Rosnące możliwości i dostępność układów FPGA na rynku elektronicznym sprawiają, że coraz częściej są one używane w aplikacjach wymagających dużych, równoległych mocy obliczeniowych oraz opóźnień rzędu kilkudziesięciu nanosekund. Systemy pomiarowo - sterujące w eksperymentach fizyki wysokich energii coraz częściej oparte są na systemach elektronicznych z tymi układami. Pełnią one nie tylko funkcje obliczeniowe i integrujące uruchamiane algorytmy, ale także umożliwiają łatwe użycie dostępnych urządzeń zewnętrznych. Oprócz dużej mocy obliczeniowej, aplikacje te wymagają również użycia kilkudziesięciu kanałów analogowych. Z tego powodu nie jest możliwe zintegrowanie kompletnego systemu na jednej płycie drukowanej (PCB). Prezentowany artykuł opisuje architekturę skalowalnego, rozproszonego systemu pomiarowo-sterującego opartego na układach FPGA, który wyposażony jest w kilkadziesiąt kanałów analogowych. Komunikacja między poszczególnymi elementami tego systemu wykorzystuje optyczne łącza światłowodowe. Został on przetestowany oraz użyty w akceleratorze liniowym będącym częścią lasera nadfioletowego FLASH (Free Electron Laser in Hamburg) jako szkielet sterownika LLRF (Low Level Radio Frequency) dla 24 wnęk nadprzewodzących.
The availability and the computation power provided by FPGA chips is constantly increasing. Currently it can be compared to a computation power of modern DSP chips. This makes FPGA chips natural choice for flexible applications which require large amounts of parallel computation power together with the low latency of executed algorithms. The control and measurement systems for high energy physics experiments (HEP) are executed on electronic boards based on these chips. FPGAs not only execute necessary algorithms, but also provide drivers for used peripherals and communication links. Additionally HEP experiments require usage of large number of analogue channels. Therefore it is not possible to create such a system using single PCB board. The paper describes the architecture of the flexible and scalable distributed system based on FPGA chips, which integrates tens of analogue input channels. The communication amongst the boards is using dedicated RocketIO blocks and optical fibre links. The system was tested and used in the linear accelerator which is part of FLASH experiment as the framework for LLRF (Low Level Radio Frequency) controller for 24 superconducting cavities.

Most of the industrial machines use round-shaped drive belts for power transfer. They are often a few millimetres in diameter, and made of thermoplastic elastomer, especially polyurethane. Their production process requires the bonding step, which is often performed by butt welding, using the hot plate method. The authors have undertaken to design an automatic welding machine for this purpose. Consequently, it is required to carry out a process analysis of hot plate welding, which entails describing the dependency between technological parameters (temperature, pressure force, time) and the quality of the joint, especially the outer surface of the belt around the weld. To analyse this process in a proper way, it is necessary to describe the physical phenomena that occur in the material, during particular operations of the hot plate welding process. One of the most troublesome phenomena occurring during the welding process is removing of the flash. These round rings, placed around the weld, which remains after the joining process, are unacceptable in the finished component. The authors took an effort to design the necessary equipment for removing of the flash after welding, using some simple parts that cut off excessive material. The paper shows the three possible solutions for flash removal. They were verified experimentally, and afterwards, the best solution was chosen. Additionally, a number of analytical calculations were carried out in order to determine the maximum force value required for this operation. Results of the analytical calculations were compared with experimental results.

Príspevok, ktorý vznikol za podpory grantovej agentúry KEGA je zameraný na analytické spracovanie rozšírených možností práce s interaktívnou tabuľou. Interaktívna ako dotyková projekčná plocha nemusí byť iba obmedzená na využitie aplikačného softvéru, ktorý je jej súčasťou. Jej prepojenie s hardvérovým a softvérovým vybavením ponúka tak rozšírené možnosti využitia. Článok sa zaoberá možnosťami multimediálnych systémov, ktoré predstavujú najvhodnejšie uplatnenie pri výučbe technicky orientovaných predmetov najmä z pohľadu dodržania podmienky názornosti, ktorú takého predmety prioritne vyžadujú. V článku sú zmienené rozšírené možnosti prostredníctvom multimediálnych PowerPointových prezentácii, multimediálnych prenosných dokumentových formátov – známych pod skratkou PDF a multimediálnych flash animácii.
The contribution, which was supported by Grant Agency KEGA focuses on analytical processing increased opportunities to work with interactive whiteboard. Interactive touch as a projection screen are not only limited to the use of application software that is part of it. Combining it with hardware and software offers advanced options such use. The article deals with the possibilities of multimedia systems that are best suited for teaching in technical subjects especially in terms of compliance with the conditions of clarity that such items be urgently. The article mentioned enhanced capabilities through multimedia PowerPoint presentations, multimedia Portable Document Formats – known by the acronym PDF and multimedia flash animation.

