    Aim. In the last three to four decades, many technological changes have taken place that have affected the world, the family and the relationships between family members. In order to determine the impact of information and communication technology on the family and its members, and how much time the research participants spend using modern technology, a survey was conducted in which 160 respondents (parents) participated. Methods. The research used a measuring instrument designed precisely for the purposes of this research. It consisted of three independent variables (gender, parental age and child's age) and nine dependent variables grouped into three sets: electronic media and time of their use, the impact of modern technology on family relationships and impact on the health of the children of the research participants. The Likert-type scale, adapted to the needs of this research, was used. Results. The research results show: the respondents' answers regarding the variable of “How much time your child spends using information and communication technologies (ICT)" are statistically significant (c2 = 48.650, p < .000); the correlation between the variables ("Gender" and "Do you talk to your children about the negative impact of ICT") is r = .180 and is significant at the .05 level; (3) the respondents' answers regarding the variable ("The knowledge of ICT in the early childhood is essential") are statistically significant (c2 = 43.438, p < .000); (4) the correlation between the variables ("The use of ICT affects family relationships" and "It affects the health of the child") is r = .194 and is significant at the .05 level. Conclusion. Children no longer live under the constant supervision of their parents, but are given the freedom to develop, think and form opinions independently. As a result, they are increasingly left to different environmental influences.

    Objectives Malignant mesothelioma is closely associated to asbestos exposure. One such exposure may occur through contact with occupationally exposed household members and their belongings. This study examines the features of pleural mesothelioma attributable only to asbestos brought home by another family member. Material and Methods The data sources were 1063 mesothelioma cases diagnosed between 1995 and 2014, from the Friuli Venezia Giulia Mesothelioma Register. In all cases the diagnosis of mesothelioma was based on the pathology report. Exposure information and demographic data were acquired by an occupational medical standardized questionnaire/interview. Results Household-exposure mesothelioma cases included 33 women and 2 men. Relationships were: wives (N = 22), daughters (N = 9), sons (N = 2), and mothers (N = 2). Asbestos exposure in the workers predominantly occurred in shipyards. Out of the 35 pleural cases, 19 were epithelial, 9 biphasic, 3 sarcomatoid, and 4 not specified. The mean age at diagnosis was 77 years old. The mean latency was 59 years, with wives having a significant shorter latency than offspring. Latency was not significantly related to morphology and asbestosis. The overall mean survival was 16 months (median 11 months) but treatment was beneficial (mean 16 months vs. 7 months). Biphasic/sarcomatoid histology and presence of asbestosis were associated with a decreased survival, although not with statistical significance. Conclusions Our data confirms that household exposure increases the risk for pleural mesothelioma amongst women with no history of occupational asbestos exposure. This is an ongoing problem in many countries, as well as in Italy, where the evaluation of a framework for the compensation of these cases is under debate.     The right of family members of Union citizens to live with them in the host Member State has always been considered essential for an effective freedom of movement of citizens. However, the provisions of Directive 2004/38/EC contain a different description of the scope of rights of family members of Union citizens taking advantage of the freedom of movement of persons as to the possibility of accompanying or joining EU citizens taking advantage of the freedom of movement of persons, depending on whether they belong to the circle of ‘closer’ or ‘distant’ family members. This issue acquires particular significance in the context of family members who are not citizens of any Member State of the Union. For individuals belonging to the circle of ‘closer’ family members, the EU legislator grants the subjective right to accompany or join a Union citizen exercising the right of the freedom of movement of persons. In the latter case, the legislator only obliges the host Member States to facilitate entry and residence for such individuals in accordance with their national legislation. The glossed judgment, by determining the status of individuals under legal guardianship within the framework of the Algerian kafala system as a ‘distant’ family member of a Union citizen, clearly touches upon a significant issue in the context of the Union’s freedom of movement of persons.

