Opis:
The study presents the structure and floristic composition of mixed fir forest at the northern range limit of European silver fir (Abies alba) in Poland. Phytosociological data were collected in the forest reserve “Murowaniec”,which was established to protect mixed forest ecosystems with a large contribution of fir trees. Changes in floristic composition of these coniferous forests in the last 40 years were discussed. Protective measures are suggested in this paper, aiming at conservation of the forest ecosystems of the reserve.

Opis:
This work focused on the analysis of various gene expression-based cancer subtype classification approaches. Correctly classifying cancer subtypes is critical for understanding cancer pathophysiology and effectively treating cancer patients by using gene expression data to categorize cancer subtypes. When dealing with limited samples and high-dimensional biological data, most classifiers may suffer from overfitting and lower precision. The goal of this research is to develop a machine learning (ML) system capable of classifying human cancer subtypes based on gene expression data in cancer cells. These issues can be solved using ML algorithms such as Transductive Support Vector Machines (TSVM), Boosting Cascade Deep Forest (BCD Forest), Enhanced Neural Network Classifier (ENNC), Deep Flexible Neural Forest (DFN Forest), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and Cascade Flexible Neural Forest (CFN Forest). In inferring the benefits and rawbacks of these strategies, such as DFN Forest and CFN Forest, the findings are 95%.

Opis:
The forest development strategy is a hierarchical set of actions specifying the ways to achieve three mutually integrated objectives: principal (strategic), tactical and operational. The principal objectives are formulated in the forest development control process and relate to forests understood as a whole, are long−term and determined by the forest and ecological policy of the state. The tactical objectives are formulated in the forest management regulation process, are medium−term (10 years) and refer to forest estates or forest management units. The operational objectives are formulated in the forest management planning process, are short−term (annual) and relate to economic activities performed in individual stands.

Opis:
The study attempts to assess the strategic position of the forest service sector companies based on the SWOT method. Positioning of the company development was done on the example of 49 companies, which are providing services for the forest management in Poznań, Piła and Szczecin Regional State Forest Directorates (western Poland). Data that enabled the analysis was obtained by the usage of the questionnaire method. The structure analysis of the respondents from the point of view of points assigned to the investigated factors and assessments of these factors was performed. The results showed that the vast majority of companies that were participating in the research was on the average and aggressor developmental position. The internal factors such as ‘work experience of human resources', ‘machines technical quality' and external factor such as ‘forest services contract principle' were the most important for the forest companies owners. ‘Leasing of forest machines' and ‘opportunity for action as consortiums' are said to bring about strengths, while ‘purchase of machinery by the State Forest', ‘business ethics', ‘increase of fuel prices' and ‘new competing companies' are considered as the main threats.

Opis:
Purpose: The study aims to: (1) deepen the theory of defining new concepts such as relevant information and information needs, and (2) examine the essence of financial and non-financial information and its usefulness to forest stakeholders. The research problem was formulated as follows: “Since forest management entities generate and disclose financial and non-financial information, which of these sources of information will be considered most useful (relevant) by information users?” In the context of environmental and social challenges, accounting 5.0 must generate, report, and disclose information according to stakeholders’ expectations. Methodology/approach: The following methods were used: literature analysis and critique, document examination, logical analysis and construction, the Delphi method, and snowballing. The Pearson chi-square independence test and the Kruskal-Wallis test were used. Findings: The most important characteristics of information are reliability and timeliness. The most useful information for stakeholders includes forest maps and conservation information, a “forest dictionary”, and rules for timber sales. Information about campaigns, charitable actions, forest hazards, and forest access restrictions is useful. Research limitations: A limitation of the research is the national sample size of the survey, with a higher percentage of internal forest stakeholders than external stake-holders. Practical implications: The practical implications of the article are based on the collected research material, which can contribute to the development of a standard questionnaire for investigating the information needs of stakeholders in the future. Originality/value: The study is the first empirical research of its kind in Poland and involves the participation of foreign experts. Contributions to social science theory include: (1) an original definition of “relevant information”; (2) a definition of “information needs”; (3) comparative frameworks for the impact areas of the sustainable development concept in correlation with information, relevant information, and stake-holders; (4) a conceptual table of differences between types of information from a sustainability perspective.

Opis:
This paper presents the newly suggested long-term breeding strategy for Norway spruce in Lithuania to share with the optimisation approach, which may be useful in synchronising the long-term breeding and gene conservation plans in neighbouring regions. The breeding programme in Lithuania is at a stage where the long-term plans need to be developed. Our strategy is to proceed with a closed-nucleus breeding population which is structured into subpopulations according to adaptation zones (4-5 subpopulations). The size of each subpopulation is 50 unrelated and progeny-tested individuals. The breeding cycle consists of double- pair mating and a balanced within-family selection forward. The candidates will be clone-tested. Advanced genotypes will be selected into an advanced nucleus; an isolated foreign breeding population is planned. Positive assortative mating is used for deployment. An experimental "shuttle-breeding" strategy may be tested: selection with avery high intensity, controlled crosses, nursery tests for vigour and growth rhythm, cloning by hedges into short-rotation clonal plantations.
