Opis:
Since the earliest age, each man plays various interrelated and coexisting roles in their family, social and professional life. Individual roles are realised simultaneously or sequentially and remain in relationship. Each role may complement, expand or disturb the course of a career in life. Undoubtedly, family/personal life and work are the key areas of human life. One cannot treat both these areas as independent of each other. There exists a continuous spillover between them – a natural, dynamic process developing over the entire course of human life. The effective integration of the spheres of work and family functioning is conditioned by many factors. On the basis of the literature, we can divide the determinants of the integration of these two roles into two categories: environmental, resulting, for instance, from the specific nature of the workplace or organization, the roles fulfilled, and the profession; individual, which can be associated with the properties of the individual, such as gender, age, education, children, or the status of the relationship, or they may result from the structure of the personality and the mental properties of the individual, such as motivation, values, level of commitment, mental health, physical health, etc. One of the crucial elements in the process of balancing work and family roles is the personality. The research on this issue indicates that among the dimensions of personality that have particular importance are neuroticism and extraversion, which significantly affect the direction and quality of the spillover between these two spheres of functioning. The aim of presented study was verify personality predictors of work-life balance among women. The survey involved 160 women with the various education, working professionally and possessing the least one child.

Opis:
This article attempts to analyze the problems arising at the junction of two social institutions: the army and military families. It shows, in the face of the transformations taking place in the area of family life and in the face of professionalization of the Polish Armed Forces, how complex relationships between these two worlds are created. The article raises the issue of dual loyalty and „greed” of these institutions. A feature that modern family and the army share is the fact that each of these institutions would like to focus the attention and energy of its members and involve them in their actions as much as possible, which would secure their operations. Such a demanding attitude, however, has a negative impact on the performance of social roles outside the institution. The empirical analyses on the topic conclude with the condition and problems of modern military family. They also show how the duties and requirements for the profession of a soldier affect the organization, structure and functions of the family, the course and the rhythm of their life, homely atmosphere, the content and scope of the role played, the manner of satisfying their needs and the lever of the satisfaction. This text is a contribution to further research of the presented issue.

Opis:
Presented article analyzes the sources of conflict between the family role and the professional role. The article is focused on the sources of conflict between work and family. The possibility of interference between these two roles should be closely investigated and better understood. Despite that in some cases the lines between professional and family life tend to blur, both of these types of life still have different roles and requirements. The article is an investigation of attainable literature and studies regarding the subject. The empirical investigation imply that the conflict of roles starts when the time committed to the requirements of one of them makes it difficult to meet the requirements of the other. Even though lately the number of investigations of this subject has grown, the results are still differentiated and sometimes even self-contradictory. The comparison of the results of different investigators showed that the work-family and family-work conflicts are positively correlated which indicates mutual strengthening and necessity of searching for common and individual causes that condition their coexistence, domination and strength. The received results are consistent with the results of many other studies, whose authors tried to indicate that each of these conflicts could have specific causes and course.

Background. Loneliness is a subjective, complex and multi-dimensional feeling, having a significant impact on mental health. It is related to intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Objectives. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of loneliness in elderly patients in medical care. Material and methods. We conducted a cross-sectional study of a sample of 150 participants, aged ≥ 65 years, interviewed by a structured questionnaire, including the University of California Los Angeles Loneliness Scale (UCLA -LS ), for assessment of loneliness. Other variables included socio-demographic characterisation and family dysfunction. Total medication prescription and polymedication were used to assess the medical care assistance profile. Logistic regression was used for multivariate analysis. Results. The prevalence of moderate to severe loneliness was 36% (95% CI: 28.3–44.2%), higher with ageing, without differences between gender. The greatest impact in loneliness occurred in the presence of family dysfunction, income dissatisfaction, living alone and ageing. Being married/in a non-marital partnership and maintaining professional activity appeared as protective factors. The perception of loneliness was related with polymedication, with higher levels of loneliness matching with higher polymedication. Conclusions. Loneliness is common in the geriatric population and interferes significantly with health care; thus, it can be considered a determinant of health. Incorporating this factor into clinical decision reasoning is crucial for better health care.

