlier theories on causes of crime and on legal measures of combating the crimes were reviewed. The punishments, including the penalty of deprivation of liberty, were supposed to play correctional and educational role. According to this theory, the system of prison organization was based on education of prisoners and on preparing them for future honest life. One of the most important measures was employment of prisoners. After the war the state needed workers and the state officials decided to use prisoners as a labour force. The motivation to make them work harder was very simple: the chance for conditional release from serving full sentence. Act from October 31, 1951 on conditional release from serving full sentence has introduced so called obligatory conditional release to Polish legal system. If you worked hard and you were more productive than the average, you could be released when you worked in this way for more than half time of your sentence. This solution was criticized by the doctrine and in 1957, after the fall of Stalinism, a new act was passed. It was based on modern solutions, different from those applied in the 1951 act.

There were done simulations of fuels consumption in the system of electrical energy and heat production based on modernised GTD-350 turbine engine with the use of OGLST programme. In intention the system based on GTD-350 engine could be multifuel system which utilise post-fying vegetable oil, micronised biomass, sludge, RDF and fossil fuels as backup fuels. These fuels have broad spectrum of LHV fuel value from 6 (10 6 J•kg -1 ) (e.g. for sludge) to 46 (10 6 J•kg-1) (for a fuel equivalent with similar LHV as propan) and were simulations scope. Simulation results showed non linear dependence in the form of power function between unitary fuel mass consumption of simulated engine GTD-350 needed to production of 1 kWh electrical energy and LHV fuel value (10 6 J•kg -1). In this dependence a constant 14.648 found in simulations was multiplied by LHV raised to power - 0.875. The R2 determination coefficient between data and determined function was 0.9985. Unitary fuel mass consumption varied from 2.911 (kg•10 -3•W -1•h -1) for 6 (10 6 J•kg -1) LHV to 0.502 (kg•10 -3 •W -1 •h -1) for 46 (10 6 J•kg -1) LHV. There was assumed 7,000 (h) work time per year and calculated fuels consumption for this time. Results varied from 4,311.19 (10 3 kg) for a fuel with 6 (10 6 J•kg -1) LHV to 743.46 (10 3 kg) for a fuel with 46 (10 6 J•kg -1) LHV. The system could use fuels mix and could be placed in containers and moved between biomass wastes storages placed in many different places located on rural areas or local communities.

All plants based on combustion of the fuel generate a large number of flue gases, which contain variety of pollutants. These include particulates, heavy metals (Hg, Cd, Tl, As, Ni, Pb), carbon compounds (CO, hydrocarbons (VOCs), (PCDD / F, PCB), acid and other gases (HCl, HF, HBr, HI, SO2 , NOx , NH3 ), whose emissions are controlled, and subjected to the European and regional limits. In municipal waste-to-energy plants large diversity of fuel results in a considerable concentration of the individual compounds which can be dangerous for the environment. Due to these facts, it is necessary to take into account a flue gas cleaning stage in every waste-to-energy plant. The article divided into two parts shows technologies and processes that can be used at this stage. It describes methods used to deal with all kinds of pollutants at flue gases treatment stage. The paper presents emission limits imposed by the European Union with examples of emissions at working municipal waste-to-energy plants, and the limits that are to be expected in the future. Some topics, as costs and residual handling, are only briefly mentioned and for more information a reader is advised to use literature which will allow him to learn more about technology, processes and problems presented in the text. The aim of the study is to present the current state of flue gas cleaning in Waste-to-Energy plants.

Opis:
Solid-phase extraction (SPE) is simple and inexpensive sample preparation procedure which can be applied for the isolation/fractionation of essential oil compounds from wide variety of samples, such as foodstuffs, biological and environmental. Due to the complex nature of the examined matrices and frequently low concentration level of target components, analytical procedures require the use of initial sample preparation stage. The paper shows the possibility of essential oil components fractionation from different plant materials using SPE method. The results presented in this paper shows that the proposed SPE procedure allows for easy and total fractionation of essential oil constituents (especially low-molecular oxygen compounds) from the sample matrix.

