The article compares the learning environments in the years 2003 and 2012 in order to clarify the reasons for the significant increase in the mathematical skills level of Polish 15-year-olds in those years as pointed by PISA studies. We studied the effect of school and family factors as well as students’ non-cognitive achievements on mathematics scores in PISA. In addition, SEM was used in subgroups in order to check whether the role of investigated factors changed over time. The research model adopted allowed to explain a large part of variability of students’ mathematical achievements. Analyses carried out on a sample of 8,966 people revealed significant, positive changes in the students’ family environment: conditions at home improved and parents’ educational level increased. The impact of home factor on non-cognitive student achievement intensified. School principals pointed to the favourable changes in the school environment. In turn, students’ attituds towards school became less optimistic and their sense of belonging weakened. Also the non-cognitive performance of pupils deteriorated over time.

Opis:
Education bond with the family was, and is a part of Christian doctrine from the beginning; it has always been an integral part of the task of parents in relation to children and society: it is the right and obligation resulting from the special relationship linking children with their parents. But the point is, that in modern societies, the family loses certain dimensions of socialization to other specialized entities. The school is one of them. This does not mean that the family is deprived of the educational function. The school plays in relation to the family subsidiary function. Relations families and schools in the educational process can take various forms: a model of far-reaching cooperation, antagonistic model and insidious antagonistic model. It is surprising, but undeniable fact, that the family, which constitutes fundamental human environment is under attack of multiple forces. Some see in it a reactionary bastion, a bastion of inequality, environment which enslaves others, or historically formed structure. Nowadays family is attacked. But can the family defend itself? Defending the family becomes defending human.
Odpowiedzialność rodziny za wychowanie była i jest częścią doktryny chrześcijańskiej od samego początku; wychowanie zawsze było integralną częścią zadania rodziców w stosunku do dzieci i społeczeństwa: jest to prawo i obowiązek wynikający ze szczególnej relacji łączącej dzieci z rodzicami. Jednak dzieje się tak, że we współczesnych społeczeństwach, rodzina traci niektóre wymiary socjalizacji na rzecz innych wyspecjalizowanych jednostek. Szkoła jest jednym z nich. To nie znaczy, że rodzina jest pozbawiona funkcji edukacyjnej. Szkoła odgrywa rolę zależną w stosunku do rodziny. Relacja rodziny i szkoły w procesie edukacji może przybierać różne formy: wchodzi w grę model daleko idącej współpracy, model antagonistyczny i model antagonistyczny w sposób ukryty. To zaskakujące, ale niezaprzeczalny fakt, że rodzina stanowi zasadnicze środowisko ludzkie jest atakowany z wielu stron. Niektórzy widzą w niej bastion reakcyjny, bastion nierówności, środowisko, które zniewala innych, czy historycznie uformowaną strukturę. Obecnie rodzina jest atakowana. Ale czy rodzina może się bronić? Obrona rodziny staje się obroną człowieka.

Humanistically oriented, qualitative educational studies allow learning about and supporting the processes of social change, including the development of schools directed towards the implementation of the idea of inclusive education. Evaluation research seems to be particularly useful for achieving this goal. The results presented in the article are a part of the extensive material collected in field research, which was conducted in the years 2015-2018 in eight schools of Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. The aim of the study was to describe school community activity and the subjective and intersubjective structure of the meaning of entities creating space for the implementation of students’ educational needs. The article presents the beliefs of parents and teachers on the educational partnership of schools and family, as well as barriers in its development, reconstructed on the basis of data originated from group discussions conducted in one of the schools that participated in the research.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie specyfiki funkcjonowania pokolenia Alpha oraz ukazanie znaczenia podejmowania edukacji medialnej przez środowisko rodzinne i szkolne dla utrzymania higieny cyfrowej tej generacji. Artykuł ma charakter teoretyczny i obejmuje charakterystykę pokolenia Alpha, w tym ukazanie mocnych i słabszych stron tej grupy generacyjnej. Istotną częścią jest przedstawienie ważności edukacji medialnej dla kształtowania właściwych postaw, myślenia, rozumowania i wartości młodego pokolenia. Współczesne dzieci bywają opisywane jako pokolenie ekranów dotykowych czy też pierwsza generacja, która urodziła się w mediatyzowanych środowiskach domowych. Od najmłodszych lat korzystają z mediów ekranowych (telewizorów, komputerów, smartfonów, tabletów czy gier komputerowych). Dostępność osiągnięć technologicznych niewątpliwie wpływa na rozwój dzieci w sferze emocjonalnej, społecznej i motywacyjnej. Podjęte rozważania ukazują z jednej strony potencjał młodej generacji, jej potrzeby, możliwości, specyfikę funkcjonowania, a z drugiej wskazują na zasadność podejmowania edukacji medialnej. Celem dobrego wychowania medialnego powinno być również rozwijanie empatii, samodzielności, życzliwości i samokontroli oraz rozbudzanie ciekawości intelektualnej. Kształtowanie właściwych nawyków w zakresie higieny cyfrowej powinno stanowić jedno z ważniejszych zadań współczesnego procesu edukacji. Właściwe użytkowanie inteligentnych urządzeń technologicznych może przyczynić się do rozwijania poznawczych, językowych i społecznych umiejętności najmłodszych.
The aim of the article is to present the specifics of the functioning of the Alpha generation and to show the importance of undertaking media education by the family and school environment in order to maintain the digital hygiene of this generation. The article is theoretical in nature and covers the characteristics of the Alpha generation, including the presentation of the strengths and weaknesses of this generational group. An important part is the presentation of the importance of media education for shaping the right attitudes, thinking, reasoning, and values of the younger generation. Today’s children are sometimes described as the touchscreen generation or the first generation to be born into mediatized home environments. From an early age, they use screen media (televisions computers, smartphones, tablets, or computer games). The availability of technological achievements undoubtedly affects children’s development in the emotional, social, and motivational spheres. The considerations undertaken show, on the one hand, the potential of the young generation, their needs, possibilities, and the specificity of functioning, and, on the other, indicate the legitimacy of undertaking media education. The aim of good media education should also be to develop empathy, self-reliance, kindness, and self-control as well as to arouse intellectual curiosity. Shaping proper digital hygiene habits should be one of the most important tasks of the modern education process. The proper use of smart technological devices can contribute to the development of the cognitive, linguistic, and social skills of the youngest.

