Opis:
One of the most critical problems in all practical systems is the presence of uncertainties, internal and external disturbances, as well as disturbing noise, which makes the control of the system a challenging task. Another challenge with the physical systems is the possibility of cyber-attacks that the system’s cyber security against them is a critical issue. The systems related to oil and gas industries may also be subjected to cyber-attacks. The subsets of these industries can be mentioned to the oil and gas transmission industry, where ships have a critical role. This paper uses the Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT) method to design a robust controller for the ship course system, aiming towards desired trajectory tracking. The proposed controller is robust against all uncertainties, internal and external disturbances, noise, and various possible Deception, Stealth, and Denial-of-Service (DOS) attacks. The robust controller for the ship system is designed using the QFT method and the QFTCT toolbox in MATLAB software. Numerical simulations are performed in MATLAB/Simulink for two case studies with disturbances and attacks involving intermittent sinusoidal and random behavior to demonstrate the proposed controller.

Opis:
Video-feedback Intervention to promote Positive Parenting and Sensitive Discipline (VIPP-SD) is a therapeutic intervention based on video-feedback which aims to support positive parenting and sensitive parental discipline. It is a part of evidence-based therapeutic interventions, which means that the effectiveness of the training has been confirmedin rigorously planned and carried out studies of both the general population and various clinical groups. The theoretical framework for VIPP-SD is attachment theory and coercion theory. The basic principle of intervention is referring to family resources in the therapeutic work, primarily in situations in which the correct course of a child’s development can be disturbed by both biological and environmental factors. The article presents the aspects of the application of VIPP-SD in the following clinical groups: families with children at risk of improper development, families in which the functioning of parents creates the development risk for children, and the family environment as a risk factor for children’s development.

Opis:
The affirmative answer to the title question is justified in two ways: logical and empirical. (1) The logical justification is due to Gödel’s discovery (1931) that in any axiomatic formalized theory, having at least the expressive power of PA (Peano Arithmetic), at any stage of development there must appear unsolvable problems. However, some of them become solvable in a further development of the theory in question, owing to subsequent investigations. These lead to new concepts, expressed with additional axioms or rules. Owing to the so-amplified axiomatic basis, new routine procedures like algorithms, can be reached. Those, in turn, help to gain new insights which lead to still more powerful axioms, and consequently again to ampler algorithmic resources. Thus scientific progress proceeds to an ever higher scope of solvability. (2) The existence of such feedback cycles – in a formal way rendered with Turing’s systems of logic based on ordinal (1939) – gets empirically supported by the history of mathematics and other exact sciences. An instructive instance of such a process is found in the history of the number zero. Without that insight due to some ancient Hindu mathematicians there could not arise such an axiomatic theory as PA. It defines the algorithms of arithmetical operations, which in turn help intuitions; those, in turn, give rise to algorithmic routines, not available in any of the previous phases of the process in question. While the logical substantiation of the point of this essay is a well-established result of logico-semantic inquiries, its empirical claim, based on historical evidences, remains open for discussion. Hence the author’s intention to address philosophers and historians of science, and to encourage their critical responses.

Opis:
A stabilization problem of second-order systems by non-linear feedback is considered. We discuss the case when only position feedback is available. The non-linear stabilizer is constructed by placing actuators and sensors in the same location and by using a parallel compensator. The stability of the closed-loop system is proved by LaSalle's theorem. The distinctive feature of the solution is that no transformation to a first-order system is invoked. The results of analytic and numerical computations are included to verify the theoretical analysis and the mathematical formulation.

Opis:
In this paper, an improved version of a current to voltage (C-V) converter is proposed. As compared to the previous version, the number of used transistors has been reduced by 1 and equals 7. The main results of this change are: an improvement of the circuit transfer function linearity, reduction the converter input resistance and decrease of the required supply voltage. Improvements in the considered converter results not only from the reduction of the number of the used transistors but also from the proposed realization of the feedback loop. In this way, it was possibly to get a strong loop gain. As a results, the achieved minimum supply voltage has been reduces from 2V, in case of the previous published converter version, to as low level as 1.2 V, in the case of the newly proposed solution. As for the linearity of the C-V transfer function, apart from its strong loop gain, an important role play also output transistors operating in a small drain to source region (linear region). Working in this region, one obtains a quasi linear voltage to current relationship. The theoretical and simulation results are in a good agreement and are promising.
