Opis:
On the example of Central-Eastern Europe at the beginning of the XXI century, new trends in the positioning of regions are revealed. It is proved that in the era of globalization, the model of the borderland-region is replaced by the model of the fold-region. The features of the new regional form arerevealed. It is concluded that changes in the perception of the regional space determine regional socio-demographic processes – depopulation in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe

Opis:
Wydzielono i opisano 3 rodzaje osadów heterolitowych. Rozpoznano i udokumentowano również 15 struktur sedymentacyjnych, które zostaną wykorzystane do dalszej interpretacji warstw krośnieńskich w zakresie ich genezy. Kolejnym elementem zrealizowanym w pracy jest korelacja terenowego profilu litologicznego z zapisem i interpretacją profilowań geofizyki wiertniczej (wystandaryzowanych do jednostek fizycznych psAPI, petrofizyczny trójskładnikowy model matrycy) z otworów Gorlice-12 i Gorlice-13, przewiercających bezpośrednio badany interwał litostratygraficzny.
The main objective of this paper is to present documentation of the Krosno Beds facies in the southern limb of the Gorlice Fold, exposed in the Sękówka river bed, on the Gorlice–Sękowa section. On the basis of field work, a detailed lithological profile was compiled, taking into account sedimentary structures. The total true thickness of the profile is 1415 m. Eleven sedimentary facies (I-XI) are described, for which the depositional environment has not been interpreted at this stage of the research. Three types of heterolithic sediments were described. Fifteen sedimentary structures have been identified and documented, which will be used for future interpretation of the Krosno Beds sedimentary environment. Another element conducted in the study is the correlation of the lithological field profile with the well logs interpretation (standardized to psAPI physical units, evaluation of the petrophysical model) from the Gorlice-12 and Gorlice-13 boreholes directly drilling through the studied lithostratigraphic interval. All three profiles have been correlated with reference to the datum defined by the upper boundary of the Menilite Beds which is clearly identifiable both in the field and in the well logs. The adopted methodology made it possible to define 5 correlation boundaries (G1, G2, G3, G4, G5), based on the massive sandstones – facies VIII (boundaries G1, G2, G4, G5) and low-compact sandstones – facies IX (boundary G3). In addition, 5 auxiliary lines have been marked (P1, P2, P3, P4, P5) based on the similarities of the gamma well logs. The field profile was compared with its archival description, the results of which shows differences in the true thickness and the degree of lithological variability. The conducted research and the applied methodology may provide the basis for verifying the current state of knowledge on the Krosno Beds in a regional border area, where there are boreholes and field profile. They can be used for regional interpretations of facies variability and deposition environments.

Introduction. The aim of the study is the evaluation of the usefulness of High-Speed Digital Imaging (HSDI) in the diagnosis of organic dysphonia in a form of oedematous-hypertrophic changes of vocal fold mucosa, morphologically confirmed by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) method in patients working with voice occupationally. Material and methods. The group consisted of 30 patients working with voice occupationally with oedematous-hypertrophic changes of vocal fold mucosa. Parameters of vocal folds vibrations were evaluated using HSDI technique with a digital HS camera, HRES Endocam Richard Wolf GmbH. The image of vocal folds was recorded with a rate of 4000 frames per second. Postoperative material of the larynx was prepared in a routine way and observed in transmission electron microscope OPTON 900–PC. Results. HSDI technique allows to assess the real vibrations of vocal folds and determine many parameters. The results of TEM in the postoperative material showed destruction of epithelial cells with severe vacuolar degeneration, the enlargement of intercellular spaces and a large number of blood vessels in the stroma, which indicates the presence of oedematous-hypertrophic changes of the larynx. Discussion. The ultrastructural assessment confirm the particular usefulness of HSDI method in the diagnosis of organic dysphonia in a form of oedematous-hypertrophic changes. Raman microspectroscopy of organic matter, vitrinite reflectance and fluid inclusion data were used to reconstruct the thermal history in the lower Carboniferous accretionary prism of the Culm Basin in the Nízký Jeseník Mts. (NE Bohemian Massif). The model involves the Variscan (mid–late Carboniferous) burial diagenesis, which was overprinted by a post-Variscan, probably Permian and/or early Mesozoic, thermal pulse(s) in its central and western parts. The latter may have been related to advective heat transport and the circulation of hot fluids. In the siliciclastic rocks of the Culm Basin, the maximum palaeotemperatures varied from ~200 ± 30 °C in the E (in the Hradec-Kyjovice Formation) to ~350 ± 30 °C in the NW (in the Andělská Hora Formation).

