Opis:
The Shatt Al Arab River (SAAR) is a major source of raw water for most water treatment plants (WTP’s) located along with it in Basrah province. This study aims to determine the effects of different variables on water quality of the SAAR, using multivariate statistical analysis. Seventeen variables were measured in nine WTP’s during 2017, these sites are Al Hussain (1), Awaissan (2), Al Abass (3), Al Garma (4), Mhaigran (5), Al Asmaee (6), Al Jubaila (7), Al Baradia (8), Al Lebani (9). The dataset is treated using principal component analysis (PCA) / factor analysis (FA), cluster analysis (CA) to the most important factors affecting water quality, sources of contamination and the suitability of water for drinking and irrigation. Three factors are responsible for the data structure representing 88.86% of the total variance in the dataset. CA shows three different groups of similarity between the sampling stations, in which station 5 (Mhaigran) is more contaminated than others, while station 3 (Al Abass) and 6 (Al Asmaee) are less contaminated. Electrical conductivity (EC) and sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) are plotted on Richard diagram. It is shown that the samples of water of Mhaigran are located in the class of C4-S3 of very high salinity and sodium, water samples of Al Abass station, are located in the class of C3-S1 of high salinity and low sodium, and others are located in the class of C4-S2 of high salinity and medium sodium. Generally, the results of most water quality parameters reveal that SAAR is not within the permissible levels of drinking and irrigation.

Opis:
This paper describes investigations of Eurofer97 and oxide dispersion strengthened version of this steel, in as received state and after annealing. Vickers hardness test was performed on the as received specimens and after annealing at various temperatures to obtain information about development of the strength of studied materials. After identifying the temperature region where significant changes of the strength take place we applied positron annihilation spectroscopy to probe the microstructural changes in ferritic/martensitic steels. An observation of phase transformation was observed in both steels at various temperatures indicating different behaviour of the base material and its strengthened version. All applied methods proved the importance of strengthening by oxides to improve properties of steels.

Opis:
The aim of this study is to investigate the usability of fuzzy logic modelling for prediction of fresh properties of self-compacting concrete. In the modelling process, the percentage of fly ash and the percentage of granulated blast furnace slag, as replacement of cement, the percentage of micronized calcite, as replacement of total aggregate, were used as inputs. The slump flow diameter and time and also the V-funnel time were used as outputs. Results show that fuzzy logic modelling may be a useful approach to predict fresh properties of self-compacting concrete, containing fly ash, granulated blast furnace slag and micronized calcite.

Once the New SI is approved by the General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM), all base units of the international metric system of units (SI) will be defined in terms of physical constants and atomic properties. In this paper, we consider the rationale and the direction of the possible further evolution of the SI. The idea is to define all base units exclusively in terms of fundamental physical constants, with no reference to specific phenomena, physical theories or properties of material entities (including properties of atoms and elementary particles), so that those definitions would not have to be altered or amended following advancement in our understanding of the structure of matter, emergence of new physical theories or due to the technological progress. New developments in science and technology would then affect only the mise en pratique (realization) of base units, rather than their definitions. Furthermore, we point out the need for including base units for the weak interaction and the strong interaction into the SI and propose a way to do it. The structure of the fundamental-constants-based system of units (the FC SI) is discussed and prerequisites for the implementation of the FC SI are considered.

The classical, electrodynamic definition of the ampere is incoherent with quantum electrodynamics. The problem, although insignificant at the macroscopic scale, manifests clearly at the nanostructure level, where the consistently quantum approach is necessary. In this paper, we consider the Casimir effect to quantify inconsistencies that could have resulted if electric metrology of microstructures and nanostructures (including graphene) had been based on classical electrodynamics and the current SI definition of the ampere. The issue is discussed in the context of the New SI program, where the base electric unit is to be redefined by fixing the numerical value of the elementary charge. The conclusion supports the case for a prompt redefinition of the base electric unit, which will make the electric metrology in general, and the electric metrology of nanostructures in particular, coherent with the international system of units.

People are exposed to both internal and external radiation from the natural radiation sources. For this reason, studies determining the natural radiation level are made to detect the effects of radionuclides, that constitute the natural radiation sources, on the environment and especially the effects of radiation on people and on biological systems. The most common radiation sources are ²³⁸U, ²²⁶Ra, ²³²Th and ⁴⁰K radioisotopes. In this study, in the samples of the rock and soil acquired from Amasya Şeyhcui Region, the activity concentrations of ²²⁶Ra, ²³²Th and ⁴⁰K are determined by using NaI (Tl) detector with gamma spectrometer and are compared with the limit values.

Opis:
The interest in the properties of hydroxycinnamic acids with health-promoting properties is constantly increasing. That is why more and more research is being conducted to better understand these properties. Ferulic acid, FA (4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamic acid) is a derivative of hydroxycinnamic acid found in the plant tissue. It is possible to find him among others in bran cereal, popcorn bamboo shoots, and coffee. According to available literature data ferulic acid has a lot of biological properties, particularly appreciated in medicine. Its bioactive properties effectively contribute to the fight against diseases described as a civilization, including neurodegenerative diseases that increase the incidence. As reported the World Alzheimer Report, the number of people with dementia progression in 2016 exceeded 47.5 million, of which 33.5 million were diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. According to the WHO estimates, this number will triple by 2050. The manuscript presents health-promoting properties of FA on the example of its antioxidant, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, anti-atherosclerotic, neuroprotective, antineoplastic and antibacterial properties. In addition, the reaction of its synthesis in plants and in-vivo metabolization have been explained. The collected data suggest that bioactive FA molecules can effectively reduce the risk of civilization diseases and significantly reduce the level of oxidative stress contributing to the formation of neurodegenerative diseases.

The approach described in this paper uses evolutionary algorithms to create multiple-beam patterns for a concentric circular ring array (CCRA) of isotropic antennas using a common set of array excitation amplitudes. The flat top, cosec2, and pencil beam patterns are examples of multiple-beam patterns. All of these designs have an upward angle of θ = 0◦. All the patterns are further created in three azimuth planes (φ = 0◦, 5◦, and 10◦). To create the necessary patterns, non-uniform excitations are used in combination with evenly spaced isotropic components. For the flat top and cosecant-squared patterns, the best combination of common components, amplitude and various phases is applied, whereas the pencil beam pattern is produced using the common amplitude only. Differential evolutionary algorithm (DE), genetic algorithm (GA), and firefly algorithm (FA) are used to generate the best 4-bit discrete magnitudes and 5-bit discrete phases. These discrete excitations aid in lowering the feed network design complexity and the dynamic range ratio (DRR). A variety of randomly selected azimuth planes are used to verify the excitations as well. With small modifications in the desired parameters, the patterns are formed using the same excitation. The results proved both the efficacy of the suggested strategy and the dominance of DE over GA as well as FA.

Opis:
The application of pulsed lasers for vaporization (ablation) of solid targets appears to be the most natural way to produce high purity fluxes of atoms/ions suitable for epitaxial growth of thin films. Since the early 1960's this unique approach has been the subject of steadily growing interest in the deposition of metals, dielectrics, semiconductors and since 1987, high-T$\text{}_{c}$ superconductors. Laser induced target surface morphology changes, properties of laser induced vapours and pulsed deposition rate associated with the use of a pulsed laser for vacuum epitaxy are discussed. A pulsed laser evaporation and epitaxy (PLEE) system is described and the results of PLEE application for the growth of Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$Te and CdTe-Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$Te quantum well and superlattice structures are reviewed. Feasibility of PLEE in bandgap engineering is also discussed.
