Opis:
It is necessary to divide the lemma in the academic explanatory dictionary into two parts in order to improve its quality. The Russian function word (source language) is introduced in the left with all lexicographic items. The right side (target language) of the dictionary entry contains necessary interpretation, litters, examples in the fixed accordance with the source language entry At the same time, the source Russian version will always be fixed, and the target language input can be filled in English, German, Spanish, French, Turkish or Polish translations respectively.
Для улучшения качественных характеристик словарной статьи учебного толкового словаря представляется целесообразным разделить ее на две части. В левой стороне (входной язык) помещается русское служебное слово со всем набором лексикографического инвентаря. Правая сторона (выходной язык) словарной статьи, в строгом соответствии с левой, дает необходимое толкование, пометы, примеры и прочее на иностранном языке. При этом «русская» левая часть всегда будет стандартной, а «инонациональная» часть может наполняться, соответственно, английским, немецким, испанским, французским, турецким или польским переводами.

Príspevok je výsledkom spracúvania substantívnej deklinácie v rámci projektu Slovanský jazykový atlas, ktorého materiálovú základňu tvorí územie slovanských jazykov od Jadranského mora po Ural. Povaha rozsiahleho nárečového materiálu z nárečí všetkých slovanských jazykov si vyžaduje ntegráciu synchronického aj diachronického prístupu interpretácie skúmaných javov a súčasné rešpektovanie genetickej, areálovej aj typologickej povahy podstaty problematiky. Vývin, stabilizácia a súčasný stav morfologických štruktúr z porovnávacieho hľadiska poukazuje aj potrebu integrovať v morfologickej interpretácii aj fonologický, morfonologický a slovotvorný aspekt výskumu.
The article deals with a project of the analysis of the natural development processes of noun declination in dialects of Slavic languages in a special volume of the international project – Slavic Linguistic Atlas. The author offers basic experience from the cartographic processing of morphological items, in particular Slavic macro-areas, and points to the necessity of the synthetic analysis of the natural development of noun declination in dialects of Slavic languages as a starting point for an explanation focused on the nature in morphology.

Autor przedstawia koncepcję filtra eksplanacyjnego, sformułowaną przez zwolennika teorii inteligentnego projektu - Williama A. Dembskiego. Filtr ma służyć jako uniwersalne narzędzie wykrywania projektu, będącego nie tylko dziełem istot ludzkich, ale także wszelkich innych istot inteligentnych. Filtr ma mieć zastosowanie nawet na gruncie takich nauk przyrodniczych, jak biologia czy kosmologia. Autor odpowiada również na niektóre zarzuty skierowane pod adresem koncepcji Dembskiego.
Author presents the explanatory filter concept formulated by intelligent design theory proponent William A. Dembski. The filter is intended to be an universal instrument for detecting design that is not only the work of human beings but also of other intelligent entities. The filter is supposed to be applicable even to such fields of natural science as biology and cosmology. Author replies also to some objections to Dembski’s concept.

In the article, I present two possible points of view concerning mathematical proofs: (a) the formal view (according to which the formalized versions of mathematical proofs reveal their “essence”); (b) the semantic view (according to which mathematical proofs are sequences of intellectual acts, and a form of intuitive “grasp” is crucial). The problem of formalizability of mathematical proofs is discussed, as well as the problem of explanation in mathematics – in particular the problem of explanatory versus non-explanatory character of mathematical proofs. I argue, that this problem can be analyzed in a fruitful way only from the semantic point of view.

The paper addresses the issue of explanatory journalism, which is becoming an increasingly popular and important form of communication in times flooded by verified information as well as misinformation and hoaxes. The study is of a theoretical character and critically evaluates knowledge from this area, placing emphasis on digitalization of journalism that has brought new communication instruments and platforms, thus increasing demands on information literacy and media education of a recipient. This phenomenon resulted in the establishment of several media projects aimed mainly at explaining complex terms or phenomena in a simple and comprehensive way or at interconnecting high-ranking state officials with influential businessmen. In the text, the authors address the role and status of explanatory journalism, its potential in relation to investigative journalism and data journalism - areas and topics that are urgent and beneficial for our society but are often difficult to comprehend for a reader due to their technicality and complexity.

