Let $(S_n)$ be some vector sequence, converging to S, satisfying $S_n - S \sim ϱ ^n n^{θ}(β_0 + β_1 n^{-1} + β_2 n^{-2} + ...), 0 \lt |ϱ|\lt 1 , θ \lt 0$, where $β_0(\ne 0), β_1,...$ are constant vectors independent of n. The purpose of this paper is to provide acceleration methods for these vector sequences. Comparisons are made with some known algorithms. Numerical examples are also given.

The paper is a continuation and elaboration of the subject of [5], which investigated the application of algorithm Ɛ and Aitken’s extrapolation to solve large sets of linear equations. In this paper the application of algorithm Ɛ [1], [2] was abandoned since in the following examples under study it yielded worse results than Aitken’s extrapolation. The acceleration of sequence (xn) convergence through Aitken’s extrapolation consists in creating sequence (x'n) given by dependence: ...[wzór] which is convergent faster than the sequence (xn) [1], [2], [4]. To the sequence (x'n) formula (1) can be once more applied, which is referred to as multiple Aitken’s extrapolation and can be written as: ...[wzór]

The extrapolation of the electric field is studied theoretically both in frequency domain and time domain. Combining Gauss’s law with the approximation method in engineering, two new formulas for the scattering field calculation are derived from different logical ideas based on Stratton-Chu formula. The consistency property of the derived formulas is investigated, and the third formula for the scattering field calculation is further obtained. Finally, the time-domain extrapolation is discussed based on the formulas, followed by a simple numerical example. The results obtained are characterized by a simple form and intuitive physical meaning, and are helpful to calculate certain engineering problems.

The first Polish translation of one of the best-known articles on the poetics of science fiction, considered nowadays a must-read reference in the field. In this classical piece, Darko Suvin famously argues in favour of introducing the concept of cognitive estrangement modelled after Viktor Shklovsky’s ostranenie (often questionably rendered as defamiliarisation) as well as Bertolt Brecht’s Verfremdungseffekt (as defined in his Kleines Organon für das Theater). Arguing, in due course, for acknowledging the cognitive and epistemological potential of thus defined estrangement, Suvin proceeds to introduce and analyse two distinct models for studying science fiction from both historical and formalist perspective—the extrapolative model and analogic model—which altogether help at outlining features of the most prototypal science fiction. This translation is also supplemented with an addendum from 2014 wherein the author revisits his thoughts from Marxist perspective and ponders on their relevance in reference to a more politically inclined debate in science fiction studies.

The methods to identify the rotor angular position used in sensorless control usually do not pro vide the sufficient angular resolution. We can increase the resolution using the digital synthesis systems, but this approach uses linear extrapolation which is characterized by low accuracy. The article shows how to solve the problem. To determine the angular position the polynomial Aitken extrapolation with the improved accuracy is used.

The problem that is mostly related to the pattern of experimental time series data is the function that involves the data. Experimental data in the field of exact sciences is very important to conclude a problem. Existing data can form certain functions. In this research, we are looking for a function that represents the gas content of hydrogen and iodine in the reaction of acid iodide formation. This is achieved by using interpolation in which the function interpolates a given group of data points. Interpolation can also be used to evaluate the function at points different from the group. In addition to constructing and evaluating a functions by interpolation, we can also predict experimental data outside the given group of data points by using extrapolation. The results of data extrapolation can be used as an alternative to experimental data, thereby saving time and cost. This research will also compare interpolation and extrapolation of both Newton method and cubic splines, which one better interpolates and extrapolates data on hydrogen and iodine gas content in the reaction of acid iodide formation. The research results show that the cubic spline method is better than Newton method at approaching data, in terms of interpolation, as well as extrapolation.

W pracy opisano zmiany dokonane w związku z przystosowaniem optymalizacyjnej metody ewolucji ekstrapolacyjnej - dokładniej przedstawionej we wcześniej opublikowanych pracach autora - do wykonywania polioptymalizacji. Jej celem jest dążenie do wyznaczenia możliwie licznego zbioru paretooptymalnych rozwiązań problemów z wieloma funkcjami kryterialnymi i ograniczeniami. Przykłady zastosowań do zadań testowych, z których wybrane dwa zamieszczono w pracy świadczą o tym, że algorytm pozwala na bardzo efektywne rozwiązywanie problemów testowych i praktycznych oraz uzyskiwać wyniki lepsze od otrzymywanych znanymi już metodami.
The article describes changes introduced for adjustment of optimisation method of extrapolation evolution - presented in details by the author in previously published papers - to realize polyoptimization. Its aim is to determine possibly numerous set of Pareto optimal solutions with multi-criteria functions and constrains. Implementation examples to test tasks, two of them included in the paper, prove that the algorithm enables very effective solving of test and practical problems and achieving better results than obtained by already known methods.

The primary purpose of this paper is to present the issue of extrapolation, which is interesting from the perspective of contemporary philosophy of science. For its proper explanation, it is crucial to distinguish it from terms of similar meaning, such as analogy, induction or statistical inference. The second goal is to indicate key differences that exist between extrapolative inference and analogical reasoning. Because of this the ascertaining of the identification of these concepts would be a mistake though, of course, there is no way not to notice certain similarities.

In the non-normal case, it is possible to use various look-ahead strategies for computing the elements of a family of regular orthogonal polynomials. These strategies consist in jumping over non-existing and singular orthogonal polynomials by solving triangular linear systems. We show how to avoid them by using a new method called ALA (Avoiding Look-Ahead), for which we give three principal implementations. The application of ALA to Padé approximation, extrapolation methods and Lanczos method for solving systems of linear equations is discussed.

As social change continues, resulting, among others, in a different nature of interpersonal relations or greater access to various stimulants, there is an increase in the number of young people’s behaviours which can be called maladaptive. The question about effective ways of helping young people who manifest symptoms of social maladaptation remains valid. This article is a voice in this discussion and an attempt to present a model of RES -ocialisation focused on solutions, developed in clinical conditions within the space of a specific institution, which is a 24/7 Youth Addiction Treatment Clinic in Toruń. This model draws on the Solution-Focused Approach and falls within the post-modern paradigm of social rehabilitation, using the idea of social construction of opportunities that occurs through and by means of language. It is based on the processes of reification, signification and extrapolation.

The purpose of the article is to study the method of extrapolation, highlighting the effectiveness of the financial activity of JSC «ZAZ» and for its future development. In the process of analyzing and exploring the scientific work of many scientists, effectiveness of using the extrapolation method for predicting performance was determined. As a result of research in the article analyzes the financial position of the enterprises of mechanical engineering in modern conditions, the efficiency of working capital in recent years determined. The feasibility of using the method of extrapolation in terms of instability of the market economy was investigated and proved. The forecast of working capital and total sales was made. It is offered to use in research the linear correlation coefficient of the pair, the method of least deviation, t – Student's criterion. Data obtained on the basis of the forecast enables businesses to improve their performance, to compete at a high level with other entities to establish a system of sales, to avoid crises in the future, increase profits and develop programs to reduce costs. Prospects for further research in this area will improve and develop an integrated system of economic methods on prediction performance of engineering enterprises based on current market position and variability of the environment.
