Opis:
Surveillance, nowadays especially provided by information and communication technology, is at the core of social control that has been largely commoditised and privatized. Consumer culture gives hope for freedom lives, challenging the social hierarchies that dominated the earlier – in Bauman’s vocabulary, “solid” – phase of modernity. The aim of this paper is to present two of many tools, which are used by biggest IT companies to keep under surveillance the individuals, societies and nations in the Liquid Modern Times. There has been the socio-cultural context of Internet’s development analyzed to find the premises that led to a transformation of cyberspace from a freedom to a surveillance place, and conducted a case study of Facebook’s facial recognition technology and Google Street View practices. Non-reactive research methods have been used in the paper.

Opis:
Modern psychology is increasingly interested in phenomena related to the flourishing of a human being, such as mindfulness or emotional intelligence (EI). Mindfulness, according to Kabat-Zinn, is “the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally to the unfolding of experience moment by moment” including the experience of emotions. The most widely studied EI concept was introduced by Salovey and Mayer. They defined it as the ability to monitor emotions and use this information to guide one’s thinking and actions. One of the skills involved in EI is the recognition of emotions based on facial expressions. Interestingly, there is no link between self-reported emotional intelligence, measured by a questionnaire, and the ability to recognize facial expressions measured by a task test. Mindful people are more attuned to their implicit emotions and can reflect this awareness in their explicit self--descriptions. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between mindfulness and emotional intelligence, and to examine the moderating role of mindfulness in the relationship between self-reported EI and the ability to recognize facial expressions. The participants were 120 students from different universities of Lublin, Poland, who completed the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) by Brown and Ryan as translated into Polish by Jankowski, the Schutte Self-Report Inventory as adapted into Polish by Jaworowska and Matczak (Kwestionariusz Inteligencji Emocjonalnej; INTE), and the Emotional Intelligence Scale – Faces (Skala Inteligencji Emocjonalnej – Twarze; SIE-T) developed by Matczak, Piekarska, and Studniarek. The results show a positive relationship of emotional intelligence with mindfulness. A positive correlation was also found between mindfulness and the recognition of emotions, which is a component of EI. There was no correlation between mindfulness and the other EI component – using emotional information to guide one’s thinking and actions. As expected, there was no relationship between self-reported EI and the ability to recognize facial expressions, but – contrary to expectations – mindfulness was not a moderator of this relationship.

Opis:
Facial recognition has been one of the most intriguing and exciting research topics over the last few years. It involves multiple face-based algorithms such asfacial detection, facial alignment, facial representation, and facial recognition. However, all of these algorithms are derived from large deep-learning architectures, leading to limitations in development, scalability, accuracy, and deployment for public use with mere CPU servers. Also, large data sets that contain hundreds of thousands of records are often required for training purposes. In this paper, we propose a complete pipeline for an effective face-recognition application that requires only a small data set of Vietnamese celebrities and a CPU for training, solving the problem of data leakage, and the need for GPU devices. The pipeline is based on the combination of a conversion algorithm from face vectors to string tokens and the indexing & retrieval process by Elasticsearch, thereby tackling the problem of online learning in facial recognition. Compared with other popular algorithms on the same data set, our proposed pipeline not only outperforms the counterpart in terms of accuracy but also delivers faster inference, which is essential to real-time applications.

Research background: With growing evidence of biometric identification techniques as authentication, there is a pivotal need for comprehending contactless payments by use of facial recognition algorithms in retail, restaurant, and hotel business models. Purpose of the article: In this research, previous findings were cumulated showing that harnessing facial recognition payment applications as software-based contactless biometric algorithms results in remarkably qualitative enhancement in purchasing experience. Methods: Throughout March and November 2021, a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases was carried out, with search terms including "facial recognition payment technology", "facial recognition payment system", "facial recognition payment application", "face recognition-based payment service", "facial authentication for mobile payment transactions", and "contactless payment through facial recognition algorithms". As the analyzed research was published between 2017 and 2021, only 187 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria. By removing questionable or unclear findings (limited/nonessential data), results unsubstantiated by replication, too general content, or having quite similar titles, 38, mainly empirical, sources were selected. The Systematic Review Data Repository was harnessed, a software program for the gathering, processing, and analysis of data for our systematic review. The quality of the selected scholarly sources was assessed by employing the Mixed Method Appraisal Tool. Findings & value added: Harnessing facial recognition payment applications as software-based contactless biometric algorithms results in remarkably qualitative enhancement in purchasing experience. Subsequent attention should be directed to whether perceived value and trust shape customers' adoption of biometric recognition payment devices.