FLASH (Fast Localised Abdominal Sonography of Horses), is a protocol that can be used in an emergency setting, to detect major intraabdominal abnormalities in horses with colic. This protocol assesses seven, topographical locations: (1) ventral abdomen, (2) gastric window, (3) spleno-renal window, (4) left middle third of the abdomen, (5) duodenal window, (6) right middle third of the abdomen, and (7) thoracic window. The examination is relatively easy and can be performed also by veterinarians without extensive experience. This protocol allows to evaluate anatomic location, wall thickness, motility, and content of the intestines. In conjunction with other clinical and laboratory findings, ultrasonography helps in the preoperative identification of the source of acute abdominal pain.

This paper describes the comparison of different methods of flight data logging in multirotor unmanned aerial vehicles. Solutions used in commercial avionics systems are presented and compared with the current design developed by authors. Based on the literature and analyzed examples, requirements for two separate logging systems are formulated. This approach allowed to modify current solutions and develop new methods for the high frequency data logging. Three different memory storages were considered for this task - SD card, RAM and external NAND Flash. Based on the theoretical calculations, developed prototypes and performed experiments, the best solution was selected.

W artykule przedstawiono możliwość wykorzystania kart pamięci Flash w mikroprocesorowych urządzeniach rejestracji danych pomiarowych. Dokonano przeglądu najpopularniejszych kart oraz omówiono ich właściwości. Na przykładzie kart MMC i SD opisano sposób odczytu i zapisu danych przy wykorzystaniu interfejsu SPI. Rozważono różne struktury zapisu danych. W oparciu o wykonany prototyp rejestratora oszacowano zapotrzebowanie na zasoby pamięci oraz możliwą do osiągnięcia szybkość operacji zapisu i odczytu danych.
The capability of the Flash memory cards usage in microprocessor data recorder is presented in this paper. The most popular cards and their properties are reviewed. The way of writing and reading data from MMC and SD card using SPI interface is described. Some structures of data recording are considered. Basing on created prototype of data recorder the requirement of memory resources and the speed of recording operations possible to achieve are estimated.

Flash flood disasters often hit many areas in Indonesia and can generate various losses. These conditions are exacerbated by people’s low knowledge and interest in their environment. Therefore, if people’s environmental education increases, especially their flood disaster mitigation knowledge, they can be prepared and better protect themselves from such disasters. People’s environmental education must start from determining the reason of the flood disaster in their environment to discovering how to avoid the disaster. This research design is a one-group post-test design. The collected data in this research is a written test result about knowledge in flash flood disaster mitigation materials as an implementation in environmental education in the community. The research data results were analyzed by means of simple regression, logistics regression, and correlation. Based on this research, environmental education with disaster mitigation materials has a high understanding level. In the disaster step, the highest understanding is before it happens. The correlation between educational strata and gender on environmental education and disaster mitigation materials is low. Finally, the role of women in disaster mitigation needs to improve because they have a higher understanding than males of disaster mitigation materials.

The variation of the lightning activities over Sri Lanka and surrounded costal belt (5.75ºN-10.00ºN and 79.50ºE-89.00ºE) is studied using lightning flash data of Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS) which was launched in November 1997 for NASA’s Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM). The LIS data in the period of 1998 to 2014 are based on this study and there were 23838 lightning flashes over the landmass covered by Sri Lanka during considered period. The data show that average flash density has an increasing trend of 0.093 flashes km-2 year-1. The linear trend is shown in annual flash count with the fitted straight line. Although there is a slight variation between years, there is a clearly increasing trend with 24 flashes per year. There is an incremental trend in distributing of lightning activities all over the country with time. Warming trends of surface temperature and atmosphere may have a correlation with increasing trend of the lightning activities over Sri Lanka and surrounded costal belt.