Artykuł dotyczy historii pierwszego na Pomorzu Gdańskim klasztoru augustiańskiego. Do Swornegaci augustianie zostali sprowadzeni za sprawą żony Mściwoja II Judyty saskiej około 1255 roku. Szybko weszli w posiadanie Nechoru, Zwierzyńca, Łowiszowej Dąbrowy i czterech jezior położonych niedaleko Swornegaci. Dzieje klasztoru swornegackiego stanowią interesujący problem badawczy, który do tej pory nie doczekał się osobnej monografii.
The paper deals with history of the firs-in-Gdańsk Pomerania Augustine monastery. Augustine monks were brought to Swornegacie following efforts by Msciwoj’s wife, Judith, around 1255. They quickly came into possession of Nechor, Zwierzyniec, Łowiszowa Dąbrowa and four lakes situated near Swornegacie. The history of the monastery constitutes an interesting issue to investigate, which has not been written in a separate manuscript.

This article is entirely devoted to the issue of discharge from ser-vice in the Police under Article 41(1)(1) of the Police Act. Exemption on this legal basis requires that a medical committee must issue a medical certifi cate to the police offi cer, which states that he/she is totally incapable of serving in the Police. This must be a fi nal decision. Issuing a fi nal ruling requires the superior in charge of personal matters to discharge the police offi cer from offi cial duties in the Police, before he/she is dismissed from service. During the period of dismissal from offi cial duties, the police offi cer retains the right to full salary despite not performing service duties.

Fado from Coimbra and World Heritage On 27 November 2011 fado – a traditional Portuguese music – was added to the World Site of Intangible Heritage UNESCO, which provided an opportunity to create this article. The following publication presents a history and origin of fado: the meaning of its name and its linguistic provenience. Article shows roots of this genre of music – its evolution from an African dance lundum to another called “fado”; its migration from Brazil to Portugal; its turning into a song full of melancholy and longing. The sense of Portuguese’s beloved word “saudade” is being explained, as well as the variations of fado music that have led it to the concert halls in the 21st century. The article, farther more, describes two common variations of this kind of music, i.e. fado from Coimbra and fado from Lisbon, concentrating on main differences, such as their subject matter, structure of pieces, key and manner of performance, the source of which can be found in their origin. The text considers whether “fado” is a proper name of a song of Coimbra, or not. The aim of the article is to introduce a dispute about the “real” fado, that has been going on between followers of both trends for years and to answer a question why the fado from Lisbon was added to the UNESCO list.

The magical function, understood as all symptoms of rituality, is dichotomously realized inSinodik from Wojnowo: (1) in calls to perform the ritual of “remembering the dead”, (2) indefining rules for this ritual. Both directions are realized verbally and nonverbally. The book isboth a nonverbal call as well as a tool to perform the call. In Sinodik, verbal encouragement topray is also present. The text of Sinodik is a collection of rules and rights to perform the ritual, i.e.a verbal and nonverbal behaviour of those who pray. The multi-ring Popigai structure formed in the crystalline rocks of sub-polar Siberia is the largest one in the Asia territory. The complexity of its structure, the weak erosion and numerous, deep geological drillings determine its uniqueness when compared to the rocks found in Chicxulub, Vredefort and Sudbury. Shocked rocks, mainly gneisses, have fluidal texture, heavily brecciated garnets and opaque minerals. The presence of high- and low-temperature impact melt breccia types called tagamites have been described from the crater. Breccias of suevite express variability from low-glassy types to highly porous structures similar to tuffisites. The part of melts or glasses with vesicles, crystallites and clasts can be interpreted as pseudotachylite. Mineral globules and corroded clasts can be found in impactites. Feldspars are transformed into maskelynite, and quartz into lechatelierite. Sometimes quartz shows the ballen structure and has nebulous contacts. Graphite, ilmenite, and pyrite are dispersed in tagamites. The secondary mineralization of zeolites occurred in vesicles.

