Opis:
Wood fibreboard paraffin hydrophobization and the impact of this treatment on the board surface finishing quality. The aim of this paper is to analyse the causes of surface treatment defects in commercially produced wood fibreboards (FB). The analysis of: the obtained (measured and calculated) thermodynamic characteristics and of the results of microscopic examinations demonstrated that the excessive FB hydrophobization with paraffin may cause the paraffin to release from the FB surface and to migrate into the first primer layer. For the sanded FBs, similar paraffin migration was also observed into the second primer layer. This entailed lowered drying rate for the coating materials applied on FB, lower adhesion of the coating materials to the substrate and also lower adhesion between the particular coating layers applied. At the same time, the occurring frequency of surface treatment defects increased.

Opis:
This study aims to find the possibility of producing eco-friendly thin Medium Density Fibrepanels (MDF) with the participation of corn stalk fibres and using lignosulphonate as a bio-based binder. The main novelty in the research is the establishment of the effect of additional heat treatment on the properties of MDF manufactured with the participation of non-wood lignocellulosic raw materials and bonded with bio-based adhesive – lignosulphonate. Panels with 15% lignosulphonate content and variation of the content of corn stalk fibres from 0% to 30% were manufactured. Previous experiments showed that when only lignosulfonate is used as a binder, the manufactured panels generally have low waterproofness. To reduce the effect of this main disadvantage, the panels were subjected additionally to heat treatment. The properties of the MDF with and without additional heat treatment were compared. The effect of both the content of corn stalk fibres and the additional heat treatment was found. As a whole, the additional heat treatment improves the properties of MDF produced with lignosulphonate. Still, in case of increased content of corn stalk fibres, it is necessary to apply softened regimes than the ones selected for this study.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to produce a very low-density insulation wood fibreboard, in dry technology, with the use of post-production fibres. During the tests, different amounts of post-production fibres, coming from various stages of processing such as grinding, edges cutting, cutting to the required board size, milling and disqualification of faulty boards, were added to lightweight fibreboard. The amount of possible added post-production wood fibres strongly depends on the characteristic of the fibres and particles size distribution. The parameters of the lightweight board, the most influenced by the dimensions of the fibres used, are mainly thermal conductivity and compressive strength.