Narrow band imaging (NBI) by enhancing the contrast between the mucosal epithelium and submucosal vessels facilitates diagnosis of precancerous and cancerous lesions, as well as hypertrophic lesions such as laryngeal papillomatosis. Narrow band imaging (NBI) is an optical technique based on the modification of white light by the use of special optical filters. Every change in the microvascular architecture of the mucosa is classified according to Ni’s classification (2011). The use of NBI improves sensitivity and specificity of assessment of laryngeal lesions and allows more precise assessment of the status of surgical margins of early-stage and locally-advanced laryngeal cancers managed in endoscopic laser cordectomy.

Objective: The process of ageing begins after 60 years of age and is referred to as presbyphonia (Vox senium). The causes include functional or organic voice disorders, often coexisting with dry upper respiratory tract infection. Introduction: The aim of the study is the use of high-speed camera and acoustic voice analysis in diagnostics of the clinical form of presbyphonia. M aterials and methods: The study included a group of 50 men, non-smokers, age from 51 to 72, who do not use their voice professionally. High-Speed Digital Imaging and HS camera have been used, allowing evaluation of real vibrations of vocal folds, along with acoustic voice analysis using a software by DiagNova Technologies. Results: VHI questionnaire has been used for self-assessment of voice disability. Visualizations of the larynx enabled recognition of hypofunctional dysphonia or atrophy of vocal folds that cause voice disorders. This was confirmed by parameters of voice acoustic evaluation: F0, NHR, narrowband spectrography. The pathological value of NHR and the presence of nonharmonic components in the range of high frequency levels indicated glottal insufficiency, recorded with the visualization technique of the larynx by HS camera. A significant shortening of maximum phonation time in relation to the control group has also been recorded. Discussion: The objective examination of voice pathology is crucial in diagnosis and rehabilitation, however, subjective assessment of the patient is important in the scope of the procedure used. The patient’s subjective self-rating assessment (VHI) confirmed the sense of voice disorders in elderly men, indicating the need for rapid and accurate clinical diagnosis.

Opis:
Bedding-parallel calcite veins in Devonian rocks from the southern part of the Holy Cross Mountains Fold Belt in central Poland occur as tabular bodies on shallow dipping as well as vertical Late Paleozoic map-scale and mesoscopic fold limbs. The syntaxial and antitaxial bedding parallel veins contain kinematic indicators such as rotated blocks, fibre boundary steps, boudin trains, beef-like structures and congruous steps. These structures show a sense of movement consistent with the flexural slip typical of folding resulting from buckling during layer-parallel shortening. We propose the mechanism of the gradual formation of the veins and the progression of fabric development which is mostly consistent with an increasing dip angle of the fold limbs and their gradual deformation. Textures of the veins and kinematic indicators within the veins point to the syntectonic growth of calcite during the Late Paleozoic buckle folding in the Holy Cross Mountains Fold Belt.

Basing on analysis of tectonic mesostructures, the structural evolution stages of the Gnieździska Syncline have been determined. The structure represents a typical example of folds occurring in the SW margin of the Holy Cross Mountains. The well-exposed syncline displays a wide variety of structures, including: shear and extension joints, stylolites, cleavage, strike-slip and dip-slip faults as well as master joints. Tectonic structures resulting from flexural slip indicate that the Gnieździska Syncline developed as a flexural-slip fold as a result of horizontal NE-SW compression. The subsequent deformation phase included mesostructures pointing to the increasing activity of a nearby Gnieździska-Wola Morawiecka dextral strike-slip fault of regional extent. In the terminal phase of the post-kinematic uplift of the Holy Cross Mountains, T joints and master joints appeared.

