Opis:
Covering 133.7 mln ha of area, forests of Indonesia are an important part of world’s forest resources. In terms of size, they are one of the largest rainforest in the world. So far, 5014 tree species has been classified there. The dominant species include Shorea sp., Litsea sp., Dipterocarpus sp., Calophyllum sp., Eugenia spp., Payena sp., Vaticano sp. and Palaquium sp. Forest utilization model is based on the concessions, allowing for the commercial exploitation of forest resources. Since independence in 1945, forest utilization policy has changed many times. Not only administration was changing, but also the level of administrative authority, where the major decisions for forest policy were undertaken. All these changes significantly imprinted on the current situation in Indonesian forestry and lifestyle of people dependent on forests.

Opis:
The paper focuses on the needs of forest inventory i.e. the gathering and processing of data which support multifunctional forest utilization. Forest management levels become more and more sophisticated and the carried out measurements and forest data collection should concern all elements enabling integrated forest resource management, as well as effective, ergonomic and precise conduction of forest operations. Inventory should encompass forest floor vegetation, shrub layer and plantations of cultivated plants in forest areas, harvest of needle litter and needle drop, charring wood into charcoal, harvesting of fossils in forest areas, harvesting of medicinal, industrial, decorative and fruit−bearing forest plants, and edible forest mushrooms.

Opis:
The article presents the results of questionnaire survey, which aimed to determine social preferences in relation to running as a form of active leisure time in the forests. In 2016 the survey covered 346 people over 18 years of age. As a research tool we used an internet questionnaire, which included questions about such issues as: the frequency of running in the forest, the preferred season and the views on advantages and disadvantages of running in forest areas. The questionnaire was distributed via social media (eg Facebook) among people interested in running. Statistical analysis of the impact of personal characteristics (gender, age, place of residence) and experience in running on the respondent preferences was carried out using the chi−square test. Men dominated among the respondents. The majority were people aged 35−44 and urban residents. Over half of the respondents declared that they are doing athletic or recreational running for more than 4 years. Results show that forests in Poland are an attractive place for running. The most preferred season for running in the forest was summer and spring. Most respondents run in the forest several times a week. The most frequently mentioned advantages of running in the forest included: contact with nature, clean air, and landscape – pleasant environment. Subsequently, the respondents pointed to the lack of traffic control infrastructure, and lack or a small number of other recreational people. Among the disadvantages of running in the forest, respondents mentioned mainly: the presence of tick, hunters, and lack of clearly marked and illuminated routes. Other factors limiting the comfort of running in the forests were: uneven road surface or problems with phone connection. The results showed that the preferences varied significantly, mainly in terms of gender, age and experience in running. The age and experience of respondents have an influence on preferences regarding the frequency of running in forests. The preferences of the respondents referring to the advantages and disadvantages of running in the forests are different due to gender, age and number of years of their experience. The analysis of respondents’ preferences leads to the conclusion that for the development of running in forests, promoting the forest as a friendly running place, it is important to have appropriate recreational forest management, including, first of all, proper layout of forest road networks and their markings.

Opis:
The article presents the changes in the preferences of people vacationing in the forests of the Mazowiecki Landscape Park (MPK) in the years 2000−2012. The study covered the preferences for the frequency and duration of rest in the forest and the places and forms of recreation carried out in the MPK forests. These preferences were established on the basis of surveys conducted in the field. In 2000, a questionnaire was sent to 755 people vacationing in the MPK forests. In 2012, the survey covered 390 people vacationing within the MPK. In both cases, the survey involved people over 18 years of age. Preferences of respondents in both studies were compared using the chi−square independence test. The results showed that within twelve years the preferences of respondents in the frequency range of leisure, choice of the place and forms of recreation changed significantly. There was an increase in the number of respondents frequently utilising the MPK forests for recreation and leisure interested in areas equipped with appropriate recreational infrastructure. The share of respondents making such recreational activities in forests as horse riding, cycling and observing nature significantly increased, while the preferences for the duration of rest in the forest have not changed. Still, the MPK forests are primarily a place of the weekend rest. The results indicate that the preferences of recreational users of the forest are largely related to the scope of access to and management of the forest.

