Opis:
Liberty and its distorted vision in the light of the documents of the Catholic Church One of the fundamental values in human life is freedom. In order to feel truly free, a lifelong process of education for freedom is needed, which presumes the existence of appropriate foundations and the necessity of the truth about man. The desire to be free is inscribed in the heart of man. The teachings of Catechism of the Catholic Church show that freedom is rooted in the mind and will of man with the possibility to act or not to act, to do something, therefore, to take voluntary action. The fundamental elements in the definition of freedom are external freedom and internal freedom. In the internal aspect, it is simply the power of an individual to make choices and decisions concerning the world of his own beliefs, views, etc. Freedom in this aspect refers to the internal autonomy of the person. The second is the external aspect called external or social freedom. It is choice of actions as part of mans everyday existence, undertaken within the framework of function- ing in society. The third fundamental element of Christian understanding of freedom is good. The core of freedom is not to do what man can do by nature, or do anything, because the real boundaries are defined by good. Man, as he was created with his freedom participating in the freedom of God, should not demand complete moral autonomy separated from the existential reference to the Creator. As a person, man has been blessed with intelligence and free will, and may therefore use these qualities to oppose his Creator claiming complete sovereignty. The problem with freedom of today’s man is frequently connected with the problem of sexuality. In a convenient way man wants to decide what is good and what is bad. He wants to decide how he will use his sexuality. It should also be said that man of- ten wants to use his sexuality and its attributes for narrow purposes, which are in apparent contradiction with the widely held beliefs.

Opis:
In April and July 1952 Brno and Prague were the scenes of show trials of alleged “agents in the service of the Vatican and the USA,” contrived by the Communist state security apparatus to dispose of opposition Catholic intellectuals and writers. The trials ended with one death penalty, one sentence of life imprisonment and long prison sentences of seven to twenty-five years. Those convicted included one of the most striking exponents of 1930s and 1940s modern Czech verse, Jan Zahradníček (1905–1960), who was jailed for thirteen years. In the extreme conditions of incarceration Zahradníček never stopped writing poetry, or rather reciting it to his fellow-inmates, who learned the poems by heart. On his release from prison under the general amnesty of May 1960 Zahradníček – in the five months of life left to him – reconstructed the poems. This essay focuses on the theopoetics of his prison poems which picked up on the main topic of his postwar poems (1946–1951): the crisis of man and the tragedy of a humanism without God. Zahradníček’s prison verse is typified by both its striking theopoetic dimension, arising out of the poet’s solidly Catholic faith and religious experience, and its anthropopoetic dimension: in other words, poetry being for man something fundamental, in certain circumstances vital to him and his survival, and affecting him in quite basic ways. It is a special form of freedom within one’s compressed self and a special form of intensified self-awareness. The poems of Zahradníček’s dark years behind bars are not only testament to religious experience in the extreme conditions of brutal totalitarian dictatorship, but also to the fact that under extreme conditions an aesthetic force becomes a force of aesthetic resistance, and to how this manifests itself.

Opis:
The revelation of the truth about God as Trinity has a direct impact on the identity and condition of the human person. Personhood implies relationship which is inseparably connected with ethos. This article examines the essence of the ethos of God, as He is understood in the Christian tradition, and the ethos of human person created in the image and likeness of God on the basis of the theological thought of the very famous Greek Orthodox religious thinker, Christos Yannaras (born in 1935). The truth that God acts in a personal manner is a very important presupposition for the understanding of the personal identity and ethos of human being. Solely in the relation to God Who is the Trinity of the Most Holy Persons our human ethos can be free from a deceptive vision of existential self-denial and individualistic ethics and morality.