Opis:
Soft-sediment deformation structures play an important role in interpreting regional tectonics and basin evolution during slumping events. The Satpura Basin is interpreted as pull-apart with a monoclinal northerly palaeoslope throughout its evolution. The basin formed as a result of sinistral strike-slip faulting, induced by the ENE–WSW-trending Son-Narmada South fault in the north and the Tapti North fault in the south. We have analysed the slump folds within the basalmost Talchir Formation and related these to regional tectonics and palaeoslope changes in the Satpura Basin. The glaciofluvial strata of the Talchir Formation, exposed in the southern part of the Satpura Basin, record intricacies of folds created during slumping. Several fold styles can be distinguished, within alternations of competent sandstone and incompetent shale layers, some of which indicate buckling. Upright folds, resulting from pure shear, underwent rotation of their axial planes and fold axes during simple shear-dominated progressive deformation when the slump moved downslope. The soft-sediment deformation structures that we have studied show refolding patterns that closely resemble comparable folds known from lithified rocks. These layers with refolded structures are overlain by undeformed sediments, which proves that they are the product of a single ongoing slumping process, rather than of successive deformation events. Our analysis of their fold axes and axial planes, together with fold vergences and thrust directions within the slumps, suggests a mean slumping direction towards the southwest. Analyses of slump folds and their relationship with regional tectonics have allowed us to reinterpret basin evolution history. The southwesterly trending palaeoslope of the basin suggest that the slope of the basin was not uniform throughout its evolution. At the opening, the oblique slip fault, which trended NE–SW, generated due to movement along the ENE–WSW basin bounding faults, was more active and triggered slumping event within the Talchir deposits in the basin. With progressive overlapping of the basin-bounding faults, the Satpura Basin gradually tilted towards the north.

Opis:
Introduction: The most common cause of vocal fold paralysis (VFP) is iatrogenic injury. Patients with symptoms of VFP present to the specialist after a couple of weeks or even months since the onset of symptoms. In the literature, the data regarding speech impairment during the first days after a iatrogenic injury is lacking. Aim: to evaluate the quality of voice during first days of vocal fold paralysis following a iatrogenic injury. Materials and methods: Twenty-five patients with iatrogenic vocal fold paralysis who presented for phoniatric consultation at the Department of Otolaryngology of the Medical University of Warsaw between May 2015 and December 2016 were enrolled in the study. The patients were examined 1-2 days since the onset of speech deterioration. In all patients, laryngeal videolaryngostroboscopy was performed, based on which the following were assessed: vocal fold mobility, mucosal wave, phonation closure, simultaneity and amplitude of vocal fold vibration. Acoustic analysis was performed, and the following acoustic parameters were evaluated: DSI, F0, Shimmer, Jitter, NHR. Also, the maximal phonation time of [a] sound (MPT a) was assessed and the voice perception analysis with the GRBAS scale was performed. The patients self-evaluated their voice using a 10-point VAS scale. Results: Based on the videolaryngostroboscopy, phonatory insufficiency and asymmetrical vocal fold vibration were observed. On perception assessment with GRBAS scale, we noticed slight to mild degree hoarseness, breathiness of sound and weakened voice. In majority of patients, the maximal phonation time of [a] sound was significantly reduced. All patients showed abnormal acoustic parameters. None of them rated their voice as perfectly normal on VAS scale.

