Opis:
In recent years, titanium alloys and nickel alloys have become eminent for making aeronautic and astronautic parts. Since both nickel and titanium alloys have a very small thermal conductivity, the being used tool will suffer from huge damage by heat generated during the grinding process. Therefore, there is a requirement for a durable tool with excellent cooling capacity. In this research, the technology regarding the new forced cooling using with high-pressure coolant for machining difficult-to-machine material was developed and evaluated. A through-hole in the near the tip on the rake face of the turning tool is firstly machined by electrical discharge machining. High-pressure coolant was then supplied to the turning tool from the hole on the bottom of the tool. Several values of pressure were tried in many experiments. It is concluded from the results that; (1) a new forced cooling method in the form of drilling a hole at the tip of the tool from which supply high-pressure coolant, a tool temperature decrease and a tool-life prolongation could be achieved, (2) the technology could effectively cool near the tip of turning tool, (3) the chip was effectively broken by the high pressure, (4) It was confirmed that the tool cutting edge condition was stabilized, the surface roughness of the machined workpieces was improved, the tool hardness was maintained and the tool-life was prolonged due to the cooling effect of the devised tool.

Opis:
The aim of this paper was to analyse in depth the existing research on the effectiveness of forced cooling and the directions in its improvement and development against the background of the increasing needs of machine tools and machining processes. The forced cooling methods used and their importance from the point of view of the development of machine tools are discussed. A detailed review of the state of the art in this field, including the latest research reports, is carried out. The essence and methods of forced cooling parameters improvement through holistic modelling, numerical simulations and optimization are presented. Moreover, the currently achievable effectiveness of forced cooling is illustrated with the results of the research conducted by the authors. Finally, conclusions are drawn and suggestions concerning the future research in this field are put forward.

Opis:
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were proposed to ensure the well-being of everyone on earth, a purpose to which all the fields, including manufacturing, must contribute. However, although industry is implementing this laudable concept in a piecemeal fashion, it is currently unlikely to achieve all 169 targets in the 17 Goals by the SDG deadline of 2030. Therefore, qualitative and quantitative achievement indicators and effective evaluation methods are needed to achieve the 17 goals of the SDGs when developing industrial products. Therefore, in this study, the manufacturing in response to the 17 goals and the 169 targets of the SDGs is considered, and the application of the pentagonal W-ECO model for manufacturing based on the SDGs was proposed. First, the current situation of manufacturing was considered from an environmental perspective, which is also important for the SGDs. Secondly, product’s lifespan which is deeply related to the environment, was discussed in terms of the correlation between time, technology and environment, and "Re" technology was proposed to extend product's lifespan and save resources. Then three cases of development for environmental conservation were introduced to understand the current situation, and it was confirmed that the new technologies in the three cases can contribute to the achievement of SDGs, however the degree of their contribution couldn't be evaluated quantitatively. Finally, the previous three cases using the proposed pentagonal W-ECO model quantitatively evaluated and confirmed that the results of the evaluation provide a quantitative indicator for achieving the SDGs. As a result, the effectiveness of the pentagonal W-ECO model for manufacturing based on SDGs is evaluated.

Opis:
Purpose: of this paper was demonstration a novel technique of laser cladding by experimentally composed Co-based metallic powder and forced cooling of the substrate by liquid nitrogen under cryogenic conditions, at the temperature -190°C, for producing clad layers with enhanced microstructure characteristic and properties. Design/methodology/approach: Technological tests of laser cladding were conducted by means of a high power fibre laser HPFL with maximum output power 3.0 kW, and six-axis robot. The experimental Co-based powder was composed for providing high abrasive wear resistance, high resistance for impact load, and also for corrosion resistance at elevated temperature. The unique and novel technique of forced cooling of the substrate was provided by immersing the specimens in the liquid nitrogen bath. The three coaxial nozzle head was designed and custom made to provide precise deposition of the powder delivered into the laser beam irradiation region. The scope of the study included tests of conventional laser cladding at free cooling in ambient air in a wide range of processing parameters, and also trials of laser cladding under cryogenic conditions. The test clad layers produced by conventional laser cladding and by the novel technique of laser powder deposition under cryogenic conditions were investigated and compared. Findings: The obtained results indicate that the novel technique of forced cooling the substrate by liquid nitrogen bath provides lower penetration depth, as well as low dilution of the clad, and also provides higher hardness of the clads. Additionally, it is possible shaping the geometry of the individual bead, providing high reinforcement and low width. Research limitations/implications: The presented results are based just on preliminary test of the novel technique of laser cladding under cryogenic conditions. Therefore, further study and detailed analyse of the influence of the cooling rate on the quality, microstructure, and properties of the deposited coatings are required. Practical implications: The study is focused on practical application of the novel technique for manufacturing of wear resistance coatings characterised with enhanced performance compared to conventional range of application of the laser cladding. Originality/value: Novel technique of laser cladding at forced cooling under cryogenic conditions was demonstrated. The powder used for cladding trials was experimentally composed (not commercially available). The experimental stand custom made was used with custom made powder feeding rate, and also with custom made coaxial nozzle head.
