Opis:
A finite-strain constitutive model of a superelastic NiTi shape memory alloy is proposed in this paper. Via backward Euler implicit integration scheme and the incorporation of material softening, the model is implemented into finite element code to reproduce a Lüders like deformation of a superelastic NiTi. The simulation results are in agreement with the experimental results, indicating that the constitutive model can reasonably predict the mechanical behavior of a superelastic NiTi. A parametric study further verifies that the magnitude of softening modulus has a significant effect on the stress-strain response and Lüders-like deformation of a superelastic NiTi.

This paper presents the review on available approaches to predicting consolidation settlement of cohesive soils. The progress of deformation in clays is visualized as the combination of hydrodynamic and rheological processes. The first part deals with infinitesimal consolidation theories. The second part is a review of finite strain solutions that describe consolidation of soils. Non-linear one-dimensional consolidation of a thin and thick clay deposit considering linear void ratiolog effective stress relationship, self-weight of soil, constant volume (1+void ratio), thickness of clay layer and coefficient of consolidation also were considered. This aspects was illustrated for different cases on the basis of variations of degree of consolidation obtained both for settlements and dissipation of excess pore water pressures. In addition attention was paid to non-linearity ofpermeability and compressibility during consolidation course, variablity of coefficient of consolidation and time-dependent soil response.

The article presents the results of reinforced concrete beams modeling under short-term loading with the use of the ANSYS Mechanical software. The obtained parameters were compared with the experimental ones. The comparison showed a satisfactory concordance of the parameters. In case of the discrepancies, the authors suggest that they are due to the idealization of material properties and structural model of the finite method. The paper is divided into the following chapters: Introduction, Literature Review, Research Significance, Element Types, Real Constants, Material Properties Modeling, Geometric Modeling, Loads and Boundary Conditions, Cracking and Failure and Conclusions. Each of the five conclusions in the last chapter offers a summary of the presented experimental research.

Opis:
In this paper, analysis of plastic deformation of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) during an equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE) process is investigated. The effects of ram speed, number of passes, processing route and temperature are tested experimentally using a 135◦ die. The results show that the pressing force decreases with an increase in the number of passes and reaches a saturation state rapidly for routes A and C compared to routes BA and BC . Furthermore, it is found that the reduced curvature of the extruded samples is obtained by route C, however, the maximum warping is obtained by route A. A slight influence of temperature on the reduction of the warping is observed on the extruded samples. In order to predict the plastic strain inside the extruded samples, an elastic viscoplastic model is identified using compressive tests at different strain rates and coupled with the finite element method (FEM). A good correlation is found between the numerical modeling and experimental findings. FEM results show that the PP samples display a higher level of plastic strain compared to HDPE samples. However, almost the same degree of strain heterogeneity is obtained for both polymers. Finally, in order to reduce the warping and improve the strain homogeneity, a controlled back-pressure with small corner angle is expected to be an adequate solution.

Opis:
Series of experiments and a detailed computational analysis has been performed to investigate the high strain rate behaviour of homostacked Al 6063-T6 and IS 1570 alloys. Split Hopkinson pressure bar technique was utilized to study the effect of high rate loading on the stress strain relationship of single, double, tri and quad layered/stacked specimens. Three different specimen aspect ratios 1, 0.75 and 0.5 were also evaluated for different strain rates. A 2 mm thick pulse shaper was employed in achieving dynamic stress equilibrium, a near constant strain rate and a high rise time as per requirements. After analyzing the results from the experiments it was observed that single and halved specimens showed a close match in both the elastic and plastic regions for aluminium alloy as well as for steel. In the case of Al 6063-T6, a nearly bi-linear nature of the constitutive curve was observed for single and halved specimens, which transformed into near tri-linear nature for tri and quad stacked specimens. The dynamic numerical analysis showed a good agreement between the numerical and experimental results for a single and halved specimen in the case of Al alloy. For steel, a close correlation was observed for all the four cases.

This paper presents the flexural response of reinforced geopolymer concrete (RGPC) beam. A commercial finite element (FE) software ABAQUS has been used to perform a structural behavior of RGPC beam. Using parameters such: stress, strain, Young’s modulus, and Poisson’s ratio obtained from experimental results, a beam model has been simulated in ABAQUS. The results from experimental test and ABAQUS simulation were compared. Due to friction forces at the supports and loading rollers; slip occurring, the actual deflection of RGPC beam from experimental test results were slightly different from the results of ABAQUS. And there is good agreement between the crack patterns of fly-ash based geopolymer concrete generated by FE analysis using ABAQUS, and those in experimental data.