In the past years, Poland has been not only a country of (mass) immigration but also a country where foreigners have begun to play a much larger role in the domestic labour market than ever before. This makes the analyses of foreigners’ integration increasingly important both to understand the situation of immigrants in Poland and their impact on the national economy and social processes. In this context, this article aims to quantify one of the dimensions of the economic integration of immigrants. We look at the level of earnings as one of the indicators of their integration process. Additionally, we refer to the impact of social capital (in the form of migrant networks) on the economic situation of immigrants. We focus on immigrants from Ukraine—the most numerous group of foreigners in Poland. Based on a unique data set, we empirically identify the key dimensions that have an impact on their incomes, including gender, employment sector and legal status. We also point to the statistically significant effects of migrant networks on migrants’ earnings.

Jerome’s meeting with Pelagius could be chance for them, but unfortunately – missed this chance. Saint Jerome shaped by idea of the West theology, but deeply fascinated by East. While Pelagius – too far in his vision of human nature optimistic had strayed into. He became disillusioned with this many people together and instead of typing the current orthodoxy, always will be associated with the heterodoxy. A way of looking at the world and the life environment have an impact on the asceticism Jerome and Pelagius. Jerome’s asceticism was based on the allegorical reading and meditation of the Holy Scriptures, while Pelagius represented the moralistic approach to Bible and Christian life. Jerome postulated the way of Christian pilgrimage to God, where faithful tackling weaknesses by the grace of God and ascetic practice. The good Christian by Jerome should imitate Christ, by honest work, prayer and ascetic practice, consequently – the choice of monastic life. Pelagius the purpose of life – proclaim the glory of God, understood as performing good deeds and practical morality. He wasn’t a Christian understanding of prayer, in exchange for that – he put great emphasis on the obligation to give away all the goods, as a fundamental human ethical excellence. Pelagius postulated already in earthly the community a believer with God, but conditioned by moral perfection.

The article presents a parametric method applicable in assessing the suction force of a slender body to the seabed, and prognosing the body extrication time. Along with the body weight in water, the information on the suction force is essential for assessing the force needed to lift the object from the seabed. Based on the Foda theory and the resulting integral equation, which relates the maximum suction force with basic parameters of the issue of concern, the parametric method has been developed which can be widely applied in engineering practice of lifting objects. A set of discrete values of parameters selected from the range of typical values for engineering practice was the basis for developing algebraic formulas approximating the integral Foda equation for slender bodies. The included results of tests present the variability of suction force characteristics and the envelopes of maximum forces needed to extricate the body from the seabed.

In the long passage of De abstinentia, IV, 2–18, Porphyry mentions a series of “groups” (ἔθνη) as examples of abstinence from animal food: the ancient Greeks of the “golden age”, the Lacedaemonians of Lycurgus’ era, the Egyptian priests, the Essenes among the Jews, the Magi among the Persians and the gymnosophists among the Indians. Such an association does not seem at all accidental, since Porphyry refers to a tradition in which these communities have similar habits of life, including the prohibition of eating meat and drinking wine, sexual abstinence, absence of diseases and wars, separation from the civil sphere, devotion to the sacred. All these elements constitute the specific connotation of a human existence that evokes the “time of the origins”, substantially a paradisiac dimension, far from history. It is a deliberate symbolic shift. This brief research will investigate the reasons and the deep meaning of the connection based on utopian life traits.

The paper focuses on emergencies in a particular region of the Slovak Republic. The focus is mainly on describing the emergencies to which the region is most vulnerable and classifying them, as well as specific locations or businesses where there is a high risk of an emergency occurring. From the point of view of the effects of possible emergencies on the district of Bratislava, the most likely situations are natural disasters (floods from precipitation and watercourses, hailstorms, storms, landslides, ice) and accidents (fires, explosions and releases of dangerous substances). When planning rescue work, it is necessary to start from the worst-case scenario of the emergency, while the most important measure to protect the population is issuing warnings and possible evacuation. Special attention should be paid to the following measures: checking the safety measures around hydrological structures and watercourses, carrying out checks on legal entities and natural persons – entrepreneurs who manufacture, store and handle hazardous substances, preparing controlling organizations, forces and resources to carry out rescue work, preparing the population for self-protection and mutual assistance in the event of emergencies, mutual cooperation of rescue teams in preparation for emergencies, exchange of experience and knowledge with neighbouring districts.

