    Opis:
    The main aim of this article is to present an approach to planning the implementation of innovative technologies and introducing strategical modernization into power plants using the results of two foresight studies conducted by the authors. The results of these foresights were obtained from the two projects: a corporate foresight conducted in Ukraine and a regional foresight linked to the energy sector in Lower Silesia (a region in Poland). Using the method of foresight allows us to look at strategical modernization more holistically and take the different points of view of a wide range of stakeholders into consideration. Such an approach could be used to establish a set of measures aimed at the continuous improvement of technical, technological, socioeconomic and environmental processes in power plants (e.g., the operation of Ukrainian hydroelectric power plants). Although various approaches to foresight (e.g., corporate foresight and regional foresight) have been applied in different countries, the corresponding processes of planning innovation and modernization are similar.

    Opis:
    Purpose: The article focuses on the issue of energy transition in relation to Polish entities operating in the energy sector. The aim of the article is to analyse and assess the scale of the changes in the business models of energy companies resulting from the transformation. Design/methodology/approach: The literature on the study of energy models and transformation has proposed theoretical frameworks to support energy transformation. They provide inspiration to examine the impact of energy transition on the business models of Polish traditional energy companies operating in the form of integrated capital groups. Three energy companies of the Polish energy sector, operating in the form of integrated capital groups – PGE, TAURON and ENEA – were selected for the study. The research used such methods as literature review and materials concerning the current situation and market trends in the energy sector as well as case study research. The research model uses the approach proposed by A. Osterwalder and Y. Pigneur, describing the rationale behind the way in which an organisation creates value and provides and profits from the value created. Findings: The article summarises the results of research devoted to the changes in the configuration of the business model of a traditional energy company in the context of building a new energy market structure, characterised by distribution of generation sources, fast-growing prosumerism, intelligence of solutions resulting from the innovative ICT technologies applied and virtualisation of the offered customer value. The research covered selected Polish energy companies operating within the structure of capital groups. Practical implications: The presented summary of the impact of the energy transition confirms that its presence triggers profound changes in the business model of the traditional energy company and its components. Originality/value: The article presents a synthesis of the regulatory, legal and market conditions shaping the scope and depth of the transformations in the energy sector. The article summarises a review of new business models in the power industry and defines directions of changes in the business model of an energy company, which were determined as a result of the research. The article also discusses a possible scenario for further restructuring and changes in the business model of an energy company in the light of governmental programmes for the transformation of coal production assets and hard coal mining.

    Organizational development as a modern management tool for transformation the company (case of Ukrainian energy company) The article is aimed at formation of the approaches and stages of organizational development for a large vertically integrated company, ensuring the country’s strategic security in the field of energy. The methodological basis of this work is the theory of the company’s life cycle, and it is proposed to complement the mentioned theory with the theory of spiral dynamics, reflecting the evolution of the company’s values. The approaches to organizational development are analysed and organizational development is defined. The possibility and necessity of management of organizational development are substantiated. As a result of the study, there were described the features of the organizational development of large energy company, and this is for the first time. The analysis of publications and world experience in the development of energy companies allowed proposing four basic stages of organizational development: team building and life cycle dynamics, value management and implementation tools. There is offered the use of organizational development as an instrument of management, which enables to achieve not only company development goals, but also to manage its values, achieve maximum employee involvement in development, and to shift from the management of the company to team work. Further research in this area it is advisable to carry out in detail the stage of organizational development and description of each stage’s tools.
    Celem artykułu jest kształtowanie się podejść i etapów rozwoju organizacyjnego dużej pionowo zintegrowanej firmy, zapewniającej strategiczne bezpieczeństwo kraju w energetyki. Podstawę metodologiczną artykułu stanowi teoria cyklu życia firmy, korzystanie z której proponuje się uzupełnić teorią dynamiki spiralnej, odzwierciedlająca zmiany wartości firmy. Przeanalizowano podejścia do rozwoju organizacyjnego i zdefiniowany jest rozwój organizacyjny. Uzasadniono możliwość i konieczność zarządzania rozwojem organizacyjnym. W wyniku badania po raz pierwszy zostały opisane właściwości rozwoju organizacyjnego poważnych firm energetycznych. Analiza publikacji i międzynarodowego doświadczenia rozwoju firm energetycznych pozwoliła zaproponować cztery główne etapy rozwoju organizacyjnego: kształtowanie zespołu, dynamika cyklu życiowego, zarządzanie wartościami, narzędzi wdrożeniowe. Korzystanie z rozwoju organizacyjnego jako narzędzia zarządzania pozwala nie tylko na realizację osiągnięcia celów rozwoju fi rmy, ale również na zarządzanie jej wartościami i osiągnięcie maksymalnego zaangażowania pracowników do rozwoju. Co w perspektywie doprowadzi do tego, że zarządzanie firmą zastąpi praca zespołowa. Późniejsze badania w tym kierunku docelowo przeprowadzać w fazie szczegółów rozwoju organizacyjnego i opisu instrumentów każdego z etapów.

    The article presents the overall frame and policies aimed at improving the energy efficiency in companies; the importance of education and the environmental aspect of energy efficiency have been stressed. The potential for applying mathematical methods for efficiency inter-pretation has been presented. Energy efficiency has been underlined as the key element of achieving the climatic and energy objectives in Poland and the European Union.