The objective of this paper is to investigate and explain the evolution of the Romanian textile industry over the last decade. Potential explanatory factors, both systematic and industry-specific, for the dramatic industry decay are identified e.g. the disappearance of the primary industry, the continuous increase in the minimum wage in Romania, an acute labour shortage, the liberalisation and full integration of the textile industry into GATT in 2005 and the recent global economic crisis. Furthermore we present empirical evidence of the linkages and causality between the overall economic growth of Romania, the evolution of the country's textile industry and the rate of growth of the minimum wage in the economy during June 2000 and January 2011. We found that the lagged minimum wage growth and lagged textile industry sales growth together explain 80% of the future rate of growth in the country's gross domestic product (GDP). All econometric tests conducted using our dataset agree that past and contemporaneous increases in minimum wages have had a significant negative impact on the textile industry. Finally, Granger causality tests reveal that the rate of growth in the GDP is driven by sales in the textile industry, and at the same time textile industry sales also drives macroeconomic growth. This bilateral causality is significant at 5% in both cases, being stronger from the industry-level to the economy-level.
Celem tej pracy jest badanie przemian rumuńskiego przemysłu tekstylnego w ciągu ostatniej dekady. Zidentyfikowano przyczyny zaniku przemysłu tekstylnego w Rumunii, zarówno wewnętrzne jak i zewnętrzne, w tym brak siły roboczej, liberalizacja i pełna integracja przemysłu tekstylnego w zakresie GATT w 2005 roku, a ostatnio globalny kryzys ekonomiczny.

This article deals with the issue of the role of a translator in translating specialized texts. It is theoretically assumed that a translator of that kind of texts is merely a transferor of information and should not intervene with the meaning of the given text. Numerous studies show, however, that a translator of specialized texts – subject to the nature of the given text – must employ a whole range of translation techniques which aim at explicating certain concealed or unknown messages being conveyed to the receiving party. In this article we strive to prove that these explanatory techniques can take on a totally different dimension when applied to scientific or pragmatic texts. Therefore it can be inferred that translating scientific texts provides for different interventions on the part of the translator than in the case of translating utilitarian texts. Nevertheless, each such intervention is to some extent creative from the point of view of the role of the translator in the process of the transfer.

As underlined in Wierzbicka (1996: 239), a «linguistic definition is a scientific hypothesis about the concept encoded in a given word». The present paper focuses on the problem of what such hypothesis is about. Lexicon of any language is structured with a set of connections relating lexical items. That is to say that speakers of any language need to master not only separate words, but rather a cluster of connected senses. If so, then a lexical definition should lay out the concept the word lexicalizes in the way that gives access to the whole grasp of its conceptual, paradigmatic and syntagmatic relations. We discuss the topic of definitional structures developed in the context of the French Lexical Network (Réseau Lexical du Français).

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie kilku przepisów ustawy o ochronie konkurencji i konsumentów, które w toku jej stosowania wywołują wątpliwości interpretacyjne. Praktyka stosowania ustawy o ochronie konkurencji i konsumentów z 2007 r. ukazała potrzebę jej nowelizacji, także w zakresie eliminacji tych przepisów. Założenia projektu ustawy o zmianie ustawy o ochronie konkurencji i konsumentów wychodzą jej naprzeciw, jednak ich analiza skłania do głębszej refleksji, gdyż proponowane zmiany są niewystarczające. W związku z tym, iż nowelizacja ustawy nie rozwiązuje wszystkich problemów pojawiających się w toku jej stosowania, istotne staje się wskazanie kilku przepisów ustawy o ochronie konkurencji i konsumentów wywołujących wątpliwości interpretacyjne, a jednocześnie całkowicie w niej pominiętych. Dotyczy to instytucji ochrony tajemnicy przedsiębiorstwa w postępowaniu przed Prezesem UOKiK, charakteru wykroczenia z art. 114 ustawy oraz terminu wykonania decyzji o uznaniu praktyki za naruszającą zbiorowe interesy konsumentów i nakazaniu zaniechania jej stosowania. Uzasadniona zostanie potrzeba zmian tych przepisów wraz ze wskazaniem możliwych rozwiązań.
The aim of this paper is to present some of the provisions of the Competition and Consumer Protection Act, which have caused interpretational dilemmas when used in judicial practice. Statutory provisions in force since 16 February 2007 have in some cases not only proven to be in need of revision but sometimes ever proven in need of repealing. Proposals to amend the Competition Act answer this need but provoke also the need for a deeper reflection upon the suggested amendments. The proposed changes are insufficient – they do not resolve all the problems identified in the practical application of the Act. The author highlights some of the provisions left out from the revision process including consumer protection provisions and rules on the protection of business secrets in proceedings before the UOKiK President. The author provides justifications for changes that he suggests should be made to the Act and proposes possible solutions to outstanding problems.