Opis:
The human face, real and imagined, has long figured into various forms of cultural and personal recognition—to include citizenship, in both the modern and the ancient world. But beyond affiliations related to borders and government, the human face has also figured prominently into biometrics that feed posthuman questions and anxieties. For while one requirement of biometrics is concerned with “unicity,” or that which identifies an individual as unique, another requirement is that it identify “universality,” confirming an individual’s membership in the species. Shakespeare’s sonnets grapple with the crisis of encountering a universal beauty in a unique specimen to which Time and Nature nonetheless afford no special privilege. Between fair and dark lies a posthuman lament over the injustice of natural law and the social valorizations arbitrarily marshaled to defend it.

Opis:
Facial emotion recognition (FER) is an important topic in the fields of computer vision and artificial intelligence owing to its significant academic and commercial potential. Nowadays, emotional factors are important as classic functional aspects of customer purchasing behavior. Purchasing choices and decisions making are the result of a careful analysis of the product advantages and disadvantages and of affective and emotional aspects. This paper presents a novel method for human emotion classification and recognition. We generate seven referential faces suitable for each kind of facial emotion based on perfect face ratios and some classical averages. The basic idea is to extract perfect face ratios for emotional face and for each referential face as features and calculate the distance between them by using fuzzy hamming distance. To extract perfect face ratios, we use the point landmarks in the face then sixteen features will be extract. An experimental evaluation demonstrates the satisfactory performance of our approach on WSEFEP dataset. It can be applied with any existing facial emotion dataset. The proposed algorithm will be a competitor of the other proposed relative approaches. The recognition rate reaches more than 90%.

Opis:
This article describes guidelines and recommendations for acquisition of databases for facial analysis. New devices and methods for both face recognition and facial expression recognition are constantly developed. In order to evaluate these devices and methods, dedicated datasets are recorded. Acquisition of a database for facial analysis is not an easy task and requires taking into account multiple issues. Based on our experience with recording databases for facial expression recognition, we provide guidelines regarding the acquisition process. Multiple aspects of such process are discussed in this work, namely selection of sensors and data streams, design and structure of the database, technical aspects, acquisition conditions and design of the user interface. Recommendations how to address these aspects are provided and justified. An acquisition software, designed according to these guidelines, is also discussed. The software was used for recording an extended version of our previous facial expression recognition database and proved to both ensure correct data and be convenient for the recorded subjects.

This article review conducted over past 20 years on the communication competence (containing pragmatic language use) of people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). There is potential association of ADHD with using language in social context, reading and writing, and recognition of facial expression. Most papers suggest that people with ADHD have a lot of problems in social communication but results of research are inconsistent, because some of them indicate no existence of differences. Possible reasons of this are discussed. Examined groups of people are heterogeneous because they have various levels of difficulty and different co-occuring impairments. The article concludes that in spite of discrepancy in research results, there are evidence for dependency between ADHD and communication problems. Some recommendations for future research and psychological and education practice are formulated.

The study of customer experience requires the development of methodologies which measure such experience and account for its complexity. One important component of customer experience is emotion, the recognition and measurement of which is still a challenge for researchers. The purpose of this article is to discuss methods and techniques used to recognise and measure emotions in customer experience research. Particular attention is paid to the use of techniques derived from consumer neuroscience, including the dilemmas associated with reaching for automatic analysis of facial expressions. The literature review is indicative of the ongoing discussion on the benefits and limitations of using the automatic analysis of facial expressions technique in measuring customer experience. Despite its limitations, such a technique can be an attractive complement to methods and techniques used to capture the emotional components of customer experience at different stages (before, during, and after purchase).

In day to day stressful environment of IT Industry, there is a truancy for the appropriate relaxation time for all working professionals. To keep a person stress free, various technical or non-technical stress releasing methods are now being adopted. We can categorize the people working on computers as administrators, programmers, etc. each of whom require varied ways in order to ease themselves. The work pressure and the vexation of any kind for a person can be depicted by their emotions. Facial expressions are the key to analyze the current psychology of the person. In this paper, we discuss a user intuitive smart music player. This player will capture the facial expressions of a person working on the computer and identify the current emotion. Intuitively the music will be played for the user to relax them. The music player will take into account the foreground processes which the person is executing on the computer. Since various sort of music is available to boost one's enthusiasm, taking into consideration the tasks executed on the system by the user and the current emotions they carry, an ideal playlist of songs will be created and played for the person. The person can browse the playlist and modify it to make the system more flexible. This music player will thus allow the working professionals to stay relaxed in spite of their workloads.

In the present paper, we deal with the application of the probabilistic approach, which makes it possible to optimize the face image classification task. The mathematical expectations and variances of the investigated random parameters are used as basic statistics. The proposed method allows us to carry out a fast and reliable preliminary classification and to exclude obviously dissimilar face image from the further analysis.
