Opis:
While reconstructing partially exploited boreholes located in south-eastern part of Poland there were several issues. Standard procedures were not efficient enough to fulfil the requirements for fluid to work properly. This enforced investor to turn to the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas AGH UST Krakow for assistance in developing special formula for working fluid. Major requirements set for reconstruction fluid were to: inhibit hydration of loam rocks, reduce corrosion of casing and tubing and decrease filtrate loss which maintained at a high level. Therefore, the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas AGH UST Krakow developed and compared various reconstruction fluids' formulas to eliminate encountered complications. The article also concentrates on studying the samples collected from the borehole and presents conclusions based on laboratory tests. Analyses of the research results expose best working solution for eliminating the issues that came across during reconstruction of the borehole.

Opis:
Controllable fluids (smart liquids) are the substances that change their properties under the influence of external physical fields. Changes of these liquids properties take place in a controlled manner and they are fully reversible. The ability to changing nature of work is a very important aspect that determines their vast application possibilities. It also makes they are occupying significant place in the modern engineering. Content of this report has been in turn devoted to systematization information on the properties and work of magnetically activated controllable fluids. There have been highlighted some commonalities and differences between two basic types of magnetic fluids (ferro- and magnetorheological fluids). Essential areas of controllable fluids application and their production methods have also been presented within this notice. It seems to be more than reasonable to explore this title issue using new methods of research and observations. They in fact directly create another chances for discovery unknown features or simply adapting the existing ones to current technical expectations. What are also important, smart liquids can be threaten as highly advanced materials which synthesis cover manipulation on the already known substances and do not cause any environmental pollution. Discovered over sixty years ago, they still signalize a great potential to development.

This paper describes a research finding of drilling mud designed for UnderBalanced Drilling. The UnderDril mud formula is based on a low number of compatible components, therefore it enables uncomplicated adjustment of its technological parameters to specific conditions and contributes to the reduction of its application costs. Moreover, the UnderDril mud is composed of biodegradable ingredients, that results in a beneficial effect on the possibility of its utilization and simultaneously makes it hazardous free for the environment. The conducted research showed that the abovementioned mud can find an industrial application.

Opis:
An unsteady MHD two-layered fluid flow of electrically conducting fluids in a horizontal channel bounded by two parallel porous plates under the influence of a transversely applied uniform strong magnetic field in a rotating system is analyzed. The flow is driven by a common constant pressure gradient in a channel bounded by two parallel porous plates, one being stationary and the other oscillatory. The two fluids are assumed to be incompressible, electrically conducting with different viscosities and electrical conductivities. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to the linear ordinary differential equations using two-term series. The resulting equations are solved analytically to obtain exact solutions for the velocity distributions (primary and secondary) in the two regions respectively, by assuming their solutions as a combination of both the steady state and time dependent components of the solutions. Numerical values of the velocity distributions are computed for different sets of values of the governing parameters involved in the study and their corresponding profiles are also plotted. The details of the flow characteristics and their dependence on the governing parameters involved, such as the Hartmann number, Taylor number, porous parameter, ratio of the viscosities, electrical conductivities and heights are discussed. Also an observation is made how the velocity distributions vary with the rotating hydromagnetic interaction in the case of steady and unsteady flow motions. The primary velocity distributions in the two regions are seen to decrease with an increase in the Taylor number, but an increase in the Taylor number causes a rise in secondary velocity distributions. It is found that an increase in the porous parameter decreases both the primary and secondary velocity distributions in the two regions.

Opis:
Undermentioned article presents how wellbore trajectory changes may impact mud flow pressure losses in wellbore annulus and overall Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD) value. In order to investigate this topic, there were conducted two series of tests. In the first round actual, field data from six previously drilled wells was used to recreate real wellbores conditions in Halliburton Landmark Drilling Software and to calculate ECD values. In order to check and confirm the results accuracy, the outcomes were compared with pressure while drilling (PWD) equipment surveys’ results made during drilling operations. Next it was analyzed how ECD parameter's values change in particular sections of vertical and horizontal wellbores, due to trajectory angle modifications. With aim of expanding scope of the work, the second group of tests was made in Drilling Fluids Laboratory at Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas. Using Grace Sagging Tester M8500 Ultra HPHT it was examined how in wellbore conditions (high pressure and temperature) wellbore trajectory angle modifications may impact solids sedimentation process and fluid density changes in the annulus thus ECD value as well. The results indicate that there is a relationship between wellbore trajectory angle changes and ECD value shifts. In addition there are included field tests outcomes prepared by K&M Technology Group which confirm presented assumption.

