General Factor of Personality (GFP)
Five-Factor Model of Personality (FFM)
Opis:
The paper presents research on the validity of the General Factor of Personality (GFP), extracted on the basis of NEO-FFI scores. Analysis was based on data obtained in four groups consisting, in total, of 1906 participants (878 women and 1028 men aged from 18 to 66 years). Scores on Five-Factor Model (FFM) scales and GFP scores were analyzed against 15 selected criterion variables: the intensity of PTSD symptoms, schizotypal personality symptoms, general self-efficacy, conflict management styles (integrating, dominating, avoiding, compromising, obliging), and behavioral risk factors of somatic diseases (CND and cancer): Type A, Type 1, Type 2, and Type 4 personality as well as depressiveness, hostility, and submissiveness. The results indicated the structural weakness of the GFP (low reliability, unacceptable fit of the one-factor model to the structure of NEOFFI scales) and a high diversity of GFP validity. Comparative analysis of criterion variables for which both FFM and GFP scores had high validity with cases of variables showing high validity of FFM scores and low validity of the GFP allowed to identify the causes of the diversity of GFP validity. It is a result of low intercorrelations among FFM scales, which frequently creates differences between the pattern of intercorrelations of FFM scales and the pattern of their correlations with criterion variables. In the discussion the limited theoretical and empirical meaning of the GFP was underlined, especially when compared to the general g factor, used in research on intelligence, extracted from highly intercorrelated ability tests or even personality scales, which are based on highly correlated lower level subdimensions.

Opis:
The present study focused on relationships between personality traits, self-efficacy, self-esteem and basic trust, and well-being in context of entrepreneurial activity. Participants were 301 unemployed people, 157 of whom had received a grant from an employment agency to start their own business. Participants completed measures of personality traits, self-efficacy, self-esteem, basic trust, satisfaction with life, positive and negative affect. To verify if beliefs about the self and about the world mediated relationships between personality traits and well-being we conducted a multiple-sample SEM. The study results confirm that the beliefs mediate relationships between personality traits and well-being. They also show that different types of beliefs serve a different function, depending on an individual’s circumstances. Among grant acceptors, self-efficacy did not impact well-being, while self-esteem and basic trust had similar functions in both groups.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of personality traits of individuals on organizational silence in the context of its four forms, discussed in prevailing angles taken in relevant literature. Respondents’ personality traits are differentiated according to the five 8 factor model of personality (the Big Five). Design/methodology/approach: The empirical material was obtained through a survey by means of a questionnaire with 47 questions (including questions about discriminatory behaviour, forms of organizational silence and respondents’ personality traits). The survey was conducted in 2021 in the West Pomeranian province, Poland. 426 questionnaires were analysed. Findings: There are statistically significant correlations (overall, positively-oriented) for acquiescent silence with results of self-assessment of respondents’ personality traits in the domain of extraversion, conscientiousness and openness to experience, while for defensive silence – in the domain of extraversion, neuroticism (exceptionally - negative correlation) and openness to experience. Research limitations/implications: The analysis is based on respondents’ subjective declarations. Intensification of respondents’ personality traits is examined on the basis of self 20 assessment, which may limit the pre-editorial capacity of the measuring tool. Practical implications: The study presents individual descriptions of personalities which determine the differentiated behaviours relating to organizational silence. This knowledge may be used in the context of managerial actions for breaking silence. Originality/value: This research may be considered pioneering in the Polish literature, while such investigations in international writings are rare and conducted in a different typological configuration.

