The experiments were performed in a microscale in a region of tracer fluid injection. The results of experiments can be used for direct validation of currently developed CFD models, particularly for time-dependent mixing models used in LES.

W pracy zdefiniowano przepływomierz próbkujący i porównano go z przepływomierzem całoprzewodowym. Do modelowania rozkładu prędkości w rurociagu użyto wzoru Prandtla i uniwersalnego. Przedstawiono pięć sposobów umiejscowienia czujnika prędkości punktowej w powierzchni rurociagu: w osi, w miejscu przełomowym, w miejscu równopowierzchniowym, w miejscu równostrumieniowym i w miejscu optymalnym. Dla położenia optymalnego sformułowano dwie funkcje celu i dla konkretnego przypadku wyznaczono położenia czujnika. Przedstawiono metodę obliczania wielkości mierzonej, to jest strumienia objętości.
In the paper sampling tlowmeters are defined and compared with full-bore flowmeters. For modeling of velocity distribution in the pipeline Prandtl and universal formulae are introduced. Five arts of velocity sensor positions are introduced: centerline position - in the pipe axis, critical position - point velocity is equal to average velocity, equal surface position, equal flow-rate position and optimal position. For optimal position are proposed two objective functions. One concrete example of optimization is introduced - minimizing relative and absolute error. Calculations shows, that the sensor positions for these two objective functions are different. The method of reproducing measurand (volumetric flow-rate) in sampling flowmeter is given.

The current work deals with two-phase flow and heat transfer induced by a mixture of fluid and dust particles revolving with a constant angular velocity above a slippage planar wall. Interaction of the solids with the fluid through an interaction force while rotating above the surface is formulated through a similarity system of equations akin to the Bödewadt flow in the absence of suspended particles. Although the velocity fields of fluid and solid are strictly coupled, the heat fields are decoupled from the velocity fields, but they are still in contact with each other due to the coupling of fluid and particle temperatures. The dusty fluid flow character is simulated numerically to capture the fluid and dust phase behaviors. The momentum and thermal layers are resolved in the presence of wall slip mechanism. Illustrative and quantitative results are eventually presented reflecting the physical features of particles and fluid at any stage of interaction during the rotary motion. It is revealed that the wall slip mechanism can be effective enough to alter the usual Bödewadt flow phenomenon.

Steam turbines are used as propulsion components in not only power plants but also on merchant and naval ships. The geometry of the steam turbine seals changes throughout the machine life cycle. The rate of deterioration of these seals, in turn, affects heavily the efficiency of the thermal machine. However, the literature overview does not provide any research reports on flow phenomena occurring in heavily deteriorated seals. The paper describes the course and results of investigations into a model straight through labyrinth seal composed of 4 discs, each with the slot height of 2 mm. The investigations have been conducted with air as the working medium. Changes of gas flow parameters due to wear were analysed. Based on the experimental data, more intensive leakage was observed as the result of the increased slot height. The static pressure distribution along the examined segment was measured. The experimentally recorded distribution differed remarkably from the theoretical assumptions. Another part of the experimental research focused on comparing the gas velocities at points situated upstream of the first and second seal disc. The velocity measurements were carried out using a constant temperature wire probe. This part of the investigations provided opportunities for analysing the influence of seal wear on gas flow conditions in the seal segment. The paper compares the results of the experimental research with those obtained using the CFX software. The presented results of velocity distributions provide a clear picture of the nature of the gas flow in the seal, which enables its analysis.

The velocity field and the shear stress corresponding to motion of an Oldroyd-B fluid between two infinite coaxial circular cylinders are established by means of the Hankel transforms. The flow of the fluid is produced due to the time dependent axial shear stress applied on the boundary of the inner cylinder. The exact solutions, presented under a series form, can easily be specialized to give similar solutions for the Maxwell, second grade and Newtonian fluids performing the same motion. Finally, some characteristics of the motion as well as the influence of the material constants on the behavior of the fluid are underlined by graphical illustrations.
Pole prędkości i pole rozkładu naprężeń stycznych wywołanych ruchem cieczy Oldroyda-B umieszczonej między dwoma koncentrycznymi cylindrami wyznaczono za pomocą transformaty Hankela. Przepływ cieczy wywołano zależnym od czasu naprężeniem stycznym od zewnętrznej ściany cylindra wewnętrznego. Uzyskane rozwiązanie dokładne, ujęte w formie rozwinięcia w szereg, może łatwo być zastosowane dla przypadków szczególnych cieczy Maxwella, cieczy drugiego stopnia i nienewtonowskich przy tych samych warunkach przepływu. Na zakończenie rozważań, przedstawiono graficznie charakterystyki ruchu cieczy i wpływ parametrów materiałowych na jej zachowanie.