A new insensitive explosive based on RDX and with Nitrocellulose (NC) as binder has been prepared using a flash vaporization process. Scanning electron microscopy was used to characterize the morphology and particle size of the resulting RDX-NC microspheres. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, impact sensitivity, vacuum stability and burning rate of raw RDX, RDX-NC and RDX-1 were also used to characterize the explosive. The RDX-NC microspheres were found to have a fibrous surface. The microspheres ranged in size from 0.5 μm to 4 μm. The NC formed a coat on the surface of the RDX. The activation energies of raw RDX, RDX-1 and RDX-NC were found to be 200.8 kJ·mol−1, 183.9 kJ·mol−1 and 187.2 kJ·mol−1, respectively. The drop heights of raw RDX, RDX-1 and RDX-NC were found to be 21.3 cm, 51.7 cm and 82.9 cm, respectively. The friction sensitivity of RDX-NC was lower than that of raw RDX and RDX-1. In the vacuum stability test, the volumes of evolved gas from raw RDX, RDX-1 and RDX-NC were 0.12 mL·g−1, 0.12 mL·g−1, and 0.09 mL·g−1, respectively. The burning rates of RDX-NC-based propellants were higher than that of RDX-1 and raw RDX based propellants at 5-15 MPa. The burning rate pressure exponent of RDX-NC based propellants is 0.9929 at 40-200 MPa.

This work describes a 4-bit Flash ADC with low power consumption. The performance metrics of a Flash ADC depend on the kind of comparator and encoder used. Hence openloop comparator and mux-based encoder are used to obtain improved performance. Simulation results show that the simulated design consumes 0.265mW of power in 90nm CMOS technology using cadence-virtuoso software. The circuit operates with an operating frequency of 100MHz and a supply voltage of 1V.

Lighting radiation fields below 10 MHz are of considerable interest since these frequencies correspond to the natural resonance of structures with dimensions of a few meters to tens of meters. In this paper we present the fine structure signatures of sub-microsecond range pulses appeared at the leader phase and after the return stroke in negative ground flashes which act as a source for HF radiations at 10 MHz, 5 MHz and 3 MHz observed in Sri Lanka, in the tropics. Of the total sub-microsecond range pulses analyzed, 298 were due to positive field changes and 228 were due to negative field changes. The average rise time of those pulses for both polarities is 127 ns and it was found to be varying from 110-160 ns. The peak amplitude is in the range of 0.65-2.19 V/m. For the total 526 pulses analyzed for this study, the FWHM was between 190-310 ns with an arithmetic mean of 238 ns. Signatures of these pulses are similar to the leader like electric field pulses which acted as a strong source for HF radiations at 10 MHz, 5 MHz and 3 MHz. The initiation process of pulses reported in this study could be similar to the initiation process of leader like pulses.

The suspension of the copper droplets in the post-processing slag taken directly from the KGHM-Polska Miedź S.A. Factory (from the direct-to-blister technology as performed in the flash furnace) was subjected to the special treatment with the use of the one of the typical industrial reagent and with the complex reagent newly patented by the authors. This treatment was performed in the BOLMET S.A. Company in the semi-industrial conditions. The result of the CaCO3, and Na2CO3 chemicals influence on the coagulation and subsequent sedimentation of copper droplets on the crucible bottom were subjected to comparison with the sedimentation forced by the mentioned complex reagent. The industrial chemicals promoted the agglomeration of copper droplets but the coagulation was arrested / blocked by the formation of the lead envelope. Therefore, buoyancy force forced the motion of the partially coagulated copper droplets towards the liquid slag surface rather than sedimentation on the crucible bottom. On the other hand, the complex reagent was able to influence the mechanical equilibrium between copper droplets and some particles of the liquid slag as well as improve the slag viscosity. Finally, the copper droplets coagulated successfully and generally, were subjected to a settlement on the crucible bottom as desired / requested.

Recovery of gold and gold-containing sulfide mineral particles requires multiple-stage recovery processes starting from the grinding circuits to avoid over-grinding of the liberated gold particles. Due to high density, these gold grains tend to follow the hydrocyclone underflow, and a significant amount of metal increases in the circulating load. Therefore, in recent years the grinding circuits have been designed to improve the recovery of free gold/gold-containing particles in the grinding circuit. Gravity separation (centrifugal gravity separators) and flash flotation processes are commonly used for gold recovery in the grinding circuit. This study used a methodology based on modeling-simulation studies to assess various flowsheet configurations involving flash flotation, gravity separation, and the conventional sulfide mineral flotation process. The standard GRG, flash flotation, and rougher kinetic tests were used for the model development of each process. The laboratory tests and simulation studies showed that gold and sulfur recoveries in flash flotation were approximately 7% and 17% higher than that of the gravity separation process. However, the grade of the gravity concentrate was considerably higher. Therefore, one of these unit processes or their combinations can be selected depending on the ore characteristics and the aim of the recovery process. Simulation studies were performed to illustrate the gold recovery performance of various flowsheet configurations. This methodology could be used effectively for flowsheet development, particularly for greenfield projects.