    In the age of globalization, hectic pace of life and losing the individual characteristics of communities is widespread. Therefore, it is necessary to record and analyse the language and culture which survive in the memory of the older generation or have been preserved in their daily lives. Turks living in the Balkans, who have flooded into this area in different historical periods, came under the process of slavization, but for centuries were an important part of the Ottoman Empire, which had impact on both their language and customs. This paper aims to present the vocabulary on kinship and names of family members preserved in this language (more precisely in the dialect of Milino village and the surrounding area). On the basis of this vocabulary, it is possible to investigate phonetic changes which have taken place in the Turkish language of Turks living in north-eastern Bulgaria. The fact that the terms of kinship have survived proves that the form of family life has not changed, despite the socio-cultural transformations.

    Opis:
    Essential problem of the research is an attempt that is to show some selected aspects of changes taking place in modern family. Economical and social ones- last decades' cultural transformations have been democratizing inner lives of families, reorganizing the arrangement of forces which work in them, affecting on development of autonomous individual idea, more and more recreating the ideas which are dominant in both political and social life: democracy, liberalism or individualism. In Polish modern society coexist different family models: post-traditional, modernistic and post-modern one. Basing on the studies with ethnographical character, in free narrations I try to identify the factors of functioning of families that constitute particular family model. An important goal is “careful listening” to the narration in such a special way to find out about the determinants of family chances and risks during the process of accommodation to new reality. The research focused on matters which concerned: organizing a family life, parental relationships, relations between parents and their child and the problem of communication character. Presentation of pictures from family life, experienced successes and difficulties allow to look into the families' present problems and to draw a life panorama of Polish families.

    Żydowska rodzina Flatau na początku XIX w. osiadła w Płocku i zamieszkiwała tu do początków XX w., kiedy Edward Flatau i inni członkowie rodziny opuścili Płock. Przez niemal 100 lat swej obecności w Płocku odgrywała ważną rolę nie tylko wśród społeczności żydowskiej. Jej przedstawiciele prowadzili m.in. firmę handlowo-bankową oraz dom Opieki dla Starców i Kalek. Współcześnie widomym śladem obecności rodziny jest pałacyk Flatauów przy ul. Kolegialnej, w którym mieści się płocki Urząd Stanu Cywilnego.
    The Jewish Flatau family settled in Płock at the beginning of the 19th century and lived here until the beginning of the 20th century, when Edward Flatau moved to Warsaw. For almost 100 years of its presence in Płock, it played an important role not only among the Jewish community. Its representatives led, among others a trading and banking company and a poorhouse for Jews. Nowadays, a visible trace of the presence is the Flataów Palace at ul. Kolegialna, which houses the Registry Office of Płock.

    Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie specyfiki działalności innowacyjnej w przedsiębiorstwach rodzinnych oraz zaproponowanie autorskiej klasyfikacji modelowych postaw członków rodziny wobec działalności innowacyjnej wraz z ich krótką charakterystyką. Na podstawie przeglądu literatury przedmiotu oraz analizy wyników dotychczas prowadzonych badań wykazano, że cecha rodzinności może zarówno sprzyjać, jak i ograniczać działalność innowacyjną w firmach rodzinnych. Jednak decydujący wpływ na poziom innowacyjności tych podmiotów ma zaangażowanie członków rodziny w działalność innowacyjną. Opierając się na dwóch kryteriach – „poziom zaangażowania rodziny w inicjowaniu działań innowacyjnych” oraz „zaangażowanie rodziny w realizację działalności innowacyjnej” – autorzy zidentyfikowali cztery modelowe postawy rodziny wobec działalności innowacyjnej, tj. (1) postawę aktywnego inicjatora, (2) postawę aktywnego wykonawcy, (3) postawę aktywnego inicjatora i wykonawcy oraz (4) postawę pasywną (bierną). Preferowanymi postawami sprzyjającymi innowacyjności są „postawa aktywnego inicjatora” oraz „postawa aktywnego inicjatora i wykonawcy”, pozostałe dwie postawy natomiast nie sprzyjają innowacyjności rodzinnych podmiotów.
    The aim of the article is to present the specificity of innovative activity in family enterprises and to propose an original classification of model attitudes of family members towards innovative activity along with their short characteristics. Based on the review of the literature on the subject and the analysis of the results of research conducted so far, it has been shown that the family character feature can both favor and limit innovative activity in family businesses. However, the involvement of family members in innovative activities has a decisive impact on the level of innovation of these entities. Based on two criteria – “the level of family involvement in initiating innovative activities” and “family involvement in the implementation of innovative activities” – the authors identified four model family attitudes to[1]wards innovative activities, i.e.: (1) the attitude of an active initiator, (2) the attitude of an active performer, (3) an active initiator and performer attitude, and (4) a passive (passive) attitude. The preferred attitudes favoring innovation are the “attitude of an active initiator” and the “attitude of an active initiator and contractor”, while the other two attitudes are not conducive to innovativeness of family entities.