The article discusses the research on CO2 emissions at the stage of electric engine vehicle operation. The operation stage includes, among others use of the vehicle as well as maintenance and charging for the vehicle’s propulsion. The origin of the electricity consumed during charging has an impact on the vehicle’s emissions balance. The scope of considerations concerns coal as the main energy carrier in Poland. The obtained results can be a benchmark for comparing other primary energy sources used for electricity production. Based on the collected technical data of electric cars, the values of CO2 emission factors from electricity production in thermal power plants and data on the state and structure of electricity production in Poland, an analysis of CO2 emissions from electric vehicles in the operational stage was performed. The vehicle’s electricity consumption of 0.14–0.16 kWh/km is accompanied by CO2 emissions of 100.94–115.36 g/km. The calculated CO2 exceeds the EU limit value from 01/01/2020 (95 g/km) for average CO2 emissions from new passenger vehicles. The main message of the work is the statement that increasing the efficiency of the electricity generation process in commercial thermal power plants in Poland will translate into a reduction in the emission of electric cars consuming this energy for propulsion. The research shows that the change in the efficiency of energy transformations in a thermal power plant from 38% to 46% leads to a reduction in the emission of an electric vehicle by over 17%. The emission of CO2 from a passenger car with a compression-ignition engine is discussed. The considerations include the stage of the use of the vehicle and the stage of production of diesel oil, which is consumed during the use of the vehicle.

In these remarks I make the attempt to present the issue of the relation between the scientific knowledge and religious faith. It is being discussed since many centuries. In the Middle Ages it was also called the “two truths”. Nowadays it is called however as the two magisteria. The name had been proposed by the American evultionary biologist Stephen J. Gould. In his proposition it is linked to the NOMA (Non-Overlapping Magisteria) principle. It met with critique from the side of those scholars who, just as Richard Dawkins, share the view that there’s only one magisteria and it is made by science with no space for religious faith. Reservations had also been made by those scholars who, just as Andrew Newberg, do agree on the existence of two magisteria, but they should  complete each other and they are convinced that with the passing of time they will do so. I have critical remarks on both of those two views. I see however the positive side of the intentions of Gould and Newberg.

This article assesses the situation of forced migrants from Ukraine in European countries. I use data from the Statistical Bureaux and sociological institutions of Ukraine and recipient countries and from international organisations. Semi-structured interviews with experts were conducted in order to expand the information base of the research and obtain more substantiated analytical results and the trends of forced migration from Ukraine since 24 February 2022 were investigated. An attempt was made to explain the difference between the data from various sources regarding the migration of Ukrainians caused by the Russian war against Ukraine. The hierarchy of problems of forced migrants from Ukraine is determined on the base of in-depth interviews of experts. An attempt was made to estimate the impact of the forced migration of Ukrainians on local markets of goods and services. The recommendations for minimising the irreversible migration losses of the population of Ukraine are developed.

Research background: Today's world is torn between extreme conservatism and duality, in opposition, trying to break the classical framework of freedom in the movement of people. In the context of complex global relations, this impulse, especially related to the travels for tourism purposes, raises new issues concerning the safety and security. The tourism industry has a priority for the economic development of many countries in the world and is a large source of export earnings and, at the same time, an important factor in the balance of payments of a significant part of the national economies in the world. The growing importance of the tourism industry, however, puts tourist destinations worldwide at the forefront of new challenges, one of which is terrorism. In this environment, new relationships are emerging and this reflects on the development strategies, as well as on the financial outcomes of tourism industry which are also largely affected. Purpose of the article: Respecting the new realities, the study explores the link between the risk of terrorism and the revenues from international tourism. Its main purpose is to investigate the impact of terrorism on the financial revenues from tourism in the European countries and the United States. The research is deter-mined by the perception that the financial flows from the international tourism are the quantitative manifestation of the hidden effects of the terrorism. Methods: The research method includes a regression cross-section analysis and Granger Causality test. The survey is panel and includes 37 countries from Europe tourism region and the United States from Americas' tourism region (according UNWTO) for the period 2012?2017. Findings & Value added: In conclusion, the effects of terrorism on the studied regions have been summarized, establishing dependence between terrorism and tourism, which illustrates a specific creative-destructive reflections of terrorism on tourism with regions particularities.

