Opis:
In this paper, female stereotypes in Gavran’s drama entitled "Sve o ženama" (eng. "All about women") are analyzed. They are based on generation, society and culture. Comparing the original text of the drama and its Polish translation which is entitled Wszystko o kobietach corroborates the thesis that there are some universal female stereotypes which are created in the world of men. They attribute sensitivity, submissiveness, talkativeness, quarrelsomeness and specific language and social behaviours to women.

Opis:
It is still common for video games to be classified as a predominantly male pastime. Five years after GamerGate, women and non-binary people still meet with the harassment, sexism, and aggressive behavior (Fox and Tang 2017). On the other hand those games that target women specifically - sometimes called “pink games” - mostly include stereotypes, concentrating their themes around chores, cooking, and fashion. Furthermore, in mainstream games, the male representation of the main characters still overshadows the number of female playable characters. While the non-binary and transgender characters are hardly ever present, women characters are often pigeonholed as a narrative tool, mostly as a trope of “damsel in distress”, victim whose death is to be avenged, or the heterosexual love interest (Ivory 2006, Beck at al. 2012, Huntemann 2014). The parallels can be drawn between the over-sexualization of the playable action protagonists in digital games (Behm-Morawitz and Mastro 2009) and the disagreement to overt expressions of female masculinity in the society (Halberstam 1998). Drawing on Halberstam’s work and I will offer an analysis of Fetch, a protagonist of Infamous First Light (2014) - the standalone additional content to a series of video games developed by Sucker Punch Productions.

Opis:
This article focusses on the media representation of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner as portraited in the covers of the weekly magazine Noticias during her second mandate as president of Argentina, 2011–2015. Through a feminist review of the documental evidence, this text aims to determine the most prevalent patterns in the use of master suppression techniques and gender stereotypes in the media, discussing the representation of female politicians in visual and written narratives as it usually reinforces gender stereotypes in disadvantaged ways, damaging to the public image of female candidates and representatives. The results show how five identifiable gender stereotypes (the narcissist leader or the frivolous diva; the suffering lonely widow vs. the wicked widow; the hyper-sexualized or uncontrolled woman; the mentally sick or psychically unbalanced woman; and the unbearable woman) interplay with seven not exclusive but complementary master suppression techniques (making invisible; ridicule; withhold information; double bind or double punishment; blaming and humiliating or put to shame; objectifying; and violence, force or threat of force) in this media’s rejection, underestimation and mockery of female political leadership.

The research presented in the article focused on negative prescriptive stereotypes of femininity and masculinity. The aim of the research performed was to identify definitions of non-femininity and non-masculinity of student women. The study was conducted using a diagnostic survey method and a self-completed survey questionnaire on a randomly selected sample of 1152 female students. Statistical processing was performed in the PS IMAGO statistical package. Analysis revealed that female students’ definitions of non-femininity and non-masculinity mainly reflect the traditional model of femininity and masculinity, but attitudes towards the obligatory validity of this model are waning.

The article analyzes the way in which the modern car-advertisement defines the identity of women as potential purchasers – to whom it is designed to get through. The research includes language and iconic instruments by which this type of advertisement aims to create a feminized market of products formerly recognized as traditionally masculine. The identification of the addressee of each publicity material might be subsumed under a set of stereotypes, thus enabling advertisers to get across their message using the code of addressee’s own values. The present paper concentrates on the linguistic specifity of the ads for high-tech goods (automobiles) targeting the feminine public and eventually points out their high degree of markedness according to the sex of addressees. Discourse analysis and a closer look at linguistic means appearing in French, Spanish and Polish automotive commercials both reveals a stereotyped woman’s image and shows how they happen to perpetutate it.