The article presents the results of surveys on family and school cooperation in the perception of the teachers in a small rural primary and secondary schools in the Warmia-Mazury Voievodeship. The issues considered in the article especially refer to the actual, declared and expected degree of parental involvement in school life.

Coping strategies among adolescentsAdolescents experience many stressful situations, concerning mainly personal problems as well as family, school, and peers problems. In such stressful situations, they employ different coping strategies. The aim of this study was to determine the types of coping strategies depending on the character of a stressful situation. 451 adolescents were investigated (278 girls and 173 boys) with Ways of Coping Questionnaire by R. Lazarus and S. Folkman, prepared by Z. Uchnast (1995), Religious Coping Questionnaire (RCOPE) by K. I. Pargament in Polish adaptation by E. Talik and L. Szewczyk (2008) and an original Survey. Results of the research demonstrate that in addition to traditional coping strategies, adolescents use religious coping strategies as well.

Opis:
Pedagogical journalism and literature of the interwar period emphasised importance of the cooperation between family and school with respect to cooperative education of school-age children and youth. Cooperative education started usually in family through the formation of reason, will and emotions. Family home constituted a basic level of education and could repeatedly stimulate cooperative interests. Common work of the family at family farm or in craft or cottage industry business became the first school of cooperation and joint-action onwhich cooperative activity was based. Family home played a supporting part in the development of student cooperative. The acceptance of parents and their recognition, and sometimes their involvement in the work of student cooperation, were a form of encouragement for students and teachers for further activity of the cooperative. At the same time, student cooperative – in particular in rural areas –was a medium stimulating the parents of these students and the environment to cooperatistic actions. The social life of school was guided by the principle of convergence, i.e. its interpenetration and complementation by the family home and environment life. The idea of cooperation in the interwar educational system being accomplished in practice by means of student cooperatives had the possibilities of playing a very big part. This was determined by its broad application in educational activity of the Polish school as well as its understanding and acceptance by the family and environment. Important part was played by the tutor of student cooperative. His / her duty was to tighten the cooperation between student cooperative and family homewhich, on the one hand, ensured the understanding of teacher's actions and, on the other hand, provided material and moral assistance for the cooperative. At the same time, teacher – through student cooperative – could influence socially and educationally the family and environment, showing the benefits yielding from mutual cooperative work based on joint-action. c

Opis:
The issue of cooperation between school and family continues to be an investigated and analysed problem, which is thought to be the key to the successful upbringing. The article demonstrates the importance of teacher support along with the support from local, NGOs and government organizations. Support provided appropriately to the needs of a student and family may be an important source of inspiration to cope with many difficult situations.
Problematyka współdziałania szkoły z rodziną stanowi wciąż badany i analizowany problem, w którym upatrywana jest skuteczność wychowania. W artykule ukazano znaczenie wsparcia udzielanego przez nauczyciela, ale też przez organizacje środowiska lokalnego, organizacje pozarządowe i samorządowe. Wsparcie udzielane adekwatnie do potrzeb ucznia i konkretnej rodziny, może stanowić ważną inspirację do radzenia sobie w wielu trudnych sytuacjach.
