Opis:
Differential scanning calorimetry is discussed as a tool for characterization of shape memory alloy materials with the example of $Ni_{51at.%}-Ti$ polycrystalline material. Some inconsistencies connected with the differential scanning calorimetry analysis results present in the contemporary literature are indicated, for example large discrepancies in the registered heats of phase transition or differences in registered heats of forward and reverse phase transition, especially in the case of multi-stage phase transition sequences. An attempt is undertaken to explain some of the discrepancies. The overall conclusion from the present work is that forward and reverse sensible heats of phase transition are equal, and discrepancies reported in the literature are artefacts. It is recommended that as a standard practice of differential scanning calorimetry analysis of shape memory alloy materials not only characteristic temperatures but also sensible heat of phase transition should be reported, which can be done at practically no additional cost.

Opis:
A high-intensity pulsed ion beam (HIPIB) technique is applied to heat flux testing of plasma facing materials for fusion experiment. The HIPIB is generated at a relatively stable power density up to $10^{8}$ W/$cm^{2}$, which covers a heat flux parameter of up to several hundreds MW $m^{-2} s^{1//2}$. Surface morphology and weight loss are examined for doped and coated graphite with HIPIB exposure of 280 MW $m^{-2} s^{1//2}$, being of the same order of thermal loads during off-normal events in future fusion reactors. The work demonstrates a first example utilizing the HIPIB technique to study thermal response of plasma facing materials under fusion relevant thermal loads.

Opis:
The effect of pressure on the dielectric properties of [NH$\text{}_{2}$(CH$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{2}$]$\text{}_{3}$Sb$\text{}_{2}$Cl$\text{}_{9}$ crystal was analyzed for a few values of hydrostatic pressure within the range from 0.1 MPa to 300 MPa and for temperatures from the range of 220-350 K. The measuring frequency was 1 kHz. The pressure-temperature phase diagram obtained was nonlinear. The temperature dielectric permittivity anomalies related to the paraelectric-ferroelectric phase transition temperature (T$\text{}_{c}$) gradually increase up to 66 MPa and then decrease with subsequent increase in pressure. The character of the temperature dielectric permittivity anomalies, typical of the continuous ferroelectric transition, remains unchanged with increasing pressure. Additionally, the pressure dependences of the Curie-Weiss constants for the crystal in paraelectric (C$\text{}_{+}$) and ferroelectric (C$\text{}_{-}$) phases were evaluated and discussed. The results indicated a complex mechanism of the ferroelectric phase transition.

The Firefly Algorithm (FA) is employed to determine the optimal parameter settings in a case study of the osmotic dehydration process of mushrooms. In the case, the functional form of the dehydration model is established through a response surface technique and the resulting mathematical programming is formulated as a non-linear goal programming model. For optimization purposes, a computationally efficient, FA-driven method is used and the resulting optimal process parameters are shown to be superior to those from previous approaches. The final section of this study provides a computational experimentation performed on the FA to analyze its relative sensitivity over a range of the two key parameters that most influence its running time.

We review recent magneto-optical investigations performed on HgTe-CdTe semimetallic superlattices. Far infrared magnetotransmission data obtained as a function of temperature, photon energy, and sense of circular polarization are compared with the predictions of a comprehensive new theory which fully incorporates the complexities of type-III superlattice band structure. It is found that the theory accounts for nearly all of the many unusual features which have been observed experimentally. These include the occurrence of two cyclotron resonances due to holes; the coexistence of electron and hole cyclotron resonances in the low temperature limit; the observation of three distinct CRA minima; a step-like change in the temperature dependence of the electron cyclotron mass; and a dramatic increase of the CRI absorption peak intensity with increasing magnetic field.

Opis:
The bulk ($Tl_{0.5}Pb_{0.5})Sr_2(Ca_{1 - x}Gd_{x})Cu_2O_{z}$ superconductors with x = 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 have unique and very interesting magnetic and electrical properties. In this paper we focused our attention on the superconductor with gadolinium content x = 0.2. We measured the magnetic field dependences of the transport critical currents, the microwave absorption as well as the magnetization for different temperatures. The critical temperature of this sample is $T_c$ = 105.3 ± 0.2 K and the transition width Δ $T_{90% - 10%}$ = 3.6 ± 0.2 K. The critical current of this superconductor is $J_c$ = 1 820 ± 10 A/$cm^2$ at 77 K. The data were analyzed within the frame of the Bean and Kim models as well as the percolation model.