Jakub from Paradyż devoted his life to science. He perceived the value of these teachings that teach proper life and directed his writings to a wide range of recipients. The intellectual values that characterized this outstanding philosopher were recorded in about 150 treaties, sermons and lectures. Acts of sixty martyrs of Gaza is a Latin translation of the original text, describing conquest of Gaza and martyrology of Christian soldiers who died in name of Christian faith. There is little information describing capture of the garrison in VIIth century, thus the passion of Gaza martyrs is one of the few sources describing that event, allowing us to recreate the dramatic turn of events back then. It also describes Muslims attitude toward Christians in the middle east. The Author tries to identify the anonymous soldiers of Gaza Garrison who later gave their lives at the hands of Muslim conquerors because of they refuse to abandon Christianity.

This paper is devoted to the issue of mood of parents of children suffering from cerebral palsy in relation to the characteristics of child (mental retardation and form of the disease) and sociodemographic variables (age, gender, abode and level of education) of parents. The results shows that examined mothers feel higher activity, vigor than fathers. The results show also that the mood of the parents is partly depend on their gender, level of education and form of child’s disease. Paper presents also theoretical issues associated with mood of parents and the results of previous studies on that problem.

The paper is a report from anthropological fieldwork research carried out in Canada between March and September of 2014. My aim was to recognize the shape and content of social and cultural memory of Ukrainian Canadians, born in Poland, who emigrated to Canada in 1980s. They live in Edmonton and Toronto among other members of Ukrainian diaspora: descendants of Alberta pioneers, interwar period immigrants, displaced persons, Ukrainians from Ukraine and former Yugoslavia. Their memories concerning local Ukrainian history in Poland encounters institutionalized, well designed project of Ukrainian cultural memory in Canada. Actual situation in Ukraine (Euromaydan, Crimea annexation, civil war in the Donbas region) updates the memory and identity questions of Ukrainian diaspora in Canada in general and makes answers even more complicated for the Ukrainians born in Poland.

The aim of the study was to determine fluoride content in sand from sandboxes in Police town (West Pomerania, Poland). This area is exposed to excessive emissions of fluoride compounds because of the proximity of chemical plants. The sand samples were collected five times in a period from March to November in 2016. Fluoride content was determined using the potentiometric method with an ion-selective fluoride electrode. The obtained results showed that fluoride content was ranged from 0.09 to 1.48 mg·kg-1 dm. The lowest fluoride content was recorded in the sand collected in place, which was the closest to the emitter, and the largest in the samples from sandbox, which was furthest from the emitter. Analyzing the changes in the content of this element over time, the largest fluoride concentration of sand occurred in July or September depending on location. Pearson correlation coefficient at p < 0.05 (r = 0.925) showed a significant positive correlation between fluoride content and the distance from fluoride emitter.

In the event of carrying out the execution of remuneration for work, specific obligations imposed on the debtor’s employer. Because he is obliged to make appropriate deductions from the employee’s salary and transfer the amounts withheld enforcement authority, where his role is to determine the correct amount, which is to serve the satisfaction of creditor. At the same time the employer may be liable for irregularities in this area – both the creditor – if it turns out that due to the action of the employer was unsatisfied creditor, as well as the terms of an employee ‒ if it wrongfully depleted. Therefore, of particular importance to establish a remuneration components, which may be the subject of deductions, as well as the use of proper methods of deduction. Important, therefore, it seems to indicate the correct relationship between the provisions of the Code of Civil Procedure on enforcement of wage and labor laws.

