Opis:
The paper presents the method for the optimal synthesis of four-link mechanism generating open/closed paths with time prescription. Although the method is suitable for both closed and open paths, it enables decreasing the number of design parameters describing dimensions, orientation and position of a path generator. Compared to the methods presented in the references, this is a one-phase synthesis method; although the number of design parameters is reduced, the method does not require affine transformations to be performed on the synthesised mechanism. The effectiveness of the method is discussed based on examples of three paths, with two taken from the literature.

Opis:
The purpose of this work was to determine the influence of kinematic evidence, based on the trajectories of the instantaneous center of rotation (ICR) on the optimization of the functionality of selected prosthetic knee mechanisms. For the research 11 commercially used knees based on the articulated quadrilateral mechanism were used to visualize the operation of mechanisms with two methods: analytical and graphic. The generated paths were compared in terms of position changeability and shape. It was found that depending on the position of the ICR related to the axes of the mechanism, prosthetic knees obtained different level of stability and energy expenditure. The results have also shown that ICR point position and shapes of its trajectories are variable for particular classes of mechanisms. An analysis of the obtained results suggests that manipulation of the position of the instantaneous center of rotation by a suitable design of the linkages length of the mechanism enable to achieve the desired features, corresponding to the real needs of patients.

Opis:
A large number of independent and interacting factors affect seating comfort such as seat shape, stability, lumbar support and seat height. Although many subjective comfort studies have been conducted, few of them considered seating comfort from its subassembly level. This paper analyzed the automotive seat cushion designed with geared four-bar linkage for the seat height adjustment. The operation torque and lift distance of this mechanism was investigated as 2 major comfort factors. Ten cushions with this kind of design in the market were compared and assessed.

Opis:
Purpose: We investigate the dependence of the kinematics of the human knee on its anatomy. The idea of describing the kinematics of the knee in the sagittal plane using four-bar linkage is almost as old as kinematics as an independent discipline. We start with a comparison of known four-bar linkage constructions. We then focus on the model by H. Nägerl which is applicable under form closure. Methods: We use geometry and analysis as the mathematical methods. The relevant geometrical parameters of the knee will be determined on the basis of the dimensions of the four-bar linkage. This leads to a system of nonlinear equations. Results: The four-bar linkage will be calculated from the limits of the constructively accessible parameters by means of a quadratic approximation. Conclusions: By adapting these requirements to the dimensions of the human knee, it will be possible to obtain valuable indications for the design of an endoprosthesis which imitates the kinematics of the natural knee.

Opis:
Existing commercial solutions of the CPM (Continuous Passive Motion) machines are described in the paper. Based on the analysis of existing solutions we present our conceptual solution to support the process of rehabilitation of the knee joint which is necessary after arthroscopic surgery. For a given novel structure we analyze and present proprietary algorithms and the computer application to simulate the operation of our PCM device. In addition, we suggest directions for further research.