    Opis:
    Labour migration between Poland and Germany poses challenges for migrant care workers as well as for their families. Migrant care workers have to develop strategies to compensate for their physical absence in the daily lives of their family members. Nevertheless, working in the domestic care, especially the so-called 24-hours-care offers several possibilities to deal with these challenges. The goal of this study was to find out how migrant care workers from Poland organize their family lives from a distance and to what extent do their employers or clients commit themselves for the cause. For the purpose of this study 26 problem-centred semi-structured interviews with mainly female and a few male commuter migrants from Poland were carried out. The data analysis identified two strategies of organizing family life during absence. One group fosters a so-called intimacy from distance or virtual intimacy. They use various media, for example the internet, mobile or landline phones, to almost continuously stay in contact with their families in Poland. The other group manages to create conditions at their workplace which allow them to bring along their family members (mainly small children) for a short period of time or even for the whole duration of the employment. This solution depends on an agreement and cooperation with their clients. It appeared that the presence of family members at the workplace brings both families (of migrant workers and of clients) closer and creates a fictive kinship. In some cases it leads to conflicts. The understanding on behalf of the employers and the possibilities to stay in an intense and regular contact with their family influence the migrants’ work satisfaction, increase their ability to cope with stress and encourages an extended sense of the term ‘family’.

    A newly discovered necropolis on the Upper Terrace of the Temple of Hatshepsut was in use from the Twenty-second until the beginning of the Twenty-sixth Dynasty. The archaeological material coming from the backfill of the tombs proved to be mixed but datable. Interesting observations concern the structure and architecture of the tombs and their substructure.

    Depresja według Światowej Organizacji Zdrowia (WHO) jest coraz częściej występującą chorobą współczesnego człowieka. Według niektórych prognoz – przy obecnym wzroście zachorowań na depresję – już w 2020 roku może się ona stać drugą przyczyną zgonów wśród osób dorosłych. Narastająca skala problemu nie obejmuje tylko osób do rosłych, ale coraz częściej dotyka dzieci i młodzież. Brak precyzyjnych i jednoznacznych badań powoduje, iż w danych mówiących o depresji wśród dzieci i młodzieży istnieją spore rozbieżności. Szacuje się, iż wśród dzieci zachorowalność wynosi około 2%, natomiast wśród nastolatków od 8% do 20%. Procentowo nie wygląda to niepokojąco, ale, gdy się spojrzy na zagadnienie w liczbach – według danych GUS za 2014 rok – dzieci (w wieku od 0 do 12) to około 100 500, natomiast wśród młodzieży (13–18 lat) to około 1 345 000. Wobec takich liczb należy stwierdzić, iż nie jest to zjawisko marginalne. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest nakreślenie specyfiki zaburzeń depresyjnych wśród dzieci i młodzieży, poprzez podanie ogólnych cech depresji, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem tych, które są charakterystyczne dla dzieci i nastolatków, co pozwoli stworzyć sylwetkę młodego człowieka dotkniętego takimi zaburzeniami. Ponadto autor będzie się starał ukazać podstawowe błędy – szczególnie otoczenia rodzinnego – w rozpoznawaniu oraz podejściu do osób cierpiących na depresję, a także nakreśli wizję konkretnych form wsparcia, które jest niezbędne w zmaganiach z depresją.
    Depression, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), is a more and more frequent illness of the contemporary man. According to some predictions, at the current increasing rate of falling ill with depression, by 2020 it might become the second biggest cause of deaths amongst adults. The growing scale of the problem does not refer to adults only, but is increasingly affecting children and teenagers. The lack of precise and explicit research into statistics about depression amongst children and teenagers causes considerable divergence. It is estimated that in the case of children, morbidity amounts to 2%, while it varies from 8% up to 20% amongst teenagers. In percentage terms it does not seem alarming, but if you look at the issue in numbers, according to GUS data for 2014, the number of children (aged 0 to 12) totals 100,500, however, amongst young people (aged 13–18) the number reaches about 1,345,000. Facing such numbers, one should admit that this is not a marginal phenomenon. The purpose of this paper is to depict the character of depressive disorders amongst children and teenagers, giving general the features of depression and concentrating in particular on the ones typical of children and teenagers. It will allow us to create the profile of a young man stricken with such disorders. Moreover, the author will try to portray basic mistakes, especially those of home environment, in identifying and in the approach to people suffering from depression and he will also frame the vision of specific forms of support, which are necessary in the struggle with depression.

