Opis:
The aim of our research is the identification of factors affecting labour force participation (LFP) in the EU in the years 1998-2007 with a specific focus made on family policies. We perform the analysis separately for men and women, taking into account differences in the LFP levels and patterns observable among age and country groups. Our main findings suggest that generally the family policies are relevant for the age groups 15-24 and 40-59 in determining their LFS, while less influential for the age group 25-39. Nevertheless, significant differences in the sign and the magnitude of the influence exist between specific policy instruments.

Opis:
The paper presents an experimental device that was created in order to obtain the real values of the forces acting in the vertical direction on the lock‑off element, the so‑called brake body, the 2nd design option. The lock of this design is used in the automated parking garage, designed by KOMA – Industry, s.r.o, to lock the parked vehicles on pallets in the units of the rack parking system. The forces acting in the vertical direction on the body of the fixation lock when pushing the brake pulley into the circular recess in the brake ramp are theoretically calculated for two design variants of the brake ramp used in practice, i.e. “without” and “with” a rounded (filleted) circular recess segment in the brake ramp. The experimentally determined forces acting in the vertical direction on the brake body were determined for two types of compression coil springs with a rectangular cross section of the spring wire.

Opis:
Comparison of several types of electrostatic microactuators is carried out, particularly with respect to their resultant force effects. The continuous mathematical model of such actuators is mostly described by the Laplace equation. In this paper, its numerical solution is performed by a fully adaptive higher-order finite element method, using a code developed by the authors. The methodology is illustrated with typical examples whose results are discussed.

Opis:
All ships experience an air and wind resistance while under way of sea, and they may experience adverse effects on wind while manoeuvring in harbours and limited waterways. The wind resistance is proportional to relative wind speed squared, wind direction and the projected windage area of the ship. The paper describes the effect of wind pressure into the ship’s superstructures and houses on ship manoeuvrability, in the range of the wind speed, for the ship which is with the large windage area. The above is one of the recommended information to be included in the ship’s manoeuvring booklet, as per IMO Resolution A.601(15). In sea practice, the manoeuvring characteristics in wind, as wind forces and moments, course-keeping limitation, and drifting under wind influence are fare from these estimated. The results obtained during the several years of practice in ship’s exploitation are included in this paper.