Opis:
Reinerwacja krtani to dynamiczna metoda leczenia obustronnego porażenia fałdów głosowych, która od kilkunastu lat zdobywa coraz większą popularność. Tradycyjne metody chirurgiczne obejmują trwałą zmianę struktur anatomicznych krtani zapewniając przywrócenie jej funkcji oddechowej, co więcej nasilając zaburzenie funkcji fonacyjnej oraz obronnej dolnych dróg oddechowych. Wciąż brakuje wspólnego protokołu postępowania przyjętego przez chirurgów głowy i szyi z pacjentem z obustronnym uszkodzeniem nerwów krtaniowych wstecznych. Mając to na uwadze dokonano przeglądu obecnego stanu literatury na temat technik reinerwacji krtani.
Laryngeal reinnervation is a dynamic method of treating bilateral vocal fold paralysis, which has been gaining more and more popularity for several years. Traditional surgical methods involve a permanent change in the anatomical structures of the larynx ensuring the restoration of its respiratory function, which further intensifies the disturbance of phonatory and defense functions of the lower respiratory tract. There is still no common protocol for the management of head and neck surgeons with a patient with bilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve injury. With this in mind, the current literature on laryngeal reinnervation techniques was reviewed.

Opis:
Despite the increasing technological level of the reflection seismic method, the imaging of fold and thrust belts remains a demanding task, and usually leaves some questions regarding the dips, the shape of the subthrust structures or the most correct approach to velocity model building. There is no straightforward method that can provide structural representation of the near-surface geological boundaries and their velocities. The interpretation of refracted waves frequently remains the only available technique that may be used for this purpose, although one must be aware of its limitations which appear in the complex geological settings. In the presented study, the analysis of velocity values obtained in the shallow part of Carpathian orogenic wedge by means of various geophysical methods was carried out. It revealed the lack of consistency between the results of 3D refraction tomography and both the sonic log and uphole velocities. For that reason, instead of the industry-standard utilization of tomography, a novel, geologically-consistent method of velocity model building is proposed. In the near-surface part, the uphole velocities are assigned to the formations, documented by the surface geologic map. Interpreted time-domain horizons, supplemented by main thrusts, are used to make the velocity field fully-compatible with the litho-stratigraphic units of the Carpathians. The author demonstrates a retrospective overview of seismic data imaging in the area of the Polish Carpathian orogenic wedge and discusses the most recent global innovations in seismic methodology which are the key to successful hydrocarbon exploration in fold and thrust regions.

Opis:
The main goal of this paper is to present the sedimentological and geochemical character of Krosno Beds from the Gorlice fold and the Stróże Thrust Sheet. Based on field work, two measured sections were made: western Stróże with true thickness of 300 m and eastern Lipinki with true thickness of 227 m. Within them, six sedimentary facies described in the Gorlice profile were identified and three newly recognized facies were distinguished. These facies have been interpreted in the framework of depositional mechanisms. Sedimentary structures were identified and described, including those important for reconstruct the sedimentation environment: hummocky-cross stratification (HCS) and trough cross stratification. Another element of the analysis is compilation of the measured field sections and their correlation with well logs from the Gorlice-12 and L-OU1 wells. The correlation enabled to show similarities of lithological development within the Gorlice fold and differences in relation to the Stróże Thrust Sheet profile. Eight samples of mudstone (Stróże profile 3 samples: S5–S7, Lipinki profile 5 samples: L3–L8) were collected and subjected to geochemical biomarkers analysis. The aim of the biomarkers study was to specify the character of the sedimentation environment and to confirm the biological/bacterial origin of compounds from the aryl isoprenoids group. Fifteen samples of bitumen extracts derived from two sections: Stróże in the Biała riverbed in the western part and Lipinka in the Libuszanka stream bed in the eastern part were selected for sample collection and testing. Aryl isoprenoids (short and medium chain) and higher diaryl isoprenoids have been identified. In addition, higher aromatic C40 carotenoids have been identified such as: isorenieratane, β-paleorenieratane, β-isorenieratane, β-renierapurpurane, chlorobactane and okenane. These are considered as a further evidence of the bacterial origin of aryl isoprenoids. The indices specifying the sedimentation environment were calculated: AIR, and isorenieratan/phenanthrene index. Samples were tested for: the character of the sedimentary environment, including photic zone anoxia (PZA) and its duration, depth of chemocline and bacterial activity during sedimentation. The results of the samples analysis used in this work were compared with the archival results of samples analysis (the Gorlice fold area).
