Opis:
The family, the child's first environment in which his social traits are formed, is imposed upon him and all it is able and wants  to offer him is given to him without his consent, choice, and frequently  awareness. The parents or persons who replace them decide for the child and organize his existence in his interest in the early stages of his life, and hand down to him the norm sand values according to their own consciousness and beliefs. All of their activities, aimed at the child and at other persons or things as well as their way of perception of and reaction to outer factors, constitute the fabric from which the child derives patterns for his own behaviour. The parents and the closest environment shape the child’s attitude towards himself and other persons through purposeful action and through situations specially created or rendered  accessible to the child. In the early childhood in particular, before the child goes to school, his parents play the leading part in his development. For this reason, their human quality is of importance. Despite the fact that there is a vast literature on the  family the specialists and practicians in social sciences keep submitting new problems that want explanation. The prognosis of the child's future fate depends first of all on his family environment. The child's socialization, development and mental growth take a normal course if conditions have been provided for his needs to be satisfied. Particularly in the case of a child, the need of love, and attachment predominates among mental needs, with that of favourable contacts with other persons developing somewhat later. A child accepted by his family and cherished with affection –provided he is convinced of that - feels safe and believes that his guardians act for his benefit. The climate at home which is created first and foremost by the parents, is not only important for the child's development but frequently leaves  permanent traces in the mind of an adult –often as patterns of  behaviour. Children devoid of favourable conditions of socialization in their families often cause serious educational problems and are commonly  defined as difficult. The origins of their maladjustment can first of ,all be found in a faulty socialization which makes them more open to bad influence and more apt to break the obligatory social and legal norms. In studies of juvenile delinquents, the symptoms of disturbances in their families are usually found.             Divorce is always a result of certain anomalies within the family and brings about disadvantageous conditions for the child's socialization. The future way or life of the child is usually difficult to forecast, during proceedings before the court in particular. For this reason, in more difficult or even doubtful cases, the court appoints an expert who is usually a psychologist or an educator. Admittedly, the expert's observations and findings influence the court’s decision; yet after the decision has become valid and the further course of events does not call for reopening of the proceedings, hardly anybody cares whether the decision concerning the child was really in his interest and whether the situation imposed upon him corresponds with his wishes.             At the Faculty of Psychology of the Warsaw University, examinations ordered by the court have for many years been performed in case of children and young persons, including divorce cases of parents, Examination took at least 2-3 visits which rendered possible a comprehensive appraisal of the environment and of the child entangled in his parents conflict. Examination ordered by the court went beyond the child's future situation, including his past and future as well. This made it possible to roughly estimate the influence of a new family situation on the further course of the child's mental development and process of socialization. A follow-up was planned beforehand to verify the conclusions of the examination and the court’s decision. It was interesting to learn about the child's further fate, to compare it with the earlier prognosis, and to examine the child's attitude towards his previous situation (during his parents divorce) and the influence it exerted on him.             The above follow-up was conducted in 1984. A hundred persons from Warsaw who had grown of age after the divorce proceedings were included in the study. Therefore, while at the moment of the examination the youngest examined person was aged 2, and the eldest nearly 18, at the moment of follow-up, the previously examined as children were aged 18 to over 30. The time between these two examinations varied from 5 to over 17 years. Only the youngest subjects were just finishing secondary school or starting higher education or some kind of professional training at the time of the follow-up. The elder ones were students or those starting their professional career,  while the eldest ones prepared to set up a family and an independent life.             The follow-up provides data to verify the prognosis which may either be confirmed or prove incorrect, particularly if new circumstances emerged (or those unknown before) that vitally influenced the examined person's fate. The follow-up may be related to the prognosis in the following four ways: the prognosis was positive which is confirmed by the follow-up (P+F+); the prognosis was negative and negative data are also provided by the follow-up (P-F-); the prognosis was positive which is however not fonfirmed by the follow-up (P+F-); the prognosis was negative but the follow-up appears positive (P -F +).             The findings of the follow-up were included in all of the above four group's as follows: P+F+              82 cases P- F-               4 cases P+F -               6 cases P-F+                8 cases There were no surprises in the extreme groups: the fates of the child were anticipated to take a favourable course provided the court takes the expert's conclusions into account (P+F+); or the prognosis was bad irrespectively of the court's possible decision (P- F-). On the other hand, in the groups where the follow-up failed to confirm the prognosis, either the diagnosis was wrong or new facts occurred after the examination which conclusively influenced the child's situation.             The most numerous was the group of cases in which follow-up confirmed a favourable prognosis. In those cases, the family environment involved was different,  as much as the parents mentality and personality traits, cultural standards, living conditions, the child's emotional ties with his parents and many other features. However, there were certain common features which favourably influenced the child's fate and they justified good prognosis. Divorcing parents accepted the court's decision truly in the child's interest pushing their own wishes and ambitions to the background. They remained loyal to each other and respected the child’s rights. They were able to create a climate which guaranteed the feeling of safety of the child and respect for his affection towards the parents. In these conditions, the effects of divorce were less painful for the child and the child could regain mental balance shaken by his parents conflict.             In the cases where follow-up confirmed a negative prognosis, the parents considered divorce proceedings to be their business exclusively. The child was just a supplement to their lives which they did not take into consideration; they provided no support for the child who had to depend on himself only, trying to overcome difficulties for which he was not prepared.             The fates of the children in the case of whom prognosis proved not consistent with follow-up are interesting. A change for the better meant that the expertise and the court's decision mobilized the parents, and the subsequent course of events confirmed the fact that parents are indispensable if they act in genuine good faith, manifesting kindness towards the child and mutual tolerance and trust.             In the last group, the follow-up failed to confirm a favourable prognosis. This was due to facts that occurred some time after the first examination and were difficult to anticipate, which negatively influenced the child's fate (e.g. death of a good guardian).             The follow-up made it possible to verify the relevance of methods applied in the examination as well as its general conception, according to which the child referred by the court for examination is an important but not the only element of his parents divorce. In such cases, the expert examines in a different way and context and from a different point of view the same problems in which the court is interested; however, he is able to examine more extensively and penetratingly the conditions that are inaccessible or difficult of access for the court, due to the lack of professional knowledge if not for other reasons.             The follow-up confirmed the importance of the family in the child's education and socialization. A broken home creates conditions that can eventually lead to a minor's maladjustment: if there are no factors to stop it, a broken home may produce a delinquency originating situation for the child.