The paper presents a FE-analysis of a spontaneous shear localization inside non-cohesive sand during plane strain compression. The calculations were carried out with a gradient-enhanced hypoplastic constitutive law. The hypoplastic law can reproduce essential features of granular bodies depending on the void ratio, pressure level and deformation direction. To model the thickness of shear zones, a characteristic length of the microstructure was incorporated via the second gradient of the modulus of the deformation rate. To determine the effect of micro-structure, the analysis was performed with different characteristic lengths for the same specimen size.

Opis:
A five-zone describing model for extrusion of aluminum/copper clad composite was established. Stress and strain were also analyzed by finite element method. The distribution rules of grain size were researched by critical shear strain theory, and zoning phenomenon of grain size was discovered. The grain size of deformed aluminum material becomes gradually finer from center to the interface. The grain size is much fine and the critical shear strain reaches the maximum value in the interface. The grain size of copper material reduces gradually from center to both the interface and exterior surface, which is caused by the higher value of critical shear strain in the interface and exterior surface. The analysis results were verified by microstructure observation and mechanical properties test, indicating that the distribution of grain size for cold extrusion forming can be interpreted by critical shear strain theory.

The paper presents a FE-analysis of shear localisation in granular bodies by a finite element method based on a hypoplastic constitutive law. The law can reproduce essential features of granular bodies depending on the void ratio, pressure level and deformation direction. To realistically simulate the formation of a spontaneous shear zone inside cohesionless sand during plane strain compression, a hypoplastic constitutive law was extended by non-local terms. The effects of initial void ratio, pressure level and a characteristic length on the thickness of an interior shear zone were shown. The numerical results were compared with corresponding laboratory tests.

This paper deals with modeling of monotonic tensile test of Cu-ETP copper in numerical environment using finite element method. The research aims to verify the capabilities of LS-Dyna software in terms of modeling the strain hardening and damage of the material. The numerical analyses were proceeded by experimental tests to determine the materials constants of isotropic hardening model and constant required for modeling of material’s damage. Determined material constants were implemented into LS-Dyna environment using MAT_Damage_3 material model. The specimen model was built using eight-node hexahedrons. Both in case of experimental and numerical tests, the controlled parameter was displacement of the specimen. Obtained strain-stress curves were analyzed and conclusions were drawn.

Opis:
Gas foil bearings belong to the group of slide bearings and are used in devices in which operation at high rotational speeds of the shafts are of key importance, e.g., in gas turbines. The air film developed on the surface of the bearing’s top foil allows this structural component to be separated from the shaft. This ensures a non-contact operation of the bearing. In the case of the mentioned type of bearings, their resultant operational properties are influenced by both thermal and mechanical phenomena. The current work presents a model of a gas foil bearing developed making use of the Finite Element Method. The model takes into account thermomechanical couplings which are necessary for the correct simulation of the operation of physical components of the modeled system. The paper reports the results of numerical analyzes conducted for the elaborated model as well as the relevant conclusions concerning thermomechanical couplings present in gas foil bearings. The method for the experimental identification of the temperature and strain fields in the bearing’s top foil proposed to validate the numerical model is also presented.

Opis:
The Barcelona model is one of the most widespread models used in the nonlinear finite element method for simulating the real behavior of concrete. The strong robustness of this model can be attributed to two main reasons, the first one being its ability to account for the elastic stiffness degradation induced by plastic straining and the second one the aptness of considering the stiffness recovery effects under cyclic loading. This model was examined in the paper by comparing the generated stress–strain diagrams with several analytical solutions from the literature. The comparing process in the compression and tension cases with the closed-form solutions of Desayi, Krätzig, Lubliner and Thorenfeldt proved that the Barcelona model provided identical outcomes with Lubliner’s formula, which was used as the hardening function in the finite element implementation of this model. What is more, this model provided the same curves in case of the others in the ascending branches, and for the descending branch, this study proved that the outcomes of the Barcelona model are completely different from the ones of Desayi in the compression case and slightly similar to Thorenfeldt’s curves in the tension case.
