    Previous research examining the relationship between religion and attitudes about death have yielded mixed results due to over-simplified conceptualizations of constructs, lack of theory, and an over-reliance on Western samples. To overcome these issues, the present study examined the relationship between three types of religious orientation and two types of death attitudes among a sample of 532 college students in Poland. The results demonstrated unique relations between religion and death attitudes, as well emphasized the importance of considering religious engagement as a moderating variable. Although the results were generally consistent with Terror Management Theory, other theoretical perspectives were considered as well.

    A la fin des années 50, les Etats-Unis installent une base à Meung-sur-Loire, où se déroule L’Occupation américaine de Pascal Quignard. Pour le héros du roman, cet « autre monde » est à la fois objet de fascination et de répulsion. On se propose d’étudier comment se construit l’image que renvoie l’altérité d’une civilisation décrite du point de vue de l’occupé et qui contraint celui-ci à s’examiner lui-même. Ainsi liée à la découverte de l’autre en soi, cette image empêche le lecteur de se replier derrière une opposition figée des valeurs.
    In the late 1950s, the United States set up a military base in Meung-sur-Loire, where Pascal Quignard’s L’Occupation américaine is set. For the hero of the novel, this “other world” is at once an object of fascination and an object of repulsion. In this paper, we discuss how the image of the otherness of a civilization described from the point of view of the occupied party is construed and how it forces that party to examine itself. This image, thereby linked to the discovery of the Other in oneself, prevents the reader from withdrawing behind a fixed opposition of values.

    The objecive of the paper is to answer the following questions: • How was the role of Geography among other school subjects was changing during education system transformation in Poland? • How were the students' attitudes towards Geography as a school subject were changing at that time? In order to meet the above objectives, a three-stage survey was conducted: in 1989, in 2002 and in 2010. Questionnaire containing 22 questions was a basic research tool. The questionnaire concerned students' attitudes toward Geography as a school subject. It was observed that the students had been interested in Geography before the education system reform. It was perceived as a useful subject, both in further education and day-to-day life. Unfortunately, in the following years of transformation, after the introduction of education system reform, students' attitudes towards Geography changed. The students did no longer appreciate this subject. They more and more often suggest that Geography is a subject which does not arouse interest.

    Hasło stara się wyjaśnić, jakie mechanizmy rządzą znanym każdemu czytelnikowi utworów literackich doznaniem szczególnego wstrząsu estetycznego wywołanego przez mały fragment utworu lub nawet pojedyncze zdanie. Po przedstawieniu kilku najogólniejszych, możliwych sposobów rozumienia kategorii trafności, autor przechodzi do rozważań na temat odcieni znaczeniowych, jakich może ona nabierać, w zależności od tego, czy traktowana jest jako immanentna cecha danej wypowiedzi literackiej, czy też jako jakość kształtująca się dopiero w procesie jej odbioru.
    This entry attempts to explain what the mechanisms that govern the experience, familiar to every reader of literary works, of a particular aesthetic frisson elicited by a small passage in a work or even a single sentence. After presenting a handful of very general ways of understanding the category of aptness, the author moves to consider the subject of the possible shades of meaning it can take on depending on whether we treat it as an immanent trait of a given literary utterance or as a quality that takes form only during the process of the work’s reception.

    Tadeusz Mysłowski, born in 1943 in the village of Piotrków near Lublin, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, left Poland in 1969. His first destination was Paris and then, in 1970, the United States. From that moment on, he has been living and working in New York, a city that has become an inexhaustible source of inspiration for him. Fascinated by the urban layout of Manhattan, its astounding network of streets, he abandoned traditional painting techniques in favour of a black-and-white series of drawings, prints, collages, photomontages and installations, created in the spirit of geometric abstraction and Constructivism, the art trends that were particularly dear to him. His works display transformed portions of the architectural structures of this extraordinary city with which the artist conducts a never-ending formal discourse. Mysłowski has always been supported by his wife Irena Hochman, an art historian by education, owner of a notable art gallery and an important figure in the American art market. Tadeusz and Irena share not only a passionate relationship, but also a great collector's passion, which has resulted in the creation of an interesting collection of works by Polish, European and American artists who were primarily active in the 20th century. These are exclusively works on paper, mainly prints made using all possible graphic techniques. In 2017, the couple donated a part of the collection to the then Lublin Museum (now the National Museum in Lublin) and placed some of the artworks on a long-term loanść dokonania zmian w kulturze.

Zafascynowany układem urbanistycznym Manhattanu, niezwykłą siatką jego ulic, zrezygnował z uprawiania tradycyjnego malarstwa na rzecz czarno-białych cykli rysunków, grafik, kolaży, fotomontaży i instalacji, utrzymanych w duchu szczególnie mu bliskiej abstrakcji geometrycznej i konstruktywizmu. Tadeusza i Irenę łączy nie tylko płomienna miłość, ale także ogromna pasja kolekcjonerska, która zaowocowała powstaniem interesującego zbioru dzieł artystów polskich, europejskich i amerykańskich, czynnych przede wszystkim w XX wieku.     W artykule omówiono książkę Adriana Glenia Andrzej Stasiuk. Istnienie, która odwołuje się do tradycji hermeneutycznej w badaniach literackich. Perspektywę, z której Gleń analizuje prozę Stasiuka, w dużym stopniu wyznaczają problemy podjęte przez Martina Heideggera, a także postulaty „krytyki identyfikującej się” przedstawiciela szkoły genewskiej Georges’a Pouleta. Praca ukazuje szerszy kontekst zagadnień dotyczących autobiografizmu, polemizując z zaproponowaną przez Glenia interpretacją „bez biograficznych natręctw”. Omówione zostały również trudności metodologiczne związane z uprawianiem krytyki literackiej pod wpływem fascynacji analizowaną twórczością. Autor szczególnie wyeksponował te praktyki literaturoznawcze, które eksplorują kategorię doświadczenia.
    This essay discusses Adrian Gleń’s book Andrzej Stasiuk. Istnienie, which refers to the hermeneutical tradition in literary studies. The perspective from which Gleń analyzes Stasiuk’s prose is largely determined by Martin Heidegger’s philosophy, as well as postulates of “self-identifying criticism” by Georges Pulet of the Geneva School. The essay presents a broader context for issues related to autobiographism, polemizing with Gleń’s interpretation “without biographical intrusions”. Additionally, methodological issues related to literary criticism under the influence of fascination with the analyzed works are discussed. The essay focuses on literary studies practices which explore the category of experience.
