Opis:
Eucalyptus globulus Labill is one of the most important economic forest species in Portugal, occupying an area of 875.10³ ha in a total forest area of 3346.10³ ha (Tomé et al., 2007). The main goal of this study is to develop a dominant height growth model for Eucalyptus, applicable throughout the country, representing an improve of the curves that are part of the whole stand model existing in Portugal, the GLOBULUS model (Tomé et al., 2001). The dominant height growth model will be built on a biological function formulated as a difference equation (Algebraic Difference Approach) to an all possible growth intervals data structure. The dynamic model proposed, obtains non biased and efficient estimates for the parameters. Comparing to the already available model, the last has the advantage of expressing the asymptote in weather variables functions, meaning that it is possible to reproduce the eucalyptus growth according to weather changes.

Paper presents results of measurement accuracy evaluation of two laser rangefinders (TruPulse and ForestPro integrated with MapStar compass) mounted on monopod and tripod under the forest conditions. The precise data on spatial coordinates of 34 trees in the Rogów Arboretum and 8 points from the geodetic control network in the Głuchów Forest were used. The results show that the measurement sets equipped with ForestPro and MapStar were more accurate than TruPulse ones. However, no significant influence of applied stands on the measurement accuracy was observed.

Opis:
The paper presents the history of approaches to forest management derived from the idea of forest sustainability, as well as its inspirational role in the formulation of the concept of sustainable development of forests. The promotion of this concept in forestry is the responsibility of forest management planning through the modification of forest management plans and adaptation of the principles of conducting forest management to changing realities. Changes in planning, both in terms of time and space, are necessary especially because of the reconsideration of the range and significance of forest functions. The development of the ‘normal forest’ model and management unit−level methods of forest planning was a key event in the history of forestry in Europe. The development of knowledge, as well as economic, technological and social changes were conducive to the emergence of new theories on the production intensification and to use the economic criteria for determining the rotation age. This also referred to the need to develop an appropriate forest structure to ensure the sustainable use of forest resources. As regards determination of the harvest level, the development of the stand−level method of forest management published by Judeich in 1871 is worth noting. Recent results of the research on forest habitat and productivity have revealed the problem of forest species composition and the importance of forest tending activities. Another group of research achievements cover the new systems of determining the allowable cut taking into account forest maturity and sustainability criteria. In the multiple−use forest model being implemented in Poland, forest utilization is to be treated as a realization of all forest functions expected by society. Accordingly, two functions of forest use can be distinguished − the temporary function aimed to satisfy the current demand for timber, and the strategic function to secure a relatively steady, long−term timber supply, as well as to improve the condition of forest resources. The idea of the modification of the principles of deter− mining the volume of harvest, meeting the set requirements, is a continuation of the above issues. The changes taking place in the conditions of the planning process in forestry over the last decades have caused its continuous extension in terms of range and interdisciplinary areas. The principles of forest use, renewal, tending and protection create a logical and chronological sequence of events showing the complexity of the problems that appear at the stage of planning and in the forest district practice. The current problem at the stage of forest planning is the effect of climate changes on forest ecosystems and possible measures to counteract them. When creating forest management plans, the adaptation activities related to forest management are gaining importance.

Artykuł przedstawia analizę stosowanych w  latach 2000–2009 regulacji planistycznych odnoszących sie do użytków rolnych i  leśnych na przykładzie Leszna – byłego ośrodka wojewódzkiego położonego w południowo-zachodniej części Wielkopolski.
The article presents an analysis of the planning regulations applied between the years of 2000–2009 for agriculture and forestry purposes on the example of Leszno – the former provincial centre located in the south-western part of the Wielkopolska Province. The selection of this particular research unit is justified by the high capacity of plant and animal production within the region as well as the necessity of maintaining the precious land and natural values of the town in good condition including the large area of protected forests. The evaluation of the implemented urban solutions was completed in two phases basing on the general biotic values of soil and trees as well as by using the term of spatial order with regards to the newly-designed buildings.

The principal objectives are formulated in the forest development control process and relate to forests understood as a whole, are long−term and determined by the forest and ecological policy of the state. The tactical objectives are formulated in the forest management regulation process, are medium−term (10 years) and refer to forest estates or forest management units. The operational objectives are formulated in the forest management planning process, are short−term (annual) and relate to economic activities performed in individual stands.

The adopted rotation age and prescribed cut are found not to be fully respected at any stage of regulation, planning and implementation of cutting plans. As a result, timber, the main crop in forestry, is not uniform in terms of rotation age and fails the adopted criteria of crop maturity. Protective forests are not subject to management unless cut determination derives from silvicultural needs, without specifying the criteria for these needs. The level of cuts subjectively determined by quality control inspectors is not respected in forest management practice and should be recommended for use in the forests administered by the State Forests.

Opis:
Forest managers conducting sustainable forest management are guided by the principles of sustainable use of natural resources, which involve the need for long and short-term planning in organizational units of the State Forests. Plans often differ from reality by the time individual treatments and cuts are to be performed. For economic reasons, it is important to optimize harvest planning, not only focusing on the volume of timber to be harvested, but also the price differences of individual tree species and sort types of wood. The purpose of this study was to present methods evaluating standing timber and to assess their usefulness in optimizing the harvest volume using linear programming. Stands designated to be cut were evaluated using transaction value methods, i.e. “the stumpage value method” M1, the “con- sumption value” method M2, as well as the net present value (NPV) method M3. The research material was obtained from the State Forests Information System (SILP) for the Marcule Forest District covering the years 2014–2018. The stand values were determined at the beginning and end of the 10-year planning period. We observed that the stand value (standing timber) differed significantly between method M2 as compared to method M1. The value of stands determined by method M3, on the other hand, decreased as the discount rate increased. In the process of optimizing the selection of stands for felling, economic criteria should also be taken into account and this is a direct measure of obtainable standing timber in terms of the cutting possibility in the given planning period. In stands where one species dominates, a simplified method of determining the value (M1) can be used, whereas in stands with significant species diversity, method M2 provides a significantly more accurate value for the cutting timber. Howe- ver, if harvest volume optimization using linear programming methods is to take longer time periods into account, e.g. 30 years (three 10-year economic planning periods), the most reasonable method for determining the value of stands is the net present value method M3.

This paper addresses problems associated with the silvicultural planning in the Norway spruce mire forests (Sphagno girgensohnii−Piceetum Polak. 1962) that are characterized by an uneven−aged structure and a high degree of irregularity at small scale. Based on detailed inventory using 30 permanent circular sample plots in two control units located in the Augustów Forest (NE Poland), the BDq method was employed for determining future silvicultural activities of the current forest management cycle. The equilibrium models are based on diameter distributions and have the following parameters, depending on site conditions: B=28 m²/ha; q−factor=1.32 and D=51 cm in the case of poorer forest site type (S.−P. typicum) and 55 cm more fertile one (S.−P. thelypteridetosum).