reservoir drilling
Opis:
Drilling into a pay zone with a conventional fluid can introduce a host of previously undefined risks, all of which diminish reservoir connectivity with the wellbore or reduce formation permeability. This is particularly true in horizontal wells, where the pay zone can be exposed to the drilling fluid over a long interval. Selecting the most suitable fluid system for drilling into the pay zone requires an understanding of the reservoir. Using data generated by lab testing on core plugs from carefully selected pay zone cores, a reservoir-fluid-sensitivity study should be conducted to determine the morphological and mineralogical composition of the reservoir rock. Natural reservoir fluids should be analyzed to establish their chemical makeup. The degree of damage that could be caused by anticipated problems can be modeled, as the effectiveness of possible solutions for mitigating the risks. In addition to being safe and economical for the application, a Reservoir Drill-In Fluid should be compatible with the reservoir's native fluids to avoid causing precipitation of salts or emulsions production. A suitable nondamaging fluid should establish a filter cake on the face of the formation and shouldn't penetrate too far into the formation pore pattern. The fluid filtrate should inhibit or prevent swelling of reactive clay particles within the pore throats. Formation damage commonly is caused by: – Pay zone invasion and plugging by fine particles. – Formation clay swelling. – Commingling of incompatible fluids. – Movement of dislodged formation pore-filling particles. – Changes in reservoir-rock wettability. – Formation of emulsions or water blocks. Once a damage mechanism has diminished the permeability of a reservoir, it seldom is possible to restore the reservoir to its original condition.

This paper introduces a new rheological model of blood as a certain generalization of the standard Herschel-Bulkley model (Herschel W H and Bulkley R 1926 Kolloid-Zeitschnft 39 (4) 291). This model is a rheological constitutive equation and belongs to the group of the so-called generalised Newtonian fluids. Experimental data (Yeleswarapu K K et al. 1998 Mech. Res. Comm. 25 (3) 257) is compared with the results obtained from the new model, to demonstrate that it allows obtaining the best agreement together with the Luo-Kuang model (Luo X and Kuang Z B 1992 J. Biomechanics 25 (8) 929; Easthope P L and Brooks D E 1980 Biorheology 17 235). The new model may be easily implemented into commercial CFD codes, which is not that obvious for more complicated models such as differential, integral and rate type fluids (Astarita G and Marrucci G 1974 Principles of non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics London, McGraw-Hill; Tesch K 2012 Selected Topics of Blood Flows and Microclimate Modelling in Protective Suits Gdansk. Gdansk University of Technology Press). What is more, it allows modelling of such phenomena as shear thinning, yield stress and constant viscosity values at high shear rates.

Opis:
The article describes issue of a mud for hydrogeological wells and a method of removing sediment accumulated on the well filter and in the near-well zone after borehole drilling. Developed fluid formula is based on both primary criterion of selecting the best technological parameters of the mud and restrictive ecological standards. Because of the contact between the mud and the underground water (which is the main source of potable water), a need to select appropriate components such as biodegradable polymers (Guar-Gum, XC) and other organic compounds that are not causing harmful environmental effects has arisen. Furthermore, developed formula allows for relatively easy removal of mud remains from the well filter and near-well zone, inereasing well efficiency. The paper includes research findings of sediment acidizing by the procedure called "soft acidizing". Any information about practical application of this procedure can hardly be found in specialized literature. Therefore, concentrations and variations of the acetic, hydrochloric and citric acids were subject of research and analysis.

This article presents a method in which low rheology drilling muds are used as a solution for demanding wellbore pressure management and high Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD) values. Both researches’ results indicate that low rheology drilling muds may solve ECD optimization problems while still maintaining required properties and executing tasks of drilling fluids.

Opis:
This paper deals with the investigation of time dependent boundary layer flow of a modified power-law fluid of fourth grade on a stretched surface with an injection or suction boundary condition. The fluid model is a mixture of fourth grade and power-law fluids in which the fluid may display shear thickening, shear thinning or normal stress textures. By using the scaling and translation transformations which is a type of Lie Group transformation, time dependent boundary layer equations are reduced into two alternative ordinary differential equations systems (ODEs) with boundary conditions. During this reduction, special Lie Group transformations are used for translation, scaling and combined transformation. Numerical solutions have been carried out for the ordinary differential equations for various fluids and boundary condition parameters. As a result of numerical analysis, it is observed that the boundary layer thickness decreases as the power-law index value increases. It was also observed that for the fourth-grade fluid parameter, as the parameter increases, the boundary layer thickness decreases while the velocity in the y direction increases.