The notion of explanatory models of illness (EMI) epitomizes the theme of social representation in social psychiatry. This article illustrates a clinical sociology approach to the subject by revisiting the seminal work of Kleinman and reflecting on the use of EMI in studying severe mental illnesses, particularly in China. A general literature review is provided to show the complexity of the subject, and the work of clinical sociologist Sévigny over the past two decades is summarized. A case analysis is conducted to illuminate the many social factors that came to play in affecting the experiences and perceptions of schizophrenic patients and their significant others in the nation’s capital Beijing in the 1990s. Diverse “explanations” in the experience of schizophrenia are explored, including the medical, the psychogenic, and the psychosocial models, among such others as inheritance and religious beliefs. Implications for research and clinical practice are discussed, including extending EMI study beyond illness interpretation to emphasize social rehabilitation.

The main purpose of this paper is to present the concept of explanatory filter as developed by William Dembski, a proponent of intelligent design theory. The explanatory filter is intended as a tool for detecting design, i.e. for discriminating between the results of intelligent and unintelligent activity, in case when the underlying causal history is unknown. Dembski claims that the explanatory filter as a method of design detection is already widely used in various branches of knowledge, although in a pre-theoretic form. His goal is to give the filter a rigorous theoretical shape, as well as to apply it to natural sciences such as cosmology or biology. After outlining the foundations of Dembski’s proposal, various objections to the concept of explanatory filter will be analyzed.

Kazimierz Dziewoński formalnie przedstawił teorię regionu ekonomicznego, faktycznie jednak jego rozważania dotyczyły regionu społeczno-ekonomicznego. W artykule zaprezentowano główne kategorie pojęciowe i założenia koncepcyjne tej teorii. Należy ją rozpatrywać na tle innych koncepcji regionu. Koncepcje te omawiano w ramach różnych wzorców wyjaśniania w polskiej geografii społeczno-ekonomicznej; niektóre z nich były paradygmatami. Te różne koncepcje regionu cechowały się nie tylko rozbieżnościami, ale i sprzecznościami, będącymi punktem wyjścia do wzajemnej krytyki. W tym kontekście warto zauważyć ogromny potencjał intelektualny koncepcji Kazimierza Dziewońskiego, wciąż – mimo upływu dziesięcioleci – niewykorzystany, a w literaturze anglojęzycznej nieznany.
Kazimierz Dziewoński formally presented a theory of the economic region while in fact his considerations applied to the socio-economic region. The main conceptual categories and assumptions of the theory are presented in this article. This theory should be considered in the context of other concepts of the region. The concepts were presented within various explanatory patterns in Polish human geography, only some of which were paradigms. The various concepts of the region were characterised not only by divergences but also contradictions, which were the departure point for the mutual criticism of individual concepts. In this context, it is worth noting the enormous intellectual potential of Kazimierz Dziewoński’s concepts, still – despite the passage of decades – not used, and unknown in English-language literature.

After 2008, European governments undertook austerity measures to come out of the global financial crisis. The policies were imposed to reduce the states’ debts and deficits, increase their economic competitiveness, and restore business confidence. Inevitably, the results of their implementation were socially noticeable and triggered the occurrence of new social movements which became a powerful player on a political scene. In some states, the stakeholders of anti-austerity movements used physical political violence while in the other they settled for mental. The article introduces findings of the comparative study on the relationships between patterns of culture of political violence and intrastate, regional, and colonial explaining factors. By applying statistical analysis, it tests empirically Negussay Ayele’s explanatory model of militant culture of political violence for a theory-verification purpose. As a result, it makes a contribution to the structure of explanation encompassing the particular configurations of indicators.

In this paper, I discuss the differences between ontic and epistemic conceptions of scientific explanation, mainly in relation to the so-called new mechanical philosophy. I emphasize that the debate on conceptions of scientific explanation owes much to Salmon’s ontic/epistemic distinction, although much has changed since his formulations. I focus on the interplay between ontic and epistemic norms and constraints in providing mechanistic explanations. My conceptual analysis serves two aims. Firstly, I formulate some suggestions for recognising that both sets of norms and constraints, ontic and epistemic, are necessary for scientific theorising. Secondly, I emphasize that there are multiple dimensions involved in scientific explanation, rather than clear-cut alternatives between ontic and epistemic aspects. I conclude with a general observation that although contextual aspects of explanations are unavoidable, the epistemic-relativity of our categories, explanations and models can in fact be compatible with their objectivity. Instead of making hastily drawn ontological implications from our theories or models, we should carefully scrutinize them from the ontic-epistemic perspective.