Opis:
The article presents the foundations, symptoms and consequences of self-hatred as experienced by Geraldine, the black female character portrayed in Toni Morrison’s first novel, The Bluest Eye. Primarily, based on the psychological concepts of Rosenberg, Higgins and Horney, it defines self-loathing as an extremely negative self-concept, a depreciation of one’s own physical attractiveness, intellect and abilities which is accompanied by anger towards oneself. The key characteristic of this process is expressed by a decreased level of self-esteem that is effectuated by an internalization of negative in- and out-group concepts based on racial prejudice and sexism, as well as on a sense of social rejection and intolerance. An additional reason behind the black woman’s conviction of her inferiority and unworthiness is her idealization of white culture, of its standards of beauty and lifestyle with which she is bombarded. In consequence, the black female character tends to overestimate the image of whiteness and to underestimate her blackness. Instead, by being an organic part of the culture that detests her, she learns to hate her dark skin, her poverty, otherness and funkiness. This acquired hatred generates a discrepancy between her actual self and the ideal or ought self, effectuating in a neurotic desire to eradicate all attributes of the actual, despised self. Therefore, Geraldine disparages, doubts and discredits the epitomes of her blackness and bitterly endeavors to eradicate it. To achieve this, she firstly obliterates her native and cultural identity, both in the physical and mental dimension, and secondly she invents a new identity which allows her to escape from her hopelessness and ugliness.

Opis:
The paper considers male and female images in the Yakut fairy tales as a component of cultural programming of gender behavior in a tribal society. The analysis of the Yakut fairy tales reveals that the main male characters whole being integral are represented as a rule by three types – in the image of heroes, hunters and poor men. Female images are more diverse, among them there are girls of the Upper World and udagans (shaman women), endowed with magical powers and the gift of transformation; girls of the Middle World, who can be both passive and active characters; the third group of female images is represented by old women, who are often embodied in the collective image of the old woman Simekhsin. The results of the analysis suggest that the masculine images correspond to the stereotypical male behavior patterns in the patriarchate society, while the feminine images may deviate from the accepted gender stereotypes for various reasons.

The article is focused on the most common stereotypes existing in social perception of women providing sexual services. The presented research findings are related to two detailed problems: (1) How women offering sexual services are perceived in virtual space, which creates the possibility of complete anonymity of speech? (2) What are the stereotypes about sex workers presented on Internet forums on prostitution? An analysis of 20 online forums including 2,403 posts in which prostitution is the main subject defining a framework for discussion was carried out, using qualitative analysis strategies. The selection of online forums was made on the basis of the web engine search results for two questions: “What do you think about prostitution?”, “What do you think about women prostitutes?”. The research implementation and analysis took place in September to October 2013. The stereotypes about female sex workers appearing on the Internet forums were grouped into certain categories, having the ordering character. These are the stereotypes perceived in the context of the causes of prostitution (indicating a certain personality, environmental or cultural factors), the characteristics of female sex workers (mostly negative, demonstrating definite character traits) and the specificity of their working conditions.

The article is about the ambivalent nature of the discourse on female politicians in socio-political weeklies such as ‘Polityka’, ‘Newsweek’, ‘Wprost’, where a neutral description of political activism of women is intertwined with gender-biased terms. Gender, with the cultural identity ascribed to it, becomes the argument differentiating the language of description — starting from an asymmetric use of the forms of address describing politicians of both sexes, collocations and metaphors illustrating stereotypical female figures, to the interpretation of political events in erotic and psychological categories.

W artykule przedstawiono analizę prac A. Matrunionka, A. Adamowicza, A. Jaskiewicza i innych badaczy, które dotyczą kwestii reprezentacji kobiet w prozie mężczyzn. Artykuł przedstawia różne podejścia pisarzy-mężczyzn do tworzenia postaci kobiecych.
The works of A. Matrunenak, A. Adamovich, A. Yaskevich and other resear¬chers who addressed the problem of representation of women in men's prose are examined in the article. For Belarusian literary criticism of the 1960s – 1980s period, this problem was not of central importance but was raised in the analysis of the works written by J. Kolas, M. Zaretsky, K. Chorny and I. Shemyakin. The authors' personal experience, as well as the realism and psychological accuracy of the characters were immensely important for the researchers. The difference in gender experience was one of the reasons for creative failures in the development of female images. The article outlines different approaches to the creation of female characters.
