Opis:
This paper proposes a method for adjusting light waves propagating in systems composed of photonic fibers, light sources and detection elements. The paper presents the properties of these connections in terms of the loss of signal transmission. Different fiber core areas were analyzed, and measurements of the mode-field diameters (MFDs) of selected fiber structures are presented. The study analyzed two types of LMA (Large Mode Area) fiber structures, and the mode-field diameters of these structures were measured on the basis of the radiation distribution obtained under near-field conditions. The results are compared to the values obtained for a SMF-28 single-mode fiber. The LMA structures analyzed in the paper are characterized by low sensitivity of the MFD parameter to the length of transmitted waves, which creates the possibility of their use as intermediate fibers when connecting optical fibers of different diameters. In the wavelength range from 800 nm to 1600 nm, a 3.5% MFD change was observed for the first investigated LMA structure, and a 1% change was observed for the second. In addition, measurements of the mode-field diameters were also made using the transverse offset method for comparison of the results.

Opis:
This work focuses on the study of red brick doped with reed fibers. These properties have been studied using characterizations techniques. In this context, we used Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis on the stability configuration, chemical structures and surface properties (morphology and porosity). The synthesis protocol is followed according to the manufacturing process of bricks on an industrial scale with well-defined standards and specifications. SEM and XRD experimental results showed that doping of clay fibers could effectively increase pore size and grain size as an indication of the removal of non-crystalline cellulosic materials from the fibers. The benefits of using fiber additives in clay bricks are then confirmed from a performance and environmental point of view.

Opis:
Study focused on the performance of injection moulded short Wallostonite filler and chopped glass fiber reinforced hybrid epoxy composites. Results showed that hybridization of glass fiber and Wallostonite was found to be comparable to that of epoxy glass fiber composites. Analysis of fiber length distribution in the composite and fracture surface was performed to study fiber breakage fracture mechanism. The simultaneous compounding of epoxy with two fillers was done to obtain a hybrid composite. The mechanical properties of hybrid, injection molded, chopped glass fiber/ Wallostonite/epoxy composites have been investigated by considering the effect of hybridization by these two fillers. This system is expected to have considerable mechanical properties. It has been found that the tensile, flexural, and impact properties of the filled epoxy were higher than those of unfilled epoxy. The hybrid effects of the tensile strength and modulus were studied by the rule of hybrid mixtures (RoHM) using the values of single fiber composites.

Opis:
A novel 9, 10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) graft γ-amino propyl triethoxy silane (KH550) was synthesized and introduced on the surface of wood fi ber. Finally DOPO-g-KH550 treated wood fi ber (DKTWF) was used to prepare DKTWF composite phenolic foams (DKTWFCPF). The structures of DOPO-g- KH550 was acknowledged by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (1 H-NMR). The structures of DKTWF were confirmed by FT-IR. Compared with wood fi ber, the diffraction peaks’ position was basically unchanged, but the crystallinity was slightly increased and thermal stability were dramatically improved, T5%  and Tmax  increased by 21.9° and 36.1° respectively. But the char yield (800°) was slightly reduced. With the dosage of DKWF, there were different degrees of improvement including the mechanical properties, flame retardancy and microstructure of DKTWFCPF. Comprehensive analysis, the interfacial compatibility was signifi cantly improved between DKTWF and phenolic resin, and the suitable content of DKTWF was 4%.

Opis:
The use of carbon fiber composites (CFC) for different applications is widespread. Carbon-based materials show, however, significant oxidative degradation in air. Modern materials are subjected to aggressive, corrosive environment. This type of environment may strongly reduce their mechanical properties. For the protection of CFC, it was necessary to apply coatings to the composite surface. In the presented paper, a chromium/chromium nitride (Cr/Cr2N) multilayer structure has been selected as the inner part. The outer part of the coating was a hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H), gradually implanted by Cr nanocrystals. The application of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) indicated that the proposed deposition method allowed the formation of a Cr/Cr2N multilayer of Λ = 150 nm, topped with a-C:H+ Cr23C6 composite of a varied carbides density. The micro-hardness of the deposited coatings was up to 14 GPa (at a load of 2 and 5 mN). The microstructure of the deposited coatings was described in detail by means of TEM in the authors’ recently published paper [1]. This paper is a continuation thereof, aimed at describing microstructure changes after a localized corrosion process. In order to study localized corrosion in coatings, particularly in metallic (Cr) interlayers, the potential measurements and voltammetry experiments were performed in a Ringer solution. The open-circuit potential reaches stable values after a sufficient time period. The results indicated that the presence of a-C:H+Cr23C6, the outer part of the coating, speeds up the localized corrosion process in Cr interlayers in the inner part of a coating.