    This article provides an overview of the most important information on German invalidity insurance in the case of the insured partys death or divorce. The author presents statistical data on the scale of the particular types of family situation within German society, and discusses the provisions referring to the conditions of acquiring entitlements to benefits due to the risks described above. An attempt at evaluating this part of the social security system concludes the text.

    The study presents the current legal regulations and problems with the implementation of procedural rights of a minor victim in the case of crimes committed by members of his family in the Polish legal system. The presented issue concerns the necessity to apply provisions contained in various acts, both public and private law. The author discusses the most important judgements of Polish jurisprudence in the indicated scope, emphasizing, however, that many aspects of the discussed issues, of a procedural nature, have still not been regulated. The conclusions include de lege ferenda postulates concerning, i.a., the transfer to the criminal court of the competence to appoint a guardian ad litem for disadvantaged minors.
    W opracowaniu omówiono aktualnie obowiązujące regulacje prawne oraz problemy dotyczące realizacji uprawnień procesowych małoletniego pokrzywdzonego w przypadku przestępstw popełnionych przez członków jego rodziny w polskim porządku prawnym. Przedstawiona problematyka dotyczy konieczności zastosowania rozwiązań zawartych w różnych ustawach, o charakterze zarówno publiczno-, jak i prywatnoprawnym. Autor omawia najważniejsze rozstrzygnięcia polskiego orzecznictwa we wskazanym zakresie, podkreślając jednak, że wiele aspektów poruszanej problematyki, o charakterze procesowym, wciąż nie zostało uregulowanych. W konkluzji zamieszczono postulaty de lege ferenda, dotyczące m.in. przeniesienia na sąd karny kompetencji ustanawiania kuratora procesowego dla małoletnich pokrzywdzonych.

    Opis:
    The article explores the key issues and needs of families of participants in anti-terrorist operation (ATO). The article defines and characterizes several types of families of ATO participants, who took part in an interview. Based on in-depth interviews and further analysis, the authors identified four categories of problems of these families, e.g., psychological, financial, legal, and problems with raising children. It was determined that violations of the life of the families whose members were ATO participants were caused not only by family-specific problems but also by several other factors. Based on the identified specific problems, the authors identified the main needs of the families of the members of antiterrorist operations.

    Opis:
    The social security of servicemen and their families is one of the most important objectives for the state. The conditions of service and life of servicemen have never been very comfortable. The only financial source for military families has often been the allowance of the head of the family. The article is devoted to the activities of government and military authorities to ensure rights and privileges guaranteed by the law for the servicemen and their families. The level of financial and medical support for the servicemen as well as shortcomings of social security and legal protection are investigated. It has been noted that creating a system of social security and benefits for military personnel should compensate the additional load that they experience while on duty.
    Социальная защита военнослужащих и членов их семей является одной из важнейших государственных задач. Условия службы и быта военнослужащих никогда не отличались повышенной комфортностью. Единственным материальным источником существования для семьи военнослужащего часто было и остается только денежное содержание главы семьи. В статье проанализирована деятельность государственных и военных органов по обеспечению военнослужащих и членов их семей правами и льготами, которые гарантируются законодательством. Исследован уровень материального и медицинского обеспечения военнослужащих, а также недостатки их социально-правовой защиты. Отмечено, что создание системы социальных гарантий и льгот для военнослужащих должно компенсировать дополнительные нагрузки, которые они испытывают во время несения службы.