Im vorliegen den Artikel werden ausgewählte moralische Werte im Zusammenhang mit der Erziehung in der polnischen Familie vorgestellt, und zwar im Rahmen folgender Detailfragen: Die Familie als höchster Wert, Wichtige Ziele in der Kindererziehung, Methoden und Techniken der Einwirkung auf die Kinder sowie Erziehungsstile in der Familie. Diese Fragen werden im Lichte der Ergebnisse soziologischer Untersuchungen behandelt, die in den Jahren 1997-2000 in sieben Städten Polens (Jastrzębie Zdrój, Chełm, Rzeszów, Lublin, Gdańsk, Poniatowa, Ryki) in allgemeinbildenenden Mitte lschulen (Lyzeen) und technischen Fachschulen (erste und Abiturklasse) durchgeführt wurden. Von Studenten, die ihre Diplomarbeiten am Lehrstuhl für Soziologie der Moral der KUL vorbereiteten, wurden insgesamt 2239 Fragebögen ausgewertet. Die sozial-ökonomischen und politischen Wandlungsprozesse in Polen in denneunziger Jahren scheinen die axiologischen Wahlentscheidungen auf dem Gebiet der für die Kindererziehung wichtigen Werte nicht prinzipiell beein flußt zu haben. Jedoch kann hypothetisch davon ausgegangen werden, daß in einer Zeit radikaler sozialer Wandlungen solche Eigenschaften wie Ehrlichkeit, Selbstachtung, Geduld, Toleranz, Verantwortlichkeit, Selbständigkeit und Wahrheitsliebe höher eingeschätzt werden, während auf Religiosität und Gehorsam seltener Nachdruck gelegt wird. Somit nimmt die Bedeutung derjenigen Merkmale zu, die die sich neu herausbildenende institutionelle Ordnung in der Gesellschaft begünstigen, mit besonderer Betonung der Kreativität und des Erfolgs im Leben. Die sich im moralischen Bewußtsein der Kinder und Jugendlichen vollziehende Umorientierung auf persönliche Werte (der eigenen Entwicklung) prägt auch die Erziehungsziele in der Familie. Die sich verändernde Verteilung der in der Erziehung wichtigen Werte bildet zum Teil das Ergebnis eines Generationswechsels, zum anderen eine Reaktion auf den Einfluß anderer Faktoren.