The article concerns opinions on Poles evacuated from Donbass in 2015. To bring the above matter closer, press articles available online have been reviewed, and Internet users’ comments posted under them analyzed. Some of them strongly opposed the admission of refugees from eastern Ukraine and accepting them to their local communities. Defining them as refugees, they refused to help them, for example in providing housing while the indigenous people have to wait for years for the allocation of a communal flat. They also questioned the Polish nationality of the arrivals. Other comments were of quite the opposite nature. They expressed their conviction that the Polish state has obligations to Poles from the East and it should receive them, rather than migrants from other cultural backgrounds.

In this paper I present my own argument in support of the thesis that de dicto beliefs are, in at least one sense, more basic than de re beliefs. This argument rests on the fact of the progress of civilization, which appears, as I try to demonstrate, not to be possible without de dicto beliefs constituting a key part of the mental processes of the inventor. My argument is to counterweigh the force of Tyler Burge’s argument for the fundamentality of de re beliefs, leading to the conclusion that beliefs de re are a necessary condition of language understanding and having propositional attitudes at all (Burge 1977, p. 347-348). The first part of the paper is devoted to the examination of the structure of different versions of transcendental arguments – objective and subjective, the second part focuses on an analysis of Burge’s argument from language understanding, while the aim of the third part is to present the Reader with the argument from the progress of civilization. The exposition of the argument is followed by a discussion of certain possible objections which the argument may face.

The purpose of this article is to present the various professional paths of highly qualified female migrants from Ukraine and Belarus, the most numerous groups of foreigners from outside the EU in Poland. The analysis is based on in-depth interviews with highly qualified female specialists, i.e. migrants who started work relevant to their education and/or specialist knowledge and did not have experience of working in typical “migrant” sectors (service industry, agriculture, care work, etc.). This article also provides an overview of the Ukrainian and Belarusian migration to Poland after the fall of the USSR.

Human capital is a category that has been the subject of economists’ considerations for years. Numerous concepts, research approaches and various ways of classifying capital have appeared. Since the 1990s, in accordance with the fundamental principle of dualism, according to which capital is an abstract category, an alternative scientific research program has been conducted in the field of measuring human capital and fair wages. This program was initiated by M. Dobija and has been followed by a team of researchers from the Cracow University of Economics. The program in question is based on a proper understanding of the capital category. It has been consistently developing, and the scientific research covers a wide range of theories related to human capital and fair remuneration. The purpose of this study is to present the impact of capital from experience on the level of the fair remuneration of employees. The human capital model, in the presented considerations enables the measurement of employee qualifications in monetary units and a fair pay model. A case study on the impact from experience capital on the level of fair remuneration of employees was also presented.
Kapitał ludzki to kategoria, która od lat stanowi temat rozważań ekonomistów. Powstały liczne koncepcje, podejścia badawcze oraz różne sposoby klasyfikacji kapitału. Od lat 90. ubiegłego stulecia, w zgodzie z fundamentalną zasadą dualizmu według której kapitał stanowi kategorię abstrakcyjną, prowadzony jest alternatywny naukowy program badawczy w zakresie pomiaru kapitału ludzkiego i godziwych płac. Program ten zapoczątkował M. Dobija, a kontynuuje go zespół badaczy z UEK w Krakowie. Wspomniany program opiera się na właściwym rozumieniu kategorii kapitału. Prowadzone badania naukowe obejmują wiele teorii związanych z kapitałem ludzkim i godziwym wynagrodzeniem. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest przedstawienie wpływu kapitału z doświadczenia na wysokość godziwych wynagrodzeń pracowników. W tekście zaprezentowano model kapitału ludzkiego umożli-wiający pomiar kwalifikacji pracownika w jednostkach pieniężnych oraz model płacy godziwej. Przedstawiono również studium przypadku dotyczące wpływu kapitału z doświad-czenia na wysokość godziwych wynagrodzeń pracowników.