Subject and purpose of work: This study was designed in order to examine domestic practices of local female academics and to determine to what extent and how these practices affect business life. Materials and methods: In the research phenomenological research design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study group of the research consisted of 20 female faculty members from Turkey. Results: Within the scope of the research, it was concluded that female academics, like other women in the society, undertake a series of gender role-based responsibilities. Conclusions: The results of the research reveal that even women who belong to a profession that requires a high level of education and shows a status in the society, such as academics, take on more responsibilities in home life than their male colleagues. This result also proves that education and status factors are not sufficient to invalidate gender roles and social patriarchy.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to indicate directions of changes in modern families along with their consequences for functioning of the family system and, most importantly, to address difficulties in parental cooperation. Theoretical analysis is preceded by a review of existing, mostly international, research in this field. Three categories of family situations, in which problems and conflicts among parents may arise, are analyzed: divorce and separation, reconstructed families, and families where both spouses work what may trigger work- family type of conflicts. Difficulties in family functioning and playing parental roles, effects of unconstructively resolved conflicts among parents are considered in detail. These three categories of family situations have been selected for investigation because they are often connected with problems in parental cooperation.

Wstęp: W opracowaniu zaprezentowano wyniki badań poświęconych wzajemnym relacjom między konfliktami praca–rodzina i rodzina–praca a wiekiem i płcią. Materiał i metody: W badaniu uczestniczyły 223 osoby (115 kobiet, 108 mężczyzn, 74 matki i 61 ojców) w wieku 21–63 lat. Wykorzystano Kwestionariusz Konflikty: Praca–Rodzina i Rodzina–Praca i ankietę socjodemograficzną. W weryfikacji hipotez zastosowano analizę korelacji i test U Manna-Whitneya. Wnioski: Płeć i wiek pozostaje w istotnej zależności z doświadczaniem konfliktu praca–rodzina i rodzina–praca. Background: This paper presents the results of the study concerning mutual relations between work–family conflict and family– work conflict in the context of age and sex. Material and Methods: The study included 223 subjects (115 women, 108 men, 74 mothers and 61 fathers), aged 21–63. The Work–Family and Family–Work Conflicts Questionnaire and socio-demographic questionnaire were used as the survey tools. To verify hypotheses the correlation analysis and the Mann-Whitney U-test were used. Results: It has been found that a stronger work–family conflict is experienced by the examined men and fathers and a stronger family–work conflict is observed among parents. The results of the statistical analysis showed that there is a significant relationship between the number of working hours per day and work–family conflict and family–work conflict. Work–family conflict among mothers is significantly correlated with the income. The family–work conflict is stronger in the middle adulthood group. Conclusions: There is a significant relationship between sex and age and work–family conflict and family–work conflict. Med Pr 2014;65(4):521–533

BackgroundTurnover rates among nurses are much higher than in other professions. This poses a challenge for health managers in all countries. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting nurses’ turnover and the differences in this area between Iran and Poland.Material and MethodsIn this descriptive cross-sectional study, the population consisted of nurses working in state-owned hospitals in Poland (N = 165) and in Iran (N = 200). Data were collected using the Turnover Intention Scale, the Job Satisfaction Scale, the Work–Family Conflict Scale and the Workplace Support Scale. Use was made of the AMOS 24 and SPSS 22 software for data analysis.ResultsThe results showed that the predicted factors of nurses’ turnover intention in Poland and Iran were different. Workplace support and job satisfaction can reduce turnover intention among Polish nurses while the work–family conflict influences nurses’ turnover intention in Iran.ConclusionsProviding a flexible work plan in Iranian hospitals and enhancing teamwork and improving the spirit of cooperation in Polish hospitals could reduce nurses’ turnover intention in these 2 countries.