Solutions to such an important problem as an ecological crisis should be sought to start with indicating reasons for such a situation. Contamination of the environment, using up the natural resources, changes in biodiversity of flora and fauna, and many other similar urgent problems are the effects of actions that lead to family, social, political, or economical structures, or also lack of specified aim or sense in life, the basis for all these structures is nevertheless the family and it can be easily said the family crisis is the beginning of the crisis in other areas of human life also an ecological crisis. It is important in bringing up and environmental education to prepare for coexistence with nature and to respect humans’ habitat. Creative companionship with young people in the road which they should take from the moment of conception to the moment of achieving an integrated personality, such that in the practice of everyday life he would realize through his motivated posture “mature ecological outlook on life“ starts with the family and cooperation with others. Personal growing up of human beings takes place not in isolation but in cooperation with others.

The issue of social education has an important place in the teaching of the Church. In the pronouncements of the II Vatican Council the need for the formation of the basis of the constructive and responsible participation of children in social life has been noted. Such directions of education have been developed in the teaching after the Council. Even more strongly has it been underlined that the integral education of man demands formation towards the essential values of human life and a gradual introduction of children to responsibility for the formation of the civilization of love in the contemporary world.A large part of the pronouncements of the Church and of the Popes must be seen as the reaction to the changes taking place in the world. But, independently from the period of history, the Church has always underlined the irreplaceable and primary role of the family in the personal-social education of the child.

The paper presents results of studies devoted to correlations of domestic violence experienced by secondary school and university students in the Łódź urban area. The aim of these studies was to find correlations, if any, between occurrence of domestic violence and the following factors: gender of children, parental educational status, parental alcohol abuse and socioeconomic status of the family. Analysis encompassed 191 persons aged 16-27 years (mean: 18.25 years), thereof 111 females and 80 males. Examinees reported on having experienced various forms of violence during childhood. The following diagnostic instruments have been implemented: 1) the ZDK scale (Abused Child Syndrome Scale) by Kmiecik-Baran, enabling measurement of physical, emotional and sexual violence and neglect; 2) the Kmiecik-Baran questionnaire, assessing demographic variables and socioeconomic status of the family. Analysis of results obtained revealed lack of correlation between the patients’ gender and experience of domestic violence during childhood. On the other hand, significant correlation was noticed between violent behaviour and 1) alcohol abuse (parent alcohol-abusing are more prone to resort to violence), 2) family income (violence is more frequent in families of low income). There was also a clear trend indicating that less educated parents more frequently resort to violence. However, nadużywasignificant differences appeared only in the group of mothers in what relates to emotional violence (mothers with elementary education significantly more often used emotional violence against their children than mothers with secondary or higher education). Low socioeconomic status of family and alcohol abuse was factors increasing the risk of occurrence of domestic violence.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczących uwarunkowań występowania przemocy w środowisku rodzinnym młodzieży łódzkich szkół średnich i studentów. Celem przeprowadzonych badań była odpowiedź na pytanie, czy istnieje związek między występowaniem przemocy w rodzinie a: płcią dzieci, wykształceniem rodziców, nadużywaniem przez rodziców alkoholu i sytuacją materialną rodziny. Zbadano 191 osób w wieku 16-27 lat (średnia 18,85 roku) - 111 kobiet i 80 mężczyzn. Badani relacjonowali doświadczanie różnych form przemocy w dzieciństwie. Zastosowano takie narzędzia badawcze, jak: 1) Skala Zespołu Dziecka Krzywdzonego (ZDK) K Kmiecik--Baran - służąca do pomiaru przemocy fizycznej, emocjonalnej, seksualnej oraz zaniedbywania; 2) ankieta K Kmiecik-Baran - badająca zmienne demograficzne i socjoekonomiczne rodziny. Analiza wyników badań ujawniła brak związku między płcią badanych osób a doświadczaniem przez nie przemocy w dzieciństwie. Zaobserwowano istotną zależność między stosowaniem przemocy a: 1) nadużywaniem alkoholu (przemoc częściej stosują rodzice nadużywający alkoholu); 2) sytuacją materialną rodziny (przemoc częściej występuje w rodzinach o złej sytuacji materialnej). Wystąpiła również wyraźna tendencja wskazująca, że im niższe jest wykształcenie rodziców, tym częściej stosowana jest przemoc. Jednak istotne statystycznie różnice ujawniły się tylko w grupie matek w odniesieniu do przemocy emocjonalnej (matki z wykształceniem podstawowym istotnie częściej stosują przemoc emocjonalną wobec dzieci niż matki z wykształceniem średnim lub wyższym). Niski status socjoekonomiczny rodziny i nadużywanie alkoholu to czynniki zwiększające ryzyko występowania przemocy domowej.