The paper analyzes the prospect of Greece exit know as “Grexit” from EU, whereas the Treaties have a specific legal regime on withdrawing – Article 50 TEU which was added to the Treaties by the Treaty of Lisbon. It confirms the possibility to leave the EU that many (but not all) legal observers believed existed beforehand. No fully-fledged Member State has in fact left the EU before or after the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon, although some parts of Member States have done so. Before the Treaty of Lisbon, this was accomplished by means of Treaty amendment. One of the important question is whether would it be possible for Greece to withdraw a notification to leave the EU? In the article an argument will be raised that other Member States and the EU institutions are arguably legally obliged to refuse debt relief for Greece, in accordance with the Treaties’ no bail-out rule.

The first decade of the 21st century saw a dynamic development in ATM networks. This was reflected in the growth of the number of ATMs and number of withdrawals. However, in the beginning of the second decade, a slowdown in the dynamic development of this part of the banking system has been observed in Poland. The signifi cant reduction of interchange (which is the main source of revenue for ATM network deployers) and growing availability of cashless payments tempered a further intensive development of these networks. Over the next 3 years, this regression was reflected in the declining number of withdrawals from ATMs and the insignificant growth of the number of ATMs. Therefore, ATM owners are forced to search for new solutions that could guarantee more profits. One way is the suitable choice of locations for new ATMs and removal of ATMs from non-profi table locations. In this paper, the authors have attempted to indicate the locations with the largest number of withdrawals on the basis of the number of withdrawals from the ATMs of the one of the largest ATM network deployers. The ATMs with the largest number of withdrawals are sources of the largest profits due to interchange. The authors have also indicated those locations where ATMs can be a source of losses.

Arthur Kronthal, who served as a member of the Poznań city council in the years 1906-1918, was the author of numerous contributions to the history of 19th century Poznań. Among others he was the author the text presented here, which appeared in 1911 in the monthly “Aus dem Posener Lande”. It is the oldest account of what later came to be called the Archdiocesan Museum in Poznań. This is the prehistoric part of the history of this institution.

Despite the abundance of studies of Polish migration to the UK immediately before and in the aftermath of accession to the EU in 2004, one fundamental question has never been clearly answered: why did so many Poles move to the UK? We have sought to provide general explanations, rather than inquiring into the range of observed diversity. We begin by putting together statistical and other data from both ends of the flow in order to assess the scale of movement to and from the UK and to determine the reasons for what may well have been the largest voluntary migration between two countries. We used data from both countries and especially the recently published statistics from the 2011 UK census to present a detailed picture of the characteristics of those involved. Polish statistics suggest a more ‘elite’ flow to the UK than to other countries. The UK census pictures a maturing settled population, still tending to occupy relatively lower skilled jobs but showing evidence of upward social mobility. The movements are particularly a response to demographic and economic factors in Poland and to a widespread but to some extent hidden shortage of labour in some sectors in the UK. These factors combine with a set of political circumstances in both countries to produce an explanatory framework that may be summarised as ‘right people, right place, and right circumstances.’

The analysis, based on a Polish national sample from 2006, aims to cast light on the regional variation in the effect of education on incomes. Building on the conceptual framework developed in the theory of human capital we investigate to what extent pay-offs for human capital differ across detailed administrative districts in Poland. By incorporating contextual characteristics, we examine how micro- and macro-level factors shape labour market outcomes. Our findings provide further support for the hypothesis that there is much regional variation in the influence of education on incomes, which suggests that there are better and worse places for the development of a meritocratic distribution of incomes. It appears that education pays more highly in more economically-developed regions, marked by a higher rate of occupational activity.

The article aims to present the linguistic means (stylistic methods and vocabulary) used by Henryk Sienkiewicz to create the image of European and American cities in his Listy z podróży do Ameryki. The author of the article also analyses the descriptions of experiencing large and modern cities, proving that the images of European and Americancities perceived and described from a European’s perspective were contrasted. It is the consequence of perceiving European agglomerations as cultural and historic centres cultivating traditional values in contrast to the mainly industrial American cities serving as trading centres full of action and fast-paced life. The choice of linguistic means used to describe urban buildings was determined by the viewpoint of the perceiving subject and the perspective from which the act of perceiving was accomplished.