Opis:
In 2015, approximately 38.5 million m³ of round wood was harvested in Poland, and this volume is constantly growing. Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) occupies about 58.5% of the forest area in Poland and is the species of the most economic importance. Along with the changes in the timber market, mainly due to the development of technology for the harvesting and processing of wood raw materials, the consumers interest in stem wood has increased. The State Forests in Poland have developed their own system for timber volume calculation that is based on the measurement of the under−bark diameter at the thinner end of the log. The aim of the study was to evaluate the accuracy of three methods of determining the harvested timber volume: Huber's and Smalian's dendrometric formulas and the method currently used by the State Forests. The study was conducted in the Choczewo Forest District (N Poland). In total, 193 logs collected from five forest ranges and from two forest habitats (fresh mixed broadleaved and fresh mixed coniferous forest) were measured. The relative error calculated as the relative difference between log volume obtained by the dendrometric formula and the real volume determined with section−wise method was statistically analysed. Mean errors obtained with all tested methods of volume determination differ significantly from zero, which indicates the systematic error of volume determination. The greatest errors are generated by the method used by the State Forests. The volume obtained with this method is underestimated on average by over 14%.

Opis:
In the EU countries a forest management plan is a common, however not always obligatory, document updated every 10 years. According to the type of the forest property and its area it may differ in terms of the form and specifity. The forest management in Poland has a long history dating back to the end of 18th century. Nowadays, before each new decade, there is a discussion on the changes, which may improve the whole process of forest management and its final document. The aim of the paper is to present current legal determinants and selected problems, which occur in Poland as well as the major threads of the present discussion. The type of the forest property does not affect the principles of protection, extension of forest resources and forest economy. The protective function of forests requires its uniform consideration itself. On the other hand, the social and productive functions allow for different legal regulations within the State and private forests what results in different forms of the forest management plans. A well− −prepared forest management plan allows to maintain all the natural values of the multifunctional forest. It is also a basic source of information for the authorities, society, and other units, which collect data on forestry. The arrangement of the content of the forest management plans needs the consideration because they often include useless information. Moreover, there is also too much specific information. The protection of forest biodiversity causes the increase of costs for the forest economy, however the benefits are incommensurate to expenditure, since well−managed forest ecosystems provide a lot of social services. In order to show this relations the economical appendix (e.g. business plan) to the forest management plan should be prepared. It would enable to describe all the economical determinants of forest area. In view of Polish long tradition of forest management a great importance to the forest management plan is being still attached. On the other hand, some new environmental, climatic, political, social and economical conditions neces− sitate a verification of the rules of the regulation of forest utilization. Social expectations should be considered, especially in case of forest functions and the participation in selected stages of the process of the forest management plan preparation.

Opis:
Achievement of beneficial economic results of timber harvesting with the use of harvesters is greatly determined by appropriate organization of their operation. It is important to find the solutions that could maximally reduce the share of working day phases that are unconnected with production. The carried out simulation calculations enabled to determine the working time structure under most favourable conditions, without preparation of bases and making passages to them and under conditions similar to the real ones. The experiments were executed for various number of tasks; therefore, the effect of passages between bases on working day structure was investigated also. The obtained results showed a very strong effect of mentioned factors working day utilization. In most favourable conditions and 100 tasks, about 50% of total time is taken by operating time that is directly devoted to execution of tasks, while in less favourable conditions and 600 tasks only 5% of time is spent on timber harvesting with the machine; the remaining part of time can be regarded as the lost time.
Struktura wykorzystania czasu pracy harwestera w warunkach lasów polskich. Przeprowadzone obliczenia symulacyjne pozwoliły ustalić strukturę czasu pracy w najkorzystniejszych warunkach bez przygotowywania baz i przejazdów do nich oraz w warunkach zbliżonych do rzeczywistych.