The author of this extensive article consisting of two parts tries to show, on the basis of copiously quoted sources, that singing together in the family is in St John Chrysostom's pedagogical thought one of the important means of education. In Part One that is devoted to St John Chrysostom's pedagogy, on the basis of the Bishop of Constantinople's statements the author shows that in the family, which he calls the Church of the home, mainly the father (pater familias) is responsible for this kind of educational activity: it is him who should bring the atmosphere of the church to the family and teach the children and all the members of the household to sing – first of all the psalms that are rich in manifold values and that bring numerous kinds of good as well as God's blessing to the family; he also should prevent them from singing lay songs, originating mainly from the theatre, grand feasts and wedding parties: he calls the songs devilish, as they bring a lot of evil and dissipation to the homes. The author also reminds that the eloquent bishop, being, like all the Fathers of the Church, a firm opponent of instrumental music in God's service, as the first one in Constantinople introduced antiphonic singing, opposing it to the Arians' analogous singing that propagated heresy. In Part Two of the article the author tries to answer the question whether John Chrysostom was original in his teaching that music and singing have a positive effect on shaping a child's soul; bymeans of quoting numerous statements (by the Pythagoreans, Plato, Aristotle, the Stoics, the Skeptics and Christian authors: Clement of Alexandria, Athanasius, Basil, Theodoretus of Cyrus, and in the West – Ambrose and Augustine) he also reminds of the ancient theory ofthe musical ethos that took the same views; John Chrysostom just emphasized them more strongly.

Education influenced and continues to affect human understanding. Adopted the concept of education determines the character and re-education affects not only the concept itself, but also society as a whole. The beginnings of education are found in ancient human cultures. Education is a phenomenon that is recorded in the history of world and European thinking constantly change and takes on different forms and shape, pointing to the dynamism and diversity education. Social values are the basic characteristics of all social groups. Are evaluating the expression of fact. Shaped by the life course of action of many factors: environmental factors, upbringing and personality alone. In doing so, therefore, the choice is determined by human values education and social influence. In accordance with these influences, each person, company, social group creates its own general and specific value systems and codes.

Opis:
The article attempts to explain the scientific and social phenomenon that was constituted by the figure of Wacław Nałkowski. With comprehensive knowledge concerning his life, the author undertook the characterization of his personality with the use of the special psychological method of transactional analysis. It is a method developed by American psychiatrist Eric Berne during 1960s. It explains the way people think and behave, offering many tools to understand human functioning, social, spiritual and intellectual development, and person’s inherent creative potential. The analysis proved to be helpful to define these characteristic sand attitudes of Nałkowski that are desirable in today’s teachers and researchers.

Opis:
Jednym z czynników decydujących o efektywności działalności rolniczej są kwalifikacje kierowników gospodarstw, ponieważ to oni podejmują decyzje, determinujące korzyści z działalności rolniczej. Celem badania była ocena efektywności technicznej w gospodarstw rolnych w powiązaniu z poziomem wykształcenia ich kierowników. Materiał empiryczny stanowiły wyniki reprezentatywnych badań IERiGŻ-PIB. Do pomiaru efektywności technicznej wykorzystano parametryczną analizę stochastycznej funkcji produkcji (SFA). Badanie wykazało istnienie zależności pomiędzy efektywnością wykorzystania zasobów produkcyjnych z wykształceniem rolników.
One of the factors determining the efficiency of farming households are the qualifications of managers, since they make decisions that determine the outcome of agricultural activity. The aim of the study was to evaluate the technical efficiency of farms in conjunction with the education level of their managers. Empirical data was based on the results of IAFE-NRI surveys in the years 1996, 2000 and 2005. For measurement of technical efficiency parametric stochastic production function analysis (SFA) was used. The study showed a relationship between the efficiency of utilization of productive resources and the education of farmers.

Opis:
The documents of the Church devote a lot of space to marriage and family. They show marriage and family as natural communities that cannot be substituted by any other institutions. They also point to the necessity of the Christian formation of all the subjects of Church life, among which the first place is taken by family. Introduction into the full Christian life of children, young people and adults is done during the family catechesis. It is a contingent, immediate and practical teaching of religious truths in the family home. This task is first of all the parents’ responsibility; in this way they pass the exam in their religious education and educational skills. Grandparents, elder siblings, as well as the school and the parish help the parents. Family catechesis also effects the preparation for marital and family life. It is a way to revive families for Christian life, to look properly at the preparation to marriage, to live in sanctity and to fulfill the marital and family duties conscientiously.