Indium vapour was illuminated with laser light in the wavelength range 350-372 nm and at 410.3 nm. A few fluorescence bands of In$\text{}_{2}$ as well as a strong background emission of indium-quartz compounds were observed. An evidence of energy transfer processes in indium vapour was found.

The study of pyroelectric response of monocrystalline TGS cubic specimens to changes of temperature induced by linear and pulse heating of three mutually perpendicular pairs of cube sides demonstrated a complicated structure of signals. We attribute their forms to the activation of various hydrogen bonds between glycine G1, G2, and G3 molecules. In the case of pulse heating the pyroelectric signal is observed also in the paraelectric phase.

W artykule przeprowadzono krytykę neoliberalnego pojęcia wolnego rynku. Dokonano tego na podstawie krytycznych opinii na temat kategorii: wolnej przedsiębiorczości i gospodarki wolnorynkowej jakie wyrażali F. A. von Hayek i W. Eucken w latach 1945–1950. Obaj przedstawiciele nowego liberalizmu byli przekonani, że wolność na rynku zapewniona jest dzięki panowaniu na nim porządku konkurencyjnego. Ten porządek z kolei jest strzeżony przez państwo.
The article presents a critique of neo-liberal free market ideas. This was done based on the representation of critical opinion on of ideas: free enterprise and a free market economy that F.A Hayek presented in the years 1945–1950 and W. Eucken in the years 1946–1950. Two representatives of the new liberalism were convinced that freedom in the market creates order competitive. This order is guarded by the state.

The pervasive use of mobile devices and the omnipresence of the Internet have ushered in a transformative era. Nearly everyone, regardless of age, possesses a mobile phone, bridging generational gaps in digital interaction. Mobile phones have become highly personal, with users guarding them zealously. Service providers recognize this intimate relationship, offering an opportunity to enhance security. Traditional password-based security is vulnerable to data breaches, prompting the adoption of mobile phones as a more robust platform for safeguarding digital assets. This shift has also facilitated the development of digital identification applications, reducing reliance on physical identity documents. Additionally, mobile banking applications are replacing physical payment cards, enabling secure transactions. The ascendancy of mobile payment solutions is diminishing the role of physical cash and wallets. In summary, mobile devices have reshaped security and daily activities, becoming the cornerstone of our digital existence, offering higher levels of security, convenience, and efficiency.

Artykuł przedstawia modyfikację inicjalizacji KKZ algorytmu k-means, uwzględniającą, oprócz wzajemnych odległości środków segmentów, również rozkład gęstości pikseli. Funkcja gęstości piksela jest sumą odwrotności odległości piksela od pozostałych i jest poddawana oszacowaniu na podstawie odległości piksela od wartości średniej i wariancji wartości pikseli. W eksperymentach segmentacji podlegały cztery różne sekwencje obrazów termicznych uzyskanych metodą termografii aktywnej. Pomimo dodatkowych obliczeń podczas inicjalizacji, metoda wykazała szybszą zbieżność algorytmu z czasami bardzo podobnymi do inicjalizacji KKZ, ale mniejszym błędem końcowym segmentacji.
This article presents a modification for the KKZ initialization of the k-means segmentation algorithm, which, in addition to the mutual distance of segments, takes into account the density of pixels. Pixel density is expressed asa sum of the inverse of the pixel’s distance to the other pixels and is subjected to estimation based on the distance from the mean and variance of the pixel values. In the experiments, four different sequences of thermal images were used, obtained using active thermography. Despite the additional calculations during initialization, method showed a faster convergence of the algorithm, with processing times very similar to the KKZ initialization, but with a lower final segmentation error.

The spectral and baric dependences of the birefringence $Δn_{i}$ of $K_{2}ZnCl_{4}$ crystals were studied. It is shown that the dispersion $Δn_{i}(λ)$ is normal and sharply increases on approaching the absorption edge. It is established that the uniaxial pressures do not change the character but only the values of the dispersions $dΔn_{i}$/dλ and temperature dependences of $dΔn_{i}$/dT.