Opis:
The aim of the paper was to characterize personality disorders in terms of the dimensions of the Circumplex of Personality Metatraits (CPM) developed by Strus, Cieciuch, and Rowiński. It was expected that personality disorders characterized by the profiles of traits from the five-factor model of personality (FFM) would be located in the sector delimited by poles Gamma- and Delta- and including pole Alfa-. The author analyzed data collected in a sample of 2,284 subjects tested by means of the NEO-FFI and three other instruments: the Personality Beliefs Questionnaire, the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis II Disorders (SCID-II), and the TALEIA-400A questionnaire (Test for AxiaL Evaluation and Interview for Clinical, Personnel, and Guidance Applications) for the assessment of personality disorders as well as compared them with the data from the meta-analysis by Saulsman and Page (2004) concerning the relations between personality disorders and FFM traits. The obtained correlations confirmed the research expectations. In Discussion, the author points out the heuristic value of the CPM for differentiating the norm from pathologies, which includes the differential diagnosis of personality disorders.

Developing learners' lexical subsystem is one of the most important tasks of foreign language didactics. The observable turn towards vocabulary (,,Wortschatzwende’’) has contributed to an in-depth reflection on learners' lexical competence, including their strategic competence. The aim of this article is to present results of a correlational research concerning the influence of personality variables (understood according to the Five-Factor Model) on the range and frequency of strategies used by Polish high-school students to learn German vocabulary. The research project described in this article was conducted in April 2021. The polish adaptation of the NEO Five-Factor Inventory was applied to examine the learners’ personality traits. The Polish version of Schmitt's Vocabulary Learning Strategies Questionnaire (VLSQ) was used to investigate students’ preferred strategies for learning German vocabulary. Based on the conclusions from the research, an attempt was made to formulate practical guidelines for foreign language teachers concerning the possibilities of developing learners' lexical competence. The report is complemented by a list of open research questions and problems in this field.

RUNO typology

Circumplex of Personality Metatraits
Opis:
Personality types are currently understood as basic configurations of personality traits from the Big Five model. However, to date, research has provided inconsistent results as to the number and content of personality types. The broadest support was found for the three-type RUO (Resilient-Undercontrolled-Overcontrolled) typology, but many studies indicate the existence of four or five basic personality types. The prevalence of an exploratory orientation in research on personality types was identified as the main cause of these inconsistencies, and the need for a well-justified theoretical basis for the personality typology was observed. The current study examines the predictions resulting from the four-type RUNO (Resilient-Undercontrolled-Nonresilient-Overcontrolled) typology – a proposal built on the Two Factor Model of personality and its extension: the Circumplex of Personality Metatraits. We used various measurement instruments (11 questionnaires to measure Big Five traits), samples (five samples with a total of 4430 respondents) and statistical procedures (cluster analyses on row and standardized data) testing the three-type, four-type and five-type solutions. We expected that although the robustness of the empirically derived type-solutions across different research conditions will be limited (in accordance with the previous studies), the configurations of each type found in the Big Five data will be in a concordance with the RUNO typology. Obtained results roughly confirmed our expectations. We conclude that a renewed focus on the theoretical basis of personality typology seems to be necessary to further advance this field of research and the Circumplex of Personality Metatraits enables the essential turn from an exploratory approach (usually used in the previous studies) to a theoretically driven approach (proposed by us in the current study) to personality typology.

Opis:
The current literature on personality types—understood as basic configurations of the Big Five’s personality traits—provides inconsistent results. The most commonly reported, three-type RUO (Resilient-Undercontrolled-Overcontrolled) solution is not definitive, as other solutions are also" often obtained. The current paper starts from reviewing and discussing the inconsistencies found in the previous results as well as in the RUO typology itself. The prevalence of an exploratory orientation in research on personality type was interpreted as the main cause of these problems. Then, we proposed a solution by using the Two Factor Model of personality and its extension—the Circumplex of Personality Metatraits—as the theoretical foundation for a four-type RUNO typology (Resilient-Undercontrolled-Nonresilient-Overcontrolled). The paper presents the RUNO personality typology and its theoretical consequences – in particular, we argue that the RUNO (a) is the most theoretically justified, and therefore, empirically expected solution, (b) allows us to explain why the three-type RUO solution is so commonly obtained, and (c) helps to solve some other problems that have arisen in the literature (e.g., with “typeness”).
