Opis:
The laboratory experiment was carried out in 2008-2009. It consisted of several series of measurements, which were designed to evaluate the effect of magnetized water on seeding value and growth of seedlings and the weight of selected plant species. The results confirmed a diverse reaction of assessed species seeds towards the type of water used. Mag¬netized water stimulated the seed germination of garden savory and rape, while had no effect on the seeds of yellow lupine. In case of the seeds of buckwheat, this parameter decreased under the influence of magnetized water in the first six days of the experiment. A beneficial effect of bio-stim¬ulation with magnetized water on the rate of growth of the aboveground parts of seedlings was recorded. The positive effect related to all species. The greatest stimulation was observed in buckwheat and garden savory. The use of magnetized water reduced the growth rate of roots at garden savory and buckwheat, while it increased the growth of winter rape roots. It had no effect in yellow lupine. The type of water exerted a significant influence on the fresh weight and roots of seedlings. Regardless of the assessed species, the use of magnetized water resulted in a significant increase in fresh weight and roots by 6% and 9%. No significant influence of the water type on dry matter of seedlings of analysed plant was assessed.

Opis:
We studied the effect of differentiated nitrogen-potassium fertilization upon the growth, yield and chemical composition of garden rocket leaves grown in unheated greenhouse in autumn. Two nitrogen doses were applied (0.3 and 0.6 g dm⁻³) in the form of calcium saltpeter and two doses of potassium (0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 g dm⁻³) in the form of chloride and sulfate. The increased amounts of nitrogen and potassium generally contributed to the increase of fresh leaf weight yield. Plants nourished with KCl had larger concentrations of L-ascorbic acid, chlorine and calcium, whereas the contents of protein, sugars in total, as well as sulfates were smaller, as compared to plants nourished with K₂SO₄.
Badano wpływ zróżnicowanego nawożenia azotowo-potasowego na wzrost, plon i skład chemiczny liści rokietty siewnej uprawianej w szklarni nieogrzewanej w okresie jesiennym. Zastosowano dwie dawki azotu (0,3 i 0,6 g dm⁻³) w formie saletry wapniowej oraz trzy dawki potasu (0,3; 0,6 i 0,9 g dm⁻³) w postaci chlorku potasu i siarczanu potasu. Zwiększanie ilości azotu i potasu przyczyniało się na ogół do zwiększania plonu świeżej masy liści. Rośliny żywione KCl charakteryzowały się większą koncentracją kwasu L-askorbinowego, chloru i wapnia, natomiast mniejszą zawartością białka, cukrów ogółem i siarczanów w porównaniu z roślinami żywionymi K₂SO₄.

Opis:
Dehydrins are proteins that play a role in the mechanism of drought tolerance. This study aimed at establishing dehydrin profile and accumulation in four local melon varieties of Iran: Mino, Dargazi, Saveii, and Semsori, as well as in a commercial variety Honeydew. Plants were treated with drought stress by adjusting the soil water content to 75, 50, 40, 30 and 20% of field capacity (FC) by withholding water. Water status of plants was monitored based on the seedling fresh weight (FW) and relative water content of leaves (RWC). Total protein content was extracted, then heat-stable protein (HSP) fraction was isolated for each variety and water stress treatment. After SDS-PAGE of HSP, Western blotting analysis was carried out with Anti-dehydrin rabbit (primary) and Goat anti rabbit (secondary) antibodies. ANOVA results showed that with decreasing FC below 75%, FW and RWC decreased, but these changes significantly varied among genotypes. On the basis of FW and RWC data under different drought stress treatments, the following drought-tolerant ranking was established: Mino > Dargazi > Saveii and Honeydew > Semsori, from tolerant to sensitive order. Results of Western blot analysis showed that expression of some proteins with molecular weights of 19– 52 kDa was induced in the studied varieties under drought stress (% FC). Expression level of the dehydrin proteins in different varieties was variable and also depending on the drought stress level applied. However, dehydrin proteins (45 and 50 kDa) showed strong expression levels in all varieties under severe drought stress (20% FC). The abundance of dehydrin proteins was higher in tolerant varieties (Mino and Dargazi) than in moderate and drought sensitive genotypes. Consequently, dehydrins represent a potential marker for selection of genotypes with enhanced drought tolerance.