The flow velocity of water and its accurate surface profile estimation is important parameter as changes in climate increases the uneven rainfall patterns causing flood in downstream. It is important to know the velocity profile in steep open channel flows for solving the soil erosion, flooding and sediment transport problems in rivers or streams on steep slopes. A fixed bed laboratory experiment for a rectangular channel with steep slope is conducted to find the velocity profiles and surface profiles at different sections. Velocity profiles are presented at different sections in rectangular channel with steep slope. The outcome of the laboratory based experimental investigation shows that the velocity and surface profiles are influenced by the depth of flow of water and channel bed slope respectively.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki wizualizacji opływów wybranych profili sond spiętrzających przepływ. Określono częstotliwość odrywania się wirów za sondą. Przeprowadzono szereg badań eksperymentalnych mających na celu określenie oraz analizę zjawisk zachodzących w rozpatrywanym obszarze badawczym. Dzięki wykorzystaniu metody anemometrii obrazowej uzyskano rozkłady prędkości w otoczeniu badanych profili. Sformułowano wnioski natury metrologicznej.
The paper presents results of flow around visualization in selected sensors profiles of the pitot probe. Vortices detachment frequency from the probe was defined. A series of experimental research to identifying and determining analysis the phenomena occurring in the area of research were done. By using Practicle Image Velocimetry methods (PIV) velocity distribution around the analyzed profiles were obtained. Metrological type conclusions were formulated.

Use of the magnetic fluid seal technology in water is much more difficult technological problem in comparison to gas or vacuum environment. Some seals constructed up to time been are designed as hybrid, two stage sealing structures with shields or mechanical seals used as protection measures to the magnetic fluid seal. Anyway, there is always problem with immediate contact between magnetic fluid and the environmental liquid. In the paper are presented results of experiments carried out with one stage rotating magnetic fluid seal operating in immediate contact with utility water. The special test procedures have been elaborated and practically used, with the aim to define main characteristics of magnetic fluid seals and to simplify experiments. These characteristics were: critical pressure, critical motion velocity and working life of the seal. Four grades of commercial, silicon based magnetic fluids of hydrophobic properties were tested in a single stage sealing system. The results of tests are presented in the form of tables and diagrams. It is concluded that hydrophobic commercial magnetic fluids could be efficiently used in rotating shaft seals however in a limited range of motion velocity.

The magnetic fluid seal technology in water is much more difficult technological problem in comparison to gas or vacuum environment. The edge criteria for magnetic-fluid seals durability research were described in previous article [24] and now the tests results are presented. The tests were made with three magnetic fluids using various magnets quantity in magnetic assemblies. If values obtained in the repeated test deviated by more than 10 % from results of the first test an additional control test was made for final characteristics. The characteristics are: critical pressure, critical motion velocity and working life of the seal. The test stands were prepared for particular seals dimensions and results of tests are presented in the form of tables, cross section draws and diagrams. In conclusion one can see that multi-stage magnetic-fluid seals could be efficiently used in water for rotating shaft seals in a limited range of motion velocity and cycles quantity. Nevertheless a particular applications can be provided by magnetic-fluid seals only.

An exact solution of the combined study of Hall effects on a vertical plate with a rotating fluid in the presence of a homogeneous chemical reaction of first order has been analysed. The dimensionless governing coupled partial differential equations are tackled using the usual Laplace transform technique. The sway of the Hall parameter, Hartmann number, Grashof number, Prandtl number, Schmidt number, chemical reaction parameter on the axial velocity and concentration of the fluid has been depicted graphically. When the non-dimensional angular velocity, Ω=2M21+m.2, the transverse velocity component vanishes, thereby the axial velocity of the fluid attains the maximum value. It is noted that with increase in the Hall parameter, thermal Grashof number and mass Grashof number, the axial velocity of the fluid increases significantly.

Packing is a useful method to obtain a static separation environment for a high flotation recovery and selectivity. In this study, the single-phase flow field in a packed lab-scale cyclonic-static microbubble flotation column (FCSMC) was investigated by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. Turbulence model was verified by Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) experiment; the simulation results obtained by the RSM (Reynolds Stress Model) are closer to the experimental data. Based on this validation, RSM turbulence model was used to obtain the effect of sieve-plate on the hydrodynamic characteristics in the column flotation zone. The results show that the sieve-plate packing arrangement greatly straightens the rotation flow and decreases the turbulence. To further improve the effect of packing, two layers of sieve plates were used, and one diameter (1D = 190 mm) was selected as the reasonable distance between the two layers of sieve plates. To quantitative evaluate the effect of sieve-plate packing, the logarithm of Pdk over the logarithm of Pdo was calculated based on the volume-averaged turbulence dissipation rate, increasing from 24.72 for one layer of sieve-plate packing to 216.96 for two layers of sieve-plate packing. The probability of detachment significantly decreased for two layers of sieve-plate packing, and the recovery efficiency was significantly improved.

Opis:
Pipeline transport is used worldwide in many sectors of the economy. Its main advantages are continuity of transport, large transportation volumes, small energy consumption, safety, reliability and high environmental benefits. However, the safety problems of pipes attract much interest in science and industry. This paper deals with a cracked pipe with a static scheme of a simply supported beam. It rests along its entire length on a Pasternak elastic foundation. The flowing fluid is considered non-compressible and heavy. The Galerkin method is employed to approach the problem numerically. Conclusions are drawn based on the influence of the crack and the parameters of the Pasternak elastic foundation on the critical flow velocity of the fluid.
